Vanishing Point is the fourth book in Harris's Nikki Boyd Files series and I really enjoyed it. It's been a while since I read the previous books, but it didn't take me long to get into this story and I found myself eager to see how things would go.

I liked how it was a realistic story...it took years for any resolution in the case. I was curious who the killer was and mostly figured it out, which I loved. The book had a ton of suspense and the romance was nice. I liked how it was a second chance story.

All in all, Vanishing Point was a great read and I recommend it. I don't think you need to read the previous books in order to enjoy this one.

It's always a delight to come across an author with whom I can sit back and relax and get absorbed in the story knowing that I will be in good hands. For me, Lisa Harris is such an author.

Vanishing point had believable characters, good dialogue, a good storyline. I'm still not a big fan of murder mysteries and/or suspense. But it sure helps a lot when the writer is good!

Lisa Harris' Vanishing Point builds suspense one body at a time!

Garrett Addison had no idea that his first week on the job as a criminal investigator for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations would put him on the trail of an apparent serial killer. His first case is the murder of a young girl. The murder has at least one similarity to two others - a Polaroid photo, left with the body, taken of the girl just prior to her murder. The terror in her eyes chills Garrett, but with no other clues, he is stumped as to where to search next. As the body count mounts, will he be able to stop a killer before he (or she) strikes again?

FBI Special Agent Jordan Lambert is pulled into the case to assist TBI. Working with Garrett again brings back all the feelings she had for him back when they were in the police academy together. Can they work together to solve a case that has been percolating for over a decade, or will their feelings cloud their judgment?

Fourth book in the Nikki Boyd files series, Vanishing Point goes back in time to show how Nikki Boyd became an agent for the FBI following the disappearance of her teenage sister, Sarah. Covering about 10 years, Harris builds suspense with every new body. Finding this killer seems impossible, as the clues are few and no one has survived an encounter. I loved the slow build to the surprising ending.

Readers who enjoy the romantic suspense (with lots more suspense than romance) will enjoy Vanishing Point. I know I did. While this book is fourth in a series, it can be read as a stand-alone, but I can pretty much guarantee that, once you read this one, you'll WANT to go back and read the rest. I've enjoyed all of the books in this series. Harris knows how to build suspense and keep her readers flipping pages!

Revell and NetGalley provided me with an Advanced Reader's Copy of Vanishing Point. The choice to review this book is my own.

Garrett Addison's initiation to his new career as a criminal investigator for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is the murder of a young teen, the third in a series of similar crimes that points to a serial killer as the culprit. Enter the FBI, with Special Agent Jordan Lambert as one of the investigators, a woman who has personal ties to Garrett. Will the two teams be able to figure out the killer before more young women go missing?

The biggest problem that I had with this book is that the author tries to cover too much time. Vanishing Point is about a serial killer, but the urgency of the investigation and subsequent search does not come across in the writing. The romantic suspense aspect, as well as the Christian undertones take point, leaving the crimes as periphery elements. For these reasons, I would be hesitant to recommend Vanishing Point to other readers.

Thanks for sending me an arc, I do appreciate it. I wasn't able to get into this one and haven't been able to get back to it so I won't be leaving an official review at this time.

3.5 stars rounded up

This book definitely needs to be read after the Nikki Boyd trilogy even though the events start earlier. The romantic parts are VERY off screen and it felt tragic how long-drawn-out that part was. The story itself is episodic, which gives it more of a feel of a tv miniseries than a regular novel (four crimes connected to the same perp). I liked the uniqueness of this approach, but each episode really did lack details, and I had to know other things about Nikki and her own search for the killer to fill in the blanks. The fourth episode was the best and what convinced me to round up instead of down.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. However, my review is based off a final paperback copy I got a good deal on. A favorable review was not required.

