Many thanks to Netgalley for this arc! (Sorry I read it late, ha ha.)
I've never been to Montana, but this book makes me want to go! You can't help but admire Skye, as she packs up bag and baggage (and her cat, named after Chip Gaines) to head off on a new adventure and a new love... but life has other plans and suddenly her world is tipped topsy-turvy. She finds herself exploring new interests and new hobbies. I don't think I've tried huckleberries, either, but this story definitely makes them sound appealing!
I don't know how realistic it is that a random stranger (Harvey) would invite you into his home, his business, his life, but it's very probable that a fling from the past would suddenly "ghost" you. (I'm glad my online romance turned into a happily-ever-after!) In all seriousness, Harvey (and Bucky!) was a great character, and I love how Skye didn't just sit around and feel sorry for herself - but she learned to love herself and to try new things. Seattle has always been on my bucket list!
A lovely story about a woman who gives everything up travels across the country after meeting a man. The man sitting beside her, Harvey, on the plane knows her boyfriend and hates him. He tells Skye some home truths about Vance which she doesn't believe until she reaches Billings.
Skye must learn to pick up the pieces and build a new life for herself.
Would recommend
A fun and entertaining story about starting anew.
Skye feels stuck in life. Her solution? Pack up her most cherish belongings and leave Rhode Island for a new life with a guy (Vance) from Billings, Montana she met online and has only spent 1 weekend with.
On the long plane ride, she discovers the nice guy (Harvey )next to her is from Billings, Montana. The problem is that he knows the guy she's left her life behind for and he's telling her he's scum. The reason he knows this is that Vance stole his wife!
Once in Billings, Skye discovers that Harvey wasn't exaggerating. Vance casts her aside, having enjoyed the chase with no desire for the spoils. Lucky for Skye, Harvey gave her his card if she needs anything.
Soon, Skye is both working with and renting space from Harvey. She expands her work options by taking a job at a local furniture store. Eventually, love starts to bloom and all looks good until a run in with Vance shows her how much baggage Harvey still carries.
This was a fun read with the reminder that we can always start anew. But, first, you need to let go of the past if you want to see a different future.
What a wonderfully written book! This is not a romance in the typical sense of romance books. It's about a woman, Skye Littleton willing to uproot her life for a man. After she sells everything she owns to move to his home state, it completely falls apart.
Along the way, she meets another man who shows her, her true worth. It's not so much about her finding a new man as it is about her finding her true self.
This book is charming, warm, funny, and has some heartbreaking moments. This author is new to me, but I plan on reading more of her work.
Most of us, at some point in our lives have finally felt enough is enough of this, taken a leap of faith into a new situation… and had the rug pulled out from under our feet as we land. Yeah, Skye’s experiencing that right now. Her family is a group of worthless people who would rather tear her down than lift her up… ever. She’s headed out of the state she’s grown up in, leaving behind just about everything to be with the man who says he has a new life waiting for her with him at her side in Montana… except maybe not really.
Big Skye Littleton is a thoughtful, realistic journey into self-worth, self-confidence and finding out that you are an amazing person with gifts you never knew about. As Skye discovers just how bad her situation is right now after being stood up, she’s grateful for the mind-saving seat mate who just might turn into a friend, if not more. While Harvey might have been proven right about Vance, he’s also willing to help Skye begin her new life in Montana with no strings attached.
This time it’s Sky’s turn to shine as she makes a new life for herself on her terms, her rules and her decisions. No one to be compared to constantly. Just Skye, Harvey, her cat and the chance at new friends, new experiences and a new beginning. Big Skye Littleton comes alive with vivid descriptions of beautiful Montana, with a realistic feel between Skye and Harvey as well. It is possible to pick up the pieces of your life and land in a good spot.
I enjoyed this story very much. I’d recommend it for any reader who enjoys Romance in any genre. It’s got a good life lesson that we all could benefit from reading.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
This was an absolutely wonderful read! It took you from Rhode Island to Montana and on to Washington. Being from Massachusetts and close to Rhode Island, I could relate to so many of the places and I loved that. The vivid descriptions of Montana made me want to go there. It is big sky country after all. This is a story about love, loving yourself being the most important. Skye has always felt less than and this is about her journey to find herself and what she wants out of life, rather than what people expect of her. She takes us on this journey with her. I just loved the two main characters, Skye, of course, and also Harvey, whom she met on the plane. The characters are quirky and realistic. They have their ups and downs, as we all do. They jumped off of the pages and into my life! The story flows well from beginning to end. You will smile, laugh and get angry. You will love this book. My very favorite quote is: "You have to be at home inside yourself first. Then you can live anywhere." I highly recommend this quick read. You will love it as much as I did!
