Virginia was part of a cult as a child that the leader decided to torch one night and leave everyone for dead. She just finds out her only link to that night has either been murdered or committed suicide, thinking the cult leader was still alive and after her. Virginia teams up with an investigative service also tied to that fiery night. The twists & turns that follow in this mix of thriller/ romance serve to uncover the truth.

Virginia and Cabot lived through a terrible ordeal when they were children. They meet again when Virginia wants to hire a PI to look into the death of a friend. It soon becomes much more than that with someone actively stalking them. Fantastic romantic suspense from one of my favorite authors - a must read!

This book drew me in from the start. The main characters shared history set up the expected romance that was well executed. There were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. Altogether, it was a tightly plotted novel, and I look forward to the next installment.

I read anything by Krentz. So I loved this book and the characters. I would not recommend it for Library Reads because it is a sequel to another book and I think that makes it difficult for someone to start this one and totally like it.

I dove into "Promise Not to Tell." I absolutely know without a doubt that I will get to know the characters in Jayne Ann Krentz's books. She makes the story come alive with her in-depth descriptions making it easy to immerse oneself in the plot. The twists and turns of this novel kept me actively engaged as the storyline emerged. Thanks again for a great read.

PROMISE NOT TO TELL starts out with suspense, a troubled artist on an isolated island. Was she murdered or driven to suicide? Virginia Troy, an Seattle art gallery owner, who shares a past with the artist, wants to know and hires a firm of private investigators who were also involved with the past, an involvement with a cult which ends horrifically. Virginia and the investigators follow leads but the sense of suspense starts to wear thin.

2nd in series of Cutler, Sutter, and Salinas - I read the first book--When All the Girls Have Gone and enjoyed it.

Virginia Troy loses a friend to suicide according to officials, she knows it is not true
so she hires a PI and unleashes a force of nature.
Together they search for answers.
As the case moves, more questions arise so the search lengthens.

Suspenseful read!

Our past haunts all of us in various ways. Cabot Sutter and Virginia Troy past has haunted them all their lives and its now setting fire to there future. Have survived a cult as children, they've meet again as adults and someone is hell bent of finishing what they started twenty something years ago. Virginia holds the key to secret from long ago and Cabot is part of that past and maybe her future. JAK has written a climatic romantic suspense that leaves you wanting more yet wraps up this chapter of her trilogy, I hope its a trilogy because we still have one brothers story left to tell and his maybe the explosive conclusion. Mrs. Krentz is a masterful story teller with characters that you can envision and enjoy will sinking you teeth into a juice thriller along the way.

This book is either a romance wrapped up in a mystery or a mystery within a romance. It's hard to decide which even though the formula seems to offer the same end result. This is the second in a series and it is pretty much exactly the same as the first, even down to the damaged yet strong female client who falls in love with the rugged and brave private investigator, the monumental yet nonchalant declaration of love and the hurried nuptials. The characters and situations are interchangeable and, while it makes for an entertaining read, the mind starts to wander once you can figure out what's coming next because you've read it before. The characters however are likable and while the "issues" are not very imaginative, the author does manage to make us care about them and their lives.

This book starts intense from the beginning. A woman has set fire to her home and flees a monster from the past fast on her heels. Her death sparks an investigation into the lead characters, Virginia and Cabot's own nightmare.

It was a good story. The characters were believable but I couldn't feel the connection. The story had a few twists and turns, some predictable and some not. The romance was a tad stiff. This will not keep me from reading more from the author.

As complicated and rather convoluted as its predecessor, but with a much more intriguing and faster-paced mystery.
The mystery and suspense were unfortunately counter-balanced by the rather bland and formulaic characters, and a romance that required quite a big suspension of disbelief.

This book drew me in from the first page on. When Cabot and Virginia slowly realize what they are dealing with and when things got really, really tight, I just couldn't stop reading. I flew through the pages and I just hoped that everything would turn out well and that maybe, maybe things would get better for Virginia and Cabot as well.
As survivors of a terrible fire that took their mothers' lives when they were kids, Virginia and Cabot still suffer from nightmares and sleeplessness among other things. When something happens that makes them think that the leader of the cult that they had been part of, the same man who was responsible for the fire, might still be alive and that Virginia might be in danger, they find that it is easier to face their demons - and their enemy - together. And maybe, if they survive, they will even get a chance at love...

I loved those wonderful, multi-layered characters and I was captivated by their intriguing and interesting story. It kept me on my toes and I may have needed a hanky once or twice - and I really can't wait to read the next book by Jayne Ann Krentz.
Even though I've read a couple of books by the author written under her pen name Amanda Quick, this is my first contemporary romance book by her but I can't wait to read other contemporary romance books by her as well.

When I was about a third of the way through this book, I realized I wasn't really interested in the story or the characters. So, rather than waste any more time on it, I skimmed the pages and ended the book.
Sorry Jayne Krentz. This book is not up to your usual standards. At least your new Amanda Quick series is good.

Fan of Krentz will not be disappointed in this new book. Her modern intrigue/romance style is what brings me back to her books again and again. This story has a bit of modern crime a bit old fashioned detective novel and a dry wit that keeps everything from getting to dark. A nice light read that makes for a great relaxing novel.

This was a great book! I loved how rich and detailed the backstory was - I cannot wait for the continuation of the story!

Krentz is considered one of the masters at balancing romance and suspense. She definitely has a formula down. This is yet another product of that formula. And while it's good, I definitely felt like I'd read it before.

I did like the cult background aspect of the plot, and I definitely didn't guess the twist at the climax (though I knew there'd be one). Both characters are well-drawn, but again, not really memorable. The romance was definitely more subplot in this story, as opposed to majorly pulled out. All in all, I enjoyed it but won't be reading it again.

Jayne Ann Krentz (no matter what name she is writing under) is the queen of romantic suspense. We always buy her for our library.

Virginia Troy and Cabot Sutton suffered through a horrible tragedy as a child, when fire raged through the cult their mothers belonged to. These two were part of a group of children who were locked in a barn during the fire, but were rescued. Now Virginia has received a picture that makes her doubt everything she believed about the night of the fire. As Virginia and Cabot try to unravel secrets and find out what is going on, they develop feelings for one another.

This was a good one! The balance of suspense and romance was great, and I liked how Virginia and Cabot were together. The storyline kept my attention and I enjoyed the way everything played out.
