...So, what did I like about it?
This is only the third book that I’ve read by Ms Aiken but I find her writing style very easy to read and although I haven’t read enough of her Dragon Kin Series to know the multitude of “families” or remember the many ally/enemy relationships that feature in this book, I was quickly submerged into the Dragon Kin world as any snippets of backstory was effortlessly weaved into these pages.
The pace of this story is fast but without being disorienting and I enjoyed that there are different adventures happening in this book alongside the one that our main characters are on, but all are moving on the background story arc with the Zealots threat.
So often in the paranormal romance stories that I read, the authors forget that we (the reader) want to be gripped by the whole experience; an engaging narrative that’s more than just X meets Y and they fall in love – bam - the end. Thankfully, this isn’t the case in this book, I loved the fact that the background story and the quest that our main characters were on felt more significant than the romance that grew between Brannie and Aiden.
I enjoy a story more if the lead female character is intelligent, resilient and has a good sense of humour; Branwen The Awful (Brannie) was all of these and more, you’d definitely want her on your side. Aiden was a good male lead to balance this strong female and both showed us their multifaceted personalities as the tale progressed. In fact, I liked the way that all of the characters in this story were written, none of them were flat 2-dimensional creations, they all felt very real for me, I loved the way that Brannie’s reluctant group grew and evolved along their journey, all of which meant that I engaged with their story.
Oh, and like most Brits I do love a bit of well written banter and this story has plenty of it! I found myself COL (Chuckling Out Loud) throughout this book while wondering how many of our characters/heroes would still be with us by the end due to the continual pushing of each others’ buttons.
...So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
Not disliked, no.
This book only missed out on a 5 star review from me because of the confusing amount of family relationships. There are a lot of aunties, uncles, cousins, etc which as a new-ish reader to this series, I found daunting and at times confusing. Perhaps Ms Aiken could create a Family Tree that could be printed at the beginning of the book. However, I got so caught up with the story that I soon stopped worrying about my lack of background knowledge and just enjoyed the ride.
...So, basically what I’m saying is...
I really like this book; I found it very entertaining, well written and a real page turner. It’s a first-rate paranormal romance story, passionate, funny and thrilling with an attention-grabbing background adventure to boot and when the fighting starts it gets bloody, especially for the enemies of these mighty dragon kin!
The Dragon Kin series is already a firm favourite with many and I understand why; I’ve added the earlier books in this series to my Amazon wish list!
Favorite Quote: “”Do you two mind? We have an empire to destroy. Move your asses!”
Aiden the Divine is just that… divine. A berserker in the Dragon Queen’s personal army and a member of the Foulkes de chuid Fehhan , Aiden is gorgeous, charming, humorous, intelligent, and very rich. A royal in his own right, he is ready to allow Branwin the Awful full and unfettered access to his body. But only after she stops laughing.
Branwen (Brannie) the Awful of the Cadwaladr Clan, Captain of the First and Fifteenth Companies of the Dragon Queen’s Armies, Colonel of the Ninety-Eighth Regiment of the Southland Armies, daughter of Ghleanna the Decimator and Bram the Merciful (Dragon on Top), has much more important things to tend to other than Aiden the Divine’s ego. Like saving a nation from a vengeful God who seeks to destroy them all. Of course, once this war is over and they emerge triumphant, who knows what could happen.
Bring the Heat picks up with Aiden the Divine, whom we first met in Feel the Burn. He has come back to the Southlands and reunited with his beloved Queen, the Mì-runachs, and his best friend, Brannie. He joins Brannie on the field as she leads her companies against some of Chramnesind’s zealots. When the mountains become sinkholes due to magic, Aiden rushes to save Branwen from being buried alive and expects some gratitude.
“Aren’t you going to thank me?”
“No.”
“Not even a thank you kiss?”
“What about a thank you punch to the face?”
“Is that my only option?”
Brannie and Aiden soon find themselves not in the thick of battle as expected but playing babysitter to Brannie’s cousin, Keita- the Red Viper of Death and Despair, as she plots, poisons, and pouts her way towards the Eastland dragons. Brannie’s not happy to have been pulled from the battlefield and her displeasure has her judging every move Keita makes.
“Oh, Keita.”
“What? What is that tone?”
‘Why did you kill them? Are you just bored?”
“Of course not.”
“If you’re that bored, there’s a whole battlefront where you can kill to your heart’s desire.”
