Sweet, charming romance…
The sexy cover matched up with Chaska’s sexy presence and the story also revealed his intelligence, his drive and his love for family and the world around him. Sound too good to be true? Naomi sure did at first as she was not only physically rescued but bowled over by the kindness he and his fellow Scarlett dwellers showed her. I was simply charmed by the simplicity of it all considering the deep topics touched on.
Even though this was a very modern romance there was an old-fashioned feel to it that had me hooked right away. Don’t get me wrong. There was a lot to navigate here. Family, danger, old hurts that haunted Naomi… And how Naomi and Chaska met was a testament to courage they both had. What followed, well, it just got better and better…
I loved the main characters and all the supporting cast. Quirky but real and substantial, they brought the small town to life. While Naomi and Chaska’s journey was at the center of this story, there were so many layers it became so much more…
While this read great as a standalone I can’t wait to pick up more of this series!
Naomi was a fighter , she had a hard life and no one to turn to. Naomi made jewelry and supported herself. Naomi does have a lot of insecurities. Naomi was vacationing in Colorado and met up with some bad people. Then Chaska discovered Naomi and he rescued her. Winona took Naomi in while she recovered. Chaska is part of a volunteer research and rescue team. Chaska is a Lakota Indian. Chaska was also an aerospace engineer. Winona ran a wildlife sanctuary and has a wolf named Shota. Winona and Chaska are not close to their parents but are close to their grandfather and called him” Old Man”. Naomi felt like she didn’t belong anywhere.
I absolutely loved this book. I loved how Naomi grew in this book. I love Chaska and Naomi’s relationship grew instead of just jumping in. This was a sweet and easy read that held my attention all the way through. I loved how the author weaved the Native American heritage namely Lakota’s in this book. I did choke up at times while reading this. I love the I loved there was some mystery and suspense mixed in with romance and history. I really loved how gentle and understanding Chaska was with Naomi. Winona and Old Man definitely added to this book. I love the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend.
Pamela Clare strikes again and reminds me why I love her writing so much. When she began this new series about the sexy group of individuals dedicating their lives to rescuing those in need, while enjoying the rugged and adrenaline packed lifestyles of rock climbers, I was skeptical that she would make me love it. Honestly I have a crazy fear of heights and would never go anywhere near a rock climbing gym much less actually climbing those freaking deadly mountains, but she has made me a believer once again. I LOVE this series. This fourth installment also hit close to home because I have always wanted a chance to learn more about my native American heritage, but with such a physical and emotional distance for me, I just have to enjoy that adventure through stories and author’s like Pamela, so obviously devoted to authenticity and research, remind me why I fight so hard to make people understand the greatness of this genre. Chaska and Naomi meet under interesting circumstances, but the connection between them is instant and deep, leaving them both floundering a bit at the intensity. Soon though there is no denying that they are made for one another. I loved seeing Chaska fall in love with Naomi, sacrificing for her happiness, while always keeping in mind his duty to his team and his people. He is the perfect hero and I would love to have a chance to meet a man just like him… Hmmm maybe it’s time for a trip to Colorado, even though I am so not climbing anything… but I digress. Naomi was the perfect match for Chaska. While she has had a pretty shitty past, she maintains her fighting spirit, determined to make her own way in the world, but when she meets Chaska and his sister the draw is irresistible. Once he finds a way to not only steal her heart but discover the truth of her heritage and give her back her true family, I thought for sure she would destroy him, but the love she has is just too big to leave him wanting. Pamela as always finds a way to bring two people, that might never have found one another, together under amazing conditions, twining their pasts together and giving them a chance at a future that will give them true happiness and fulfillment. There is also the outstanding level of heat and passion between Chaska and Naomi that is a trademark of any Clare novel, but in my opinion this story went even higher with the connection between the H/h. I am dying for the next story in this amazing series and am definitely spreading the word that this series is one of the best romances out there and that if you’re not reading them then you’re not truly a Romance Junkie!
Tempting Fate
Colorado High Country #4
Pamela Clare
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A very warm and heartfelt romance based in a small Colorado town. Reminds me of Colorado Springs. A small town where everyone knows each other.
Naomi had a rough childhood where she was left in an alley as a newborn and then raised by really horrible people.