I received this book from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing, in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this wonderful book!
This book is about Skye Littleton, a woman who wants more out of life, than the simple, not much excitement kind of life, she's been living. So she packs up everything and moves to Montana from Rhode Island. Not even off the plane yet, all her plans start to unravel. The laughs and heart jerks from here on out help navigate Skye, to the person she feels like she should be.
I loved this book and it's author. I cannot wait to read something else by this author. The characters are well developed and Montana is described so vividly, I have to go and visit.
Thanks for this adventure!
Skye Littleton follows her heart and makes a life changing decision to uproot herself and move to Billings, Montana. Soon after arriving she finds herself lost, heart-broken and alone. Skye begins a soul searching journey where she seeks to not only truly find herself but also be successful in her career. Harvey, a recently divorced father of two, finds a friend in Skye while also trying to battle his own insecurities and sense of failure.
As a contemporary fiction novel I wanted just a bit more out of the conflict in "Big Skye Littleton". I kept waiting for more drama or suspense. I was hoping for Skye to meet up with Vance a second time and have a reconnection/fallout or some mystery. Vance was far to dull of a character in my opinion, His dialogue was really only a few lines throughout the entire novel. Harvey was passive and caring but not deep enough for me. Harvey needs to have some negative quality other than just his outburst during the chance meeting with Vance, Deb and Skye. Skye herself was likeable and fun, but a little unreliable. At times she was all about her career and aspirations towards interior design and yet she had so many jobs throughout the novel and seemed a bit flighty when it came to employment.
Overall I would give this book a three out of five. I enjoyed the quick read but was left feeling like it lacked substance. I would recommend more drama or suspense in the conflict of the storyline.
I also want to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.
This is both a happy ending and a cautionary tale! Skye's decision to move to Montana with her cat to live with Vance, who she met on line but not in person is, arguably, ill considered but she's got both luck and pluck on her side. Harvey, who she meets on the plane, is the person you'd like to meet in these circumstances- kind and honorable. Skye picks herself up and moves on after her disappointment and this is the best. Lorello has written a novel that will make you smile, without being trite or twee. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Try this one for a positive read.
Really enjoyed this book, especially all the emotion; highs and lows, were well written and I loved it!
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
Skye was so excited to be moving to Montana
She meet her "dream" guy + she was moving to Montana to be with him.
On the plane, she start talking w/ Harvey, who happens to be the one that Vance stole the wife from.
What ? What ?
I couldn't believe it. It either happens in movies or books.
Now Skye has a decision to make.
Should she stay in Montana or go back to Rhode Island ?
She decided to stay in Montana.
I thought she made the right decision.
Who cares about Vance? He was a total loser.
Who knows, maybe this is a beautiful beginning for Skye.
I was so happy when Skye + Harvey got together.
They totally deserved each other.
Loved the storytelling + the characters.
I absolutely needed to read this book by this new (to me) author, at this time. Between all the thrillers I read and the grim state of the world right now, this book really hit the spot for me.
Skye Littleton works in retail. She kind of fell into it, she doesn't hate it but she isn't thrilled either. She tries her best to make a success of her career but when she meets Vance online, she is swept away by him and she sells almost everything she owns to move to Montana to be with him. Big mistake, BIG mistake! It turns out that Vance is the worst kind of guy - filling her head with sweet nothings and promises of a future together that he has no intention of making a reality. I thought that Skye handled the whole situation really well, although I was kind of waiting for her to slap his face or something, I would have done!
Luckily for Skye, she meets Harvey on the plane to Montana and he proves to be an excellent friend, a decent human being she can lean on. He isn't perfect, he has his demons too, but I love that the two of them complement each other so well, in so many ways.