“Ugh. Stop, Branwen. I killed those people because they had to die.”
“Because you’re bored? Or do the voices tell you to do things? Evil things?”
G.A. Aiken brings back her irresistibly humorous, snarky, action packed, violent and outrageously larger than life dragons and their human mates in the ninth book of her epic adventure fantasy series-Bring the Heat. Add in the Black Bear Riders of the Midnight Mountains of Despair in the Far Reaches of the Steppes of the Outerplains (God, I love these names) and a comfortable friends to lovers romance and you will be belly laughing till the very last page. Readers who have felt that the last few books haven’t done much to advance the arc will rejoice in the amount of acreage covered in here.
“You went to one of the hells and you came back with an army. That’s impressive.”
The continuously evolving world and multi plotted storyline keeps readers on their toes as Aiken gathers all the loose threads through the series and begins to wrap them up, putting the finishing touches on the larger picture as she brings this particular arc to a climatic finish. I love the massive reunion of characters. Almost everyone we’re ever met in this series makes an appearance as the Southland Empire and their allies all come together to interfere, insult, threaten, offer useless advice, and annoy each other to distraction as they each play their part in the war against Chramnesind. Their antics keep the story moving along at a rapid pace.
“There’s nothing wrong with a little crazy…never forget that. Hold on to that. It may save your life.”
“That’s really sweet. But we both know I’m way more crazy that a little crazy.”
Friends to lovers is a favorite trope of mine and Aiken perfects it with this couple. I absolutely loved Brannie and Aiden. Intelligent, witty, and loyal, these two are born warrior protectors. Some readers may be disappointed to see this couple isn’t as volatile as some of the other couples; therefore creating a more laid back and slow burning romance. Delightful banter and steamy sex scenes further solidifies this couple’s compatibility as they accept their attraction and act on it without a lot conflict, fuss, or drama.
“No f*cking as dragons. I totally understand it…like prostitutes that won’t kiss their clients.”
“Are you calling me a whore?”
“No. Do you want me to? I’ve known a few she-dragons who liked that sort of-”
“No. I don’t want you to.”
“Oh. All right. But what a dirty…and naughty?”
“Yeah, that’s all right.”
Bring the Heat is the book that fans have been waiting for and everything you could wish for in a fantasy romance adventure. If you enjoy outrageous characters, comical narrative and hilarious unpredictable scenarios, then look no further than G.A. Aiken’s Dragon Kin.

**Received ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review**
Bring the Heat is book 9 in the Dragon Kin series- Aiden the Divine and Branwen (AKA Brannie) the Awful's story. This book can be read as a standalone, however I typically think the books are best read in order. Though the author does a good job of letting you know who each of the characters are, and you see some of their personalities, you don't get as much if you don't read the previous stories. This is the hardest review I've ever done on a book. I love this series and have read every book this author writes and under her other name also. I couldn't wait to read this book, and I was so disappointed in this book. First, if I wouldn't have known that it was a romance book, I would have had no idea until after 50% of the way through the book that it was one. The story jumps around so much that it was hard to know what was going on, and the romance was an after thought. It did not feel like the premise for the book, there was more about the other characters in the story then there were about the H&h. I did enjoy Aiden and Branwen as characters, but again, the story didn't feel like it was about them. I always enjoy the humor in the books, and there is a fair amount of it in this book. The humor and the last 25-30% of the book is why I rated it at 3 stars. The book jumped around less, and it started to close out the story line. I did feel like the ending of the story just stopped which was frustrating also since the story between Aiden and Branwen was so limited. Though this story didn't do much for me, I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!
Just Saying don't start with this one If you've not read the first books in this series you'l be lost in this one. This book starts off years after the last book and of course there is a battle raging. This book is the story of Branwen the Awful and Aiden the Divine and their quest to help Keita the Viper to find Ren and or go and stop Ren's mama from declaring war on them any way they can. They already have one war with the Duke Salebiri and his bitch wife Vateria who along with the Zealots are waging war on them and their allies. And they don't need another one.
One of the things in this book that tickled me was that they sent Queen Annywl aka the mad queen of Garbhan Isle to hell to get her out of the way. And the prince of hell wants to use her children and tells her so. So not the smart thing to tell her rofl. This book ends with Brannie and Aiden as a couple and they have the final battle with the Zealots and win. One of the Duke and Vateria's children escapes but the rest of them are destroyed so I'd call that a win. Oh and they destroyed the God Chramnesind who was helping and guiding the Duke and Vateria well not them their other Gods finally joined in and helped take him out.
