I’m coming into the series without having read the other books and while there were obviously some history there that I didn’t fully understand, the author did a great job of making it pretty easy to catch up.

Sasha and Ewan shouldn’t work because they are mortal enemies but somehow they do. As much as they try to resist, they can’t. The plot was interesting and I even liked that even though Ewan was one of the strongest men, he was different with Sasha.

The writing was strong. Good characterization. An entertaining read.

These books just keep getting better and better! Each new installment becomes my new favorite and this was no exception.

This book was the story of yet another mismatched pair. In this case, we follow Sasha's Romeo/Juliet love story as she finds out a berserker is her mate. Ewan, said berserker, is the sworn enemy of vampires (as all berserkers are) but he's more concerned with saving up enough money to abandon his "master" and his go nowhere cause. In order to amass a small, illegal, secret fortune, he's had to put himself in cage matches to the death, using his formidable berserker strength to win. It's during one such match that these two star crossed lovers meet. I guess "meet" is a strong word for the dirty, wicked time they have with one another, but ultimately it's this time spent together that gets them both in trouble.

Sasha has been on a dangerous spiral since abandoning her post as head of security. With no responsibilities, she's been pushing the limits of what she can handle until fate throws her a curveball. At first glance, she knows that Ewan is her mate, but that doesn't mean that this feud between their species magically goes away. What starts as a secret love affair eventually ends up pitting both sides against one another in an even bigger way than before. While navigating all the secrets, people trying to kill them, and their own reluctance to admit their feelings, these two really grew into an awesome couple. If this is what we can expect as the next few vampires pair up, I'm eager for more!

Sasha and Ewan, though mortal enemies, find themselves caught up in a forbidden attraction. Can they overcome everything stacked against them? An interesting addition to this series. I enjoyed it.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My opinions and reviews are my own.

This book was another great addition to The Last Vampire series.

I loved this exciting version of the forbidden love story. Sasha and Ewan were the most unlikeliest of mates. I mean this couple had so much to overcome that it seemed almost inmpossible that they would work things out. First of all, they were mortal enemies since way back when the Berserkers nearly wiped out the entire Vampire breed. Now, with this book we found Sasha, as a newly turned vampire, still acting out and Ewan, who was at his heart a good man but still an outcast Berserker, fighting against everyone to be together. Literally everyone was working to keep them apart ..... even themselves at times. What a brilliant matchup for this book.

I am really enjoying this series, so far. It's set in a unique world that is populated by so many different supernatural beings. It has the perfect balance of romance, action and humor. I absolutely love it.

I loved reading the amazing and exciting sixth book in the Last True Vampire series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy through NetGalley.
When Sasha, a vampire, meets Ewan, a berserker, she never imagined being tethered, mated to her sworn enemy. Ewan doesn't believe Sasha about being tethered to him; he just wants her until she's out of his system.
Read the highly recommended, enthralling and mesmerizing paranormal romance, and a must read love story of a vampire and a berserker.

I felt a little lost at times not having read other books in the series. Other times I felt like things were over-explained (I get it, vampires and berserkers don't like each other, already). There were interesting moments and Ewan was a great character, but overall the book fell a little flat.

This was an amazing read. Sasha and Ewan were fantastic together, even as they fight the pull between them, or as he fights anyway. Sasha knew from the minute her eyes locked with the berserker in that ring, her life as she knew it was over, whilst for Ewan to be joined with her kind was a curse of sorts. This book whilst it can be read alone, i felt i missed out on a few things as it was obviously part of a series and there were a few threads playing alongside this story. For me, although i felt a bit thrown out of sync by not getting into this series from the start , the author doesn't make it so you are lost throughout as there are glimpses and historical references to the past and the races as a whole and what has happened previously to keep the overall arc growing i would say.

A good read by itself and whilst I would recommend, I would advise it be read as part of the series to get the benefit.

Vampire, Sasha Ivanov is desperately searching for excitement. The existence she has is not what she was hoping for when she was turned. There is an emptiness she can't seem to fill, until she goes to an underground fight arena.
Berserker , Ewan Brun hates being virtually enslaved to the "King" of his clan. They fight all the time and live in poverty just to fund Gregor's personal vengeance. Our hero has been using his expertise to raise enough money to win his freedom. That is a very dangerous game.
There are a lot of very bloody fights and very sexy scenes in this story. Our characters have to battle the severe distrust of natural enemies. Can they survive when they have Vampires, Berserkers and others all against them ??
Very exciting paranormal romance.

