Princess Irina Volkonsky has been in love with Lord Henry Radcliffe since she was a young girl, but until recently Henry had not seen her as a women. They have recently been reunited in London, and both are attracted to one another, but both are haunted by their pasts. Henry is tormented by his captivity during war and feels like he is too broken to be able to fully love someone. Irina is pursued by many eligible men, but only wants Henry, and she too is plagued by memories of being kidnapped by her Uncle when she was younger.
The authors of this book do a really good job of allowing the reader to feel the emotions of the characters, and the struggles they are facing. While the plot wasn't very complex, the emotion of the story was deep, and engaging, and wouldn't let me put the book down.
Phenomenal story!
Henry the Earl of Langlevit is a broken man he's seen and done things he can't forget or escape from, his only release is through sexual liaisons and physical exertion. His past as an agent for the Crown marks him as unworthy for love definitely not marriageable.
The only woman who has come close to changing his mind is Princess Irina Volkonsky. Her bubbly personality and sensuality has him constantly aroused.....but she's off limits!
Princess Irina Volkonsky is bored with everything about the ton with balls and frivolous things she yearns for something more. Years now she's been in love with only one man -Henry the Earl of Langlevit , she longs for him to see her as a grown woman, not the little girl he rescued a long time ago.
Everything changes for both Henry and Irina with one very passionate unforgettable kiss and a game of seduction ensues the stakes are high and everything they hold dear will be gambled. The ultimate prize-LOVE!!!
This was a sensational story I ADORED IT!!! It has everything you want in a romance , intrigue, mystery a friend turned villain an abduction and plenty of steam to warrant a fan! Will definitely be looking forward to more books from these very talented authors.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher through NetGalley for my honest unbiased opinion.
Absolutely beautiful story! Princess Irina has loved Henry, Earl, since she was fourteen, and he had rescued her from kidnappers. Now , at nineteen, she was the Belle of three Countries, yet Henry would not pay attention to her. He had been emotionally damaged during the war. What we know now, as PTSD, he had been tortured while being held prisoner! Their story is now in my top nine for this year! Absolutely Must Read! I highly recommend! Thanks! Enjoy!

Princess Irina Volkonsky is bored with the amusements of Paris and has been convinced to have another season in London. She by as turned down many offers of marriage, which has given her the reputation if an ice queen. That's not true at all, it's just that the only man she wants thinks she us still a child.
Henry Radcliffe, Earl of Langlevit by as changed drastically since his imprisonment in France. He carries many scars, some physical and others mental. He has to marry this year but he is not fit to be a husband.
The scandalous behaviour of our heroine could put her in grave danger. The stubbornness of our hero could make many people very unhappy.
A very amusing, but at times emotional story. Lots of excitement, adventure and wonderful characters. This is part of a series, so you will meet characters from previous books but you can definitely read this as a stand alone.
I loved it.
Thanks Entangled Publishing, LLC and netgalley for this ARC.
Fast paced, fun, but still full of honest emotions and some backstabbing betrayals. My favorite of the series.
Definitely a buy buy buy buy buy book"! A five star review and more if I could give it. Arguably to many a four star read, however, with all this book has I went five! A novel that was engrossing as well as imagination awakening. A story line with plots and twists and the unexpected while still giving a romance that was heart touching. Reality at times but fantasy in others. Either way this book will keep the readers attention and leave you wanting more at the end. The authors are extremely talented and new to me for reading. I will not hesitate to keep a watch for them in the future. This book was unique and captivating in so many aspects! I can only say buy and enjoy! I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom
'My Hellion, My Heart' by Amalie Howard, Angie Morgan is Book Three in the "Lords of Essex" series. This is the story of Lord Henry Radcliffe and Princess Irina Volkonsky. I have read the other stories (and loved them!) but I feel this can easily be a standalone book.
Irina has been in love with Henry since she was a young girl around the age of 14. But Henry only saw her as a young girl and his mother's ward. Even when she had her coming out he didn't seem to take notice of her. Now she is coming back to London after being away for awhile. Max her best friend has set up a wager on who will win her hand in Marriage. Max did tell Irina of his plan to do the wager and Irina thought it might be a way to bring out Henry to acknowledge her.
Henry has been fighting his past when he was help captive that caused him scars inside and out. Dealing with his inside pain with outside pain via the bedroom and elsewhere. When he first sees Irina again at her coming out he at first doesn't recognizes her and approaches her. When he does recognizes her he tries to brush her off and hurry away. Not wanting her to know the intense desire he felt for her. Now she is back, and his mother is making demands that he move forward and marry. But he can only think of Irina but he doesn't want to hurt her.
Henry did go back and forth with his feelings with treating Irina but overall I understood he was fighting demons inside himself. Irina was a good strong heroine that I enjoyed watching her story play out.