This book had me snorting and laughing so hard at times that I almost peed myself. If you like snarky bad ass heroines, over protective heroes, and both of them working together to kill the bad guys with lots of humour then this book is for you.
I give this book 5 stars and I was given this book via Netgalley with no expectation of a favorable review.
I can always count on a fun and interesting book from G.A. Aiken/Shelley Laurenston. This is book 9 in the Dragon Kin series. It features Aiden and Branwen and, while light on romance, there's lots of Aiken's signature fun, laughter, and zaniness. Other characters in the series show up, of course, and sometimes take over the story a bit but it just adds to the overall fun of this book.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher, Kensington, via NetGalley
HE SAYS . . .
I, Aidan the Divine, am . . . well, divine. My name was given to me by the Dragon Queen herself! I’m a delight! Cheerful. Charming. And a mighty warrior who is extremely handsome, with a very large and well-hidden hoard of gold. I am also royal-born, despite the fact that most in my family are horrendous beings who don’t deserve to live. And yet, Branwen the Awful—a low-born, no less—either tells me to shut up or, worse, ignores me completely.
SHE SAYS . . .
I’ll admit, I ignore Aidan the Divine because it annoys him. A lot. But we have so much to do right now, I can’t worry about why he keeps staring at me, or why he always sits so close, or why he keeps looking at me like he’s thinking about kissing me. We have our nations to save and no time for such bloody foolishness . . . no matter how good Aidan looks or how long his spiked tail is. Because if we’re going to win this war before it destroys everything we love, we’ll have to face our enemies together, side by side and without distractions. But if we make it out alive, who knows what the future will hold . . .
Review:
You know how sometimes series start to get stale after so many books, well this series does not suffer from this problem!!
In each book you have a continuing/evolving story that includes a hot couple, wickedly fun dialogue, blood and gore, and Annwyl. Seriously though, I love each of these books. You never what is going to happen. I love that even though it is featuring a specific couple, everyone and their brother is usually involved in the story. And again, Annwyl, good thing she is a tough b***** because she sure does get beat on a lot and the baddies always under estimate her.
This book is Aidan and Brannie's story, but like I said everyone is involved. They were a great couple, who came together a little easier than some of the other couples in the series. Theirs was globe trotting adventure with lots of fun, drama and blood. I am not going to give away more than that. This series, though not necessary to be read in order, really should be because of that continuing/evolving storyline.
4Stars
*I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by the publisher.*
I've faithfully read all of this author's books and I just love to meet again old friends. The gang is all here and each has something to say. But Aidan and Branwen just steal the show for me! Yes, the ending battle is...truly epic and not to be missed but all in all these two just made my book.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review one of my favorite authors once again. Oh how I truly love her writing and humor.
When I hear G.A. Aiken is publishing a new book my entire body perks up because I know I’m fixing to get a double dose of snarky dragons and for me, you just can’t have enough dragons. What I have had enough of is the continuing story arc of the war against the god Chramnesind and his thousands upon thousands of zealots. Truly, I was over them about two books ago.
The romance in this book centers around Brannie and Aiden. Brannie is the daughter of Ghleanna and Bram and she’s also Izzy’s best friend. Aiden is a royal dragon who also is a member the Mi-runach, the queen’s bat shit crazy but very loyal personal warriors. I’ve always loved Brannie, she’s insane on the battlefield and hilarious off it. Aiden is a newer character only around the last few books. We learned about his horrid family and history in book 8, Feel The Burn. He’s the voice of reason for his Mi-runach squad, keeping the crazy warriors from losing their heads. My problem is like the last few books, the romance took a backseat to the war storyline and for me at least, the book suffered for it.
With the war not going well at all, Brannie, Aiden, and his two squad members, Caswyn and Uther are sent on an impossible do or die mission with Keita. Brannie and Keita don’t get along mainly because Keita may be deadly but she’s also somewhat of a twit. Along the way they get stuck with some riders (who are my least favorite of all the characters in this series).
While they are on their mission, we also keep going back and forth to the POV’s of other characters. Annwyl has yet again found herself in another OTT crazy impossible situation and literally has to fight her way out of hell. Dagmar along with some of her creepy kids also get a fair amount of page time. I loved and hated these interruptions into Brannie and Aiden’s story. I enjoy time spent with beloved characters from other books, but hate that the war and all the other happenings literally hijacked the romance.
