I love *everything* about this book. The setup, the characters, the pace. I love that Charlotte Finch is an ex-cop, blamed for being dirty and cast aside by her fellow officers and father (a retired cop) ... who has to partner with and rely on a Boston mob boss, Aiden O'Malley, to take down another mob boss in order to get justice for herself. SO good!
The minute I finished Forbidden Promises I was chomping at the bit to get Aiden O'Malley's story and holy moly, Ms. Robert delivered and delivered big!!
I LOVED that the perfect plan that Aiden put in place to help Charlie ended up backfiring and changed his world in more ways than he thought possible. Let's face it, this man is one of the most powerful and dangerous men in Boston and when he wants something he gets. But what happens when he gets something or more importantly someone that he wasn't looking for?
This is the story of how Charlotte Finch came into his life and changed it beyond anything he ever imagined. Watching this powerful man fall hard for this beautiful woman that's also on the right side of the law was so phenomenal. Their chemistry is off the charts and when these two are together, it's off the charts hot!!!!
As it is in the other books in this series, this story moves and moves quickly. The characters are so well developed and the attention to detail is outstanding. There's a lot of moving parts in this series of books and at no point did I find any hiccups from book to book. I'm a huge fan of this series and now I'm ready for Keira's book!!
4.5 Stars
I have been "patiently" waiting for Aiden's story since the first book in this series. And it was damn well worth the wait.
Undercover Attraction is the fifth book in The O'Malleys' series and I highly recommend reading these all in order as there is an underlying plot that plays out through every book. Each book is about a particular O'Malley but in order to understand the whole picture.
We had been getting tidbits of Aiden and Charlie in previous books, but in Undercover Attraction, we finally get to see the man behind the O'Malleys. Aiden took over his father's place as head of their business and has vowed to not only save his family but exact revenge on those who he has enemies.
Charlie is an ex-cop (not by choice) and has been shunned by her family because of that. When Aiden approaches her with a deal to help destroy those who wronged her. But the only to do that is play Aiden's game and go with the fake engagement. Aiden must hide things from his own family in order for this to work and Charlie has to convince his family that their brother is really marrying an ex-cop. Yea, the mafia marrying into justice, sounds so easy....
I won't give away any more details than that. It's truly an enthralling and enticing story that needs to be read without knowing much. Katee writes extremely deep and strong characters and Aiden and Charlie are no different. I love seeing the other O'Malleys peppered in and reading more about what is to come with Keira and Dmitri in their book (out next in Feb. 2018).
Katee has written a fantastic series and each book you can feel the tension and drama building up to the crescendo that will come to a head in her and next and last book of this series.
If you love a great mafia story with a strong-bonded family, I highly recommend this book.
Earlier this year I picked up Forbidden Promises, the fourth book in Katee Robert’s O’Malley series. I read it as a standalone novel, and really enjoyed it, and was super interested in reading more of the series. I had planned to pick up the earlier books – to grab The Marriage Contract and following in order through The Wedding Pact and An Indecent Proposal – before the realise of Undercover Attraction. Unfortunately, book five was released before I could play catch up. Thus, I jumped into book five having only read book four.
In truth, Undercover Attraction does not work as a standalone novel as well as Forbidden Promises did. A lot of the details mentioned in Undercover Attraction relate back to information in the prior books, to events in the prior books. I had ideas from things mentioned in book four, and from things said in this book, but I was unable to appreciate things in the same way fans who have followed the entire series will be able to appreciate things. In fact, I feel as though this is why I didn’t love Undercover Attraction in the way I had hoped I would.
As I said, I really enjoyed Forbidden Promises. I was pulled in from the very start of the story, finding myself unable to put it down. The storyline was addictive, the characters were a lot of fun, and the romance was built around great chemistry – all whilst leaving me curious about the underlying story working throughout the entire series. In this one, I feel as though things focused more upon bringing together all the elements that have made up the undercurrent of a story throughout. There was an interesting storyline, the characters were fun, and there was certainly chemistry – however, it was not the mind-blowingly addictive story I experienced with Forbidden Promises. In fact, due to the gaps in my knowledge, I felt a bit lost at sea at some points in the earlier parts of the book.