The Wicked Vampire is the sixth installment in Kate Baxter’s Paranormal romance series Last True Vampire, published under St. Martin’s Press.
This series can be read as a stand-alone without feeling lost by the storyline. The plot was well written, the story of two souls, unlucky to be engrossed in each other, must find a way to keep their attraction a secret. Until one mishap on Ewan part brought the secret to the attention of his king. Now, Ewan must find some way to keep Sasha and the one she loves alive from the King; he, himself was trying to escape from. The chemistry between the two main characters of Ewan and Sasha was felt throughout the story. The story has a steady pace and will keep reader well entertained until the end. The part I enjoyed the most was when you thought the everything was lost, though there is discord in every family it is family that will have your back in any situation.
Though this series is slated to be a six book series, this book concluded like it had a lot of stories to tell. The Wicked Vampire is a book I will recommend to any readers of the Paranormal who enjoys being entertained and who is fond of strong female characters and a well-written storyline.

This is probably my least favorite book in this series so far and that all comes down to Sasha. I was hoping that she would redeem herself much like Saeed did for me, but she didn't. If anything, she made me hate her more. Sasha acted like a spoiled BRAT the entire book. Like a petulant teenager who only cared about themselves and thought that the world owed them everything. I couldn't stand it and it really took away a lot of my enjoyment. Ewan was okay, I didn't hate or love him, but I did like how he wasn't some mindless soldier in Gregor's war.

Pretty much this whole story is Sasha and Ewan either fighting or having sex. I am not exaggerating here. The main story only moves forward the most tiniest of bits and that's thru Christian's actions. Much to my disappointment, there was absolutely no Mikhail or Ronan.

I will definitely continue this series because I simply LOVE Mikhail, but I just hope that it starts moving forward more and gets entertaining again.

New to me author, Ms. Baxter blows me away with this story. When I see the word "wicked", I'm intrigued. Vampires are a plus to read about. This book was completely unexpected. I may have not have read the previous books, but now I want to read them all. This story was still quite easy to get into even without reading the prior ones. My guess is that it would be better with the background. Even without the background, it is clear how much Sasha hurt.

Sasha Ivanov has been the responsible one. She's been the loyal one who has always taken care of her master. She even held his coven together whilst he was out "searching" for himself... searching for a mate when Sasha was waiting right there for him. Having not read the previous books, I have to say, I'm all with Sasha. She's been taken for granted. It appears, good girls finish last. They are relegated as a "best friend" status forever. Or worse, a buddy. Fed up, Sasha takes a walk on the wild side when her master comes home with another woman. She cuts loose by from drinking to underground cage fights. Sasha is going to experience what she's missed out on. One thing she's always looked for was her soul mate. The last thing she expects is to find one... and one that is her sworn enemy. And why does he have to be so sexy hawt?

Ewan Brún is disenchanted and ready to leave his leader. As a Berseker, they used to be the most feared. Now they are just feral dogs without a master and with no money. Instead of respect, people scorn them and treat them like garage. How did it come down to this? Revenge. Ewan wants a better life and when he finds it, he doesn't want to let go.

This story is a souped up Romeo and Juliet in a bloody MMA style. I loved it. I enjoyed the violence and the recklessness between two lovers who have nothing to loose. They tried to do what they were bred for and after being taken for granted, these two coming together is a category 5 tornado of destruction. If only they would turn even. Unfortunately, they both are good and they even though there are probably better benefits going evil, they still side with good. Their chemistry is rough and erotic. They like it hard and bloody which is arousing for me. I also hurt seeing them together because Sasha is so damaged, she tears Ewan apart when all he wants to do is be there for her. He still has a heart and wants to care for her. She is in a "devil may care attitude" and keeps him like a dirty secret. For Ewan, it is trading one shitty master for another.

There are several conflicts in this story that are just depressing. It seems evil and the crazy hold the good cards whilst the good guys keeping holding the losing hand. I enjoyed the despair and gloom throughout the story and how hope seems to constantly be ripped away. Just when it feels like it is completely hopeless, Ms. Baxter is able to find a solution out. This keeps a reader on their toes and makes for a riveting read. This paranormal romance is recommended for readers who enjoy enemies to lover themes with complicated relationship.

Don’t let this being the sixth in series put you off reading this. I hadn’t realised it and haven’t read any of the earlier stories but I still found this a very enjoyable paranormal romance with quite a few twists to make it a delightfully different read.

In this paranormal existence, the powerful berserkers have eliminated most vampires and Sasha Ivanov is one of the few still surviving. She’s very much a loner, but still party girl out for the next thrill. When she discovers a supernatural fight club she discovers one of the fighters is her soul mate - Ewan Brún. The only problem is he is a berserker . . . . Their attraction is mutual, hot and forbidden! Can they resist each other? Can they trust each other?  They should be mortal enemies but will love find a way to bring them together and breakdown barriers that will thwart them?