As happy as I am that this book finally wrapped up the Cult of Chramnesind story line, it ended up not being my favorite book of the series. The desperate mission, the war going bad, even some of the snarky fights all felt rather deja-vu-ish to me and I had a hard time staying engaged. The romance being treated more as an afterthought didn’t help much at all. It never really clicked with me even though some of the steamy stuff was hot. The final battle felt a bit rushed but I can’t say that bothered me. Truly, I was so over the whole cult thing, instead of a feeling of victory it was more of a “Thank goodness that’s over with so we can move on” sort of moment.
I still love this series and I love all the characters. This may be the end of the war, but it’s not the last of the Dragon Kin Series. I’m just hoping that future books will be more relationship oriented like the first ones. I love all the action, but I need more actual romance to balance the story out.
Rating: 3.5 Ding Dong The Cult is Finally Gone Stars
I have read all of the DragonKin books and they all are some of the funniest things I have ever read.
Couple the hilarity that GA Aiken brings with the pure insanity of these characters and you have a treat BUT I think it might be hard to appreciate some of the story itself (there is always good and sometimes serious plot) if you have not read at least the first 3-4 books in this series. Insanity at it's finest and I hope she writes them for a very long time. 5 Stars for this latest couple and their violent romance :)
QuickShot Review 4.75 Stars
An exciting addition to this series, I devoured this book quickly and happily. I have to say that this is NOT a standalone, and I think this would be difficult for anyone to follow without knowing the history. The series has been building towards a confrontation between Salebiri, the God Chramnesind and the Mad Queen of Garbhan Isle, Cadwaladyrs and the House of Gwalchmai fab Gwyar and the battle finally comes to a rousing conclusion here (with a hint of things to come). All of the series favorites are involved in this one and all the ongoing plot points worked seamlessly to give me a fantastic, exciting tale.
The only thing that took a teeny, tiny, itty, bitty bit off the rating for me was the romance (aka the thing that brings me to the yard, every time). While I like Brannie and Aiden, and their relationship was fun, you could honestly take it out of the equation and this book would have functioned just as well. It didn’t feel essential, and while I liked the characters I wasn’t completely bowled over by them either.
Having said that, if you love this series I would highly recommend picking up this book. If you haven’t read the series but you love fantasy series with lots of humor and action-adventure and intricate familial relationships, I’d also encourage you to pick this up...after you start at the beginning.
I am partial in this review because I LOVE this author and the series. I love a romance where you have romance AND laughter. I highly recommend this book.
Do you like dragons? Lots of dragons? Shapeshifting dragons? A big family of shapeshifting dragons? A big family of smart-mouthed shapeshifting dragons? Then you might enjoy Bring the Heat.
Do you like humor? The aforementioned smart-mouthed humor? Smart-mouthed humor in the face of danger or romance? Then Bring the Heat might belong on your shelf.
Do you enjoy conflict? Violent conflict? Violent conflict inflicted by bigger than life (smart-mouthed) characters? You might assume that bigger-than-life refers to dragons, but it could be humans too. Then you might like Bring the Heat.
What about a strong she-dragon? A strong dragon that has no use for romance? A strong dragon that has no use for romance regardless of the he-dragon that hangs around and, in fact, she encourages him to hang around? If so, you would like Branwen the Awful, heroine of Bring the Heat.
How about the he-dragon. A dragon with a head full of common sense? A beta hero dragon with common sense? A beta hero dragon with common sense that is quite taken with Branwen the Awful. Bring the Heat has such as dragon in Aidan the Divine. I would also mention that he is smarter than all the other dragons in his troop, but my pattern was getting too long. But I like that about him.
I have been a fan of G.A. Aiken’s Dragon Kin series for a several years. I started with book 1, Dragon Actually, and if you really want to know what is going on with the cast of thousands, that is the best place to start. Book 9 has all the characters from the previous books and, to be honest, I had a difficult time remembering who was who based on name alone. Except for Annywl the Bloody and Fearghus the Destroyer, the original romantic pair. And of course Gwenvael the Handsome, my favorite fictional dragon, who did not get enough mention in this book.
