Another exceptional paranormal by Ms. Anderson. Excellent storyline continuation. Loved it!
Another installment in this series, this time we get the Alpha Fox Reese's story also known as Coop to his friends and previous readers. Reese is the lone fox in the town and is keen to find a mate.
As it happens fate steps in with a helping hand and delivers Jo to his shed. Jo has been living in a Witch's commune for nigh on twenty years after a traumatic rape. She is excommunicated by her coven when it appears she is using dark magic to grow younger.
On the run from a dark shadow in the woods, she chances upon Reese's shed, however her deep fear of men in general sends her into a panic even as Reese tries to calm her. As he explains to her that she is rejuvenated and will need an Alpha male in order to survive the next full moon, her disbelief pushes her to try a spell which does not go to plan.
With this story I applaud the author in taking it slow in getting to the sex between the characters and her approach to getting Jo to a point where she could be touched. However there were instances where I could not believe Jo naivety and her disbelief in the paranormal when she was happy to believe in magic and goddess etc. It was a bit like hold up lady,.. ya got to give me something here.
Anyhow, all things considered it was a good story, a popping up of previous characters, an unsolved mystery and a continuation in another city.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review this story.
Have you found a home yet? Jo is so lost and scared as she knows that something is after her and it has really scared her but she has no where to go. She has found somewhere to hide for awhile but the owner of the house scares her. But the little fox seems to be feel her pain and he helps her but that is until he finds out that it is the scary big owner of the house. Reese knows that he has to protect her and he has realized that she isn't only a witch but a juvie and she is about to need a mate. Reese won't force himself on her but he needs to protect her from the other shifters in the town. Jo doesn't want to believe what she is been told as she is only a witch and she will never shift like they think. But they have even bigger problems coming, someone wants Jo and they won't stop until they take her. But Reese won't allow that to happen, he was hoping that she would accept him as her mate but she doesn't want him but that doesn't mean that he still can't look out for her. Can he save her this time before it is too late and he loses his mate? Will Jo get the chance to tell him that he was all that she was looking for? Another great book in the series very intense storyline. I glad to see some of the other characters in this book. They are all doing well even Fiona.
I'm really enjoying this series, it's different to other shifters.
Jo is a witch and finds herself cast out due to her youthful changes. Is it black magic or something else...or is it just a conspiracy?
Reece lives in Cougarville and is a fox, an interesting one who can be huge or tiny. He finds Jo and takes her in, but she's terrified of men due to her past. Even though Jo was 40 she'd lived a sheltered life and was quite innocent. She's in denial and disbelieves the whole shifter and 'juvie' story she's been told.
I loved the tale that was woven here, the community spirit and the connection between Reece and Jo. There was a lot happening for them to come full circle and find love. I highly recommend this book.
3.5 Stars Stone Cold Fox is book three in the Cougarville series.
I like this story, Reece was a great character and although I struggled with Jo at time I still think she was a good match for Reece. Overall, I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more.
The Alpha shifters of Cougarville are dominant, protective, and ready to rumble if their special lady friends are menaced. And if their special lady friend is fighting the pull of attraction between them, they still do everything they can to make sure their Juvie is safe.
Which brings us around to Jo and Reese. She was forced into her rejuvenation without having any knowledge of shifters and their ilk. While that might have been problematic, her magical know-how keeps her safe until she gets to Cougarville, the one place where there are people who can explain what's going on. Actually, I might be exaggerating a bit. There are other places. Wolfish places. But that's another story for another day.
For all he's a man who can shift into a beast, Reese is a little disbelieving of Jo's claims of magic. He believes she believes she can do things, but he's not convinced it's anything more than that. Until, you know, THINGS HAPPEN. AND THEN MORE THINGS HAPPEN. (Do I smell a setup for a new series? I *hope* so!)
A little dark, a lot of sexy, and plenty of fun, those Courgarville shifters are a-okay. They fight for the things they believe in just as hard as they love. *thumbs up*
I like the unique concept to this shifter series and I quite enjoyed book 1, but I'm not sure this series is for me. I love the alpha shifters in these books but the heroines in book 2 and this one just pushed away too much to enjoy the book. They pushed to a point that it got way over the top. These last two books also went down a darker road than the first. I'm a bit bummed because I really like the Alpha she has planned for book 4. I'm just not a fan of the overall plot of the series. ARC provided by NetGalley.
Jo is a witch driven from her coven and who finds herself in Cougarville. Unlike the prior books in the series, not much detail is given on her rejuvenation process- she simply is transformed to her younger self by the time the events in the book start. Jo has a tragic backstory and has no reason to trust men.
Reese is shapeshifter, and when he shifts, he is a fox. Presumably, since a fox isn't very intimidating, the author gave him the ability to change the size of his fox from tiny to impressively huge. His fox claims Jo.
The backstory continues of the experiment being carried out to make more women who can rejuvenate.
This book is easily better than book 2 and sets up for an enjoyable series to carry forward.
