Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
This was a fun time! After meeting Lucas briefly in Max's book, I was looking forward to jumping into his story. While the surprise pregnancy trope isn't my favorite, I enjoyed how Bennett put this story together and the emotions she was able to bring in. I also appreciated how this story interconnected with Jules and Max and though I got frustrated at times, I overall enjoyed this one a bunch. And I can't wait to see what happens with the next story.
Sawyer Bennett does not disappoint yet again. The Cold Fury Series is one of my favorite and dear to my heart. I have been following since Alex erupted on the scene surrendering his heart to Sutton. Lucas is now a member of our beloved Carolina team, brother of Max. He is single, sowing every oat he has, and loving life.
Stephanie was a little cold, her childhood creating a wall 7 foot high around her. She wants casual, she needs casual, because feelings are hard. She finds that out with Lucas. She is taught very quickly that he gets what he wants, that he stops at nothing until it is his.
These two burned the pages, hot is not even a good description of the chemistry. These two really know how to get each other going and enjoy every minute of it. I loved that we had a little of the other Cold Fury teammates and wives. Sawyer as always keeps the story flowing and next thing you are done and waiting for the next.
Lucas is the 8th book in Cold Fury Hockey series. Another great entry into the professional world of hockey.
Lucas is enjoying the life of a single guy in the world of professional sports where women and money are aplenty.
Stephanie is an independent woman enjoying her single/professional life. The two of them meet and have one night of fun that leads to an unplanned pregnancy.
Watching these two navitagate how to keep their independence but also be committed to each other is entertaining. Stephanie doesn't want to rely on anyone because of the way she was raised. She came from a wealthy family who didn't make time for their child. She learned to only depend on herself. Meanwhile, Lucas is trying NOT to suffocate her as she figures out her way in her career and personal life.
A great thing about this series is the reader gets to hear about the other players and their love interest. It's fun to see what they are up to.
Sports lovers will enjoy this series of hot guys on the ice.
LUCAS - SAWYER BENNETT
#8 in the Cold Fury Hockey sports romance series
A LITTLE DIFFERENT - 4 stars
Plot - 4 stars - After a one-night stand and a broken condom, Lucas and Stephanie discover they are going to be parents. Since Lucas is a solid family guy, he steps up and is willing to co-parent. Stephanie, on the other hand, is from a broken family and is convinced she can go it alone.
Writing - 4 stars - It's easy to become bored with a long-continuing series as a writer, I would think, but it doesn't appear that it has happened here. Each story is fresh and interesting, and the characters simply build on each other and work together to keep the momentum going. It was easy to jump right into this book and enjoy another new hockey romance.
Characters - 4 stars - Lucas is the younger brother of Max (from a previous book), although he's a little wilder and less romantic. However, he is definitely solid and family-oriented, and I liked his sense of responsibility. Plus he's hot and talented, of course! Stephanie is a little harder to like, but that's intentional, I suppose. She's closed off and painfully independent, because of her upbringing (or lack thereof), so she's totally out of her comfort zone when dealing with Lucas's caring and the overwhelming assistance of his family.
Title - 4 stars - Nothing too creative, but it follows with all the previous books in this series and tells us who's next in line for a romance.
Cover - 4.5 stars - This is definitely a gorgeous guy, with a sense of French Canadian about him, looking like an intense but warm hockey player, and he's exactly as I pictured him in my head.
Overall - 4 stars - Another winner in this wonderful series. Lucas is one of my favorites so far. He's hot and wild, but as soon as he finds out the situation with Stephanie, he doesn't hesitate but immediately steps up to take responsibility. And he doesn't give up, instead learning about Stephanie as much as he can and trying to work around her insecurities while building her confidence. But there's only so far a guy can go, and she pushes back hard. I liked her excitement about her non-profit, and the fear and worry about a pregnancy made a lot of sense. It was sad to see her back off from obvious assistance, but I could understand it since the exuberant Fornier family even intimidated me, and I've had a normal upbringing. I was definitely rooting for Lucas and Stephanie to make a success of their relationship, and I was with them all the way through the pain to get to the other side. I can't wait for Van and Simone's story next.
I’m going to let you’ll in on a secret, I’m a huge believer in fate and in Lucas by Sawyer Bennett the hero and heroine get a big, heaping dose of it following an explosive one night stand. Two people from very different upbringings, but both committed to NOT being committed, find their lives turned upside down when their night of passion leaves them expecting the unexpected. Complicated and contentious but also sweet and sexy, Lucas was a bit of a disappointment in what has been a stellar series.