I still really enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong, I simply feel as though I did not appreciate it in the way I would have liked to appreciate it. I expected to feel a bit more towards the characters, to be sucked deeper into the romance, yet such was held off until later in the book. The later parts of the book I really enjoyed – I just wish I could have appreciated the entire book in the way I had hoped to. I’m sure I would have enjoyed this book even more, then. As it stands, this was a much weaker four-star book than Forbidden Promises, but my opinion in that regard may change once I am up to date with the series.
Without a doubt, I will need to play catch up with the series before I read book six. I know book six is going to bring so many elements together, and whilst I may be intrigued by what I know, I’m positive I will enjoy it even more once I have complete knowledge of the O’Malley storyline. Thus, my plan of action before book six is released is to read books one through three.
For those who are up to date, however, I’m positive this story will be a winner.
A really enjoyable addition to the O'Malley's series. I don't know if I connected with it as much as some of the previous books, but I liked the added touch of kink that Aiden and Charlie brought to the table. As much as I enjoyed it, I can't wait to read Keira and Dimitri's story!
I love this series!!!!! Although this book can certainly be read as a stand alone, I can not recommend enough to read the whole series, in order. Charlie and Aiden are HOT and the other couples shine in this book as well. I can’t wait for the finale! Go. Run. Buy them all!!!
A mob boss walks into a bar with a proposition for a beautiful disgraced cop...
Nope there's no punch line, it's just how Undercover Attraction kicks off! Aiden is a master of manipulation and planning in order to try to keep his family safe while maintaining power, and he needs Charlie to help him with his latest plan. He knows Dmitri is the reason she is branded as a dirty cop, and by having her pretend to be his new fiancee she will be the perfect distraction to pull attention away from Aiden's plotting to eliminate Dmitri from their lives for good.
Charlie has been a bit lost since everyone she trusted and loved turned on her in her time of need including her father. When Aiden shows up and asks for her help, her instincts are screaming to run but she can't help asking him one question: why her? There are many layers to Aiden's reasoning, but in the end she decides she has nothing else to lose by taking a chance that she will finally see justice served when he takes down his Russian rival.
Aiden is a man who thrives on control and he is walking a very fine line right now. He has a lot of balls in the air trying to quietly orchestrate Dmitri's takedown while enlisting Dmitri's help to eliminate a worse enemy in a new player making waves: the Eldridge family. These women are straight up batshit crazy and sometimes the devil you know is better than the one you don't - but hey, if you can take out both of them, it's even better, right? Dmitri is becoming more vocal in his insistence on marrying Aiden's little sister Keira to strengthen his position after the perceived insult of Aiden's older sister Carrigan running off to marry a rival family's boss when she was promised to Dmitri by Aiden's father Seamus. Aiden has no intention of allowing Keira to be married to Dmitri but he cannot tell his family members that without risking his carefully laid plans. Keira is on the verge of self-destruction, and Aiden has no idea that she secretly may not be completely devastated by the thought of marrying Dmitri. Now by bringing Charlie into the mix, she is proving to be a very sexy distraction that he didn't count on testing his focus and his control.
Aiden and Charlie fit a lot better than they ever could have imagined as long as you leave the facts that she has a cop's heart and mind out of the equation. When they are in the same room, their attraction is clear as the chemistry sizzles, and behind closed doors that UST ramps up even higher! Charlie is no wilting flower who proves she has the strength to wrangle his family with an ease he didn't expect and to stand by his side or to stand up to him when the occasion calls for it. Despite the rocky start with his family, Charlie is able to connect with Keira in a way no one else has since their brother Devlin died, and she is even able to win Carrigan over to Aiden's amazement. Soon they both find themselves trying to remind themselves that they are from different worlds and that they will never work- but the what-ifs linger for both of them.
That danger I mentioned earlier starts to really make its presence known in all sorts of ways before long, and Charlie is questioning just what the hell she signed up for as she finds herself a target of both Aiden's enemies and ones her father made along the way too. Seamus decides to crawl back out of the woodwork with an attempted power play to further throw Aiden's plans into chaos, and the Eldridges demonstrate why both Aiden and Dmitri are fighting to eliminate them from the scene. Through it all, Charlie realizes that black and white world she used to know is truly gone when the O'Malleys prove they are more than the label she applied to them years ago.