What an exciting - and steamy - read this proved to be. The angst and turmoil of going against all they’ve been brought up to believe is portrayed brilliantly. The scene building is brought to life in the descriptions, making the reader feel like a witness to the unfolding events. This is a Romeo and Juliet type romance, bringing together two people from opposing forces. There’s much still to be resolved in future but this worked well as a standalone - I need to read the earlier books once I’ve got my tbr pile down to a more manageable size! Meanwhile, I’ve found another author I need to keep an eye out for!

I requested and received a copy of this novel, via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

This is a new to me author; just one question, where have you been all my reading life? Even though this is the sixth story in the “Last True Vampire” series I felt it could be read as a standalone. With that being said, I will be reading the other books in this series. This is a very well written story. I enjoyed the heroine Sasha, but who wouldn’t like a reckless, feisty, party girl vampire? Sasha is bored and decides to go to an extreme supernatural fight club only to find, Ewan, a berserker, sworn enemy, and her fated mate. The chemistry is off the charts with Ewan and Sasha. Which takes us on twists and turns filled packed with action, hot sexy scenes, and a dominate berserker. Can a vampire and a berserker, two sworn enemies learn to love or will they betray each other for the sake of their families? You will have to get this and read for yourself, you won’t be disappointed, I know I’m not. I give this book 4.5 stars.

***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review from St. Martin Press via NetGalley, and received a paperback from a Goodreads giveaway. This is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.***

THE WICKED VAMPIRE is the sixth book in Kate Baxter's Last True Vampire series. If this book were any hotter it would burst into flames. I'm thrilled that Kate Baxter finally has a story with a berserker hero. In Baxter's world, berserkers are raw, rugged, alpha warriors and most don't attempt to cross them. Since their leader, Ian Gregor, is a certifiable psycho, it makes sense that they have a hyper-aggressive mentality. Ewan Brun exemplifies all the berserker traits, and he is gobsmacked when he locks eyes with a beautiful vampire.

Having this story told from alternating perspectives is important because it helps readers see another side of Ewan. At the start of THE WICKED VAMPIRE, Ewan is presented to be an antihero, and the romance has a dark and dangerous edge. Kate Baxter maintains a magnificent tension between Ewan and Sasha throughout THE WICKED VAMPIRE which ratchets up the heat. Although this series is full of steamy encounters, THE WICKED VAMPIRE takes sexy to another level. A mix of obsession and desire dominate the beginning of this relationship. Just when Sasha just about resigns herself to a relationship based solely on physical attraction, Ewan comes to the realization that Sasha means everything to him. After this epiphany, both lovers try to figure out how to be partners and what that would mean. Assorted bad guys keep popping up at inconvenient moments to throw a wrench into the works. The happy ending in THE WICKED VAMPIRE requires a lot of heavy lifting from this hero and heroine.

THE WICKED VAMPIRE is a sublimely wicked and wonderful romance about a vampire and the warrior who loves her. This is a great story for readers who enjoy the "star- crossed lovers" trope. I hope to read stories about Sasha's vamp friends in future stories. I look forward to Kate Baxter's next paranormal romance.

This is a pretty standard paranormal romance was not my favorite just because it was pretty predictable but an easy read.

I always love reading Kate Baxter's vampires. She writes them very well. Each book in this series just gets better and better. One second you are wondering what's going to happen next, and then the next thing you know what you thought would happen didn't and what did happen surprises the crap out of you.

How could you not love that in a series?

I think we've all been waiting for a berserker to be a hero in a story. Come on, how could you not want them to have one. They are so bad...you just want them to realize that everything (life) isn't always black and white.

Because of the fact that I really wanted this story I couldn't wait for it yet I was also worried about how it was going to turn out. I shouldn't have worried. I ended up loving it! It's one of those books you want to go back and read again because as you were reading it you felt like you were on a fast moving train and knew you had to have missed something!

I know I didn't miss anything, just being a bit dramatic in my way of telling you have fast this book moved. You'll love both Sasha and Ewan and their struggles, more so for Ewan then Sasha, it's the berserker thing. I so didn't want this story to end I was enjoying it that much.

Of course it did end but I will say that even though I hated for that to happen the ending of the book cleared up so much for me. I'd love to mention more about it but...who wants to ruin a story for someone else. Just believe me when I say this, if you enjoy vampire romance this is a series you'll really enjoy.

