Sweet story. I especially liked Adam. I would have liked a little more from Alex's point of view.

This book was an interesting take on a traditional theme: a nice girl pinned under the weight of her cold and unfeeling (dare I say evil?) parents' controlling demands and expectations meets nice guy who thinks she is swell just as she is and has to convince her of this, In this story, Ally is tethered to these odious people by a huge bag of guilt over an incident in her childhood they have made her feel responsible for to solidify their control. Adam, our hero, works diligently to convince her to shed the guilt and the parents' control. Problem is, he is passionate about his career that requires him to travel frequently, allowing her to slip back into their web.
The story is told from Adam,s point of view, which I really enjoyed. The problem was that this left me with not much empathy for Ally, at least in the beginning. She seemed like a limo dishrag of a person, and I honestly could not understand what there was about her that caused him to have the insta-Love reaction, But about halfway through I warmed up to her, especially when we got to see her relationship wth her awesome aunt.
I found many of the plot devices to be unrealistic and strained. Ally's mother and step-father were totally one dimensional. While there are parents who are horrible to their children, it was a stretch to believe they were able to maintain their social position and keep their daughter so isolated. Ally had only one friend whom she didn’t see often despite the fact that she was a grown woman with a professional career. I understand I she felt she needed to pay her parents back for her education, but at some point anyone with even a touch of gumption would have told them to pound sand. Then there was the amnesia thing, Does this really happen in life as often as it does in books?
Despite all the above, the story somehow worked and was engaging. Reading her aunt's dialogue was worth getting through the less believable parts. There are some good plot twists but the truly golden part, in my view, was the way Ally and Adam had to grow and work their way back to each other. Overall it was a good tale and an entertaining way to pass a few hours.

My Image of You by Melanie Moreland was a beautiful and heartwarming read.
The storyline captured my interest from the prologue and held it all throughout the book. The writing is strong, the angst well done and the characters Adam and Alex are likable, easily relatable and I loved watching them come together.

My Image of You by Melanie Moreland is a touching and romantic read, perfect if you're looking for a heartwarming read this weekend.

4 stars.
This book was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It was a very well-written, sweet and tender love story with a ton of angst .
After reading the prologue, I was always waiting for the moment when everything would fall apart between Adam and Ally and it made for some really intense reading. I wanted so badly to flip to the end and check for a HEA. Needless to say there is one.
Adam was such a sweet guy and I liked how Ally blossomed when she was with him. They were meant for each other. Great, entertaining and angsty read.
This is my first book by Melanie Moreland and it won't be my last.

“Ally, it’s me.” My voice broke. “Please, baby. Please don’t leave. Stay with me. You’re my Nightingale.”

This was a lovely story. This will be a difficult review to write because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. The book blurb really doesn’t do the story justice.

The story started out with a tease of the couple being separated but not knowing why. Luckily, the author did not take us on an annoying trip back and forth through time. (my least favourite storytelling) Instead, we went back to the beginning and started with a great “meet cute” for the couple.

Adam Kincaid, a daredevil photographer, had a chance encounter with Ally Robbins, a nurse. Their chemistry came pouring through the pages and I instantly liked both of them. I kept trying to figure out what conflict was going to present itself but I was continually wrong in trying to guess each wrinkle in Adam and Ally’s story as it progressed.

“You’re not a serial killer, are you?”
I arched my eyebrow. “As if I’d admit that when you were falling into my trap so easily?”

Some might argue that things developed quickly between these two, but I was right there, along for the ride and loving every minute of it. I totally bought into their instant connection, particularly as each of their histories came to light. I have only read one other Melanie Moreland book, but I am seeing a pattern in her rich, troubled histories with her heroes and heroines. Ally’s, in particular, was quite powerful and really shaped where the story went.

“I wasn’t going to come back.”
“I figured that out, but you did.” I took a deep swallow of my wine. I needed to know. “Why?”
“I couldn’t— I couldn’t stay away,” she admitted.”