Welcome back to Cougarville! Stone Cold Fox is the story of Reese (the fox shifter/auto mechanic) and Jo, the Juvie/Wiccan. This series is a bit strange but I totally love it!
Jo is a Wiccan practitioner who was kicked out of her coven because they thought she was using dark magic to appear younger. Turns out, she is just a Juvie (if you have read the previous 2 books, you understand this! If not, they do explain it a bit in the story). However, she has had a difficult past when it comes to men and she is extremely distrustful. Reese eventually assures her he means her no harm; then he discovers she is a Juvie.
Reese is one of the characters in town I have wanted to know more about. He is a gentle giant of sorts and a bit of a loner. Also, he is an auto mechanic which I love because my husband is an auto mechanic too! Reese knows just how to approach Jo so that she feels safe with him. His fox really wants him to claim her though! Reese is an alpha fox, but he is so gentle with Jo in order to make her feel safe. Its very romantic!
Jo, like the other girls who have recently rejuvenated, is a stranger character. She is more able to accept the whole 'shifter' thing since she is a witch, but she refuses to accept the idea that she carries the shifter gene. Her mistrust in men started when she was 19, and since that time she has lived in a womens' only coven so that she felt comfortable. She thinks men are evil and will simply take what they want from her (because that has been her experience!). I thought Anderson handled this well as a plot device. Jo is rightfully skeptical of men and her responses to men when she interacts with them are expected of a woman who has been assaulted in the past. Anderson doesn't simply use this as a fly by night device; she develops the character of Jo in a way that the reader can truly believe this woman has been assaulted. She doesn't over do it for dramatic effect either, which I think is very important when dealing with this type of sensitive plot device.
The villain in this is a blend of a previous villain and a witch from Jo's past. The villainous plan is the same-trying to harness the power of rejuvenation for money. Its a fairly small part of the story; most of the book focuses on the relationship and Jo coming to terms with her new reality.
Stone Cold Fox is part shifter story with a dash of fated mates and a bit of magic that I wish I had (rejuvenation!) that create an enjoyable escape! The Cougarville series won't be a hit for everyone; but, if you like your PNR to be a bit different and a bit lighter, I think you will enjoy the series. Anderson also gives you LOTS of steamy scenes that lead up to the mating. While Anderson creates tension and dangerous situations, the stories still have a lighter feel than some darker, twistier PNR books.

I received a free copy via NetGalley; this is my honest review.
- I liked the story and I liked the end. I'm going to repeat what I wrote the last time: The story really finishes at the last chapter; the epilogue brings you to the next book - and the next hero - and contains a really nice cliffhanger (you know, not too much of a cliffhanger to despair about it).
- I was a bit uneasy at seeing we had a witch in this story - the other stories in the series contained an h with a regular job, a regular life - and didn't really see why the author would be putting word-to-word incantations in there and not just once - I didn't think it fit.
- There's a lot of guilt on Jocasta's side and at the end it was a bit annoying. Reese also did everything to put her at ease around him and I didn't think she made any effort about it on her side.
- It's funny, it's sad, there's a bit of suspense at the end, and in between you get fright, disdain, shame, desire, happiness, joy, and hope.
Happy reading!
I received a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Reese lives in a small town Cougarville, a mix of shifters and human. He is a mechanic and has his own shop. He has seen several of his good friends find their mates and as happy as he is for them, he wonders if he will ever find his mate.
One evening he goes home and finds a woman in his shed. She is terrified and as much as he tries to reassure her that he won't harm her, she is still frightened. Jo is a witch and had sent away from her home because she was accused of black magic, which is a lie. She feels she has nothing and no one.
After using his animal, a fox, to help Jo feel at ease he finally convinces her that she can safely stay
at his home. This is when he realizes she is in "rejuvenation" and her hormones are calling to his animal! She knows she feels something for Reece but an attack she experienced years ago make her fear men.
Jo never knew about shifters so she doesn't really want to believe how she is basically "in heat" and if she doesn't "breed" during the next full moon, she can die. Other forces are at work here though, and could change the outcome.
Will they discover what lurks in the woods and it's connection to Jo? Can Reese keep them both safe?
Will they find the love they deserve?
I did enjoy this story. Jo went through so much as a young woman and it made such an impact on her life. She was alone and found a mentor who taught her so much about her witch. After her mentor passed away she was lied about by another witch, which led to her being sent away.
Reese is such an awesome guy, his patience with Jo is amazing and between her distrust of men and with the hormones she is giving off, it is quite the task for him.
Fiona is quite a character. She has an apothecary in town and has been there for so long that no one really knows how old she is. She helps explain many things to Jo. She has quite an interesting story herself.
Cougarville has many kinds of shifters and it was nice to see the support they gave one another. This was a good read!
Read the first two books in the Cougarville series so was excited by the opportunity to read the next book in the series. Sadly I was very disappointed in the approach the author used by dragging the beginning when setting up that Jo, a witch, not trusting Reese. I get her reluctance but think it was overblown (and having this experience myself I know). Other than that, upon further reading felt it was below the other two in the series.
