I'll be honest, this was my first book to read by Danielle Pearl and WOW!!! I now need to go back and read the others!!!
This book gave me all the feels, I felt all Beth's sadness, her reservations about trusting someone again, that right there is an accomplishment for an author to get their readers to feel inside what is happening in the story!
Beth has always had a crush on David, they've always shared a special relationship. They navigate this thing called life together while he's trying not to act on his true feelings, and she doesn't believe the things she thinks she hears him saying, she feels she just making them up in her mind!
Will these two be able to get past the fact that he's her brothers best friend and she is his best friends little sister? You need to read this to find out! 5+++++ stars for this amazing story!!
I was hooked from the first pages. I just love a story that starts at the beginning, even if it's childhood. The story builds and you get a much better feel for the characters. This book gave me everything I could ask for.
The writing is beautiful and very moving. I felt every emotion whilst reading Beth and David's story; I was wrapped up in their relationship and could feel their angst fill my heart and head. I got really angry at Beth's brother, Sammy; he really is a jerk and has wasted time that could have changed Beth and David's path. So much drama... I love it.
This is my first book by Danielle Pearl, but I will definitely be checking out her books.
I so enjoyed this story. It touched many subjects but one was very close to my heart, depression/mental illness, a subject that is a reality for many, many people and the author wrote about it beautifully. She didn't shy away from it but also didn't make the story all about it. I love the depiction of college life and both the "good" and "ugly" in it.
The characters, Bea and David were both great, Bea is a favorite though. David got on my nerves a little with his caveman, protectiveness BS. I do wish the author had delved a little more into his childhood, there was a lot hinted at and a lot kind of discussed but I was very curious about his past.
And the side characters, Sammy needed a good junk punch for his stupidity, but the rest were really good, hope to see more of Brody.
Cannot wait to read more by this author.
This is my first Danielle Pearl book and I get what all the type is about. This book was a beautiful coming of age book. Beautifully written, detailed and the thing I loved most was that there were POV’s from both the characters.
Beth aka Bea is a 19 year old, who’s just starting her freshman year of college at Rill Rock University. After a dark couple of years, Bea is determined to prove that she’s not the same broken girl she was three years ago. She was ready for it all. Adulthood. Independence. All of it!
I love that Bea is silently a strong character. Yes, she sometimes struggles with herself-her inner battles – But who does’t, right? Granted her’s a little bit more darker than the average person. Bea is a character that I admire- For the willingness to reach a helping hand to other and for her confidence to forgive and move on with life regardless of the troubles in her past.
David…..David March, is Beth’s senior/her brother’s best friend/bodyguard. David was a character who I had a love-hate relationship with. There were moments where I loved his protectiveness and dedication towards Bea but there were times where I just wanted to scream at him and shout “YOU COWARD!!!” hahaha!
In pieces was a slow burn in the nicest way, where you grow with the characters and appreciate the experiences along the way.

As always with a Danielle Pearl book, you just know you’re about to read something special and In Pieces was no different. Right from the beginning, I was swept away by Danielle’s writing and the magic of the story.
Although not connected to In Ruins, which I adored, In Pieces has the same emotional and captivating feel to it.
Portraying the story of forbidden love, we meet Beth Caplan who recovering from a trauma that has scarred her young life and the boy that has always protected her, her brother’s friend, David March.
Now both attending the same college, Beth is trying to live a normal life but with David her constant shadow, and warning every boy within 100 miles to stay away from her, normal is anything but what she’s experiencing. David needs to know Beth is safe and well. He too wants her to experience normal but despite inviting her to frat parties, he is still obsessively protective of her.
David has always loved Beth but has been unable to appreciate his feelings for her until now. Sworn away from her by her brother, David is torn between his feelings for her and upsetting his lifelong friend. But with Beth facing possible danger once again, this time from a boy who appears to be stalking her, David knows that he must do everything in his power to keep her safe.
From emotional breakdowns to new love, Beth finds herself in an altogether different whirlwind of emotions as she struggles to understand her feelings for David. Is the boy she has grown up with the man of her dreams or is he more of a brother to her? With forbidden love comes, even more, drama for Beth and David but will they find a way to prove to everyone that they are destined to be together?
This was a really sweet storyline which gave me chills at times. I really do love Danielle Pearl’s writing and would highly recommend her books to everyone who loves a story which combines young love, pain, frustration and a good old HEA.
Outstanding such a beautiful story I couldn't stop reading I had to know how it ended.... Full review to come after it releases. 5 Star review
Beth's love life is filled with heartbreak and despair. She is tired of getting her heart stomped on over and over again, and is finally looking forward to the new experiences, college brings her. But.. she isn't looking forward too is seeing David.
Her brother's best friend.
