ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have to give Undercover Attraction 2 stars. I found the book to be overall boring.
It’s only getting more complicated…
I’ve been waiting and waiting for Aiden’s story and it was as twisty as twist could be! Thrust into the role of head of the family, he had to put his siblings second. Certainly not a secret, but the fine balance he had kept between the family and the family was front and center as he worked to rid themselves of at least one enemy…
Charlotte had been biding her time, waiting for the moment revenge would be hers. She was still a ‘good cop’ even if the world, including her only family, didn’t see her that way anymore. With Aiden’s proposal, she would see justice…
“He was dangerous in ways that had nothing to do with the family he was born into…”
Of course, nothing is that clear cut! Charlie and Aiden united against a common enemy but the façade they cultivated to maintain their charade couldn’t disguise the real chemistry between them. Their relationship sizzled with emotion and power, completely against the agreement they had. They desired each other but some things were worth even more as Aiden provided an acceptance that Charlie hadn’t had in a long time and Charlie provided him a gentle, steadying hand…
With Dmitri and Keira’s story intertwining closely, Charlie and Aiden’s courtship wasn’t the main focus. While I wished for more separation, I can’t deny that both stories were riveting as they explosively came together. And of course all the siblings had to weigh in on the recent developments…
Another great installment that takes the O’Malley’s tantalizing close to the final story that will either blow the family apart or finally heal their many wounds… I can’t wait!
Ex-cop Charlotte Finch used to think there was a clear line between right and wrong. Then her fellow officers betrayed her, and the world is no longer so black and white. Especially when it's Aiden O'Malley, one of the most dangerous men in Boston, who offers her a chance for justice. The only catch: she'll have to pretend to be his fiancée for his plan to work.
Ok, so I might be almost 2 years late on this book, but I LOVED it! It was the second book I’ve read from this author and I want more! This book pulled me in right from the start that I wasn’t simultaneously playing video games on my phone while I read it. I just loved every interaction between Aiden and Charlie. I really liked all of Aiden’s siblings, so much so that I’ll be going back and reading their books too. I highly recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
3 1/2 Stars
✦ Mob boss
✦ Former cop who was framed as a dirty cop (she wasn’t)
✦ Fake fiancée (in order to get revenge on someone else)
✦ Not my favorite in the series and I can’t explain why. It was just . . . nice. *shrugs*
The plot thickens in the fifth story of Katee Robert's mob family series. There's been enough backstory to this point that I'd hesitate to recommend this one as a standalone though the main romance is unique with a new character that is outside of the 'usual' Boston/New York family mafia circles.
Charlotte 'Charlie' is an ex-cop who was framed by dirty cops loyal to Dmitri Romanov (resident Russian mob boss who is a thorn in the side of the O'Malley family). She now works in a bar, is a resident poker expert, and just so happens to be the daughter of an active FBI officer, John Finch, with whom Aiden O'Malley's younger brother Teague has been revealing family secrets. Aiden is trying to keep his family safe especially with an unknown quantity, a mother/daughter team, known for their ruthlessness and unpredictability. Aiden has a deal for Charlie - pretend to be his fiancee and they can take down Romanov, enabling her to get her revenge for how she lost her job. An ex cop and a mob boss make an unlikely pair but can their plan lead to something even better for them both?
This one ties with book 1 as my favorites for the series! I loved the unknown quantity of Charlie and the pairing of an ex-cop and a mob boss. Charlie has no qualms about joining up with Aiden to get revenge on the man who is responsible for her losing her job (and getting beaten in the offing). She's strong, smart and able to think quickly on her feet. Aiden offers her fabulous sex and an inside look into the 'other side', one that isn't so black and white in terms of good or bad.
Aiden is flawed but loyal and he views every action as to how it will affect his family and their reputation. Sometimes this means making tough decisions that aren't the best for the individual person but keep the family safe. Case in point, his younger sister Keira - she's a major figure in this story as there is an 'engagement' between her and Dmitri that Aiden is using a ploy for a bigger plan, only to discover complications that change everything. There is a lot of action, lots of sex, and major plot developments that have this story careening onto the upcoming finale. Charlie and Aiden get their happy ending (though Aiden had to redeem himself for changing the game without letting Charlie know all the details). Excited to finish this series!
I wrote a combined review for all the titles in this series!
Thank you for the chance to read this early - and I can't wait for more from Katee!
Rating~ 3.5 stars
I hadn't read the previous books in the series but regardless of that I still ended up enjoying it!
Charlotte Finch or now Charlie March and Aiden O'Malley come from VERY different backgrounds, she is a ex-cop and her a mafia leader. Aiden needs Charlottes help in taking down their common enemy Dmitri Romanov, Charlie lost her job and sense of self and she's ready to make the person responsible pay but Aiden's plan for Charlie to act as his fiancé isn't something that she's really on board with but needs must.