This novel completely captivated me from the first page to the last. Lisa Harris is a new to me author, so I went into this book with no idea of her writing style or previous knowledge of other books in this series. I could not stop reading this book! I tend to read mostly romance or historical fiction, but every now and then I will read a thriller or suspense novel because I do enjoy them as well. I was so invested in the plot and story line of this book right from the start. The prologue was grabbing, and chilling, and totally had me hooked before I even hit chapter one. I really enjoyed that this story spanned over a long length of time. It made the story realistic and helped me as a reader invest in Garrett and Jordan as characters. With each chapter and each new victim I was more and more curious and anxious to discover the identity of the serial killer. The ending did not disappoint! I absolutely love being surprised at the end of a book! No spoilers here! Read the book! I felt that the romance in this book was sweet and very true to life. The characters had an attraction, but did not jump into a romance right from the start. I thought that was such realistic situation especially for these particular characters. I totally enjoyed this book. I have plans to start this series from the beginning! If you are a fan of suspense novels this book is a must read!

This novel should be read after the Nikki Boyd trilogy, as it finally deals with the identity of the Angel Abductor, the killer of Nikki´s sister Sarah.
Nikki is not the main heroine here, but she is present enough for the readers to catch up with her and her news.

What a ride! I like this best from all the Nikki Boyd novels. The novel deals with the hard question of the evil in the world. Also with the weakness, disappointment, the lost energy and the unsatisfying choices in life.
Agents Garrett and Jordan feel something for each other - still, even after the years. But life has got in the way - and by life I mean the mysterious killer, who can seemingly do no mistake. And years go and the case is unsolved, and they can not start to heal - the victims´s families have no conclusion and the police does not as well. But after the years, the killer (or copycat one?) might be back.

Wow. I wholly loved the first 80% of the book! The last parts deal with the killer too smart and too accidental for my taste, but still. This one is a good ride. And I like to finally have the conclusion to the abductor´s mystery.
I love how empathic this authoress is. And I love Garrett and Jordan together. I must confess that Nikki and Tyler are not so close to my heart, but Jordan and Garrett truly are. Maybe because both of them suffer and both of them fight? I like their mistakes and I like them standing up again.
Good read.

After being instantly captured by Pursued, the third book in Lisa Harris' Nikki Boyd Files series, I couldn't wait to read Vanishing Point and hopefully find out what happened to Nikki's sister.

Despite my high expectations and excitement over this book, it took a totally different journey than I expected. While there were definitely strong points in this story, like the suspense of trying to find out exactly what happened, I was really thrown by the fact that Nikki didn't appear at the beginning of this book.

What captured me in the previous book was the way the story started off with Nikki, that's even something I still remember, probably a year after reading the book. For me, the lack of this character at the beginning made the book feel lacking. It isn't that the story itself was bad because there was definitely suspense and times I wanted to find out who the Angel Abductor was, however since I expected to be following Nikki on this adventurous journey it made the beginning of the book confusing.

While this story was good, it wasn't great like the last book. I'm glad I read it so I could find out what happened and closure could be brought to the mystery around Nikki's sister.

If I were to read this book again, I would come with different expectations, knowing this book wasn't going to be about Nikki as much as it was a case Garrett is working on that eventually involves Nikki. I think that may have helped me enjoy this story more.

With Vanishing Point we finally learn about Nikki's sister and her disappearance. The truth is heartbreaking, but Lisa writes captivating stories and this one tops my list of must reads!

Vanishing Point by Lisa Harris is a book in the Nikki Boyd series. Fans of this author will be able to trace characters from previous books, but this book can still be read as a standalone novel. In this book, FBI agent Jordan Lambert works with criminal investigator Garrett Addison. These two have a history together, which makes the story even more interesting. In this book, they are tracking a serial killer that once killed Nikki Boyd's sister. The suspense in this novel never stops building and I would not recommend reading it until you have time to finish it too, because you won't be able to put it down. This is an amazing novel and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Christian suspense. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher. These opinions are entirely my own.

I was so eager for the final book in the exciting Nikki Boyd series and was looking forward to everything coming out at the end. This book was not quite what I expected nor did it quite measure up to the previous books. For one Nikki Boyd was not the main focus of this book and she wasn't a very central figure in the book, at least not as much as I would have liked.
Lisa Harris still did a great job at engaging the readers in the story line and weaving a fabulous story line, but I felt like the ending for this great series just fell a bit flat. Still it was an enjoyable mystery and kept me guessing until the end, I just wish there was a bit more to it.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love that this book keeps the character of Nikki Boyd in the storyline, while focusing on other characters. Another great read and excellent addition to the series. Can't wait to read the next book!