This story is set in the 19th century. It starts off in Paris and continues in London and Essex. It's the season when all the eligible batchelors and young maidens attend functions, in the hope of finding a suitable match.
Henry, the Earl of Langlevit is reluctant to settle down. Whilst working for the crown he was captured, imprisoned and tortured. His physical and psychological scars are not obvious whereas his good looks and physique stand out. He is plagued by nightmares and his escapism is sex. It has come to a point where he has to get married and produce heirs or lose his title. It's part of an ongoing agreement.
Irina is a Princess, well known for going against etiquettes. She has refused many proposals since she lost her heart to the one man that she can't have. Max is her best friend and partner in crime. They decide to leave Paris and spend part of the season in London and create havoc!
Irina's crush for Henry has developed into something deeper. Everytime she sees him, she goes weak at the knees. He doesn't think that he is good enough for her because of his past but, whenever the opportunity arises, he can't keep his hands off her. He gives her hope, then he pushes her away. The situation appears to be hopeless and they both make alternative arrangements!
When Henry decides to fight for what he wants and Irina decides to come clean, an unexpected situation comes into play. Henry's life is at risk and Irina is shocked when she discovers that they have been betrayed. The traitor and his reasons are even more shocking! Can they find a way out of this traitorous predicament?
This story portrays two main characters who have been in situations which have left them with post traumatic stress disorders. One far worse than the other. Love is a powerful healer! It's a moving story with convincing characters. It's well balanced with equal portions of sorrow, deceit, greed, betrayal as well as love, passion, fun and laughter. The suspense, especially towards the end kept me glued to the book. As soon as one problem is solved, another one rears its ugly head. A nail biting, captivating and romantic story well worth reading.
I was kindly issued with an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
Princess Irina Volkonsky has become one of my most favorite characters. She cannot conform to the society's rules, and loves to cause trouble wherever she goes. After spending some time in France, and breaking numerous hearts, she is back in London. There are many young gentlemen vying for her hand in marriage, but the only one she wants doesn't pay any attention to her. she will make him notice her no matter what.
She is the most beautiful woman in Town, and no longer the little girl Lord Henry Radcliffe knew. It is becoming more and more difficult to resist her. Will he be able to stay away for long. Knowing that he must marry soon, and she is definitely not the kind of woman he wants as his wife, she is too innocent, and doesn't know what kind of a man her really is. But she is also the only one he can't stop thinking about. Will they be able to make things work or are they making a mistake? No matter, they must try because resisting each other is just not possible any more....
The book is very well-written, with twists and turns which will keep readers on their toes. I enjoyed reading it a lot and hope that others do too.
book 3 in the lords of essex series, my hellion, my heart, brings together princess irina volkonsky and lord henry radcliffe, earl of langlevit. she's loved him since she was fourteen, but hasn't seen him since a mission in france went terribly wrong for him. the trauma of his time there has made him feel disconnected from emotion and unworthy of happiness.
princess irina is in her third season as the novel opens, having spent a season in st. petersburg and turned down many a proposal, and a season in paris where she turned down many more, she's gained the reputation of being frigid and an ice princess. the truth is that she won't marry someone who she doesn't love. and she loves henry. and no other man has ever been able to meet the ideal he's set for her. and as henry does everything he can to prove that he isn't worthy of irina, she recognizes that what she feels for him is something beyond a girlhood crush. he's it for her, even if he doesn't want her.
and this is the conundrum because henry wants her desperately, but he denies it. he doesn't believe that she could love him. he doesn't believe that he can be the husband irina deserves. so much so that he'd rather enter into a sham of a marriage with his best friend's widow than consider marrying irina. it's true that henry acts like a jackass for large chunks of the novel. he both reaches for irina and pushes her away. but the kind of trauma he is suffering, the pain he endures as a result of what happened—not just physical pain, but emotional—allow you to understand why he acts that way. even if it's clear that if he allowed himself to open up to irina he'd find a way to heal.
what's wonderful about irina is that she is so strong. henry puts her through hell, and she stands strong. she knows what she wants. she knows that she deserves more than what he gives her. she makes mistakes, but she also owns them. and when she and henry are forced into a dangerous situation by someone irina has always considered a friend, she doesn't lose her head. she stays strong and courageous and faces her worst fears head on.
