Not much new and exciting, plot-wise. Not the worst book I have ever read, but not the best either. Fun and quick read.

Break of Day is a fun, sexy, sassy enemies-to-lovers romance. Carla has been dumped by her fiancé and needs to get away, so she heads off to her aunt's house in Cuba for some R&R. But, when she runs into her aunt's boarder, Jonah, there's an instant feeling of dislike (and attraction) between the two. Jonah is a giant, but sensitive (normally) guy who's trying to decompress in Cuba after a harrowing experience in Syria while he was on a job. He's a photojournalist and is used to sketchy places, but his last trip was particularly hard on him. When he meets his landlord's niece, he's attracted and repelled by her all at the same time. She comes across as a spoiled princess who plans on turning her aunt's home into something her aunt doesn't want, and Jonah isn't about to let her.

But, when the two are stuck in the house during a storm, the attraction between them comes to a head and they're unable to keep their hands off each other and their clothes on. But, what was just supposed to be a fun tryst with an expiration date inevitably turns to more when a certain test is positive. As I read their struggle to stay together and deal with their situation, I was really engaged and entertained. Not only is their chemistry off the charts hot, but the push and pull, love/hate thing really worked for them. They both had issues that worked against them - Jonah is all too aware of his large size (thanks to his past), but he is quite sensitive about it and is more than gentle when necessary with Carla. Carla is dealing with the youngest child syndrome, always feeling the pressure of never quite living up to the high bar her family has set for her. Realistic struggles like Jonah and Carla's help round out what could have been simply a hot story of opposites and enemies attracting.

If enemies-to-lovers romances are your thing, put Break of Day on your TBR list.

This is romantic, sweet and amusing. Jonah is a loner because of an incident that happened in college that devastated him. He's cold and suspicious but also protective, hesitant and insecure. Carla is disheartened with life, after being dumped by her fiancé, and being a disappointment to her parents. When they meet, Jonah is a super jerk to her. She is insanely attracted to him. They have a quick one night stand, that neither of them really wants it to just be a one night stand, but they're just too insecure and shy to take a chance. It turns out that Jonah is sweet, loving and charming softie inside and Carla is strong, stubborn and bold. The storyline is captivating, romantic and sweet. It was so good I couldn't put it down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Break of Day is a steamy hot romance with a decidedly Caribbean flair. Miami socialite Carla's family send her to Havana to visit her great aunt Lola and mend her broken heart. She is greeted, at the door by her aunt's boarder, the hot but surly Jonah. The chemistry between them is as hot as Cuba in hurricane season and just as unsettled. Even with their attraction to each other, they likely have never been more than housemates had fate not stepped in by throwing a real hurricane at the island, but that storm changes everything.
Christopher has created characters in Jonah and the extended Hernandez family who are passionate, volatile and strong headed, but it's hard not to fall in love with them as they muddle their way through life, love and family. Each of them carries past baggage that threatens their future happiness and it often seems that a fairy tale ending is out of their reach. Free-spirited Aunt Lola will do everything in her power to make sure there's a happily ever after but it isn't until the final pages that we finally know for certain how everything will end up.
The story stands well on it's own. It's the first of the 3 South Beach stories I've read but I never felt that I was on the outside looking in at the family.
If you like romances with lots of spice and passion, this one is for you.

I have been looking forward to Carla Hernandez's story since I started the One Night in South Beach series - and I was not disappointed! Jonah Kane is the perfect hero for this story. I enjoyed the instant physical attraction they had right from the start. Finding out if they actually even like each other definitely made a fun story!

I thought the steamy times from the start was extremely hot - and made for some great reading! When things got serious, I liked that neither character really backed off of their feelings. Even when Carla said some stupid things to get her family to back off. (By the way, Father Hernandez is still an ass. Just saying!)

Great story, great chemistry and a wonderful read!

After being dumped by her fiance, a stodgy accountant who accused her of not being "not exciting,” Carla Hernandez needed to get away. Her great aunt’s house in Havana, Cuba was the obvious destination. Once there, Carla would be able to sort herself out and help out Tia Lola, a woman who’s always understood Carla even when the rest of her family didn’t.

Carla didn’t count on big, burly Jonah Kane’s presence. The heat level between Carla and her ex-fiance was negligible at best and Carla doesn’t expect to be quite so affected by Jonah. Too bad Jonah thinks that Carla’s nothing more than a spoiled little princess...

I first heard about Break of Day upon learning that I’d somehow subscribed to Andie J. Christopher’s mailing list. This isn’t particularly unusual for me. In any given day, I probably get twenty to thirty emails from various authors, some that I know, some that I don’t. I always read them, though, and this one from Andie included the first chapter of this book. I read it as I was getting ready for work, and I was hooked. I was still thinking about tiny spitfire Carla and Jonah, the gruff photojournalist who towered over her when I got home from work and logged onto Netgalley. The book was hours away from being archived, but I requested it anyway. Miraculously, I got an email the next morning that I’d been approved.