Fate brings her and Chaska together and they are just perfect for each other.
I'm really enjoying this series and can't wait for the next one.
Thanks NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Naomi and Chaska have a very unconventional start to a relationship. Naomi knows very little out her family heritage, and craves that knowledge. Chaskas’ heritage is known for generations, a constant in his life. Together they carry an intense attraction to each other, within days the couple have faced numerous battles, cultural and personal. Ms. Clare formulated the perfect couple to face lifes challenges and come out stronger and better than before.
Pamela Clares’ novels have never left me disappointed; her quality of work is astounding. Every character is full developed and adds depth to the novels. Ms. Clare provides little quirks to each character making them so realistic and believable. The secondary characters allow small glances back to previous couples or glances into an upcoming couple. She provides such strikingly real detail in each novel, details only someone who has lived part of the novel could provide. Tempting Fate has easily become my most desired Pamela Clare novel, it has left me wanting more and more from Scarlet Springs!
This book started right off with a heart pounding experience when 27 year old Naomi is camping by herself in the Colorado mountains and two escape convicts approach her campsite. The next day, Chaska and his sister, Winona are walking Shota, a wolf rescue on the trails when Shota suddenly takes off. When they catch up to Shota, he is nudging an unconscious Naomi in need of medical attention. Chaska, being part of the local Search and Rescue team puts a call out for the team.
Naomi was very lucky. She fought off her captors and escaped but not before she suffers being shot at and breaking her ankle. What the author unveils for us from here is a beautiful and heartwarming tale of a town that comes together to help a stranger heal physically and financially, all the while Chaska and Naomi grow closer together.
I really enjoyed the small town setting and these wonderful people who care more about others than most of us experience in real life. It's the small town filled with people that we all wish we could find for ourselves. It trully added more to this story.
Chaska is hands down one of the best Hero's I've read. Not only was his physical description drool worthy, but the way the author described him as a human being was so much more appealing to me. He was such a kind, giving man. He's a true Lakota warrior with the way he takes care of anyone who needs it. He was not a womanizer and showed such respect for woman. Even put into a difficult situation with another woman, he handles it in such a way that had me falling for him even more.
I was fascinated with all the Native American culture details the author put into this story. I would suggest reading her authors note at the end of the book. I felt this one in my heart. ARC provided by NetGalley.
Chaska Belcourt left the reservation he grew up on to become a rocket scientist and volunteer at the Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue Team in Scarlet Springs, Colorado. One day while he was out with his sister (Win) running her wolf (Shoka), they came across a woman who was unconscious and badly hurt.
Naomi Archer is vacationing in the Colorado mountains, when two men come into her campsite demanding she feed them. Once they pull a gun on her, Naomi realizes that she is about to be raped and possibly murdered ... she runs for her life. She ends up being shot in the shoulder and eventually falls down a ravine. That is where Chaska and Win find her. Win believes the spirits led Chaska to her and once she finds out that Naomi has no family to help her, Win insists she recuperate at their house. Then the sparks fly between Chaska and Naomi. Does Chaska find his soul mate? Will Naomi find her heritage through Chaska and Win? Does Naomi find the home she's always long for?
This is a sweet and steamy story that gives you an education about the Lakota nation and how a man should treat a woman.

This one was good, though not my favorite of Pamela Clare's by any means.
Naomi has an interesting back story; having escaped a cult and made her own way in the world, she is strong but lonely, with a vulnerable center that isn't hard to reach. This was actually my one annoyance with her; I wanted her to be a bit tougher and more abrasive, considering the amount of reasons she had not to trust people. But I do get that more than slightly needy female protagonists are Clare's thing. (I think she's done it better than this though.)
Chaska is pretty cool. A hero by day, who is his younger sister's main support system. *sigh* Gotta love a guy like that. There's the predictable amount of steam (one of Clare's strengths), and a really scary beginning chase between Naomi and some baddies had me on the edge of my seat. All in all a fun ride.
3.5 stars.

Tempting Fate is a wonderful addition to the Colorado High Country Series. I just cannot express how much I love this series! This book is every bit as good as the previous three. I enjoyed the story of Chaska and Naomi and loved their characters! The storyline was a really good one, and it kept me riveted. The Rocky Mountain setting in this series is very appealing, and I really enjoy the backdrop of the Search and Rescue Team. You can't go wrong with the books in this series!