I really liked them together, they had excellent chemistry and they did understand each other even. Charlie and Aiden both had daddy issues. Aiden especially had to hide his true feelings from everyone around him because of his father but when he was with Charlie he didn't have to pretend. They are both attracted to each other and are aware of it, what they are not ready for are the feelings they bring out each other.
Quibbles: While I really enjoyed the characters and their romance, parts of the plot didn't entirely work for me. It just felt like it was missing something that would have made this a great read, maybe it's because I have read dark romance etc so I felt like this book needed the edge to make it more heart pounding.
I'm not entirely sure of Keira and Dmitri together but I'm eagerly looking forward to the their book.
Overall, it was a good read and people who enjoy reading about fake relationships to real love along with liking darker/anti heroes and mafia would certainly like this one.
Review: Undercover Attraction is filled with lots of action, violence, family, enemies, weapons, torture and even burn up the sheets moments of scorching loving, romance and love. This is Aiden and Charlie’s story. They meet with a hidden agenda and a proposition but will it work for Charlie to fall in with Aiden’s plans? Will her past help or hinder them? Her father is a wild card for both of them but Charlie isn’t totally aware of his involvement and keeps getting hurt when his job always comes first. Aiden would prefer if his father stayed in Connecticut now that he’s not the head of the family but we don’t always get what we wish for, do we? His interactions with Aiden and even Charlie are nothing if not cold and calculating.
As head of the O’Malley mob, Aiden has to keep his family close and his enemies closer and oh how he does! There’s always deal making between the mob bosses but lots of what’s in it for me even when they are helping each other out. Some of Aiden’s family members have even married into the other families which keeps them on their toes. He’s estranged from some of his siblings and tries not to show that he cares for them but it always shows itself to his love interest and fake fiancee, Charlie. She gets him when others close to him don’t. She also helps build bridges between them and for that he’s thankful.
The intrigue and the suspense of what would happen next was captivating and held my interest from the first page to the last. The story had many twists and turns to it and took us from New York City to Boston and back. There were numerous injuries, shoot outs and deaths, even with all the planning and bodyguards. There were secrets and pasts that weren’t known to all but have a way of coming out. There is a chance for a happily ever after in the offing even with thoughts of having been betrayed. There was some closure but enough loose ends to take us to the next book in the series.
Robert is a new to me author but I will be back for more if this is her caliber of writing. This is the first book that I’ve read in the O’Malley series and even though it is the fifth book I didn’t feel lost. There was enough background information given to keep my interest but I will be adding the other books in the series to my always growing TBR pile so I can get the backstories and fill in the blanks. The next book, The Bastard’s Bargain, is due out in February 2018 and I for one can’t wait!
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish this book which means I will not be able to review it. I truly appreciate the opportunity and apologize for the inconvenience the lack of review may cause you.
By way of explanation: I completely loved the first three books in this series, but by the time I got to the 4th and 5th books, I realized I was reading the exact same book with different lead characters.
Finally we get Aiden O'Malley's story and it did not disappoint. An ex-cop heroine out for revenge, a fake fiancee con that ignites a red-hot chemistry that takes both the hero and heroine by surprise. Two, smart, strong, stubborn characters equally matched and fighting their attraction to each other. Sexy, snarker banter, complicated characters, storylines were both heroine and hero grow and change for the better, and unexpected twists and turns in the suspenseful plot make this another great addition to what has become one of my favorite series. I look forward to where the author takes these characters and the O'Malley family empire next.
Robert really hit this one out of the park. The character development aspect really shines in this addition to the O'Malley family story.
Normally, romance books dealing with the mafia are warm and fuzzy. Unrealistic. Not so with Katee Robert’s mafia themed series. They’re dark and gritty. They don’t shy away from the rough aspects of mafia life. And while I was prepared to hate the hero (who is deep in the underbelly of the mob), she makes him someone I absolutely love. He’s protective and fierce. And Charlie isn’t some shy wallflower. She’s a badass in her own right. Their chemistry is explosive and I loved them together. Another amazing book by Katee Robert, further proving why she is one of my favorite authors.
Captivating, breathtakingly sexy and a delve into the forbidden! Katee Roberts takes us for a wild ride of lust, revenge and power with her latest book in the mob-filled life of The OMalleys! If you've read previous books in the series, you will definitely recognize the family members and their enemies as they are mentioned, but you can easily pick it up and read it and enjoy it without having read previous ones. You will miss out on some of the feelings that those earlier books unearthed, but this book is still a strikingly powerful strand-alone! The characters catch our attention and leave us waiting to see if they will become more than friendly enemies ... but the wait doesn't last long! The plot keeps us turning the pages to see what's going to happen and who's going to pay for the crimes that have been committed. It also sets us up nicely for the next story ... I can't wait!