It seems like each story in this series just keeps getting better! Aiden and Charlotte's story was amazing, but I CANNOT WAIT for Dmitri and Keira's story! Is it February yet??? Both Dmitri and Keira play a big part in Undercover Attraction, and the continued buildup to their turn in the spotlight has me absolutely salivating for their book. They have a definite like/hate relationship going on but the sexual tension is growing constantly. In Keira's heart she has always wished for love in her marriage, but real life has taught her she is no more than a bargaining chip to her family so she is trying her best to bury that feeling down deep especially since Dmitri reminds her constantly he is not capable of love and views it as a weakness he cannot afford. Yet his actions seems to demonstrate something different, and his dominant/ possessive traits promise a seriously yummy tale on the horizon as he eventually goes down hard. As Charlie points out, even monsters can have a soft spot and it seems his niece is not going to be Dmitri's only weakness. So while we wait for The Bastard's Bargain, be sure to get yourself caught up on this wonderful series that has become an easy favorite of mine!
Undercover Attraction by Katee Robert is the fifth book in the O'Malley series. I have been following this series right from the beginning and I have to say that I am invested in most of the characters and their lives. This series follows the O'Malley siblings as they navigate through their love lives while keeping a hold on their empire. The O'Malleys are basically a crime family who are trying their best not to lose control of Boston.
Undercover Attraction follows the story of Aiden and Charlie. Aiden is the head of the O'Malley empire. He is now the head of the family and has to make decisions which suit the family best. We'd met Aiden in the previous books and he totally came off as uncaring. But here we get to see that the stoicism is just a facade. He is trying to make the best out of a horrible situation but he knows he is putting a strain on the bonds with his siblings. While Aiden was not my favourite, I understood him more clearly in this book.
Then we have Charlie. Charlie is an ex-cop. She was betrayed by he fellow officers and now even her father doesn't believe in her/ When Aiden comes up with a proposal which has Charlie pretending to be his fiance she is surprised to say the least. But Charlie has her own motives. I liked Charlie. She was a strong woman and she knew what she was doing. She actually saw beneath Aiden's mask and she couldn't help but fall for him.
Charlie and Aiden's relationship starts off as a business relationship but there is no denying the attraction between them. I liked how honest they were with each other and there was no unnecessary coyness. They were both responsible adults who wanted to take care of their family and loved ones.
I also really liked how Charlie made an effort to reach out to Aiden's siblings to repair his relationship with them. I loved seeing all the previous couples and how they were doing. This book also moves Keira and Dimitri's plot forward and I am really looking forward to their book. More than I expected at first. Undercover Attraction was a good read for me.
*Note: A copy of this book was provided by the author/publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. We thank them.
me: nothing can top my love for James Halloran
me: *reads Undercover Attraction*
me: well ok I stand corrected
I can't believe I actually love Aiden O'Malley more than James Halloran, who am I-
*breathes*
I've been consistently rereading Undercover Attraction ever since I finished it the first time. I might have reread it more than I did The Wedding Pact (sorry James but I still love you). Aiden has always been described as cold, ruthless, and the exact replica of his father Seamus. Despite this, I can't help but be intrigued about him, and I'm glad that we get to see things from his POV. He made a lot of difficult decisions as the head of the O'Malley family, and it's a bit sad to see him carrying the burden alone because he didn't have anyone else to trust.
I've never pictured how Aiden's other half would look and act like, but Charlotte Finch is just perfect for him. Charlie is smart and tough, and she takes no shit from Aiden, which I love. I adore seeing her with Keira; Charlie's a great influence on her. I also love how Charlie helped Aiden heal the breach between him and his siblings, especially with Carrigan.
Aiden and Charlie together are super hot. They have a lot of chemistry with each other; they didn't have to do much to convince other people that they're in love and planning to marry. I also love how their "fake" relationship lasted like 5 minutes because they couldn't keep their hands off each other. They're also so in tune with each other it's like they've known each other for ages. Aiden and Charlie fit together, and I can't imagine them with anyone else.