But this is Branwen’s and Aidan’s story. Theirs was not the typical romance. Branwen has this mission. There is a war going on. The book concentrated more on the non-romance aspects of the story, which I thought was appropriate given Branwen’s attitude toward the idea of taking a mate. The romance was snuck in at appropriate intervals. The reader knows it is going to happen, and all the semi-romantic moments leading up to the actual commitment of Branwen to Aidan are mostly funny and sometimes hilarious. In typical Dragon Kin style Branwen will almost get Aidan killed before she admits to any feelings for him. But don’t worry. Bring the Heat is still a romance. You will get your HEA!
So – dragons, humans, violence, humor, a mission, a war, and a romance – you get it all in this book. If you are a Dragon Kin fan, you can’t go wrong with Bring the Heat.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley so that I could bring you this honest review.
OMGEEEE! Where to start? G. A. Aiken did not let me down or disappoint!! As with all of her books, I could not put it down. This book has ruthless plotting , classic Aiken snarky sarcastic humor, clandestine encounters and lots of requisite brutal battles sprinkled with the heroines I have come to love. This book definitely brought the heat!
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
What can I say about Aiken's book?
They are always awesome.
I can never get enough of her books.
Aidan was named "The Divine" by the queen.
It is a very appropriate name for him.
There is just one problem.
No matter what he does, he can never impress Branwen.
Branwen likes to mess w/ Aidan, but I am not really sure if she knows that Aidan is really trying to woo her.
Their relationship is hilarious,
I can't hardly wait for the next book in the series,
Please be soon
Finally - the story of the Suave and Charming Aiden and his battle crazy potential mate Branwen. Humour, intensity and emotion from all and more scarcasm and spite than you can possible handle. Expect the unexpected - the cast of characters is immense and will take some getting used to. (Note: if you have not read the other stories in this series, then you will be a little lost with this story.) This is the climax to the Zealot army/Chramnesind arc and the conclusion of this is spectacular. Action packed fighting, soaring flights of fancy, blood curdling adventures and moments of sadness that will have you reaching for a tissue
Showdown time, from the beginning battle scene to the end Bring the Heat is more a war time good versus evil story with a good dose of romance. Bring the Heat brings a conclusion to the one major overarching theme in this series but leaves a lot of wiggle room for more books to come.
I don’t think this was intended to be a stand-alone book since there are so many characters. Many it seems are from previous books, some may well be new ones. Having only read a couple of books in the series, I am not sure. It did cause a bit of confusion especially if names were similar. There is also a complexity to some of the supporting characters that meant they walked the line on being good or bad, according to their personal agendas at the moment. All that means, this is one intriguing read.
The love interest between Aidan the Divine and Branwen The Awful is a natural progression from friends to lovers. I liked them both, enjoying their titles as well as many of the others. The bigger theme overshadowed their story at times, but I imagine such is true in the time of war. Several subplots are also happening so the reader is kept on their toes.
The author mixes humor and grisly battle scenes within this intricate plot. Fans of this series will find this to be a must read. For paranormal fans like me, I wish that I had read the books in order instead of jumping to this one. It is a series worth the time and cost.
4.5 stars-- BRING THE HEAT is the ninth full-length installment in G.A.Aiken’s adult DRAGON KIN fantasy romance series focusing on a group of Southland dragon shifters and their mates. This is Aidan the Divine, and Branwen, the Awful’s story line. BRING THE HEAT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary although I recommend reading the series in order for history, cohesion and character back stories. There is an ongoing threat against Queen Annwyl and the ‘abominations’-the powerful offspring of the dragon and human matings.
Told from several third person points of view including Aidan and Branwen BRING THE HEAT focuses on the upcoming war threatening Queen Annwyl the Bloody, and the children known as the ‘abominations’. A rather larger group of dragon-haters known as the Zealots has targeted the human Queen in an attempt to destroy that which they fear-the unknown. When several dragons, and the Queen go missing from the most recent battle, Branwen the Awful is charged with protecting her cousin and royal offspring, Keita the Viper, as she prepares to do battle with a potential threat of a different kind. Enter Aidan the Divine, a dragon warrior and member of the Queen’s most terrifying army known as the Mi-runach who is tasked with escorting Branwen and Keita on a journey towards another possible war. What ensues is the building relationship between Branwen and Aidan, and the inevitable battle between the dragons, the gods, the witches and the demons.
BRING THE HEAT is a story line that follows several converging paths with a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many of the previous story line couples and characters, as well as their growing families of gifted offspring. Talwyn, Talan and Rhiannwen, otherwise known as the ‘abominations’ continue to slowly come into their powers but it is Gwenvael and Dagmar’s hatchlings that may be a bigger surprise going towards the future. With the introduction of more extended kin, cousins and family, as well as the growing number of ‘hybrid’ offspring, I suspect many more story lines focusing on the Dragon Kin and threats to their less than idyllic family dynamics.
