The blurb sounded like this read was going to be good, but being that it's a novella it fell short on my expectations. I couldn't get into the characters, nor did I like the plot points that were happening in the story. It kind of bored me. The ending revelation didn't make any sense, saying that if Tristan loved his wife so much how can he be blinded to what had ended up happening. To me that seemed unrealistic that the wife I felt sort of put up a front in their marriage then. I think Kat was too immature for her character and didn't see her strong willed at all. I just wished everything wasn't so rushed.
Breaching the Contract is the first installment in Chantal Fernando's new contemporary romance series! Some people have placed it into the "erotic" category, and while I do think it had some pretty intense sex scenes, it didn't really make it all the way to erotic territory for me. I enjoyed the fast pace of the novel, but I often felt like something was missing. The characters relationship progressed very quickly, and I really wanted a little bit more of a slow burning romance.
All in all, the novel was entertaining, witty, and held my attention easily. I liked the length of the novella and it definitely left me wanting more. I look forward to more from Fernando in the rest of the series. Thank you to NetGalley and Pocket Star for sharing this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great book if you are looking for a simple easy read. This book was perfect for curling on the couch for two hours. The characters were easy to like, the kids super adorable and it was a great little romance. 4 stars for a fun quick read!
I really loved and enjoyed this book. Really a great story line and very strong characters that I couldn't get enough of. Can't wait for more.
I read the books in this series backwards; I read #2 before #1 which didn't impact my understanding of either book but I probably would have rated this book higher if I hadn't read book #2. Why? Because I really enjoyed that book and the interested plot that was laid out in it; this book had much less of a plot.
This book is entirely about two people fighting their attraction to one another, simply because they work together. Otherwise there was no good reason for them not to explore things. I loved the added component of Tristan's children. But otherwise there was no conflict, no suspense and really no other plot in the book. Still a great story, just not as good as #2 for me.
4 Stars from Renee!
I was pulled right into this story. The story has pain, suspense, and heartbreak.
This is Katerina and Tristan’s story. Katerina has dreams and one big one is to become a criminal lawyer. Right now, she is working as a new associate in a law firm. But taking care of kids and running errands is not her idea of fun or even what she signed up for in this job. But who is she going to complain to her hot boss? What Katerina does not know is Tristan her boss wants her but knows he can have her so send her out to keep his distance. But when he sees her outside of his office with his children he is more smitten. How can he have her but allow her to work with him? Or will he want Katerina to give up all her dreams to have a life with him?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I recommend this book.
Sadly this book wasn't what I was expecting. It had potential to be a good drama free romance but it was boring and the characters weren't good enough for me. They both looked to have strong willed personalities but in the middle of the story they changed completely. There was no constancy with them. The only thing I liked in this book were Tristan's children. I always love kids in books.
Short novel but packed with good office romance!
Katerina Dawson better known as Kat is a recently graduated law student. She has been hired by Jaxon Bently to work for him. Jason is a great boss and figure but when he has to leave the office for an unknown period of time, Kat will have to work under Jaxon's partner, Tristan Channing. Kat can admit to herself that he's trouble for her. She's attracted to her new boss and when she finds herself playing nanny with his kids, that she also like his two children.
Tristan Channing is a widower trying to balance his job and his children. He has no time for playing and he's good at his job. When a couple of nannies failed him, he asks his new employee for help. As hard as he tries to distance himself from her, the more time they spend together the more he wants her in his and his kids' life.
Breaching the contract can be read in one sitting. It's fast and sweet. Both main characters were likable and relatable. I felt bad for Tristan's situation but I didn't like him abusing his power over Kat at the beginning. I liked him much more when he started treating her as a colleague although I understood the necessity to bring his kids into the story and make Kat feel for them.
The secondary characters were good too and I'm hoping they get their own stories.
Cliffhanger: No

Breaching the Contract is the perfect office romance. Kat has just graduated at the top of her class and has taken on her dream job working with the partner of the top law firm in her city, Jaxon Bentley. She's loving the job, and Jaxon has given her a lot of work to do, a lot of work she loves doing. But when Jaxon takes a sudden leave for personal emergency, her mentoring is taken up by Jaxon's partner, Tristan. Tristan, who was rude to Kat on her very first day of employment and whom Kat doesn't exactly have fond feelings for. Suddenly her dream job isn't so dreamy because Tristan seems to think she's his PA/lackey. He sends her on personal errands and even has her pick up his adorable kids from school. She doesn't get to work on actual exciting legal cases, she does scut work and she's no longer loving her dream job. Tristan may be hot but he's a jerk, and Kat is wondering exactly how she got to this point.
But when Tristan slowly warms up to Kat, mostly because his son and eventually his daughter, fall in love with Kat, the attraction between the two is finally consummated. Their relationship finally morphs into the one I was waiting for and it's lovely. There isn't a lot of drama, it's not angsty, although there's a bit of personal issues that Tristan experiences toward the end. But it's all wrapped up nicely at the end.
If you like your office romances with likable, entertaining characters with just the right touch of heat, Breaching the Contract is the perfect read for you. It's sweet, it's sexy and it's low on the angst.
I was engaged, it was light, there was a single dad (and everyone knows I love a good single parent book) and it was really easy to read. I read it in two hours in the dead of the night and I’m so glad I picked up this book.
I love a good office romance read and this one is a good enemy to lovers one.
This is a quick cute read. Kat is fresh out of law school and she's ready to take over the world. What she didn't plan on was the sparks she felt with her boss. She's torn, do she take a chance and see where this goes or do she concentrate on her career.. Sometimes love is worth it.