Naomi and Chaska give the reader a tale to revel in. Ms. Clare's writing as always is superb and carries such detail as to make one fall in love with the depth of her characters. The past and our glimpse into their background only serves to make us more involved in their life. I love the quirks that Ms. Clare seems to employ to humanize her characters.
A quick fun read that had something for everyone. Action, romance, sex...I will definitely be reading more in this series.
Naomi Archer is vacationing in the Colorado mountains near Scarlett Springs when she is confronted by some very bad people. She is ultimately discovered and rescued by Chaska and Winona Belcourt who take her in while she recovers. Naomi gets to see the best of the community during her time with them and is exposed to the Lakota heritage, which may be her own.
I loved everything, and I mean everything, about this story. Naomi captured my heart and Chaska my mind, body and soul. Her story was heartbreaking and her initial encounter with Chaska truly felt destined. Their developing relationship was just wonderful as he also led her to the Native American culture she'd always wanted to embrace. You'll have to read the story to learn why as I don't want to ruin the experience. Chaska isn't perfect but he's pretty close, especially in his sensitivity to Naomi, other women and his search & rescue team. Yes, he's gorgeous, talented and sexy but it's his inner beauty that makes him special.
So often Native American history and heritage is wrapped inside an aura of mysticism and otherworldly impressions. Not so in this story where culture and practices are steeped in traditions and philosophies that are in tandem with the environment and history. It has such an air of authenticity that I knew the author had been exposed to the culture more than just through casual research, which was indeed the truth (see the author's notes at the end). It was quite the education, one that I won't forget.
This story is outstanding story and has a bit of mystery and suspense to go along with the romance and history. The strong sense of community was pervasive throughout the book, not only in Scarlet Springs but in the Lakota tribe, so much so that it was almost like they were separate characters. It is a powerful story on so many levels, one that will stay with me. I love this series but I especially loved this story.
Tempting Fate is another hit in the Colorado High Country series. This time it's Chaska and Naomi's turn to meet and fall in love. Their meeting was fortuitous, or was it really the Creator putting Naomi in Chaska's path, as he had told his sister, Winona when she was harassing him about finding someone to love and settle down with? "I'll wait till the right woman comes along. Creator can feel free to put her in my path anytime."
Chaska is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue team like Jesse Moretti (Falling Hard), so as he, Winona and Shota (their rescued wolf) work to save Naomi from the obviously traumatic physical state she's in when they come upon her, I knew from that moment that their story would be special, and it was. It's a beautiful story of two people meeting and changing each others' lives. With Chaska's help, Naomi not only comes to learn of her true heritage as Native, but also learns to love herself, accept that she's a sexual being, to accept herself. He helps her become stronger, to heal from the awful childhood she experienced, and to fall in love and let someone in. She's a true survivor and an amazing person.
But if Naomi is amazing, Chaska is even more amazing. He's so beautiful, inside and out. He's kind, compassionate, gentle, patient and so loving with Naomi that it's no wonder she fell head over heels for him. She couldn't have a better partner, someone anymore perfect and equal for her. I thank the Creator for putting her in his path, and I know Chaska did, too.
The Colorado High Country series is so beautiful, and Tempting Fate is yet another example of this. It was nice to see cameos by Jesse and Ellie and the entire secondary cast are excellent, well rounded, realistic people. Here's hoping there is more to come from Pamela Clare's Colorado High Country!
Love! Not only was this an amazing love story, but the insight into the Native American culture was informative, interesting and flowed wonderfully with the story.
I love the Rocky Mountain Rescue Team and Naomi is a great addition to the team. Chaska and his sister, Winnona, rescue Naomi after she had a nightmare experience in the mountains. Winnona is convinced they were led to Naomi and she is meant for Chaska. While he at first doesn't agree with each passing day and each new thing he learns about Naomi he begins the think that might be true. These two end up have great chemistry and passion which they can't deny.
Naomi has a terrible upbringing, but a clue from her past might be able to unlock her true identity. Chaska enlists help from his grandfather and soon to part of the story leads to a discovery that had me in tears of happiness, love and thankfulness.
