Another excellent book about the Baxter family. A very timely story about religious freedom. I would definitely recommend this book.

The Baxter family is back in a stand alone story straight out of today's headlines. While the Baxters are featured in this book, the main storyline is about a high school principal and religious freedom. Karen Kingsbury has once again written another wonderful Christ based story in the ongoing Baxter family journeys.

Quite an interesting read full of current issues surrounding Christianity. The research for this book must have been quite extensive and time consuming. A little bit of romance and suspense thrown in with some gang violence issues and it’s affect on education. I loved the personal stories included but I felt like most of the book was technical in nature. There was a lot of talk about law and court room stuff. I felt like it was a bit of overkill and I wanted more of the character relationship. It was a little out of balance for my liking. It was almost like I had to question whether I was reading for pleasure or for information, whether it was a fiction or nonfiction book. It was super interesting all the current event type law stuff but just wasn’t what I was hoping for in a fiction book. Overall the storyline was pretty good. I enjoyed the book but had to give it 4 stars instead of 5 because of these things mentioned.

I love reading about the Baxter family and was so happy another book came out. Karen Kingsbury has such a way of writing that you feel like you personally know the characters. The great thing is that you if you didn't read the book before this one, or any of the Baxter family books, it's okay and you won't feel out of the loop on this one.
In this one, the principal of a high school (Wendell Quinn) wishes to make the school better, students to make something of their lives and to live to be a ripe age. There is a lot of gangs in the high school, suicides, murders and drugs. Wendell starts an after school Bible study after praying and researching the laws. He makes it clear this is this totally voluntary. His girlfriend, scared for her job, chooses to not stand by him. Eventually, a parent complains and Wendell finds himself in need of an attorney. Guess who he chooses? Luke Baxter!
We follow the rest of the Baxter family's lives, which I love.
This is one of those 'can't put down' books.
I was given a free ecopy of this book to read by the publisher, Howard Books and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

What a wonderfully relevant book. I have struggled with some of these same issues. Interestingly enough there are a group of students who meet in my classroom before school starts once a week. I don't participate in their Bible Study but I am int he room. Actually, I was told I couldn't participate but now I am wondering if there is any truth to that. We have become so afraid that we have bound our hands possibly more than they need to be.

Karen did a great job developing this book and bringing these characters to live. Real struggles and questions are brought to light.

I appreciated Wendall's heart and desire to see true life change take place in these kids. I also loved visiting with the Baxter's again, never get tired seeing what is going on in their lives.

A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley.com. All opinions are my own.

Kingsbury books are so real they feel like they could be happening in my hometown or to people I know. This really adds to the tension and drama. I could empathize with Alicia and her fear of what would happen if Wendell went ahead with his plan. The same challenges raised in the book are occurring with more frequency in our country. It made me appreciate Wendell and his willingness to proceed, believing that God, who called him to this, would be with him through it all.
This story also deals with hard issues of stalkers, racists, and workaholics in an authentic way. The blessing and strength that comes from a healthy family is portrayed in a winsome manner. The Baxter family has gone through a ton of hardships but they will always stand together and support each other.
I would highly recommend this book. It can easily be read as a stand-alone book. However, there are 24 other Baxter books that fill in a lot of their backstories. Thank you to Howard Books for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Karen Kingsbury is one of those authors that evokes all of the emotions. Whether she is writing a contemporary novel, a biblical one, or supernatural the reader is invested on all levels. She always brings the story around and the reader walks away feeling encouraged and inspired.

Christian Fiction is a genre that does not appeal to everyone. In my book, Karen Kingsbury is the Queen, but I know she’s not for everyone. I look for a lesson in Karen’s books and she always delivers.

In the latest novel from Kingsbury, Hamilton High Principal Wendell Quinn is tired of the violence, drug abuse, teen pregnancies, and low expectations at his Indianapolis school. He wants to see change, so he starts a voluntary after-school Bible Study and prayer program. He knows he is risking his job by leading the program, but the high turnout at every meeting encourages him. A year later things at the school are clearly better, the program doing well—until one parent calls the press.

In This Moment focuses on Wendell’s court case and fight for religious freedom with his lawyer … can you guess who? Why it’s Luke Baxter, of course. This is a Baxter novel after all 😊 There is no need to read the previous Baxter novels before reading this one. In This Moment begins with an introduction to the family. You’ll see brief updates about the family throughout, but it’s done well and readers who aren’t familiar won’t feel lost.

