This was a beautiful book. Great followup. The story held on its own, but if you read The War That Saved My Life, this book tied a lot of loose ends together. Loved this book!

This sneak preview offers a glimpse of Bradley's sequel to her award-winning THE WAR THAT SAVED MY LIFE, one of my favorites about families facing the challenges of World War II. As the book begins, Ada is about to undergo surgery to correct her clubfoot. In the hospital she learns that her abusive mother has been killed in the bombing of London, leaving her uncertain about the future. Her loving foster mother, Susan, assures her that she and her younger brother will still be her own family and that her home is theirs. Unfortunately, Susan's house has just been destroyed by in yet another bombing raid.

This brief excerpt completely hooked me. Ada is dauntless, less worried about facing surgery than she is about what the loss of her birth mother will mean to her and Jamie. I can't wait to order the book and find out more about this lovely character.

Like the first book of Ada & Jamie , I loved this book! I just wish that it wasn’t considered a ‘kids’ book because I know many adults would love it. Ada starts her story not long after The War that Saved My Life. Her mother has died in a London bombing and won’t be causing her grief but 11 years of being told you are worthless will not go away easily. Susan, an adult with her own problems has risen to the occasion of taking Ada & Jamie in and has grown to love them. Susan arranges for Ada to have her club foot operated on and it’s a successful operation altho it does take a while to heal.

That is how the book begins — Ada is still 11 but the book goes until she is 14 and a lot happens. It is wartime so you can expect sorrow but you will also see growth, not only in Ada but also in Lady Thorton, the local gentry who aggravates Ada but also has much to learn from her as well as teach Ada. This is a book that you will remember.

I loved The War that Saved My Life so much that I wasn't sure I wanted to read a sequel. I've been disappointed by so many sequels in the past, but thankfully that was not the case here. The War I Finally Won was every bit as moving and heartfelt and the first one. Although the main character, Ada, was in a better situation in book two than she was in the previous one, I was continually shocked by the things she didn't know, things we just take for granted, that a child in her circumstances would never have learned or been exposed to. Ada is facing her fears, dealing with change, grief, and reconciliation in a way that will appeal to young readers (grades 4-9). My middle school students (grades 6-8) are avidly reading the first book as part of the Virginia Readers Choice selection, and they are eager to read the sequel. I've had to buy multiple copies to keep up with demand.

The War I Finally Won is a continuation of the story that began with The War That Saved My Life. I highly recommend beginning with the first book as readers won't fully appreciate the struggles of the characters without discovering how their lives first intersected.

Both books take place during World War II and offer a personal glimpse into the struggles and sacrifices that were made to survive those years of world conflict. The main character, Ada, is facing a war of her own as she struggles to find a place to belong. Having endured the trials of an abusive childhood as well as a physical deformity, Ada finds it hard to accept the kindness and love she is finally receiving..

This is one of the most beautiful and sensitive books I have read in a long time. I recommend having some tissue handy--I cried tears of both sorrow and joy. Bradley has crafted a tale that will linger in your heart and mind long after the last sentence has been read.

Disclaimer: I received a free ebook of The War I Finally Won from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received.

Ada's journey toward physical and emotional healing picks back up in this sequel to The War That Saved My Life. With a surgery to correct her club foot, and with the support of a loving home, she slowly--so slowly--learns to trust other people. Her prickly nature and keen observations of other people continue to bring superb tension and clarity to the story. It's not often that a sequel exceeds the power and impact of the first tale, but this one does. Highly recommended for all readers of the first book, and anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

This characters of this book stay with you long past the turning of the last page. My school decided they liked the sequel better because they got to know everyone even more and they learned so much about that time period.

It’s rare that a sequel is as wonderful as the original, but this one totally breaks that stereotype! I loved revisiting these characters and seeing how the war continues to affect each of them. I’ve already bought copies for myself and my libraries!

Beautifully written, The War I Finally Won is the sequel to The War that saved my Life. Though the story begins with Ada finally having surgery to fix her club her foot, her emotional scars run much deeper. Set in the English countryside during WWII, the struggles, hardships, rationing, and common loss help Ada heal and learn to love and trust again.

I loved the first book and cried when it ended so I was thrilled to get to meet Ada again. I look forward to reading the full text!

After receiving an early ARC excerpt from Netgalley, I could not wait to get my hands on the full-length copy even though I had been so worried that the second book would not live up to the first.
There was no need to worry - sigh and happy tears. Kimberly Brubaker Bradley has done it again. Main character, Ada, faces so many struggles in her life set in WWII England; however, her story will leave you feeling calm and hopeful. One of the best books I've read this fall!

I was so excited to see this title available for a sneak peek! I have been waiting on this book for what feels like forever...and I was not disappointed. I cannot wait to get it into the hands of all my young patrons!

Having read The War That Saved My Life, the sequel was much anticipated. It continues the tale of grit and determination while gracefully covering the despair of those left behind during WWII. Although this book centers around the female story line, boys will be just as enthralled as girls as they read. Kimberly Brubaker Bradley has done it again and this book will fly off the shelves.

Judging by the first few chapters, this sequel to The War That Saved My Life will be just as compelling to read. The story begins as the main character is awaiting surgery in a hospital during World War II.. The events in this book immediately follow the events of the previous book, so if readers have not read the first book, they might be confused. Since this was just a preview of the first few chapters, it's difficult to compose a thorough review, but I will eagerly await the rest of the book, which I currently have on order at my local public library.

I've been eagerly awaiting this book after reading a preview on NetGalley. Bradley does not disappoint in this follow up to Ada's story. Now that Ada is no longer "lame" she finally has the chance to be a kid. But what does that mean? Ada is learning to adjust to her new role, figuring out how be a part of a loving family, but most importantly trying to find out who she is. All of my favorite characters are back in this sequel and we learn more about many of them and their lives.

My students are fighting over who gets to read the book first when I am finished. I can't wait to hand it to the first classroom reader on Monday! This book does not disappoint.

This book continues the story of two siblings, Ada and Jamie, who are sent away to a small rural town to escape the dangers of London during World War II. They have become comfortable with their temporary guardian, Susan, but many more trial face these two young people. I really enjoyed the characters, especially the brave and resilliant Ada, and I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of her future experiences.