Life couldn’t be better for Lucas Fournier; traded to the Carolina Cold Fury gives him the opportunity to play on the same team as his brother, their team is headed towards the playoffs, he never lacks for female companionship, and being near his brother and his soon to be sister in law and their three kids has him feeling settled and happy. Meeting Stephanie Frazier at a museum fundraiser seems like the answer to get him out of the benefit and in to doing something a lot more fun.
Interim curator Stephanie Frazier is happy to help out with the museum fundraiser and equally happy to meet Cold Fury team member Lucas Fournier, but one night with him changes her life in more ways than one. Neglected since birth Stephanie is caught up in a wave of self doubt and scared out of her mind and the more time she spends with Luc, the harder she fights to retain her solitary life.
While both Luc and Stephanie were scared and shocked finding out they had a baby on the way, it didn’t take long for Luc to accept and become excited at the prospect of being a dad, and Stephanie was fully on board with having a baby and a bit shocked Luc planned to not only see her through the pregnancy but his plan to co-parent their child. Being that Luc is Max’s brother, it was no surprise that he soon began to see the possibility of more with Stephanie, but he also understood she was not ready to hear it. I’ll be honest Stephanie was a tough character for me to like, I felt angry for the way she was brought up and the absolute disregard of her parents, and while I could understand it was hard for her to trust, to let people in and to believe she could be loved, I was also screaming at her to find a good therapist and figure it out if not for her own sake for that of her unborn child because I’m telling you she frustrated me to no end multiple times in this book which is why I could also understand Luc’s frustration when he flew off the handle. At times I felt this book was on a loop and the same issues between them kept going around and around and it got old. I loved the character of Lucas and the secondary characters, but Stephanie’s self loathing and harshness just got old. She was built up as a strong character, yet she didn’t seek help with her issues and given everything going on in her life you would think she was smart enough to realize she needed to, she wouldn’t talk to people who were so willing to listen and help her, and she refused financial help from someone who could well afford it and who wanted to do his part to provide for his child. So much of this book was about their sexual connection which is all fine and good, but I wanted to see them TRULY connect on an emotional level and it just wasn’t there.
While there were parts of Lucas I really enjoyed many other parts just fell flat leaving me disappointed as I had high hopes for this book.
This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine, Lucas and Stephanie. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.
Lucas Fournier is Max's little brother and finally they're playing on the same team. For Lucas he loves the single life. He has no reason for being tied down. He's happy for Max but he doesn't think that's for him right now in his life.
Stephanie Frazier is a strong, independent woman, who knows what she wants. She's fun loving and easy going and the last thing she wants is a relationship. She's all for fun loving and no commitments. So, when she meets Lucas she's all over that one night stand. And this one night stand turns into so much more.
We quickly realize that there is a reason for Stephanie's easiness with no relationships and its because she's got a ton of baggage.
" . . . But you stand to lose him if you can't take a little bit of a risk with your heart."
Luc may have been surprised with the outcome with their one night but he's a loyal man with a big heart and will always do the right thing.
Stephanie may be hesitant with commitment but she's okay with friends with benefits. Luc's on board with this plan but hopes for more.
"Stephanie, just because I think you have the potential to hurt my son doesn't mean I don't like you. And just because you have the potential to hurt my son doesn't mean you're not good for him."
Stephanie had a hard road learning to love herself and finding herself worthy of love.
"I feel sorry for you, Steph. And I feel sorry for our kid. I sure hope to shit you learn how to really love before that baby comes along, or you're going to fuck its life the way your parents fucked up yours."
Oh Boy! Poor Steph, this was not an easy journey but so worth it in the end. I normally don't like whiny heroines and Stephanie wasn't whiny per se but her baggage was heavy and at times tiresome for her stubbornness on not moving forward. Unfortunately Steph's baggage was a large part of the story and I wanted more than just this but in the end I did quite like story and I adore all the boys of the Cold Fury.
Lucas Fournier is a hockey player who has no plans to settle down, like the rest of the members of his hockey team. When he sees Stephanie Frazier he is instantly attracted to her and although they have one mind blowing night together they both walk away. Four weeks later Stephanie finds Lucas to announce their one night left her pregnant. Lucas wants to be involved and as the two begin to navigate the waters for her pregnancy, they also flirt a lot and come up with another agreement. However, Stephanie has some huge walls around her and as Lucas gets closer then anyone before she isn't sure she can learn to trust someone other then herself.
Great book, I thought the chemistry was fantastic between this couple. This series always has a terrific story and this is one of my favorites.