Overall, Undercover Attraction exceeded my expectations and more. I can't wait for February to be here so that I can read Dmitri and Keira's book; I'm so ready for Dmitri to fall on his knees.
I have been so curious about this brother. Each new book in the series we have gotten a little more of a look at this elusive and most mysterious brother. But finally we get to delve into him and he has some serious depths. I really couldn't help but empathize with him even as I wanted to take a hammer to his head. He truly wants to do what is best for his sisters and brothers. His family. But he is in such a tenuous situation and with a reputation that keeps them all safe. One false move and everyone pays.
Charlie is in a word- Awesome! She is kick ass. She is tough as nails with a steel core but manages to have softness. I just absolutely loved her. Undercover Contract is an exciting read. If you have followed the O'Malley's you have watched this situation unfold and I very highly suggest reading this series in order or a reader will get some major spoilers as well as miss out on HUGE details. This plot was great and I am on tenterhooks for Kiera and Dimitri's book. I love this series above all others by this author. They are passionate, suspenseful and emotional. I have become attached to the characters. The writing is great and the details are nice and vivid. The emotional pull is what gets me the most. I highly recommend this book.
This series just gets better and better, Katee Robert definitely can tell a mafia story that never fails to keep me captivated from start to finish. This book centers around the Boston faction of the Irish mob and the power struggle between the mob families to gain a monopoly over illegal activities. The mafia politics is an important part of the story, with multiple players fighting for power.
So, finally, we get Aiden O’Malley’s story. He is the head of the O’Malley mob family and, as expected, his actions are based on questionable ethics. His behavior may appear ruthless and cold- hearted. And yet the author does a great job of getting you to like Aiden despite the things he does as a mob boss. For him, it all comes down to putting his family first and never backing down no matter how bad the odds look.
Charlotte, “Charlie”, Finch has learned the hard way that the good guys don’t always win. She was framed and betrayed by fellow police officers who also happened to be dirty cops. She is determined to take down the likely mastermind behind the plan to frame her: Dmitri Romanov, a powerful Russian mafia boss. She never expected Aiden O’Malley to become her ally in her quest for vengeance. She doesn’t trust him but she needs him. A fake engagement will ensure she is accepted in his world, and surprisingly enough, she is a born actress. But the illusion slowly becomes reality. I loved that Aiden and Charlie’s relationship developed naturally, it never felt forced or based on insta-love.
The story is written from multiple points of view, Aiden, Charlie and Dmitri’s POV. Despite their differences, Aiden and Dmitri are engaged in a temporary alliance that has everything to do with Aiden’s sister Keira.
I enjoyed every aspect of this story: the characters, the action, the exploration of relationships, the romance between Aiden and Charlie and the intense connection between Dmitri and Keira.
I seriously cannot wait for Dmitri and Keira's book. There are so many unresolved issues and the feelings are intense between these two. This book is a great addition to a captivating series. It can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading the series in order.
the o'malley series continues with undercover attraction. as do the political mind games between the three boston mob families and the feds and dmitri romanov. aiden is the acting head of the o'malleys and he's determined to set a trap for romanov. but everything is a delicate game. a deadly game, because one wrong move can get people killed.
aiden underestimates the danger he's courting to trap dmitri. and as much as he is trying to save his sister, keira, he's going about it all wrong. charlie and aiden's story is perfectly fine, i liked it. they had good chemistry and i'm glad they figured out what they wanted. charlie is the one person who is able to see who aiden is deep down. and as ruthless as he is, he cares deeply for his family. he cares deeply for charlie. and he's trying to do the right thing for everyone.
but, here's the thing, and this was true in sloan's book too. keira and dmitri, the dance they're doing is the most interesting thing about this story. she is so broken. she's like a baby bird with clipped wings that won't fly. and dmitri is lethal. he might be the cat determined to eat the bird. but he also might be the one thing that saves her. the one thing that sets her free. and i'm absolutely dying to read their story. it has to be next. there's no one else left, and all roads lead to this one story.
i can't wait.

