There is only one thing Brynn Williams has in common with Kat Vander and that is that Sergeant Vander sent Williams to prison.
Four years on and Brynn is released having served her time, she walks out looking for a fresh start and has every intension of staying out of trouble. Unfortunately her sister has other ideas and arrives in a stolen car and high as a kite.
Kat Vander and her partner are just about to run into trouble. Without help or support both look doomed, but help comes in the shape of the Williams sisters.
With the sisters hiding from the law can Sergeant Vander recover from her ordeal to help them out of theirs??
This is a great book. The police drama keeps you enthralled throughout but what I found captivating was the growing affection between the two main characters. Although they are both very different women, you find yourself holding your breath, hoping that they will find a way to be together.

I have read and enjoyed the author's previous books, however this was not her best work. There wasn't much build up to the romance, the leads hardly spent any time together so it' was difficult to see how they developed feelings for one another. While the leads had interesting backgrounds, these hadn't been fleshed out a lot.

I was unable to review this book because of a conflict in my schedule. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused the publisher or the author of the work. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review for you and I look forward to reviewing for you in the future.

I was excited to see that Ronica Black had written another book as I enjoyed reading her previous works. Although this book was good in its own right, Freedom to Love is not my favourite book, In Too Deep, Deeper and The Seeker being my top favourites.
Both characters are likeable and I liked that there was a bit of a mystery to Kat. The chemistry between Brynn and Kat was believable.
There was just something about this book that was missing for me as I found myself not as invested in the story as much as the other works I've previously mentioned.

It started out good but than it lacked in the backstory and character development. The intimate scenes were a too vulgar for my tastes, less descriptive sex, more romance and backstory

Just because your family name has a reputation with the police, it doesn't mean you should be tarred with the same brush. Bryan Willian's went to jail to save her younger sister from doing time and when she is released, she just wants to move on. Unfortunately, a car chase and the shooting of two police officers puts paid to that! Falling for the injured policewoman, who turns out to be the one who arrested Bryan originally, is not the best move she can make, but she can't fight her feelings. i enjoyed this novella and should Bryan and Kat have further, longer adventures, I for one would read them.

This book was 2.5 stars rounded up for me. I didn't much like either character, and I didn't feel much of a connection between the characters. Brynn was too nice, almost too perfect, and Kat for me didn't have much personality at all. I am not sure how either of them fell in love with the other, without really knowing the other. Secondary characters were not great either. Was good enough to finish but I won't be reading again. This is only my second book by Black, and I didn't dislike it enough to not try others.

As the title suggests, this is a romance. The book begins with Brynn Williams being released from prison. She has just completed a sentence for a crime she did not commit. Her sister, Bea, is waiting to pick her up from prison and from there the story begins.
Brynn is a very sweet person who feels responsible for the upbringing of both Bea and their brother. She tries to protect her siblings from the harsh realities of living in a town of judgmental residents. Whereas Brynn is kind, Bea is a drug addict with a shallow personality.
Sergeant Kat Vander is the arresting officer in the case which originally put Brynn in jail. Kat and Brynn are attracted to each other and eventually get into a relationship. Kat is an excellent police officer who is well respected and liked by the community.
The plot of this book had a lot of potential. However, I felt that it was not developed sufficiently and at times left me with unanswered questions. I have read all of Ms. Black’s books and found them to be excellent, but this one falls short from the quality of her other books. I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.
I was given this ARC in return for a fair and honest review.

Some parts of the book are interesting, the beginning specifically about somewhere along the way we jumped the shark and it just got ridiculous.

I absolutely loved this book. It was such a phenomenal story if love and loss and having to take care of people and not fully believing that you can be free of all of that.. I also get that the whole insta-love thing is necessary when you only have 200 pages of book, but Ms. Black did an incredibly job of writing characters you really were rooting for. I read this entire book in about 4 hours and I will at some point read it again and recommend it to all of my friends. It was a lovely story about redemption and letting go and everyone needs to be reminded that you can't save everybody and you shouldn't be afraid to be who you are.