Adam’s quest to “win Ally back” was so incredibly sweet and caring. I couldn’t believe how well he dealt with the unique and bizarre situation. I kept applauding how he handled Ally, with such restraint and love, always putting her well being first. Though the “situation” that pulled them apart was very surreal, I couldn’t care less. I was just happy to watch it all come together.

Loved this story!

My Image of You by Melanie Moreland was a great read!

This novel is packed full of so much emotion, that I never knew what to feel. My heart was going in so many different directions, that I was a blubbering mess while reading.

Adam and Alexandra were two characters who will give you feels. They have such a unique and rather dynamic connection, that is very intriguing to read about!

I definitely enjoyed this novel, and I can't wait to read more from Melanie in the future!

4/5 Stars!

From the bottom of my black heart... I'm sorry. But this one wasn't for me.

It was overwhelming and emotional. It was painful and beautiful. It was agony and ecstasy all rolled into one.
It was perfect.

There are certain books that are so good, so heartfelt and engaging, that you know from the first they’re going to stay with you.

My Image of You is one of those books.

A beautiful two-part story told lovingly and emotionally by Melanie Moreland, it has haunting echoes of Flowers in the Attic and a deep, abiding, perfect love between Adam and Ally.

Simply put, My Image of You is a book that says so much, so beautifully, it’s near impossible not to be moved by it.

I loved the way we met and fell in love alongside Adam and Ally. How their connection felt so soul-deep that time didn’t matter. I loved that my heart dropped and ached when circumstances tore them apart. And I loved the ending.

The ending that showed the power of true love. It’s a rewarding conclusion to a story that I couldn’t help but binge read, by an author that I can’t help but adore.

And it’s just one of the reasons that, for me, My Image of You won’t fade away or be forgotten. Ever.

“You’re my reason, Nightingale. You’re what I’ve been looking for. My anchor.”

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of My Image of You, to read prior to this book's release... although I wasn't able to finish it before it went live.

I had read a couple of books written by this author before and had heard some buzz on Maryse's blog and in our goodreads group here...so I figured I had to, at least, give it a whirl.

The book itself says that it was unproofed, so I struggled a little bit with some proofy type issues. However, I am sure they will be (hopefully have been) already taken care of in the final print. Also, the beginning kind of dragged on for quite a while with nothing really getting resolved for a long time. Yet the chemistry between the main characters was palpable and the writing chops of the author was definitely discernable. It was a mixed bag for me.

At any rate, I have to give 3 stars for that killer epilogue alone!

So this is a sweet story, but it tended to be long winded at times.

Adam is a photographer who does anything to get the shot he wants. When he winds up in the hospital, he meets Alexandra (Ally/Alex). She is his nurse and he is immediately taken by her. He wants nothing more than to be with her. As he learns about her life, he grows even more protective and falls even more in love with her.

Alexandra has been living under a cloud since she was very young. Heartbroken, hated, and jaded, she keeps her head down and just tries to live her life without being noticed. When she meets Adam, she is confronted with someone who truly sees her. It's not something she is used to and craves, all wrapped in to an Adam shaped package.

Life gets in the way, Ally's parents are HORRIBLE people and I wanted bad things to happen to them. It was so much angst and hurt – almost too much in the pages. You want to root for the couple, but understand that sometimes, life gets in the way and there is no coming back.

I think that this would have been just as powerful of a story had it not been so long, as it seemed to draw out when it wasn't necessary. But, overall, it was enjoyable.

Adam meets Alexandra when he is rushed to the ER after falling and hitting his head. There’s something about her that makes Adam want to get to know her better. As he does, he realizes that Ally has had a hard life – not in a financial or physically abusive way, but rather a neglectful and an emotional abusive fashion.

Ally is cowed by the past and lives only to try to live up to her parents’ expectations. After all, it’s her fault that Ollie, her brother, is dead. At least that’s what she’s been told since he died.