My Thoughts:
This is the sixth book in the series and can be read as a standalone, but to fully enjoy the experience that is the Last Vampire series, start from the beginning. This is wild child Sasha Ivanov and Ewan Brun’s story and it is my favorite in the series so far. It has a Romeo and Juliet feel because the forbidden love between two mortal enemies, the berserkers (killing warlords) and vampires.

Sasha has been on the party circuit in LA since becoming a vampire. She had been a dhampir and agreed to become a vampire under Saeed, a man that Sasha respected and loved. She had hoped that he would grow to love her in return, however, it was not meant to be, Saeed left Sasha to take over the coven while he went in search of his true mate. Sasha was heartbroken. Once Saeed returned, Sasha had enough of being the responsible one and began doing what she wanted with whom she wanted. This got old and the excitement soon became boredom until Sasha’s friend Ani found a new adrenaline fix for Sasha. The underground fight club known as the Supernatural Thunderdome, fight to the death. Sasha was looking for something to shake her out of her comfort zone. She had no idea what she was in for!

Ewan Brun was a feared berserker warlord and he was currently undefeated in the underground fight circuit. He didn’t need weapons to defeat his opponent, he was the weapon. He was fighting to not only blow off steam but to stash money, so he could get out from under the thumb of the head of the berserkers, Ian Gregor, the most powerful and crazy of all. He was tired of living in poverty as Gregor took all the money for his cause and provided the men with a place to live and food. If you wanted to call it that. They have been fighting for centuries to eradicate the world of vampires, as the vampires had ordered that the females of the berserkers be destroyed, thus they had no mates. Ewan has long since lost interest in Gregor’s vendetta.

Sasha entered the Thunderdome and she immediately drew attention. She was sure she was the only vampire there and enjoyed the attention. The next match was about to start, and she watched as a formidable fae entered the cage to a round of cheers. Then the crowd went silent as the opponent entered the cage and Sasha’s throat went dry and burned with thirst. She starred from the toe to head and met the cold stare of a huge, beautiful man with auburn hair and golden eyes that turned dark when connecting with Sasha. Then a force hit Sasha so hard it took her breath. She gasped for breath as her soul was returned to her. This phenomenon only happened when you are tethered to your mate. How could this happen? They were enemies but there was no mistaking what just happened. She was tethered to a berserker!

Ewan was taking on yet another opponent that he had to make look like he had to work at defeating, to allow for more bets to be made to bring in more money. Ewan entered the Thunderdome and a female voice caught his attention and then he saw her. His gut knotted, and a thrill pasted through him. Ewan’s opponent took advantage of his distraction and went after him. Ewan shook out the cobwebs and put the female out of his mind to concentrate on his opponent. To hell with dragging this fight out. He had to get to the female! So, he turned to battle mode and defeated his opponent.

Thus, began the story of Sasha and Ewan. I don’t want to get into any more of the story. There was a lot of wise crack comments and banter, some disagreements, some very intense feelings and hot sex! Some epic battles with demons and intrigue as the story continues to unfold. I absolutely loved Ewan! He was an intense alpha and he didn’t understand all the feelings that he was feeling. He was evolving as he was falling in love with Sasha and Sasha just wanted to love someone and be loved. There were misunderstandings and missed opportunities. Their journey was not an easy one, but was oh so enjoyable from the reader standpoint!

If you like a wildly wonderful paranormal romance, then give this book a try, I highly recommend it!

The book was action packed and very fast paced. I enjoyed it a lot. It was obviously not the first in the series and there are several open plot lines at the end so more books to come. Because I hadn't read any of the other books in the series, it took a little while to understand the various supernatural beings and how they interplay. The story itself though was very original and enjoyable!

Review:

This is definitely an opposites attract story.

Mortal enemies, berserker, Ewan and vampire, Sasha tether at first sight. What comes after that is a whirl-wind romance of trying to overcome themselves and just about everyone else to find a HEA. The story is filled with action as everyone is fighting and manipulating others to take care of their own agendas.`The one thing I have to say is that there are so many characters in this story you really have to pay attention to keep up. Also, I would highly recommend reading the series in order to help with your reading enjoyment and the continuing story line. As for Sasha and Ewan, I loved reading about their trying to come to terms with their mating and their feelings for each other. They are super hot together and the intimate scenes really heat up the page.

Not sure whose story is up next but cannot wait to find out.

Suspense and action with romance and drama. My favourite kind of paranormal story. This is book 6 but don't be afraid if you have not read the first 5 stories as this is a standalone. I do recommend that you read them all to get the full scope of what is happening. Sasha and Ewan's relationship is not an easy one. She is a vampire. He is a killer of vampires. Will they be able to overcome this obstacle?