Black I'm beginning to realise has a wide range of writing styles. Her last book I found somewhat dark and unnerving. However this book I liked a lot.
There are two main characters. Brynn who has just been released from prison after serving four years for something she didn't do. Kat who is a police officer who arrested Brynn and put her in prison. Two very different people from different sides of the tracks.
Brynn is the elder sister of Bea who is a drug addict and only thinks of herself and her brother Billy who has learning difficulties and follows whoever is strongest. But Brynn isn't like the rest of her family. She is trapped in a situation where she was born in to the family and not agree with their ways and methods. Being a William's means trouble. On her release Brynn and her sister get involved in an altercation where a car assaults another car firing bullets. They return fire and try and help. Kat and her partner are in the car badly injured and Brynn gets Kat to the hospital and reports the incident.
So here is where it gets complicated. Law and Williams are like chalk and cheese. Brynn's family doesn't know she is gay. Guess what? She falls in love with Kat. You didn't see that coming?
They run. They get caught. Brynn wakes up and decides to be free from her family.
That is the shortened version. But you get the idea. It is a nice story with a happy ending. I happen to like happy endings so I gave it four stars. It is a nice enjoyable read. Enjoy!

This is my first novel by Ronica and I liked it. It was fast paced and everything moved quickly. Not too much of a story here but it was a lot better than some of the other short stories I've read.

This book was good it's about two people that come from different sides and one is a cop and one is known foe her name but not her but her family..4 yrs ago the cop arrested Willis and the day she got out Brynn saved her and from then on they were always meant to be together.

The book was on the shorter side so it was a quick story to read. The characters were well developed and between the characters the chemistry was right. Brynn’s character development was written well – with all of her struggle with her family and coming out and being the only good and responsible one in her family. All of those struggles were well described and were believable. Kat’s character went through less of a development and struggles.
it is not a book with great depth but it is a fun and easy read.

Brynn is getting out of prison. Unfortunately, her sister is the one who picks her up. In a stolen car and high as a kite. The sisters' day gets even worse when they get caught up in a high-speed chase and then a shoot out. A shoot out where Brynn saves Kat and her partner's lives (they're police officers). But then she feels she has to run because of the stolen car and guns that her sister had in her possession.
When Kat (the female police officer Brynn saves) is sorta mobile she goes after Brynn to bring her in, and at great cost to herself and after that they slowly getting closer. But, Brynn has a lot on her plate, including a family that is very insular and against cops and a brother that needs her quite a lot.
At a lot of points in the story, it felt to me as if it was a sorta outline or half finished manuscript. I wanted to know so much more about so, so many parts of the story, both Brynn's and Kat's parts. And we never got that sort of more in depth story telling, it all seemed a little surface level.
Still, I did like the characters, both the ones that I was supposed to like and those I wasn't. They were cool to read about and that why I so desperately wanted to know more.
I got this galley through Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books.

I'm a really big fan of this author, so I was excited to see she had a new one so soon after her other most recent book. I wish this book had gone a bit longer to be honest. I was curious what Brynn was going to do for an actual job, and those little details that would have fleshed out this book. Those little in-depth details is mainly what I felt was lacking in making this a 5 star book.
I loved the sex scenes, which is one of Ronica Black's best writing qualities. The two main characters did seems to be in to each other rather quickly considering the whole arrested and put away four years earlier conflict. I think it would have helped to see that part as a flashback, just to really set up those two.
Still, this was a unique storyline compared to others I've read. I'd recommend others to read it.

Four years ago, Sergeant Kat Vander arrested Brynn Williams, and though everyone knew Brynn was just covering for her sister, Bea, Brynn took the wrap and went to prison. When she get out, Bea picks her up in a stolen car and off her face. The two get mixed up in a shootout, and Brynn saves Vander’s life. All Brynn wanted to do was get her life back on track and take care of her family, she never banked on falling in love with her arresting officer, and Vander certainly never meant to get involved with anyone in the Williams family.
I enjoyed this book. I think I read that it was adapted from a short story, and if that’s true, Black created a pretty well-rounded novel. I loved the tension between the leads, and Brynn is just about as loyal as you can get, going to prison for her little sister and then trying to kick her butt on the straight and narrow after she gets out. She might learn, however, that some people can’t be saved.
Truth be told, I’m a sucker for forbidden romances, stories where the characters who fall in love have absolutely no business being together but despite the odds want to make it work, so this one had me from the summary. It’s a pretty quick read and moves quickly. I’d recommend it for some light (and hot) reading.

A fast paced short read which could have benefited from a bit more backstory as the characters have great potential.
Tarred with the stigma of the Williams family name, Brynn finds herself in a challenging situation where she's almost damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.
Sergeant Kat Vander knows the Williams family and played a large part in sending Brynn to jail but there's a strong attraction between them that she can't seem to fight off.
If you're after a quick, past paced read, this might be your thing.
