DNFed. Mainly because I wasn't caught up with the writing? It felt too simple and plain and superficial? I didn't enjoy it one bit and didn't make me want to continue on the story. I'm sure the story will pick up sometime soon and it'd be wonderful, but sadly, this wasn't for me. I'm sad because the author is an author of color and I so want to support her but maybe this book isn't for me. I'll for sure try some other books by her.
Didn't like that the hero put her to do all of those stuff when the other guy left? I don't know it felt like because she is a woman he gave her tasks like go and buy his coffee and get his kids. I'm sure I would have fallen in love with the kids because I always do and I'm sad to close this book before I do to be honest.
This story is the first book in a new series, Conflict of Interest. I liked this story since it was a sweet, low angst story that was quite enjoyable to read. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
Breaching The Contract is the first stand alone book in Chantal Fernando's Conflict of Interest series.
This was a very quick read and felt more like a short story than a full length book. If I look at it from the stand point of a short novel then this was a great little read. It was fast paced with a good story and likeable characters.
However, I just really wish this had been a full length book and the plot and characters fleshed out more. The bare bones were there for this to be an excellent read but it just fell a little short for me. The beginning was really engrossing and I was pulled into the story really quickly but then boom it was over and the ending just felt terribly rushed.
I didn't dislike this book be any means, I just felt a little short changed. That being said, if you're looking for a quick read, that's easy with likeable characters, you won't go far wrong with this.
I was provided with a copy of this book from the Publisher via NetGalley; there was no inducement or obligation.
3.5 stars. This was a good storyline, but the end was way rushed. Actually it seemed like more than the end was rushed. The relationship kind of bloomed and blew up. There wasn't a ton of drama or anything, then all at once you're at 3 months later and then years later. I feel like a big part of the story is missing. I still enjoyed the story, just wish there was more to it!
A short sweet HEA Office romance. There is maybe one or two surprises in here but other than that it is just a cute read. The book is well written, the characters are strong, the ending is very abrupt and because it is book #1 there is obviously more to come, probably relating to the other characters in the book.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book was more of a short story than a novel. It started well and just as I was getting into it suddenly a dramatic bombshell was dropped and resolved within a few pages and it was over. To say the ending was rushed is an understatement.
I really liked this but , I was alittle disappointed in the why there was not a explation on why the wife cheated on the husband.. No explaion on why the lawyer partner was sick and no fallow up on the illness . my be I get in the the sto line and I love to get lost then them ,, but I surely read any thing this author puts ... was a chearry book . thank you for giving my the chance to read this. cindy maynard
I was invited by the publisher (through Netgalley) to read this book. I was a fan of some of Chantal Fernando's previous books so I was excited to read the start of this new series. While the book had some great steamy scenes I feel like this was way too short and because of that the characters felt underdeveloped. I don't feel like we even learned all that much about Kat and Tristan and I didn't read enough about them to feel compelled to keep reading. I would consider continuing this series if the characters are more developed and the plot is not rushed.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the galley.
I'm a HUGE huge fan of Chantal fernando, her Wind Dragons MC series is one of my all time favourite series's. So it's safe to say when I got this ARC I was happy dancing my ass off for a good 10 minutes!. Over dramatic.. maybe. The plot was so different to what I've read from her previously that I couldn't contain my excitement for something a little different.
I adore me a good office romance, there's something about the almost forbidden nature of it that gets all my whistles blowing. That element of suspense, will they get caught? What will the repercussions be?. The temptation, sin. It definitely got me excited for what was to come, All the endless possibilities.
Tristan is definitely that broody standoffish asshole alpha boss. A cliche? Yes. But he played it so freaking well. He makes you want to slap and kiss him at the same time, sets fire to your blood and gives you that slow building burn that you just know will end up in all kinds of nasty goodness.
But in all honesty he shocked me, I did not expect his story to be what it was. It's heartbreaking and give you more of an understanding as to why he acts like he does. Still I loved him, the bad, good and emotional. He definitely had so much growth through the story, His pace slow but believable. A loveable rouge.
Katerina definitely holds a little place in my heart, I just connected to her character. She's extremely relatable. Her past is equally heartbreaking and not once did she have a pity party. Having no one but herself she pushed herself to do better, to be her best, to succeed. Strong to the core and as sweet as pie she fitted Tristan perfectly. I adored her interactions with his children, my ovaries boomed at the cuteness overload that is Laura and Logan. She's a definite favourite heroine of this year so far for sure.
I can't say the plot is super original because it's not, however Chantal has put her own unique spin on it making it her own. The story is seamless and brimming with emotion. A few unexpected surprises had me gaping... that one with Logan.. WTF!!!! Shocked to the core.
Super sweet slow burning romance with a little of everything. I just adored it.
I kindly received this ARC from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Breaching the Contract is a well-written story with an interesting plot. I liked how the book flowed. Good!!
