I found this book to be a fun read with 2 very head strong characters. Sometimes it felt the story was running in circles because of the 2 main characters at odds so much. I did enjoy the read though and felt I liked the writing.
This novel was an enjoyable read and better than I expected it to be. The author weaves an interesting tale filled with romance, betrayals, action, and other themes that keep you entranced.
Lady Genevieve appears as a strong character due to her upbringing and is extremely stubborn. She is to be married to a nice man, but when her father denies Tristan de la Tera into his home, it sets off a chain of effects that will challenge her greatly.
Tristan de la Tera returned home to his land and people destroyed by King Richard since he would not support him. They killed his wife and unborn child and he promised revenge by joining Henry Tudor. He is a proud and strong man. He attacks Edenby since Genevieve's father swear oath to Richard. Genevieve's father and fiance are killed and she promises not to surrender to them. She tricks Tristan and his men and he swears that she will give him everything promised and denied to him.
When Genevieve goes to swear fidelity to Henry, she is in for a surprise when Tristan says he claimed her and her land. She is angry with him and promises to hate him forever. Tristan and Genevieve have a love/hate relationship, neither willing to give in. Tristan can never trust and she proves that he cannot. Tristan knows Genevieve is a beautiful woman and does not understand why he cannot let her go. He does work and help with the people of Edenby, which he takes more on an interest in than the previous lord.
When Tristan sees a man from Edenby that has his eyes on Genevieve, he is angry and does not trust him, for he is also a traitor to his people. Genevieve gives him the benefit of the doubt since she has known him since childhood and knows Tristan would kill him, which gets her into trouble and causes her heartache. Over time, Genevieve realizes she hated to love Tristan and was jealous at times when he would be done for long periods of time. Tristan realized he loved Genevieve, but believed she held a torch for someone else. He was wrong and Genevieve is partly to blame for that. However, someone wants Edenby and will do whatever is necessary to attain it. Can enemies truly fall in love and overcome the obstacles of that hatred?