I found Wendell’s case interesting as it explored a subject matter I’ve never studied before. I found the parent’s reason for calling the police believable. However, I found the solutions to these matters to come too fast, to be anti-climactic. I wanted something else, but I’m not sure what.

What lesson did I find in the pages of In This Moment? If not me, then who? This is the question that Wendell asked himself often during this book. And it’s what I wonder now after finishing the book. If there’s something I’m being called to do. If not me, then who? The message for me is to listen, do what God asks of you no matter how scary.

Even though Wendell’s story might not be the best I’ve read, the message that sticks with me is what makes this book.

If you’ve read Karen’s Angels Walking series, see if you can spot the appearance by one of its angels 😊

I started reading Karen Kingsbury at a time when I was having a lot of anxiety. The writing style and characters in her books soothed me and made reading enjoyable, which many other books couldn't do at the time. Now that I've been better for quite a long time, I am still drawn to her books for the continuing stories of her characters.
This is a standalone book but written in her usual style. It flowed very well, and the characters were all very likable. However, as someone with a viewpoint that is a little left of center, the actual premise of the book was a concern for me.

I'm so excited about the new Baxter books Karen Kingsbury is writing. In This Moment is such a timely book even though it's fiction. I look at all our Freedoms being taken little by little and cringe. This story is about Wendell a High School Principal who has a school where the kids were failing in many ways, some dying, some to drugs and alcohol, teen pregnancies and bad grades. He decided he had to try something. He began a program called Raise the Bar, a voluntary Bible Study. Well you can imagine what happened. I could see this happening today. I actually remember in 1984-85 being in High School and my History teacher refusing to let me read my Bible when I was done with all my work. He would send me to the Principal's Office everyday as soon as I pulled it out. I refused to back down and he refused to let me stay in class.

This book is part of the Baxter Series of books but Karen has made it very easy to pick up and begin with the newest books. The Baxter Series is also going to be a TV Series.

I've read most of Karen Kingsburys' novels she is my pleasure readings . For some reason this novel is not keeping my attention. Yes they are all pretty much the same story with different characters. I won''t spoil it for her avid fans. But someone dies or goes through a tragedy, doesn't believe in God, the family or maybe only one of them is a perfect example of how God can live in your life and all will be good.. Even knowing how her books are, the protagonist is just not likable. I usually read a book in about 2-3 days depending how busy my life is. I've had this for about 2-3 weeks and am only half done. I will read the book all the way through but I'm just not sure when. I really do like Karen Kingsbury but for some reason not this particular book.

I have read a significant number of Christian fiction books, and I have read close to, if not all, of the books that Karen Kingsbury has written. This one touched me in a way that others have not - maybe because of the time in which we live where religious freedom is being questioned and taken away. This quote from the book really stopped me in my tracks and made me think: "Once people stop believing in their rights, those rights are a whole lot easier to take away." Do I live like I don't believe in my God-given rights in this country and if so, I am a part of the problem that is causing our religious freedom in this country to disappear. Through the example of Wendell and Luke in this book as well as Cami and Jordy, I realized that I need to be actively looking for opportunities to share Christ because it is my freedom and privilege to be able to do that in this country. The slight crossover between this series and her Angels Walking series was a nice addition. Over all, I would highly recommend this book. It can be read as a stand alone or as a part of the Baxter series. Karen, please keep writing Baxter books - they are like real people in my mind at this point!

I honestly loved this book.

"Those who stand for nothing will fall for everything."

I've fallen in love over the Baxter Family in the twenty-some books that I have read. This one was a great new edition addressing a controversial issue in today's society. How should one address God in public? Karen Kingsbury answers that question with a captivating story that fans are going to love.

I really liked this one and will be looking forward to her next book in the Baxter series.

I recommend this book for all readers

Kingsbury is a well known Christian author and writes touching stories about Christian values and beliefs and relates them to current toipcs or society challenges. I find the writing to get a bit over the top from a religious perspective, but this story flowed well and touched on the topic of bible study in a school setting.

In the day and age of fighting for rights, including those of the right to practice Christianity, Karen Kingsbury writes a powerful book as part of the Baxter Family series.

