Blakemore writes such good, "quiet" books and I love to see how well they do at my library.
Megan Frazer Blakemore's The Daybreak Bond (The Firefly Code #2) is a page-turning middle grade, sci-fi, dystopian TREAT!
I am a huge fan of sci-fi and dystopian novels and have read many YA offerings so I was thrilled to find one that my middle grade students can enjoy. No "inappropriate" or "suggestive" scenes. Themes of prejudice, friendship, and finding oneself round out this sequel to The Firefly Code. Can't wait to read the next one! Wait, . . . Megan Frazer Blakemore, please tell me there's a next one!!!
Favorite new character: Tommy. Just hilarious!
Thank you, Netgalley and Bloomsbury, for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review!
It was great catching up with Mori and her friends as they continue their adventure. The book really leaves me with an uncertain eerie feeling about their world and what had become of it.
I love the books by Megan Frazer Blakemore (and love that she is from Maine). This sequel to The Firefly Code will be a hit.
I didn't realize that this book was a sequel to another one - with that being said I really was quite lost as the majority seemed to be answering questions and a continuation of the characters from the first book.
That really is my fault, so I don't intend to decrease my rating - I'd much rather rate the writing itself.
With that being said, I love the style of writing. I love the characters. This book really made me want to purchase the first one and read them in the correct order so I can have a better idea of the story that this one follows. I can see this being something my 6-year-old would enjoy. Once I read the first one, I will be back to give better thoughts.
I am sorry but I didn't read this because I realized it is a sequel. But, I enjoy this author and will get the book into the hands of students.
Unfortunately, I was not able to finish this book. This is apparently a sequel and I was not aware of that before I requested it. There seems to be information in the first book that I would need in order to enjoy this book.
Mori and her friends have left Old Harmonie, the utopian community where they live, to keep their friend Ilana, who is more machine than human, safe. Never having left Old Harmonie, the world outside the fence is not like anything the friends could have imagined and there are challenges to their mission that they did not expect. The friends' adventure in a world new to them was interesting, but the bond between them and their loyalty to each other also drew me into the story. In the utopian world of Old Harmonie, traits of humans can be technologically altered so each person can meet their full potential. Mori questions this practice, as will readers. This sequel to The Firefly Code is as engaging as the first. Even if you are not a utopian fiction fan, you just may be after reading Blakemore's books.
The Firefly Five continue their journey to save their friend Ilana in this sequel to the Firefly Code. Their quest brings them outside of the comfort of their isolated, idealistic town into the unfamiliar outside world that is nothing like the enclosed, safe community that they have grown up in. After being forced to rely on the help of "outsiders", the group faces uncertainty as they seek out Dr. Vardon, the only person who may be able to help them save their friend.
This suspenseful science fiction weaves together adventure, mystery and friendship into an exciting tale!