4.25 stars--UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION by Katee Robert is the fifth instalment in the author’s contemporary, adult THE O’MALLEYS erotic, mafia, romantic suspense series focusing on three warring underground families of the Boston’s Irish mob (O’Malleys, Hallorans & Sheridans), the Russian mafia run by the Romanov family, and new contenders for the Boston territory Alethea and Mae Eldridge. This is the head of the O’Malley clan Aiden O’Malley, and former police officer Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Finch’s story line. UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion as there is a continuing theme running throughout.
Told from several third person perspectives including Aiden and Charlie UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION follows the fake engagement /fiancée trope between former police officer Charlotte Finch, and the acting head of the O’Malley family Aiden O’Malley. Charlotte Finch knows pain, and the fall out of coming clean to the people in charge but vengeance against Dimitri Romanov of the Boston Russian mob has our heroine agreeing to play ‘fiancee’ to the alpha leader of the O’Malley clan. While Aiden appears to disregard his family’s advice, our hero struggles to set into motion a plan to take down everyone threatening the people he loves and management of the territory the family controls. What ensues is the building love and relationship between Aiden and Charlie, and the potential fall out when Charlie is taken hostage by the new players in town.
UNERCOVER ATTRACTION follows several paths including the fractured dynamics of a once proud and controlling Boston mafia family. The inter-family pairings finds allegiances changing but love for one another causes rifts in an already crumbling foundation. Aiden’s announcement of a quick engagement threatens the ever-changing O’Malley control but our hero keeps secret the truth behind his hasty involvement with the woman that will soon call to his heart.
There are a large number of secondary and supporting characters including most of the O’Malley clan: Teague and Callista O’Malley (The Marriage Contract #1): James Halloran and Carrigan O’Malley (The Wedding Pact #2); Olivia and Cillian O’Malley (An Indecent Proposal #3) and their long, suffering sister Keira O’Malley who struggles with demons of her own; Russian mobster Dimitri Romanov whose need to seek vengeance against the O’Malley and Halloran clans quickly shifts as the Edridges seek to destroy them all; hired men Mark and Liam Neale; Charlotte’s father FBI agent John Finch; and the return of the O’Malley patriarch Seamus O’Malley and his wife. Keira and Dimitri’s story is next in The Bastard’s Bargain.
UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION is a story of suspense, family, revenge and love. The premise is intriguing, captivating and engaging; the romance is seductive, erotic and intense; the characters are expressive, charismatic and compelling. UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION looks at the tight knit families of the Boston mob, and the power they exert over the people they love.

I thought this novel was fantastic. I have loved the O'Malley series from the beginning snd Aiden and Charkie were sexy, fiery and so addicting. I loved this!!
I would like to thank Netgalley and the the publisher for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
Can we just get Dmitri and Keira's book? I need that story especially after the way their story ended in this book. I need to see how Dmitri is going to become one of the good guys. I hope no one will die in that book. February is too far away for my taste! The cover of that book is gorgeous.
To be fair the cover of this book is also yummy. One of the reasons I could get the series in paperback would be the covers. The inside is also a good reason to buy the books. Aiden's story doesn't disappoint! I loved it but I am not giving it 5 stars because I found myself more interested in Keira and Dmitri who also tell some parts of the story. They took the focus off the main couple. Aiden is preparing to take down his enemies and I believe that he and Dmitri will take down everyone in the next book. I have a feeling that this book is here to prepare us for the events of the last book in the series. I would love to see Seamus dead or at least eliminated as a threat to his children. I also want to see all the O'Malley's bonding again and admitting that they love each other. So far they have been torn apart and now I hope to see them mend their relationships with each other.
I liked the main couple. They have a slow romance which was a pleasant surprise. They didn't just jump straight into bed with each other and they took some time to get to know each other. I find the match between Aiden and Charlotte to be one of the best in the series. For me, Charlotte is exactly the woman Aiden needs as the head of the O'Malleys. She is strong and she has everything I would have asked for her as a heroine. Aiden has his plan and she is more useful than I could have imagined. For someone who was on the "right" side of the law, she knows how to handle herself. Plus he needs someone to help him when that plan fails in some way.
