I really tried with this book, but I just couldn't connect with the characters nor the story

What would you do if you suddenly found yourself with no money, phone, or place to live after your slimy ex cleaned you out? This is the situation that Amy Callahan finds herself in after her boyfriend leaves her high and dry. Lucky for her, handsome hockey player, Emile Giroux, has a passion for saving damsels in distress and quickly sweeps Amy off of her feet. Embarrassed by how easily she was duped by her ex, Amy feels that she can't go home to her family in Georgia with her proverbial tail between her legs and after some angst decides to take Emile up on his generous offer to be his personal assistant. However, it isn't long before things become more "personal" between them. Will Amy be able to open up her heart so soon after having it broken and will Emile be able to tone down his alpha male/caveman tendencies to allow love to seep in? Readers will be drawn in to the story and will be breathless with anticipation to find out. Definitely recommend!

Just when you thought things were finally looking up and your boyfriend is paying attention to you that you're completely blindsided with abandonment. Amy had every single detail mapped out but nothing prepared her for meeting Emile. He was her knight in shining armor provided safe harbor. After learning her boyfriend Cameron had taken advantage of her Amy did what she could to survive. Not willing to make waves she wanted to everything in the past. The only thing is Emile will not stand blindly by and let Amy continue to suffer from her past.

It has been a very long time that a story has evoked such strong heartfelt emotions as did Face Off. Emile had a genuineness to him that was so endearing. Often times he seemed almost childlike in his beliefs...because they were unblemished and completely unself-serving. He had a pureness of heart.
Emile and Amy were a perfectly suited pair whose desires to help each other came from a place of respect and caring. Though it took Emile a bit longer to come to terms with Amy's needs, he provided her with shelter from her storm without asking for anything in return...a rarity. It took Amy even longer to let herself be cared for again...both physically and emotionally.
When Emile achieved clarity and understanding about Amy's needs, it was priceless. Her accepting his gift of understanding brought me tears.
Any author who is able to pack this much emotion into one story and create such memorable characters is one I will put on my watch list.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and Netgally, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

got to 28% before I finally gave up. This book was so boring for me. Even the excitement of Amy being taken to the cleaner's wasn't exciting but very boring.