Adam gives Ally the strength to move forward, to stand up for herself and what she wants out of life. As their life as a couple is finally coming together, Adam is sent out on one last assignment and Ally is resentful.

During his time away, things happen and life doesn’t go as planned.

Strength and courage from both Adam and Ally will give them their happily ever after.

My Image of You is touching and heart-wrenching. Adam, a thirty-three year old photographer, stumbles into Alex’s life (quite literally) after winding up in hospital, where she works as a nurse. Adam is care-free, preferring to live life spontaneously, whereas Alex is more rigid; her life is structured due to her upbringing.

Being a freelance photographer means Adam Kincaid is always moving, always trying to be close up to capture breathtaking shots, ones that are heartbreaking more often than not. During his latest assignment, he stumbles, winding up in hospital where the meets the beautiful Alexandra Robbins.

Alex lives a sheltered, controlled life under the spell of her cruel step-father and equally cold mother. She has spent years living with misplaced guilt over a situation she couldn't control. Despite everything, she's still a caring, loving person underneath.

There's an instant attraction between Alex and Adam. Quickly they invade each other's thoughts and begin to spend a great amount of time together, but not without the disapproving comments from Alex's parents.

While Adam had a caring, loving relationship with his parents, Alex’s connection to her parents is cold and unfeeling - her step-father and mother are more concerned about public appearances than be genuinely concerned with the well-being of their family.

It almost seems impossible for Adam and Alex to be a happy, functioning couple, especially with Alex's parents looming in the background. But Adam is determined to help Alex realise she is loved, she is an intelligent, caring woman who deserves more than what her parents give her.

Told mainly from Adam's point of view, My Image of You encapsulates the strengths, heart aches and determination couple's go through to be together. You get snippets of Alex's point of view towards the end, but it isn't often.

“You already live two separate lives – let me be part of the one that makes you happy.”

Well hello Adam Kincaid….welcome to the top shelf of book boyfriends! We know, we know….how unprofessional to start a review with an ode to the male character. But, it’s been a while since we’ve fallen in love from the first page of a book. And fall in love we did – because Adam– without question was just perfection in personality and heart; he was everything we love in a hero. He ticked all the boxes for us and our hearts won’t forget him in a hurry, that’s for sure. Adam told the majority of this story, so we felt like we completely knew this man inside out insofar as what was in his heart and the depth of his soul. A rugged dare devil of a photographer who lives life to its full potential in the eye of the storm. Literally.

“I want to start taking pictures so full of beauty they’ll help rid my mind of all the darkness I’ve been capturing for so long. The same way you’ve banished the darkness out of my heart and filled it with light.”

This is our first book by Melanie Moreland and we loved every single minute spent captivated by her story and falling in love with her characters. My Image of You had just about everything and the kitchen sink in it -but- somehow it worked and it made for a fabulously sexy, emotional, intriguing and entertaining read. It made the romantics in us swoon and whilst parts of the story were predictable, cheesy or well-trodden, we never really felt it hampered our enjoyment as we just cared too damn much about the characters and their love story.

“This need I have – to take care of you. It’s so important to me. I’m worried I may overwhelm you.”

Our hearts bled for Adam’s ‘Ally’, her life was a lonely one with a messed up family who never really saw her, yet forced her to be someone she wasn’t. There was no love, no compassion nor any comfort. She’d lived the majority of her life under a cloud of guilt and responsibility, stripping her of any self-worth and strength, believing the words from those who should ultimately love and protect her. Whilst strength and courage did live in her heart, it was surrounded by a brick wall made of years of hurt, tragedy and spite aimed at her. Only one man could possibly knock down that wall; brick by brick. A man who’d do literally anything for his nightingale….sigh….Adam. We could wax lyrical about all the reasons we fell in love with him. Actually, we think we already did!

“I’m not easy to take on. I’m moody, blunt and demanding.”