Charlotte Finch was living the life she'd always dreamed of as an NYPD cop and fulfilling her family destiny, until one day the rug was pulled out from under her when she was set up by her fellow boys in blue to take a fall and be coined a dirty cop. Nothing she said or did helped her once she was wrongly labeled. Now she's just living day by day burning up inside from the injustice. When she's approached by a man she knows for a fact is one of the most dangerous in all of Boston, she truly hesitates before she agrees to his plan ... but when someone is offering her the chance at revenge for the man that took her down, how can she really resist??
Aiden O'Malley has been running the family ever since his Dad stepped down and went out of town to regroup. He's making enemies in and out of the family, but no matter how much he cares for his siblings, he has to do things that he doesn't want to do in order for the good of the overall family and organization. Bringing Charlie home as his make believe fiancee is going to set off fireworks for sure, but if she can help him set up the take-down off the century on the enemy who has his sights set on his little sister, it will all be worth it! What he doesn't expect however, is her to turn him upside down and have him wishing with all of his might that he could keep her as his very own!
The O’Malley family has weaseled their way under my skin. I am completely infatuated with them and all of their complicated dramas. I seriously just cannot get enough.
So I was pumped to get my hands on Undercover Attraction, the fifth book in the series and then I was over the moon that Katee Robert gave me everything I’ve come to expect from this group of misfits and more. I loved it!
Aiden has been this a man of mystery this entire series. He knows his role in the family and takes it very seriously. He cannot let his siblings or their family name down. Normally nothing affects him but suddenly - thanks to Charlie - everything is more gray than black and white. Doing what is expected may not be what he wants to do anymore.
It all made for an entertaining as hell reading experience. I was on the edge of my seat, consumed by these two. Their banter and chemistry is red hot. Sweet Jesus, I was smitten and devoured scene after scene, just so I could see what would happen next and then how the author would resolve their unfolding issues.
In the end, I finished the book with a smile on my face and a warm glow in my heart. I adored Aiden and Charlie’s romance and I cannot suggest reading it enough. Meet the O’Malley family and I promise, you’ll be just as smitten as I am.
I can’t wait to read the next book!
I love Undercover Attraction ! it was an sexy , swoony addicting read. Aiden and Charlie had me hooked from the very beginning every twist and turn in this book had me on the edge of my seat, every word made me more and more invested in this story . I feel like with every book in the O' Malley book the series gets better and better and I can now say after reading this book that Iam so very eager to get my hands on Keira and Dmitri books. If your wondering if you should pick this book the answer is yes as soon as you can
"I might be letting you call the shots right now, but that doesn't extend outside the bedroom door."
"Wrong...I'm going to keep us both alive, bright eyes, and that means I call the shots and you obey, no matter how much taking orders from me chafes."
As a fan of romantic suspense, I am absolutely in love with The O'Malleys series by author Katee Roberts. These are characters that I shouldn't like, but how could I not? Three crime families, at odds with each other, yet inextricably entwined with each other. Love, honor, and commitment are the flip side of violence, corruption, and passion, and these books just keep getting better and better.
Aiden O'Malley has been the dark horse of the series for me. Having stepped in to fill the shoes of his retired/deposed father, he's done his share of things in the name of making the O'Malley's the reigning crime family in Boston that have driven his family apart. With new players on the scene, Aiden seeks out Charlie Moreaux to help keep the balance of power in his favor. How was he supposed to know that the game that they were playing would bring higher stakes than he'd expected?
Charlie is awesome. She is the perfect match for Aiden, in every way. She's been burned before, and she's not going to allow herself to be the weak one ever again, and she's more than happy to keep him on his toes, all while bringing a balance to the O'Malley's that they didn't think they'd ever get back. To say that Aiden's and Charlie's story is passionate and steamy is an understatement (seriously, someone, hand me a fan...), but there are deeper layers at play here, and I really enjoyed the way that their story unwound. Neither one is about to back down, but Aiden's gotten more than he'd bargained for in Charlie, and all of the O'Malleys will be the better for it.
UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION is action-packed, and a real page turner, and I enjoyed every bit of it. Although the books are all standalones, it's helpful to have read the other books so that you have an understanding of the politics at play, and the alliances that have been forged. Now, with Aiden paired off, I can't wait to see what happens with Keira O'Malley and Dmitri Romanov, because it is sure to be a fiery, passionate, edge of your seat read. In the meantime, 4.5 HEA mob-boss stars for Aiden and Charlie. This is a series not to be missed, and fans of the mafia read will want it at the very top of their TBRs.