I was very satisfied with the book. I like Katee Robert's writing and the book had a good pace. Not too fast not too slow (ok slow on the Dmitri/Keira thing). I don't have a single problem with the book other than the one I said in the beginning. I would definitely recommend both the book and the series. You will understand everything that's happening better if you read the previous books and I don't see a reason why you shouldn't give this series a chance.
Aiden O'Malley needs the help of ex-cop Charlotte Finch, even if it means using any means necessary to get it by giving her what she wants most -- revenge against the man she believes was responsible for her downfall when she was betrayed by her fellow officers. However, Aiden never expected to find himself falling for a woman that didn't fit into his world. But the longer their fake engagement goes on, the more Aiden finds himself doing everything possible to stop Charlotte walking away when their arrangement ends. Yet, with danger closing in from his enemies, will Aiden to able to keep Charlotte safe; or will they lose their shot at happy ever after?
I have really enjoyed every single one of the books of this series so far, and have so been looking forward to Aiden's book. So, I've got to say that it was everything I'd hoped for and more because of the way Charlotte -- or 'Charlie' as she likes to be called -- challenges the hero with her sassy attitude and determination to see Aiden make things right with his siblings instead of ther being so much tension between them after everything they've been through. The way this story started had me empathizing with the heroine, as she's been through so much and it's understandable that she fell to pieces with everything that's happened to her. Yet, it's good that she's starting to get her life back on track again. Will getting revenge makes things even better for her? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time in this story that made this story an absolute page turner, as there's some pretty intense chemistry between the hero and heroine and I wanted to discover whether the heroine would get her revenge. Because it's revenge that is much deserved after what her fellow officers did to her to make her out to be a dirty cop.
As for the dialogue, it was very engaging and had me hooked due to the main characters back stories that puts them on opposite sides of the law with Aiden being a huge part of a mob family and Charlotte being an ex-cop. Will she be able to handle Aiden's controlling ways and need to protect her? Will the O'Malley family accept Charlotte into the family? However, it wasn't just the main characters back stories that had me intrigued, but also everything these two go through on their journey to happy ever after including whether Aiden would ever be able to let Charlotte in completely; whether Charlotte would be able to accept the decisions Aiden makes, even if she doesn't agree with them; and of course, what happens between Aiden and the other powerful mob families that put Charlotte's life in danger. Will Aiden be capable of protecting her?
Both the main characters were incredible, and I loved every moment they were together, even though I wished for more danger and less romance at times. However, in saying that, Aiden is a force to be reckoned with. He's arrogant; does what is right for family, even though his siblings don't agree with his methods; determined to protect the heroine once he realizes how much danger she could be in; and I liked that he could accept the heroine's advice when it came to his siblings and making things right between them. I also liked that he stood up to his father and that he would do whatever it took to protect his family. While the heroine, she's feisty and I liked that she spoke her mind when it came to facing the O'Malley family. Will they be able to run her off by scaring her enough? Will Charlotte be able to prove that she's got what it takes to be by Aiden's side? I also liked how determined the heroine was to help Aiden when it came to befriending his youngest sister and getting him out of a dangerous situation without too much trouble.
Overall, Ms. Robert has delivered a worthwhile read in this book where the chemistry was off-the-charts; the romance was fan-your-face hot and proves that Charlotte is a lucky woman to have the attention of a man like Aiden with his dirty talk and determination to win the heroine over; and the ending had me loving the hero more than I already did because he would do anything to protect Charlotte and make her proud with the decision he made when it comes to right versus wrong. I would recommend Undercover Attraction by Katee Robert, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope, the sexy protector trope, or books by authors Laura Kaye, Lori Foster, Rebecca Zanetti and Julie Ann Walker.
This book involves two very hard nosed individuals that appear to have nothing in common. Oh wait a small white lie. They have hot, hot, hot chemistry in the bedroom. Yep I am saying smoking hot.
I really enjoyed how Charlotte and Aiden struggled to be the one in charge since both of them are dominant personalities. And it was enlightening how the author portrayed both of them starting to see the other in another light while allowing them to to be true to their personal belief systems. The author's skill is notable as she further expanded their personalities to show a deeper more caring and loving person on both their parts.