This book, however, is not about Vance OR Harvey, it is about Skye herself. About how the messages she received whilst growing up shaped the adult she became. It is about standing up for yourself, following your heart, figuring out what your strengths and weaknesses are, going for gold, even if you aren't the smartest/best looking/most educated/intelligent etc etc person in the universe. Everyone has a gift (or more than one) and an inner voice that you should listen to. This was my favourite thing about this book :) I was cheering Skye on, all the way.
This really was a corker of a book. It was sweet without being saccharine, it was realistic without being nasty and it features characters that people can relate to.
I highly recommend this novel, 5 stars from me :)
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. Thank you to THE Book Club and NetGalley.
Big Skye Littleton, where do I start? Should it be with my initial feeling of OMG, what a dingbat THIS character is? No, it should be with the wonderful descriptions of the scenery and feel of Billings, MT, a place I often visited while living in MT. Hmmm....it should be with how very much I loved this book even though I started out thinking the main character was an idiot!
Yes, I loved this book! It's a feel good story about self-worth, self-image and yes, even a little about being wary of internet Lotharios. Who throws up their entire life after spending a weekend with someone they 'fell in love with' while chatting online? Someone that is extremely unhappy with where their life is just before they pitched it out the window.
That someone would be Skye Littleton and she really hit the jackpot when she met Harvey, who shared a few home truths with her on the plane to Billings. The fact that Skye didn't believe Harvey was just the start.
Big Skye Littleton will, in turns, have you cheering for the underdog, wondering about why someone would do such a thing, and cheering again. It's a fun roller coaster ride through the beautiful city of Billings, MT and one that I didn't want to end.
Thanks to Elisa Lorello, NetGalley, and the publishers for allowing me an ARC of this delightful novel by a new to me author. I will be seeking out more of her work.
This book was not a good match for me as a reader. I wasn't impressed with the constant use of swear words and I struggled to conjure up a mental image of the main character, Skye, until halfway through the book (Other than that she was overweight). To top it off the book ended without tying up the loose ends between Skye and her parents. I felt that the relationship between Skye and her parents should have been a stronger story line throughout the book.
This book has a huge heart. A real feel-good story that feels personal and leaves you warm inside.
A delightful, contemporary read that you simply can't fail to love.
Many thanks to Netgalley who provided me with this ARC. I chose to read it and give a voluntary and unbiased review.
Sweet and romantic but the meet cute and situation feel forced. Not very believable. Escapist fiction.
Big Skye Littleton is a super good book. I loved the story and the Montana setting. Lorello is a new author to me and I was impressed by her writing and will be reading more of her books.
If you're looking for a warm, fuzzy, feel good and beautiful story, this is the one for you. I had tears in my eyes a few times just because it's such a lovely story. Skye and Harvey are fantastic characters, I loved everything about them and the book. Huge 5 stars.
Skye Littleton said goodbye to her job, her best friend, and her home in Rhode Island to start over in Billings, Montana, with Vance Sandler, a gorgeous guy she met online. On her cross-country flight, Skye shares her happy story with her seatmate, Harvey Wright, a Billings resident who knows Vance—and his reputation for heartbreak. Harvey’s infuriating advice to Skye? Go home.
When Skye arrives, she discovers that Vance has changed his mind and wants nothing to do with her. Despite the setback, Skye is determined to rebuild her life and begin a new chapter in Montana’s largest city, which sometimes feels like a small town. With Harvey’s help, Skye finds a job—and a passion for organizing closets and clearing out clutter. But as she grows closer to Harvey, she finds herself homesick for her former life. Could Harvey be her future, or is she his chance at revenge? Can Skye finally trust her own heart enough to let it show her the way home?
I am so glad I read this book. It was great to see how Skye developed from being under confident to being a lovely confident woman.
I loved all the characters except one and I'll bet you can guess who that one is!
I want to read more books by Elisa Lorello. 4.5*
Big Skye Littleton by Elisa Lorello.
Big love can happen in the smallest of places. Skye Littleton said goodbye to her job, her best friend, and her home in Rhode island to start over in billings, Montana, with Vance Sandler, a gorgeous guy she met online.
This was a lovely feel good read. I loved the story and the characters. I loved how Harvey was. I loved the ending too. Highly recommended. 5*. Netgalley and lake union publishing and tbc on fb.