AKA her bodyguard.
Beth has a major crush on David, and doesn't know that he has harboring feelings for her as well. But add in some drama, suspense, and danger..... these two have to face a far greater threat, to move forward. Letting go of the past and moving on, and finally admit their feelings for one another.
In Pieces by Danielle Pearl is not just another college romance, but so much more. It was breathtaking from start to finish.
I haven’t been in the mood for reading romance these past few months and find myself starting something but never following through because I decide to dive into a thriller or fiction to satisfy my reading mood. I had In Pieces sitting on my kindle for some time before I took the plunge and I am so glad I did. In Pieces wasn’t just another book in the New Adult genre, it was jammed pack with goodness. Not once was I bored or felt the pace of the story line was slow. I was thoroughly engaged from the beginning to the end. There was a perfect balance of romance, angst and a splash of suspense to keep my “genre-funk” wrapped up in it enough to read the book in two nights.
Lately I find myself getting bored with New Adults, or just romance in general because the stories are not unique or they are not dark, twisted, too much/too little sex or even funny enough. However, In Pieces provided just enough of a little bit of everything that keeps me turning the pages. The author did a wonderful job in balancing so many different things happening in this book without making the reader feel overwhelmed, lost or left without satisfaction on any area that was touched on.
Overall, I completely enjoyed In Pieces and am looking forward to her next book. The author definitely brings something special to each book she writes and I am excited for more to come.
I've heard Danielle's words were unequivocally moving, but I never expected the emotions they would evoke from me. The subject matter in this story is tough, a subject most shy away from, but Danielle deals with them flawlessly.
I don't want to go into too much detail in regards to the story--I went in not knowing much and was completely blown away by both the story and Danielle's words. Just know you'll meet strength in the form of Beth, and unconditional love in the form of David. Two beautiful characters that shattered my heart at times and completely fell in love with.
In Pieces isn't your normal "brother's best friend" romance. It's deserves to be in a class all it's own. It's poignant, thought-provoking, fearless, most importantly...breathtaking. I can't wait for others to meet Beth and David!
Thoroughly impressed by this author. First book I have read by them and could not put it down. Highly recommend!!!
This quiet an interesting story.I enjoyed it but so many things happening that sometimes I couldn't keep up.This one was different from whatever I have read unique.I like the premise a lot.

In Pieces follows the story of Beth and David. 3 years ago, Beth's life was shattered by a boy that she thought she was in love with. At the time, her life felt like it was spiraling out of control and she was completely lost. Fast forward three years into the future, Beth is ready for college and a fresh start. The only thing she didn't plan on was having her brother's best friend as a personal bodyguard....David has always kept his distance from Beth because she is off limits. When he finds out that Beth is going to be attending his college, he wants nothing more to protect her. But Beth isn't quite the little girl he remembers. Nope. Beth is all grown up....
Overall, In Pieces was a quick and easy read for me. I enjoyed the mystery of the story and liked that there were some chapters from the past thrown in. Those chapters really helped to get a clear picture of not only what happened to Beth, but also for David's underlying feelings. I enjoyed Beth and David together. I thought they had a great pull and their chemistry was very palpable. I couldn't wait to see if they would give into their feelings or not.
In Pieces is a good friends to lovers romance with a nice slow burn to it. I thought this story had some great twists and there were moments where I was definitely kept on my toes. There is a lot of drama in this story, but I think that is to be expected when reading an NA novel like this one. Overall though, I did enjoy the story-line and liked the characters. I enjoyed the romance between Beth and David, even though it was a slow burning one.
I really had a hard time connecting with this story and the characters, I wanted to like this book, but it just wasn't for me
In Pieces is the first book I've read by Danielle Pearl. I really enjoyed her writing style. She told the story in first person dual points of view. That's my favorite type of narration because it allows me to connect deeply with the characters. She also threw in some chapters set in the past that helped show how the characters had matured over the years.
My favorite thing about In Pieces was Beth and David's relationship. David was Beth's older brother's best friend. He was supposed to be her protector at college due to her weaknesses, but Beth was constantly pushing his boundaries. She didn't want to be seen as a little girl any longer. They both were harboring secret feelings for each other. I loved the way their relationship progressed from friendship to lovers.
The only problem I had with this book was that there was almost too much going on in it. Both characters had secrets in their pasts. That probably would have been enough to keep the story going on its own, but there was also a ton of other drama. There was the new stranger, David's frat friends, and a surprise twist toward the end. It was entertaining for sure, but just too much at times. I just wanted to focus on the love birds.
Overall, In Pieces was a fun, quick read. It had everything I would expect from a new adult romance and more. I liked Danielle Pearl's writing style so much that I would definitely pick up another of her novels. I would like to read the first book in this series.