Lucas is the younger brother to Max, and he is just as loveable as Max if not more. I loved everything about Lucas and Stephanie's story. Their one-night stand that turned into a life long commitment. They both come from completely different backgrounds. Lucas is from such a loving family, one that will make you wish you were apart of, while Stephanie is from a wealthy family who was told she was an accident and grow up in a loveless household. Finding out she was pregnant from her one-night stand changes everything but one thing it doesn’t change is her having her little baby. Lucas is surprisingly on board and their attraction grows from there and they get their happily ever after.
DNF - this series has sputtered out for me. The originals were amazing, but these last few have lost their originality.
I loved this book and didn’t expect to cry so much. My heart really hurt for Stephanie’s ( Steph) childhood and her relationship with her parent’s. She really fights her feelings for Lucas., only wants to hookup. He can’t help falling for her, but when he messes, I was really heartbroken. Can they resolve their issues? I highly recommend this book.
When Lucas Fournier gets traded to the Carolina Cold Fury, his only focus is on playing hockey alongside his big brother Max and getting his shot at the Stanley Cup. Women are great for fun between the sheets, but Luc is in no way interested in settling down. At a champagne-fueled gala, Luc meets Museum curator Stephanie Frazier and they share an explosive, passion-filled night. One that results in an unplanned pregnancy. As Luc is not one to skirt from his responsibilities, he is more than prepared to share this adventure with Stephy. With plans made, they embark on a friends with benefits relationship, one that soon changes to more, but while Luc always knew one day he would settle down and have a family, Stephanie had enough hang ups from her upbringing to think that would never be her... figuring things out won’t be easy, and as the clock ticks down to the delivery date, Lucas and Stephanie will have their hands full while sorting out the rest of their lives. A sexy, charming, and swoon-worthy romance by Sawyer Bennett.
Lucas and Stephanie have a one night stand that is off the chain hot that results in a lifetime connection in nine months. Steffie and Luc have to find a way to discover who they are as their background is complete opposites. Luc has to struggle to break down all the walls that Stef has created over her lifetime. They are two very strong willed people who need to learn to trust in one another.
Bonus getting to catch up on all the cold fury players we have come to love over the course of the series.
It was great to see Max and Jules back for this story and the introduction of their sister, Simone, and teammate, Van.
I have read and LOVED every book in the Cold Fury series. I seriously jump for joy when another one finds it way to my kindle. I love sports romance and Sawyer Bennett has nailed the hockey genre in such a way that I am a forever fan. This one was awesome. The quiet, smart, inhibited girl...the strong, broody, jock but together...together they make romance magic. I love this one...and I can't wait for more.
I love this series. I was very excited to read Lucas’s story and it was worth waiting for. Every book in this series has been so wonderful. I can’t wait to read the next one.
Sawyer Bennett delivers as usual. She keeps bringing these awesome hockey stories to life that are both sexy and funny and I highly enjoy them. The story was interesting and kept me intrigued the entire time and it was a quick read. This is an author I highly enjoy and I’m looking forward to whatever comes next.
I think there comes a time when a series needs to end, or at least, for me anyway. I enjoy Sawyer's books, but, again, I feel it is just rinse and repeat with character names changing but everything else just ringing so true and similar to previous books in the series. I feel the series started out strong and is just slowly dying off.
I love the Coldy Fury series! Every player/character is alpha, but each story is unique. Lucas' story is hot hot hot! From the beginning to the very end they burn up each page. Annnnd I loved being able to see Max some more as well. I just love that family.
5 Stars
Lucas by Sawyer Bennett is book number eight in the Cold Fury Hockey series and was so so good! It can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the first seven books as well. These boys know how to win your heart and Lucas was no different. This book was steamy and charming and if you loved Max's story you are definitely going to love Luc!
Lucas Fournier just joined his brother Max on the ice with the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team. He is so happy to be wth his brother and is looking forward to winning the Stanley cup. Lucas enjoys all the perks of being on the team especially the women. He is not looking for marriage or even a relationship. When he meets Stephanie and sparks start flying he figures one night will be enough to satisfy. But fate has other plans...
Stephanie Frazier hasn't had an easy upbringing. With parents who were more interested in themselves, Stephanie has been on her own for awhile. No real friendships or relationships and she likes it that way. But when she meets Luc she was not expecting her life to change completely...
I LOVED this story!!! From the storyline to the characters, this series continues to blow me away. I adored Luc and Stephy and their chemistry was HOT!! I am so looking forward to book 9!