My Hellion, My Heart by Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan
Lords of Essex #3
A princess and an Earl find a future together, eventually, in this wonderful historical romance. As the blurb mentions, Henry is scarred physically and emotionally after his experiences in war. Irina has had a tendre for Henry since she was fourteen and really would like to spend the rest of her life with Henry BUT he is sure he is NOT the man for her - even though the two definitely feel a spark when together. With Henry pushing Irina away, Irina’s scallywag cousin wagering on Irina’s future along with all the young men of the Ton, Henry needing a wife to maintain his earldom, a kidnapping or two, some very evil men to deal with and plenty of drama and some smoldering interactions this is a book that kept me turning pages from beginning to end. Having not read the first two books of the series was not a problem although I do now want to find out what stories were told in them.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4.5 Stars
Read this in one sitting, a breathless story with lots of different elements, mystery .intrigue and a spicy love story. Loved it.
I received an ARC copy of this book from netgalley.
Princess Irina Volkonsky, is given the name of Ice Princess, to name just one of several. She has been offered for at least seven times this season and more if you count last season as well. But none have excited her, enough to say yes. Earl of Langlevit was once a spy for the crown in France. He felt he was a broken man and deserved nothing.
The descriptions are vivid and lush. They help bring the story depth. The characters are varied, realistic and full bodied. The plot is amazing and has twists that will surprise you. It is concise, cohesive, moves smoothly and answers all your questions. I loved it, The authors have done a wonderful job. I can't wait to read another book of theirs, thank you. I received this book from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed.
Publisher's Description:
He fought battles for crown and country. She waged war for his heart.
Lord Henry Radcliffe, the scarred but sinfully sexy Earl of Langlevit, is a beast. The only way Henry can exorcise the demons of his war-ravaged past is through intense physicality. In and out of bed. An endeavor that has no shortage of willing participants.
Intent on scandalizing London, Princess Irina Volkonsky is a hellion and every gentleman’s deepest desire...except for one. Irina knows better than to provoke the wickedly forbidding earl, but she will stop at nothing short of ruination to win the heart of the only man she’s ever loved.
But when one scandalous kiss makes dangerous passions ignite, neither of them can fight their sizzling attraction. When a sinister plot emerges to threaten them both, they will have to fight one last battle, this time for the ultimate prize...love.
My Thoughts:
This book is written on the same premise as another one I have read recently.
Irena has been in love with Henry for a long time. Irena is highly sought after even though she wants nothing to do with any of her suitors.
Henry feels marriage is not in his future. He runs an obstacle course daily in order to hold off his demons in the nightmares he has as a result of war.
Will Irena succeed in exorcising Henry's demons? Will love succeed where nothing else has?
This well written book has a storyline that kept me enthralled. I couldn't put it down. The characters and story are well developed and engaging.
I gave it 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 4.0 of 5.0 flames. Although our hero and heroine clearly desire one another their personal issues keep them from acting on their desires for most of the story.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
I so enjoyed "My Hellion, My Heart". It was a good solid romance with a wonderful plot. thanks!
Lurved. This! My fav of the series; I absofreaking adored Henry and Irina!
An ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
Took a while to get into and hold my interest. Nothing really to set it apart form other stories.
4.5 stars
Lord Henry Radcliffe, the scarred but sinfully sexy Earl of Langlevit still hasn’t fully recovered from the time he was captured & tortured by the French & he tries to exorcise the demons by intense physicality. In and out of bed. An endeavour that has no shortage of willing participants.
Intent on scandalizing London, Princess Irina Volkonsky is a hellion and every gentleman’s deepest desire...except for one. Irina knows better than to provoke Henry, but she will stop at nothing short of ruination to win the heart of the only man she’s ever loved since she was fourteen.
This is the third book in the series & although we catch up with the characters from the first two books this book could well be a standalone book. Both Henry & Irina are fighting their demons & only seem to find peace when they are together but Henry in particular feels he is too scarred to be able to love. Irina still doesn’t like confined spaces following her kidnapping five years ago & she still has nightmares. The characters are well developed & are believable, the relationship between Henry & Irina develops gradually & we as readers are aware of Henry’s feelings before he is. The dialogues are witty & entertaining. The pace of the book is very good & the tempo is kept up throughout, the climax being fast paced. The villain is a tortured soul who had my pity as well as Irina’s I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all three Lord of Essex books & this was my favourite. I look forward to more books from the authors
A good, solid historical romance with a well crafted wounded hero and a strong heroine who also carries some baggage of her own.
I really liked the hero, Henry (the Earl of Langlevit), a tortured man, still deeply haunted by his time as a spy for the crown and the darkness and pain he has been through. And of course the brazen, beautiful princess Irina, who in the end turns into a fierce female warrior, is the one who can heal him.
Although I liked the depiction of what would be currently considered as PTSD, I thought that, in the real world, Irina’s soothing power would never be enough for so serious a situation.
But they are very good together, both strong, tender and sweet to each other (“Both fractured by their pasts, they had found strength and a haven in each other.” - loc. 4725, quote from ARC). I liked how their relationship developed.
I also enjoyed the rendering of the villain, all that duplicity and foul play was wickedly nice!