Break of Day is exactly what I expected from that preview. It’s hot. It’s sexy. It’s fast-paced. I loved both characters just as much as I thought I would. There’s some angst here, but nothing too crazy. I never wanted to rip my hair out, which is a definite plus for me. I was a little apprehensive about the accidental baby aspect of the book (not a spoiler -- it’s in the blurb!) but I think that it was handled really well.

Break of Day is the third book in Andie J. Christopher’s One Night in South Beach series. I haven’t read the first two, and it’s not necessary to understand the plot or the characters, but I definitely plan on going back and seeing what I missed.

Carla was a socialite and her fiance just broke their engagement and called off the wedding.Carla was the baby of the family and no one liked her fiance. Carla had tried to make her fiance happy and had lost herself and she also had to figure out why she was always messing up her life. Carla always felt like she had disappointed her parents. Carla escaped from he life in Miami and her break up Carla needed time to destress and some peace and went to her Aunt Lola’s in Havana, Cuba. Once there she also had some ideas to fix her aunts grand old home up so they could rent out rooms for money. Then Carla meets her Aunt's favorite border Jonah Kane who rents a room to work on his book who Carla had an instant dislike too yet was somehow attracted to Jonah. Jonah is a famous photojournalist and and was having some R &R after a scary trip to Syria for a jo9b. Jonah loves stayinh at Lo0la’s and she had adopted him as her family and Jonah in turn was very protective of Lola and felt responsible for her. Her sees Carla as a spoiled rotten princess so he didn’t really like her at first but to was attracted to her. Johan was also worried that Carla had ulterior motives for Lola and her home. Carla and Jonah just seem to rub each other the wrong way. While trying to fight their attraction to each other. Carla and Jonah both had a lot of issues. Jonah rescues Carla after a panic attack and then they are together during the storm and give in to their desires. It was to only be the one night. Then Carla and Jonah plan not to see each other again. After Carl leaves Cuba and goes back to the states she finds out she is pregnant and decides to keep the baby.
I liked this book a lot and I liked the plot a lot. This dragged some at times but got through it. This is a short easy enjoyable read. I loved Carla’s Aunt Lola what a woman. I loved how Jonah was protective of Lola but also how he was gentle with Carla so he wouldn’t hurt her as he was a big man. I liked Jonah’s friend Charlie also. I really liked how it showed Carla and Jonah overcome obstacles to try to make it work for them. I loved seeing Carla and Jonah’s relationship unfold. I loved Carla’s crazy family and they were crazy. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

2.5 stars

Well, this book is a let-down. I requested the ARC because it had a surprise-baby plot, and I had a vision of how the story was supposed to go, and I was ready for all the angst…and then I got a different story, LOL. The surprise baby felt more of an afterthought to me (it started at 70%) I even wondered why it was even included.

Now, the different plot would have been fine but unfortunately, I couldn’t connect with the characters at all. Carla and Jonah both annoyed me. It was promising when the story opened with them meeting and then hating each other on sight; I was ready for the hate-to-love trope, but alas that too fell flat in this book. The dialogue at times felt to me like it’s trying too hard to be witty and funny. Also I found myself side-eyeing some of the stuff Carla said, especially the bit about priests and Jonah having sex with some guy.

Plus points: Carla’s relationship with her sister and sister-in-law, Carla’s mom (I love her; she should have more screen time), and the adorable epilogue.

Overall, I’m sad this book didn’t work out for me, but I’m game if Ms. Christopher wants to write Charlie’s book. Also I’m 8/10 going to check out Javier’s book.

Coming off a bad breakup, Carla heads to Cuba to take refuge with her great aunt. She meets her aunt's boarder, Jonah, a travel writer. Sparks fly as their initial distrust and dislike turns into some serious chemistry. Overall a good story.

Carla has recently broken up with her fiancée and she needs some time to heal away from the family that never liked him anyway. She heads to Cuba to see her Aunt Lola but she was not expecting the sexy giant that opened the door.

Jonah is a photojournalist who is boarding at Lola’s home while he destresses from his last assignment. The last thing he needs is the spitfire invading his space when he can tell right away she will be high maintenance.

They are both attracted to each other but express those feelings with bickering and irritating each other until fate steps in and they forced together due to the weather and all bets are off. They have no plans to see each other again however when Jonah leaves her with more than a memory she invites him to her sister’s wedding. Once he finds out the truth will this finally allow them to acknowledge their feelings for each other and for a man with no family will he be able to handle the chaos of hers?