This was my first book by Chantal Fernando and it won’t be my last. I am a sucker for an office romance and single dad.
This was a fast read that I finished in one sitting. There wasn’t really any drama and that was ok. I normally like to have some kind of drama and to an extent it worked without it. There were areas that were very predictable to me.
Katrina has just finished law school and landed an internship at a top law firm. When her boss has to leave for a while she jumps in to fill in for him. It wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. She had to work with his partner Tristan who wasn’t the nicest.
Tristan is an attorney and single father. Seeing Katrina for the first time there was instant attraction that had to be put on hold since she works with him. Will they be able to make a relationship work in and out of the office?
If you want a fast light hearted read this is right up your ally. I will be reading more from the author for sure.
Sadly, I didn't find this to have much substance. From the romance to Kat's career to the surprise towards the end, there was little attention to detail. This felt more like an outline of a book.
Breaching the Contract was a quick, hot read. I'm still a little confused about where the title falls into place, but the main characters are interesting. I'm a little thrown off by the epilogue as well, it felt abrupt. All in all, it kept my attention and got my heart racing.
Loving this new series. I love the forbidden worker bee/boss man aspect of this story. The concept is not new but it definite works for Me. Our heroine has just the right amount of smarts ( No Tstl here) sass and backbone here. Tristan was a jerk in the beginning, with good reason but once we get going he does grow on you. Definitely looking forward to Jaxs book next
Breaching the contract by Chantal Fernando was an enjoyable short read. I liked the Harry Potter reference, nothing wrong with a little Harry Potter fun. Chantal did create great characters with incredible chemistry.
I would have probably given this more stars if it was a bit longer, I felt like there were some lose ends. I also feel like something was missing, from chapter to chapter in a few instances the transition was off. I think it needed to be tied to the next with more information.
Regardless it was an exciting read.

I am a huge fan of Chantal Fernando's writing, I have several of her signed paper backs adorning my shelves, so I was very excited to be given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Breaking The Contract.
Breaking the Contract is Katerina and Tristan's story, it's a fast paced, quick read around novella length, but that hasn't affected Ms Fernando's ability to tell an engaging and entertaining story with well developed characters.
Tristan piqued my interest from the get go, he's a single father, he tends to be a bit cocky and arrogant but hey that's half the appeal. I found him to be quite intriguing.
Katerina on the other hand is pretty much what you see is what you get. She's feisty, intelligent, hard working, driven, head strong and affectionate.
I loved the chemistry between this pair, that is completely undeniable, but also the fun, flirty, and witty banter that is shared between the various characters.
Generally I can't say that I am a fan of novella length reads, as they lack the depth and complexity you get with a full length read, and I did want more of this couple. I am so looking forward to reading more of the Conflict of Interest series, and hope we get more of Katerina and Tristan along the way!

Breaching the Contract is the first book in Chantal Fernando’s Conflict of Interest Series. The series is about a group of sexy lawyers who are very good at what they do in the courtroom and apparently in the bedroom as well. Breaching the Contract focuses on how a new associate at a top law firm handles her attraction to her new boss. Her name is Katerina “Kat” Dawson and she has ambitions of being a high-powered criminal attorney. She gets the opportunity to be mentored by one of the best litigators around named Jaxon Bentley. However, Jaxon suddenly takes leave and Kat is forced to deal with the other partner in the firm, Tristan Channing.
Kat and Tristan initially met outside of the office and had an immediate attraction but didn’t have an opportunity to act on it. Once Tristan becomes Kat’s direct supervisor, they both do everything possible to avoid any close contact. Of course, that doesn’t last long and they eventually end up in between the sheets. Their time in the bedroom is extremely erotic and nothing is left to the imagination. Outside forces quickly put a strain on their relationship but rest assured that they do get their happily ever after. Tristan also has two children that play an integral role in all of this.
While I did like Breaching the Contract, I felt that the conflict that arises was somewhat out of place and it didn’t quite feel genuine. Hopefully, the next book, Seducing the Defendant, will seem less forced.
This is a new series for Chantal Fernando and actually my first time reading her work. Must say that I really enjoyed this book, it is a quick and easy read - I really liked the story and found the characters interesting. Looking forward to the next book!
This was a delightful, fun and quick story to wile away a couple of hours. Romances set among lawyers is one of my guilty pleasures. You are guaranteed a decent exchange of banter, based upon witty and cunningly formed debate. Breaching the Contract effortlessly combined a beautiful balance of work, family, and romance.
Kat has secured a dream position at a law firm fresh from completing her degree. Her first week at work exceeds her expectations but when a change of circumstance forces a change in the partner she is now working for, work tasks take a considerable dive. Going from interesting research to babysitting her boss’ children is not what she anticipated she would be doing.
What takes Kat by surprise is the connection she develops with Tristan’s children and the chemistry evolving between her and her new boss. Determined not to allow anything to get between her and her aspirations to one day practice law, she pushes aside her personal feelings in an attempt to not jeopardise her job.
Slowly Tristan drops his guard and begins to appreciate the sunshine Kat brings into his and his children’s lives. It becomes apparent early on that Tristan is a broken bird rather than an alpha-hole. Both Kat and Tristan were characters that were easy to warm to. There’s a little bit of drama with glimpses of home and work life. When the love birds succumb to the inevitable, we are treated to a few steamy scenes that cement their compatibility both in and out of the office!
A rather quick ending, but relevant in comparison to the rest of the story. So glad I picked this book up to read. If you’re in the mood for a steamy, passionate and heartwarming story, this is a book you won’t want to overlook!