Once again and throughout this whole series the action drama held me mesmerized till the last page. The reader will be pleased with how this ends and how justice was handed out to satisfy both parties.
The ending introduces what I hope is the next book to this series leaving the reader anticipating the climactic confrontation between Dmitri and Keira.
This book gets 5 STARS for keeping me glued to the pages in anticipation.
It took a while for me to really get into Undercover Attraction--the reasons for Aiden and Charlie's fake relationship felt pretty flimsy, and they jumped so quickly into a physical relationship that it made all of their protests and posturing about "how things were going to go" look a bit silly. But once things really got started--with the myriad of opposing forces swirling ever closer and Charlie's attempts bringing Aiden's wayward siblings back into the fold, not to mention their gradual growing feelings for each other (their early sex scenes had me rolling my eyes a bit, I won't lie. But the later ones? Blew. My. Socks. Off.) and the ever-tightening danger around them--I was well and truly hooked. OMG, this series--just when I was almost ready to write this book off, it grabbed me by the neck and wouldn't let go.
Undercover Attraction involves all of the characters from the other series books, and though one probably could read it on its own it would definitely have more of an impact if you've read the others too--better to understand the family dynamics; plus, it's so much fun to see where everyone's ending up after time has gone by. But don't even think about reading this one and stopping--because where Ms. Robert leaves us with the whole Keira/Dmitri drama? It's just darn cruel. February seems an awfully long time away...
Rating: 4 stars / A-
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The fifth book in Katee Robert's The O'Malleys series, increases the stakes as each of the big crime families start making reluctant alliances for each other's survival. Aiden O'Malley has led his family's organization for a year and a half and has sacrificed a lot for his siblings, including his own personal relationship with them. When an opportunity pops up to control his own enemies on both sides, he grabs at the chance. And that chance happens to be Charlotte Finch. Charlie has known the feeling of brotherhood when she has part of the NYPD blues but when she was framed as a dirty cop and kicked out of the force, she suddenly had nowhere else to turn. Building her life again, never included the Boston O'Malley family especially the ever-dangerous Aiden O'Malley. What started out as a cover soon turn up pretty hot and steamy for this two but when the enemy closes in and secrets start spilling can Charlie and Aiden make it work for real?
The O'Malley's are back and a year has passed between the events of the last book and this one. Clearly, everything is coming to a boiling point for the series in this book. Charlie and Aiden's relationship is definitely an instant lust thing which later on developed into something more. The romance is satisfactory since the overarching plot seems to take over a bit of book but because the series is really about the crime families in general, there was a great balance of trying to propel the main plot forward as well as the romance of Charlie and Aiden. The O'Malleys as a whole is a great mix of guns, great sex, and romance and there is an actual plot within all the mayhem. Which makes this series really addicting since you want to find out how it's all going to end. Because it's a romance there is definitely a happy ending for the main couple, but for the action part of the series, namely how it will finally end for the siblings with their differing paths now and their still very much interfering father and of course with their intermarrying with different crime families will probably be answered in the last book. Can't wait for that one.
After his father retired Aiden has assumed control of the family business. With power comes responsibility and what he really needs to do is keep the family safe even if that involves hurting the ones he loves the most. The next thing he needs to do is get his family’s enemy Dmitri out of the picture. He wasn’t about to let his sister Carrigan marry him so he definitely isn’t going to allow his sister Keira to take Carrigan’s place in wedded bliss but he will bide his time and devise a plan to end this farce.
Two years ago Charlotte (Charlie) was forced out of her job as a police officer when she was set up and accused of taking bribes as no one believed that she was innocent including her father. She has rebuilt her life but she knows that Dimitri is behind the set up and she won’t rest until her name is cleared so when Aiden approaches her to pretend to be his fiancee it seems like the perfect opportunity for both of them.
Working together brings out a red hot chemistry between them that is too strong to be denied but when others come gunning for them will they be able to escape with their lives?
This is a great series built around strong complex characters and the storylines are filled with suspense, drama, twists and chemistry. I look forward to the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book