I liked both characters as Carla was feisty while Jonah was protective and I enjoyed the chemistry and banter between them. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Carla is sent away to Cuba to spend time with her wonderfully insightful relative, Lola. She meets Jonah, the sparks fly, and put all their efforts in to verbally sparring. The beginning is them arguing to try to mask their attraction and her being sad over a break up with her fiance. It was slow going but you got to see their relationship build. The second half was great with her family and Jonah's growth. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

If you want a book with a lot of sex scenes then Break of Day by Andie Christopher, part of her One Night in South Beach series, could be your book. Carla is sent to Cuba for a visit with her great aunt Lola, hoping it will help her with getting over her broken engagement. Lola is a character; over seventy, renting out her home, taking care of others and quite sexually active. Currently Jonah is staying at Lola’s casa and misreads Carla from the moment he meets her at the door. These two are like oil and water until Lola leaves them alone while a storm hits the island. While the storm is raining destruction these two spend all of their time bonking each other and realize neither person is who the other thought. A broken condom leads to an unexpected pregnancy and two people caught up in their insecurities and lack of confidence to just get over themselves and believe in treating the other with the true feelings they have.

I enjoyed reading this book but struggled with all of the swearing, especially in scenes where it wasn’t needed. I’m not a prude and I don’t object to swearing, but a lot of the f-words distracted me from the story instead of adding to the scene. Despite this, I still recommend this book to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

When Carla has to get away she goes to Havana to stay with her Aunt. She is not expecting the hot brooding male to be visiting at the same time. The story turns hot fast and the outcome is what I would expect.
I was hoping for more excitement in this book ,but it was just another book I felt like I read before.

Once I got started with this one I could not put it down. Carla has escaped to Cuba to get over her broken engagement and hide out at her aunt's place. She runs into Jonah, one of the boarders, who is a famous photojournalist who just needs some peace and quiet. That is so not Carla. These two do not get off to the best start since they out not trusting each other and that leads to all sorts of combustion and where there is smoke the chemistry surely leads to more and there is so much more. The chemistry is off the charts and Carla ends up going home with the ultimate extra...

This was quite the page turner and I look forward to more from this author.

This was a good quick read. I have read a few books by Andie J Christopher and this is the series is good. This was a quick moving and keeps you interested in the storyline and you are rooting for Carla and Jonah. I loved Lola and Carla's family in this book. I highly recommend this read.

break of day opens when carla hernández meets jonah kane at her aunt's house in cuba. they don't make a great first impression. well, they both recognize that there is some crazy sexual attraction, but they also think the worst of each other. it's mostly to protect themselves.

they've both been hurt before. carla's fiancé spent their engagement making her feeling less than, and the more she tried to please him, the more she lost her sense of self. so she's in cuba to figure things out. jonah is in cuba on assignment. he's seen things, lived through things that weigh on his soul.and meeting carla is like an unexpected balm to his soul. he's not quite sure what to do about her.

and their story is filled with so much angst and emotion. i loved it. jonah and carla are made for each other. how they make each other feel is exactly what i'm looking for in my romances. i'm not sure how to describe it, but it's the kind of love that makes your heart feel full. we'd met carla before in the previous books in the one night in south beach series, and i wasn't sure how i'd feel about her as a heroine, but she really redeems herself throughout the novel.

and she's really met her match in jonah. he's the strong silent type. big where carla is small. her complete opposite in so many ways. but the way he loves her. the way he falls in love with her. i just loved how their story played out. honestly, i think break of day is my new favorite in the series. each book is so good, i loved reading about the hernández siblings. i love it when latinos are the leads in romances. those are my people and i love seeing the increased diversity.

This one started off pretty slow for me but I'm glad I stuck with it. The story picks up pace and interest in the second half of the book.

After her fiance abruptly calls off their wedding Carla Hernandez wants to get away from everything and just hide out for a while. What better place to hide than her aunt's home in Havana. Never did she expect to find Jonah Kane already staying there. At first these two don't really like each other but soon with a storm raging outside and no where to go they come together and passion rages inside. After returning home Carla finds out she brought home the biggest souvenir of all.

Good read, just takes a while to really get going.

Break of Day blows in like a cyclone. The passion is as tempestuous as a raging storm. Carla and Jonah seduce readers as easily as they entice each other. Ms. Christopher crafts a tale of resilience that spans two exotic locations and begins within the ravages of uncertainty. Can the love they found whether the storm of real life? An overload of sensations make for a page turning adventure.

Break of Day is a smoking hot accidental pregnancy story. Jonah is a big bear of a guy with a gentle heart and issues from the past that have made it hard for him to love. Carla is a petite firecracker who feels like she can never do well enough in her family of high achievers. They meet when Carla is trying to get over her broken engagement. Jonah was just supposed to be the rebound guy. He turned out to be so much more. If you like you romance spicy with a bit of humor you will love this story.

Unfortunately the book was not for me, no review was publicly posted on Amazon, B&N, Goodreads or Twitter etc, so no ratings were affected in relation to it.

No sure why this book was such a fail with me everything in the synopsis promised an entertaining and sexy romp. But i struggled with Carla's Martyr attitude, and constant downer on herself. Jonah came across as a bit of a douche, and their verbal sparring didn't come across as 'frenemies' rather rude and a little too personal in some instances.

It's a shame as I really enjoyed the previous book in the series, but the chemistry and connection just wasn't there for me this time.