The actual plot (and overarching plot of the series) was weak - the fighting and rivalries between the different mob families really didn't make a lot of sense. However, the romance between Charlie and Aiden was totally believable and hot!
Dirty words, dirty words. Yes, lots of them. Oh, my word. *fans self* Seriously. This is one of the hottest books that I’ve read in a long time. And get this, there is a great plot to go with it. Plus, come on its Charlie and Aiden. I fell in love with this family a long time ago and the series just gets better and better. In fact, I can’t wait to see what happens with the “villain” Dmitri in the next book. Yes, you heard that right. If you don’t have a clue about the series, it’s about a family of mobsters in Boston and how they deal with the business and the partners that they find along the way. Fiercely loyal and will betray even themselves but Ms. Roberts has written the series that every nuisance, word, emotion, betrayal, and character makes sense.
I normally don’t read mobster books. I know, it is another sub-genre that I just don’t “get” but don’t mess with my O’Malley’s. But what truly draws me into the series is how intense driven it is. Most times I’m holding my breath and only exhale when there are smexy times. I can finally relax and feel the emotions between Charlie and Aiden. Plus, Aiden is just plain dirty. *growl* Charlie and Aiden fight their attraction but that’s what makes it so sweet in the end. They can truly be themselves with each other when they can’t with other people. Aiden has been the mystery man to me throughout the series and I’m so glad that I got to know him now. Charlie is just too cool. I loved how she had to decide what shade of gray she believed in with everything that had happened to her.
Seeing the other couples and how they are doing is great, too. I love it when an author doesn’t forget about them and gives you an update. Don’t worry about reading the other books first. This one does stand alone but you might be reaching for the one-click button afterward. Trust me on this. Overall, again, I can’t get enough of this series and I’m so looking forward to the magic that Ms. Robert’s is going to have to weave with Kiera and Dmitri. If you have read the series, you will understand what I mean.
Undercover Attraction is an excellent and gripping addition to The O'Malley's series.
Featuring Charlie and Aiden this was a read packed with action, suspense, secrets, lies and family issues through the roof!
Brought together to bring down a mutual foe, what starts off as a business arrangement develops into much more when this pair spend time together and begin to see that there's more to them than the other thought.
I loved their attraction, how they could speak frankly and honestly in private, the growing feelings and genuine fear that something would happen to the other. Charlie slotted into Aiden's life a lot easier than either of them could have anticipated and the role she took, especially with his sister, let us see that she could easily fit into his world if they would let themselves pursue a future together.
I honestly think this is my favourite instalment so far from Katee Robert, the story connects to the previous books in the series and sets up the next book which features Dmitri and Keira - I'm so looking forward to their story and, hopefully, catching up with Aiden and Charlie
I'm rating Undercover Attraction 5*
Man oh man, The O'Malleys series just keeps getting better and better. I was so excited to finally get Aiden's story and I was thrilled he was paired with disgraced ex-cop Charlotte. The mobster... and the (ex-) cop. That's the kind of complicated relationship dreams are made of, right? Add in a fake relationship and I am so far on board it's not even funny.
Aiden was a fantastic character — so complicated and so much more to him than met the eye. I mean, surely I wouldn't fall for the head of the mob family, right? Oh so very wrong. He was deeply protective of the people in his life, the people he loves... even if he didn't exactly go about protecting them in the best way at times. I LOVED Charlotte. She was strong and determined, despite all the baggage she was carrying. She was such a good match for Aiden. "Fake" relationship... right. Things might've started out that way, but it wasn't long before these two were falling for each other hard.
Hot and sexy scenes, quality romance, edge-of-your-seat suspense, complex family drama and feels — Undercover Attraction had it all. It also made me that much more anxious to get my hands on Keira and Dmitry's book. I neeeeeed The Bastard's Bargain like I need air. (Ok, slight exaggeration. BUT STILL.)
FAVORITE QUOTES
Aiden O'Malley was many things, but appropriate didn't begin to enter into the equation, and safe wasn't even in the same universe. He was dangerous in ways that had nothing to do with the family he was born into, and everything to do with how he frayed her control without even trying. He was a man who inspired the kind of lust that left nothing in its wake.
"You're playing with fire, Charlie."
"Maybe I like the burn."
"Trust me—I'm not going to break rank. I'm destined to marry the monster in the castle, except I'm not beautiful or virginal enough to tame him, and this isn't a fairy tale, where my wit and charm are going to see me into a happily ever after."
He made her feel alive—truly alive—for the first time in as long as she could remember. Her body lit up in his presence, where she felt truly safe. It wasn't a lie. The world wasn't perfect, but with Aiden she felt like there was actually a chance she could make a difference. Somehow.