This one was a great fun and quick read. The story flowed well and I was keen to see what was going to happen next. The attraction was instant but hesitant. The chemistry was off the charts once they gave in to each other, finally! There was humor laced through and it enhanced the story and characters. There was one thing I did not see coming and it made me tilt my head and think "uh, ok, alright." But there was no angst, which was good, it would not have fit. Great characters, great plot, great scenes!
The read was exactly what I expected from Chantel!
This book is a feel good book that will leave you satisfied in the end when everyone gets their own HEA.
I received a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
Kat, having just graduated from Law School, has gotten a job with a top firm in town. She has mainly been working with one of the partners Jason, he having hired her. He has been a great mentor and very encouraging and supportive.
Then Jason has a family emergency and has to leave, putting her in the hands of the other partner Tristan. He is short tempered and critical. To top it off, he has her doing his personal errands like picking up his kids from school and babysitting. As Kat spends time with Tristan's kids and in his home, she starts to see a different man. A man she likes and is attracted to.
Tristan is very attracted to Kat, which is why he has spent so much time sending her elsewhere. She is always on his mind. It isn't right, he is a partner with the firm and his thoughts are unprofessional.
Will Tristan and Kat come together on terms where they can work together? Will they have a personal and social life?
I have read MC books by this author, which I have always enjoyed. I found myself really getting into the characters and I attribute that to the authors' good writing. I felt like I knew Kat, where she came from and how hard she worked. Tristan, because of his crankiness and avoidance of Kat, was a bit more difficult but that was intentional. We would know him as Kat got to know him and learn about the man.
I really liked this story and look forward to more from this author!
Kat just passed the bar and landed a prestigious job with a top law firm. Her boss is great and she's learning a lot. Then she meets his partner in the firm, Tristan. Sparks fly but they need to remain professional. Of course, it gets more difficult the longer they are around each other. Enjoyable romance.
This is my first book by this author and I LOVED it. I only have two complaints about it. One is it is the first person, from only Kat's side. I would have loved to know what Tristan was thinking. Second, I wished it was longer.
But despite that I really loved this story. It has lots of hot sex scenes and Kat was a really fun character. I loved her with the two kids and she really gives Tristan run for his money. The description about this book is very accurate. But we do see Jaxon working with Kat for a few chapters. Then he disapears from the story and Kat's work life goes downhill.
But Kat does not let anything stop her and thats what I loved about her. Tristan comes around and thats when the wtory really gets fun. This is a sweet, hot romance and I really enjoyed it.
Just can't connect with the characters. It's missing something that her MC series had. Great author but this one didn't do it for me.
If the book synopsis appeals to you, this short lawyers in love romantic tale likely will, as well. You pretty much get exactly what the well scripted book summary promises. In my opinion, that’s always a good thing.
Told in the heroine’s first person POV, you definitely feel the chemistry between Katerina and Tristan and witness an emotional connection develop, mainly due to her spending time with him and his two children. Without a doubt, around 70% into it, a couple off the charts steamy scenes heat up their relationship like a switch has been flipped and take things to a whole new level.
For me, Kat made this story work. I loved how smart, capable, and determined she was to tackle whatever was put in front of her, all with a smile on her face. This girl is going places and nothing is going to stop that from happening, folks.
Tristan is a 30 year old widow who loved his deceased wife. But, not to worry, a lot of time is not spent reflecting back on that relationship. He’s a co-partner at a law firm Kat’s just been hired to work fresh out of law school. With an unexpected life-changing twist near the end that concludes with a rather abrupt epilogue/ending, he and Kat prove they have what it takes to move forward and continue life and love inside and outside the office.
Hunter, I’ll be hunting your story next, but I’ll need to be patient. Jaxon is next in line to find his lady love in Book 2, Seducing the Defendant. Here’s to hoping it will be equally entertaining.
Title: Breaching the Contract, Series: Conflict of Interest (Book 1), Author: Chantal Fernando, Pages: NL yet, first person heroine POV, a couple very steamy scenes after 70%, widow older hero with 2 kids, surprise reveal at the end, romance safe.
Book 1 - Breaching the Contract (Tristan & Katerina), 9/18/17, Pages: NL
Book 2 - Seducing the Defendant (Jaxon & Scarlett), 11/14/17, Pages: 320

This book was absolutely terrible! There are no redeeming qualities about it. I could not even finish it. So bad.
The family aspect of the story rounded out an otherwise conventional instalove romance. The characters got over their hesitation about the whole conflict of interest thing really quickly!
Breaching the contract was an interesting quick read about two layers, coworkers who are not supposed to involve. So they have a love-hate relationship. Katerina and Jaxon have an instant attraction when they first meet on the street but it soon changes when they find out that they work at the same law firm. But spending time together that its magic and one day they fell under the attraction. It is a classical love romance with standard characters, it is not memorable book, story or characters and it will be quickly forgotten I'm afraid
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