Vanishing Point (Nikki Boyd Files) by Lisa Harris

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Story Notes

Lisa Harris finally delivers the long awaited back story to her Nikki Boyd Files readers – what happened to Sarah Boyd?

With a story that spans more than 10 years of time Lisa Harris presents the unsolved case of Sarah Boyd – sister to FBI Agent Nikki Boyd and suspected victim of the Angel Abductor. This case has remained unsolved for many years and is the very reason Nikki Boyd walked away from her teaching career to become a cop. Ms. Harris takes her readers back to 2004 and starts at the beginning – with the first three girls taken and only two bodies found. Instead of focusing on Nikki, however, she will turn to the lead investigator on this case Garrett Addison and tell the story through his eyes. Garrett has been handed the case of the three missing girls his first week as an investigator for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation – a case that has turned deadly with the finding of two bodies. Determined to find the one responsible before someone else goes missing, Garrett jumps in with both feet, praying for the wisdom to see what may have been missed before. As his team investigates the latest crime scene, they find a Polaroid of the deceased girl before she died, great fear evident on her face. They also find the intact wallet of the victim in a nearby trashcan. Shocked at the brazen way in which this killer leaves clues, they quickly realize that whoever this murderer is has a precise and calculating mind. And, in spite of their best efforts, this case will not be closed anytime soon. Working alongside Garrett is his former girlfriend, Jordan Lambert, who works as an case analyzer for the FBI. Jordan spends much of her days behind a desk as she reviews cases and finds new leads to follow. This case will bring an end to that work, as she finds herself both drawn to the field work of the Angel Abductor case and Garrett. Neither of them really got over their breakup but they have tried to move forward with their lives and their work. But this case will take its toll on both of them, teaching lessons and breaking them down to what matters most – justice and forgiveness. And as more girls are taken and found dead, Garrett must keep his focus or he will risk losing his ability to find the killer. Ms. Harris created some very good characters with this back story of Nikki’s life. However, I found that the pacing of this story was a little slow. Her writing was excellent and the mystery well developed but I felt it just dragged a little in the middle of the book. Not to say that this isn’t very likely how cases of this magnitude work, I know that there are many cases that remain unsolved for decades before a resolution is found. I think the main problem I found was that the story was so far removed from the focus of the previous Nikki Boyd stories that I had a hard time connecting this plot to the others. On the other hand, I really loved the way that Ms. Harris developed her main characters to show a deeply human side of these investigators. Walking the fine line between hope and despair is a daily struggle for crime investigators and Ms. Harris was deliberate in showing the toll it takes on them. How often we forget that these men and women have family life outside of their work and it can greatly affect their ability to do their job. Sharing the grief of losing a beloved parent, the pain of a parent who disapproves of career choices, and the loss of true love from the choice to keep feelings inside allowed Ms. Harris to make her story real and relatable. So while there were a few pieces of this story that made it difficult to read there was so much more that made me glad I did. I had been given glimpses into this background of Nikki’s life and was happy to finally get the whole story. It seemed to me that this was one of those “necessary but not the best story” books that comes with every series. The one where there is a lot of information that needs to be told and therefore the plot will be a bit slower. But I have been able to round out my depiction of Nikki better in my imagination through this story so I believe that the next ones will only get better. I have this book on my birthday list and look forward to adding it to my shelves to read again. I will recommend this book to others as an important part of the story of Nikki Boyd – one that is not to be missed for those who are fans of these books. I am hoping there will be another installment of this excellent series soon as I am loving getting to know all of the ins and outs of this character.

I received this E-book free of charge from Revell Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation from either company for this review.