Adam Kincaid is a 33 yr. old well known freelance photographer living in Toronto. He's very talented & travels all over the world to remote locations. His job can sometimes be dangerous, & he's known for taking risks. He has an accident while working, and is taken to Toronto General Hospital where he meets a beautiful, kind nurse named Alexandra Robbins. She's his very own Florence Nightingale. As she cares for him he feels an intense connection. There's just something different about this stunning woman, & he wants to explore it.

Adam & Ally begin spending time together & in a couple days she's completely taken over his thoughts. They both fall fast & hard, and want to spend as much time together as possible. Ally made Adam for once want to stay in one place & build a life with roots. She was quickly becoming the most important thing in his life & as he learns about her troubles he wants to protect her. She has very controlling parents who try to run her life. Suddenly she disappears & he's lost without her. She has become his home, & it kills him to be apart. He comes close to losing her forever, & decides he will do whatever it takes to get her back, and vows to fight for her.

I really enjoyed this book. It was full of so much love & emotion, and really touches the heart. Such a beautiful story!

My Image of You by Melanie Moreland was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. A romantic insta-connection story of hope and redemption.

The story is mostly told in Adam’s point of view. He is a well-known photographer known for taking risks to get the shot. When he is injured, he meets a nurse that completely captivates him. He is determined to get to know her. I loved Adam. He was strong, determined, sweet and protective.

Alexandra, Ally, has been controlled by her family for a long time. Because of guilt, she continues to do what they say. Their controlling nature does now allow them to have Adam in her life. But love cannot be denied. Ally was such a good person. She was sweet and caring.

As Ally and Adam get to know each other, they quickly form a connection. But they have so much against them. Her controlling parents and his career choice to name a few. This story builds on their struggles to be together. It was sad, romantic and hopeful all at once.

I truly enjoyed My Image of You. It was a captivating story with characters that are endearing. Sweet, romantic and emotional. The journey is hard, but so worth it.

Beautifully written story that kept me hooked as I turned each page watching the story unfold between Alexandra and Adam which made this a very enjoyable and entertaining read!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Adam is the photographer who will take any risk to get the perfect picture and that is how his latest escapade has landed him in the hospital under the care of Alex his sexy nurse.

Alex has everything money can buy however due to a tragic incident ten years ago she has spent every day since then trying to make amends to her mother for something that wasn’t her fault.

From the moment he met Alex his feelings for her were something he had never felt before and he knew that they belonged together. Alex has spent years trying to please her parents and she knows that Adam is not what they had planned for her but the draw to him is too strong to deny. When they are torn apart Adam will do whatever is necessary to prove to Alex that they are soulmates but will she agree?

I loved how protective and loyal Adam was and the connection and chemistry between them was intense! If you like a story about insta-love then this is the one for you. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Review ** spoiler alert ** *Thank you NetGalley for the ARC

I think the writing is pretty decent in this book, but Ally's decisions and general lack of emotional stability, coupled with the even more unbelievable accident towards the end, make it hard for me to like this story. The idea of a bad-boy/good-girl romance is always appealing, but these 2 characters had too much separating them to be believable. I liked that Adam was a bad-boy who could express his emotions (at times it made me nauseous). Ally was an unlikeable basket case. Seriously, a smart girl like her with at least 1 quality friend would be putting up with her mother and stepfather's nonsense for so long? She was so damaged by her past (they both had trials in their pasts that could rival Job's! a little over the top!) I doubt she could conjure up much confidence to have all the sex and romance she shares with Adam during the first half of the book. She starts making strides towards independence then freaks out because his phone call gets cut off. I didn't buy it. Don't get me started on the memory loss issue...it was ridiculously corny. I read some other reviews and maybe I'm just too old now for these younger couples--I seem to be the only one with problems with the characters and the storyline.

So this is the first book that I have read by this author and I am absolutely in love with it, the characters Alex & Adam & the author! This book sucked me in and capture my heart and soul! Its captivating, sweet, swooning, sexy, angsty & some parts/characters infuriating. This will hit all the feelers and more! Absolutely beautifully written and could not or want to put it down.