Just as things today are so tenuous regarding activities that “offend” people, this book surrounds that subject when a high school principal of an Indianapolis high school decides to try to do something to help the students of his school. This school has become known for gang violence, murders, and deplorable grades. He begins a voluntary after-school program of Bible study. After a year, the improvements to the school are phenomenal, and the program very well attended.

All is about to change when a parent decides to call the press and sue the principal, saying this is all illegal. Luke Baxter, of the Baxters, so well known to Karen Kingsbury readers, is asked to be the attorney to fight this case for the principal and Christian rights.

We see many issues that we hear about today, unexpected happenings occurring throughout the proceedings and many thought-provoking statements made.

This is a very quick read, but I didn’t find it to be an entertaining read as most of the books by the author have been, due to the reality and current events of the day at the time I read the book.

I would highly recommend this book to those who love Christian writing. This is Christian fiction, but so relevant to today.

In This Moment is part of the Baxter Family series. There are like 25 or 26 Baxter books before this but whose counting. You don't have to read all the previous books about the Baxter family to know what is going on. The author takes several pages in the beginning to give you a brief history of the Baxters and who is married to who. This book was not really about the Baxters although some of the Baxters were in it. The author's favorite Baxter Ashley was in it as she makes an appearance in all Baxter books but the main Baxter was Luke, the youngest of the five Baxter siblings. Luke is a lawyer who formerly was an entertainment lawyer. He is not a lawyer working for as a religious rights lawyer. He defends religious freedoms in schools and other public places. His fees are paid by donations people make to the organization where he is employed.

Enter Wendell Quinn, a high school principal who loves and is concerned about the students at his high school. Violence, failing grades and broken children prevail at his school. He is a godly man who is raising godly children alone. He wife had died a few years earlier. He has the full support of his family to start an after school Christian group for the kids in his school.

Be sure to have your hankerchiefs on hand. There are moments of heartache in this story that will bring tears in your eyes. There are moments of joy also such as a troubled girl coming to the faith. I loved seeing how she grew in her faith despite the turmoil she experienced in her home life. There is moments of danger in this book as one of the people principal Wendell is close to is being stalked.
Be on the lookout for a character from the Angels Walking series to make a cameo appearance.

I liked this book but the book would have been better without so much Baxters in it. I thought too many Baxters took away a little bit from this excellent story. It would have been enough with Luke Baxter in it. That is just my opinion. Some people just can't get enough of the Baxters. Also this book tended to get a little preachy if you know what I mean. I am not bothered by it since I am a devout Christian but some people who do not share my faith may be bothered by the frequency of it.

This book was an enjoyable read for me and I stayed up way too late to finish it. Thanks to Netgalley and Howard Books for providing me a digital copy of this book to read and review. In this Moment will be released on November 7, 2017.

Karen Kingsbury does it once again. Her books bring the reader right there with her characters. We care because she does.

This was such a sweet, powerful, and important story and I loved every second of it. It was well written, had a very important message, and the characters were so filled with faith and love.

I loved the message in this book. Now days, everybody fears offending someone so we don’t discuss God or Jesus in public. In this book, people actually thought that it was illegal to mention God in public. I fear that this is the way things will go if something doesn’t change soon. Every time we shrink back from talking about God and Jesus, some of our freedom is erased. This book showed just what can happen when we give up those rights.

This book was very well written. I loved the descriptions and I truly felt like I was there with Wendell and Luke through this entire thing. Some parts of this book were so powerful I got goose bumps even teared up a bit. The stories of the kids in the Raise the Bar club were so heartbreaking and inspiring that I couldn’t help but get emotional.

The characters were the type of people I wish I could be. I love the way the Baxter family relates to each other and how close knit they are. The way the adults sit around the table and discuss Jesus and religious freedom is something I would love to be able to do with my family.

Wendell was so strong and never wavered from what he knew was the right thing. Even when it seemed the cards were stacked against him, he knew God was with him and he never lost his positive attitude. The strength and courage it took for Wendell to put his faith in God above his job is something I long for. We all need the strength to stand up for God and our freedoms.

The most important thing I learned in this book is that if we don’t exercise our rights, no matter what they are, it will be far too easy for people to take them away. Never let fear stand in your way of doing what’s right. We are never alone in our battles, God is always with us.

This might be one of Kingsbury's best books yet! This book brings up a very controversial subject in America, the classy way. The characters are mesmerizing, there is so much suspense! I loved the ending. Like always, well-written!