Vanishing Point is the 4th and final book in the Nikki Boyd series by Lisa Harris. While the first three books follow Nikki's life and come from her perspective, this book starts about 10 years before the others and gets to the point of her sister's abduction, which is the reason that Nikki left her teaching career and went to the Police Academy, later joining the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's (TBI) Missing Persons task force. This is the driving point in all of the books - seeking to find what happened to her sister and helping other families in the same situation as hers at the same time. Although this book introduces new characters - those who were working the case when her sister was abducted - and works primarily around their story, the last 3rd of the book takes place in modern day. Though Nikki is more of a background character in this book, we still get some closure on her story - we find out how things turn out with Tyler (her love interest in the other books) and most importantly, we find out what happened to Sarah all those years ago. This book is filled with action, suspense, romance and deep emotional turmoil. The characters are well developed and easy to like and the book was very well written. Because of the suspenseful nature, it was a pretty quick read as well. While this one could easily stand alone and be enjoyed on its own basis, if you plan to read the other books, I would recommend reading this one last as it does spoil some of the major plot points in the other books. I really enjoyed this one and would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good clean romantic suspense/thriller.

On the first week of Garrett Anderson's new job he is called to the scene of a gruesome murder of a young girl, the third in a series of seemingly connected killings, where a polaroid of the victim is left at the scene.

When the FBI is called in to help with the case, Garrett finds himself working with his old flame Jordan Lambert. As the killings continue and the killer begins to aim closer to home, Garret begins to question his abilities and if they will be able to bring the killer to justice.

This book is both a prequel and a sequel to the Nikki Boyd series, and covers a long span of time. It delves into why Nikki became an agent after the disappearance of her sister, and the case follows Garrett from the very first week of his job. I thought that it did a great of showing the frustration of a case like this, when all the pieces don't fall into place right away, and realistically showed the hard reality that some case just don't get solved, haunting the investigators and the many people who pour themselves into their jobs to protect others.

Jordan and Garrett reconnect, and rebuild their friendship throughout the case. But I felt like the long span of time that this book covers with the time jumps did hurt the relationship building aspect of the story as well as the pace, and instead was a more grim read than others in the series. It was a hard book to read due to the tough subject matter, full of gory details.

Overall, a tougher book to really get into because while I liked the realistic-ness of the long timeline, it did make the pace harder to latch onto, and make the relationship building harder to see. Not quite the normal romantic suspense read, but great for people who like more crime reads.

Murders in and around Nashville, TN, haunt both the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Teams from both agencies are brought together over a period of a decade to find the person who is kidnapping young women, taking Polaroid pictures, and burying them in shallow graves.

But as the case is worked on over the years, relationships are growing. There are the human relationships that are often a part of these thrillers and the relationships the protagonists have with God. I found this second set of relationships particularly interesting as they struggled with the problem of evil in a God created and God controlled world. A prolonged discussion in chapter 32 of the book helped this reader resolve some of the issues related to this topic.

Whether the reader is looking for the next romantic thriller, a Christian thriller, or a readable murder mystery designed for fans of Criminal Minds, Vanishing Point might provide a satisfying read.

Thoughts:

VANISHING POINT: A Nikki Boyd Novel by Lisa Harris threads mystery and danger into an investigation of a missing person case where the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation needs the FBI to hunt a serial abductor who murders. However, this brings together past, present, and future inside a crime, which grows cold, only to reach a boiling point that nobody will see coming!

FBI Special Agent Jordan Lambert comes home on business, but she is not ready to set eyes on what she lost at the cost of her career. Family events have gone on without her while her life’s focus is still on the Bureau. Along with stark reminders of her past are the regrets that will rip open those old wounds as she wonders about what might have been.

Garrett Addison steps into his new role at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, but he lands at a crime scene where death and the past come together inside a case that claims another victim.

The media is calling their perpetrator the Angel Abductor. This case spanning years leaves little evidence behind acting to damage the reputation of law enforcement as if they are bumbling it with people’s lives at stake. Pundits have theories. Is there a law enforcement connection?

A picture shows the terror of this victim. The body is posed, and the killer seems to taunt police. The young girl has a family praying for her return, but this return is not how they hoped.

This case is about to become a very personal one with Garrett.

The community is scared, and they wonder. Who will be next?

***This opinion is my own.***