This story was written beautifully with descriptions of the mountains and wildlife so real I felt I was there experiencing it as well. Naomi has a talent for jewelry making that was gorgeously described that it made me want the own a piece.
Pamela Clare done an amazing job giving us a beautiful love story while giving Naomi love of a community, family and culture. Amazing!
The story had something for everyone. Action, romance, sex, family, tradition and for me it also gave me an education. I learned a lot about the Lakota nation and their way of life. All of the elements were integrated seamlessly and turned this story into a book could not put down.
TEMPTING FATE is one of those books that's more than a romance. It's a dive into another world of unique, funny, and relatable characters and a story based in strength and hope. Chaska and Naomi each have their need for independence, but when their paths cross, seemingly by divine intervention, they fall together an undeniable passion. It's not fast, it's not easy, but it's perfectly sweet and sinful and oh so right. But it might be so right that neither can believe and trust in it. Even though when they're together around the house, out and about or with the Team the fit together in a way they can't turn away from. It's too much of a good thing, when they've never known something this good before. And that perfect fit leads Naomi to a truth she never expected and always craved, but it could be the very thing that steals her away from Chaska.
Chaska and Naomi together gave me all the warm and fuzzies. He's incredibly kind, sweet, and insanely sexy that will make you hot and bothered in all the right ways. Naomi, is that little bit of wildfire, and little bit of insecure that's in all of us. And her path to where the ending finds her, grabbed onto all of my emotions and tugged until I was rushing to finish this incredible story. I can't quite explain it, but TEMPTING FATE just sucked me in and left me needing more from this eclectic and lovable group of people. Chaska and Naomi really felt like an epic love to me, but what they found with each other, the acceptance and embrace of others they never knew they needed also touched something deep in my heart as well. A fantastic addition to the Colorado High Country series and I'll be desperately waiting for more from Ms. Clare!
Happy Reading!

I love reading books by Pamela Clare. Her books have so much detail that the picture forms in your mind effortlessly. She always show how she has researched her book and it comes through in her writing. You love her characters and love her writing style. You cannot go wrong with a Pamela Clare story. Naomi has had to overcome a cold and unloving childhood. A tragedy lands her in the hospital in a strange town, which turns out to be a miracle in disguise. She learns that people can be loving and warm without wanting anything in return. She meets the love of her life who stands with her through all her problems and shows her how easy it is to love her. I loved the Native American aspect as well as the bond of the community. You really just want to move into town. And there is Shota, who is awesome.

Tempting Fate is the fourth title in the Colorado High Country series, a contemporary romance series that features members of the Rocky Mountains Search and Rescue Team. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous title in this series Falling Hard, and could not wait to read Tempting Fate, and I was not disappointed. I found this title to be highly entertaining and engaging and I was captivated from the very first page.
Tempting Fate is Naomi and Chaska's story, and although it's a contemporary romance, it features and element of intrigue and suspense. The chemistry and connection between this pair is undeniable. Ms Clare has created a pair of characters that are well developed, complex, realistic, endearing and charismatic. The banter between this pair is honest and heartfelt, but also fun, flirty and at times humorous.
Chaska is a warrior through and through, he is incredibly proud, dedicated and respectful of his Native American heritage. I was captivated by this tall, dark, sexy warrior who is also incredibly kind, gentle, caring, intelligent, brave and protective.
I loved that despite her vulnerabilities Naomi is a survivor, and incredibly like-able with an inner strength to be admired, with such honesty, talent and very sweetness.
Chaska and Naomi's story is well paced and well written and told in a dual point of view. I loved the strong themes of family, friendship and community that flows throughout. I love a series with titles that are interconnected, with characters that appear in previous and subsequent titles. I loved that the characters that appeared in the previous title Falling Hard, appeared throughout Tempting Fate in cameo roles. I will be eagerly anticipating future titles in this series, and hope to see more of the members of the Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue find their happy ever after.

Excellent story with a slow burn building to a perfect heat.
This is a story with multiple peaks, not just one climax. Naomi is assaulted while on a solo camping trip. Chaska is one of her rescue team. From there, their relationship develops and deepens.
This is a great read. Five stars.