G.A.Aiken uses humor, sarcasm, playful banter, and witty one on one repartee between the characters as she takes the reader on a journey into the fantastic. Her world building is colorful, energetic and vast-you can feel the emotional highs and lows, the anxiety and excitement as the war kicks into high gear, threatening everyone and everything in its’ path. There is plenty of bloodshed and violence wrapped in a comforting blanket of family, kinship and ….fun! If you haven’t read G.A.Aiken’s DRAGON KIN, what are you waiting for? And, for even more fun, check out her Pack, Pride and new Honey Badger shifter series !!

This has to be my favorite book in the series so far because I was constantly laughing and I thought the couple's relationship was perfect with how it grew. Keita played a big part here, but despite how much I hate her, she didn't really bug me much this time. Aidan and Brannie have been fighting side by side for a few years now since the war with the Zealots started. They have developed a great friendship during that time, surprising Brannie. After the mountains around them come crashing down burying them, Aidan and Brannie manage to climb out with minimal injuries. The same can't be said for Aidan's Mi-runach brothers, Caswyn and Uther (who are simply hilarious). Before the four of them can rejoin their armies, they are given a new mission to help Kieta find Ren. And if he's dead, prevent the East from starting a war with them. Along the way, they end up getting stuck with some of the daughters of the Steppes which just complicates everything. This groups' travel to the East and all that happens there was entertaining to be sure, with positive outcomes.
I really enjoyed how Annwyl was sent to hell during this whole time. While she starts out in one hell realm, she does find herself in others on her search for a way out. It's always amazing what she deals with and how she comes out victorious. In this case, she gets a demon army. Very cool.
The final battle against the Zealots was creepy but great. I was not disappointed at all. Though I was frustrated with what they allowed Brigida to do because they know she can't be trusted, and now I"m sure they'll have new enemy soon enough.
All in all, this book was great and I look forward to more.

I loved this chaotic ride with the dragons and the trouble that is always present. All I could do was hang on and enjoy the madcap mayhem. It isn’t a sweet romance, or even a hot one – but rather a fun one, because Brannie had her usual brassiness, which was well matched with Aiden’s patience. Sadly, they didn’t have a lot of time alone, it was usually filled with enemies and their crazy families; but that is what makes it a Dragon Kin novel. I admit that a part of me misses the more “one on one” romances of the first books, but once in this world, it’s hard to let go. Another fun addition to the series.

5 Hearts, a Recommended Read!
SJ, Romance Junkies
The ninth book in G.A. Aiken’s Dragon Kin series, BRING THE HEAT, is trademark G.A. Aiken. Humor, adventure, violence, and romance combine to prove that once again, Aiken is at the top of her game in the paranormal romance genre.
The characters are funny and richly layered, a vibrant amalgam of humor, emotion, and depth. Though the romance is centered between Aidan the Divine and Branwen the Awful, two dragons who’ve appeared in previous Dragon Kin books, the complex storyline involves characters from the previous books in the series. (Reading them in order greatly enriches the story.)
What makes the characters so vivid is that each has a distinct personality. Somehow Aiken keeps them all separate, and the humor is laugh-out-loud funny. Branwen is truly awful–in the best way, a warrior dragon who loves to battle and is good at her job. Aidan is part of the dragon queen’s special warriors, the Mi-runach, who pillage and destroy at the queen’s command. Together, Branwen and Aidan fit, and the adventure they go on is absorbing, adding deftly to the overarching plot.
Taking place years after the previous book ended, the war is ongoing. The hunt for a wicked enemy has continued through the series, and in BRING THE HEAT, the dragons might just have found Vateria after all. There are plots and secrecy and the possible death of a beloved character we’ve seen before. The tension mounts as the human queen, Anwyll, is thrust into hell while the others must fight without her.
So much is going on, but everyone has a part to play. The reader will be glued to each page, reading frantically to find out how it ends. Gods, dragons, witches and humans are mounting a war, and there’s no guarantee who will survive…and who will win.
Another pulse-pounding, uproarious, thoroughly entertaining story from the super talented G.A. Aiken. Fans of the series will not be disappointed.
A RECOMMENDED READ!
