A Christmas Flower is the latest holiday offering by author Bryan Mooney. Set in River Dale, New Hampshire and centered around the River Dale General Hospital and RFD 17 fire station, this is a story that explores discovery of self, soul, and spirit.
It is the eleventh hour and Dr. Beth Harding, who took over the reigns from her late mother, Dr. Sarah Harding, is fighting the closing of the hospital. Meeting new regulations will cost about two million dollars the hospital does not have. Beth and her colleague Dr. Drake Corrigan have developed a way to fight hospital acquired infections with much success. If the state board will just listen to them and assist they will be able to meet the requirements.
Chief Bruce Devlin is caught in a fire set by an arson and barely escapes with his life, although he is just hanging on. Smoke jumper, veteran, and native son Logan Mitchell returns to River Dale upon learning of his mentor's close call.
Thus sets the stage for a lovely story. Within the tale there are other residents who find themselves in the hospital, their touching stories adding to the importance of the telling. There are a variety of threads interwoven to bring about a rich tapestry for the season. It is a Christmastime story that explores serious social issues such as lack of funding in healthcare and for first responders. With a cast of rich characters and a snowy New England setting, this is a holiday story you will not soon forget. I do recommend this book.
This was an excellent book to get me wishing for snow, a tree, and holidays! A touching romance and a great story. Well done!
A Christmas in New Hampshire is a little different for firefighter Logan who is home from California. Beth is trying to juggle the holiday festivities with the fact that the hospital in town is going to close. As the local doctor she is fighting but the board seems unwilling to listen. Logan and Beth grew up as close as brother and sister but will a Christmas miracle save them and the hospital? Great sweet story.
A beautifully written book about the tragedies and miracles that happen daily in a hospital. Strong characters, a believable story line for the most part. A good read.
A nice easy read that keeps the plot going nice description for the background to Christmas and family traditions would like to see a sequence to this book very enjoyable read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to like this book. It isn't that I didn't like it necessarily so much as I couldn't have cared less.
I went into this thinking this would be a light, magical read...where the spirit of Christmas not only helped to save the hospital that Beth cared so much about but also awakened the blossom of Beth and Logan's friendship into more.
What I got was no sparks, confusing flashes of patient point of views setting up why they landed in the hospital (seriously, why didn't they just briefly cover this during the doctor rounds?), an unnecessary fiance [SPOILER!!] that just up and decided to part as friends (even after he received a gigantic promotion from his boss - who all but threatened to get rid of him if he didn't convince Beth to accept the job offer from his company) [/SPOILER!!]...and an unknown arsonist causing fires to add tension to the story but wasn't even resolved.
Or maybe it was. I was skimming and could have missed it.
Overall, a disappointing read. Bonus points for having an absolutely stunning cover, though.
I thought this book was a mess. There were way too many characters to keep track of, too many side stories, too much detail about firefighting, too much detail about the benefits of copper to combat bacteria. The hero and heroine were never in the same place long enough for us to see the sparks between them - and the few times they were together we got no details, e.g. "they talked for another two hours". The relationships - between any two individuals in this book - were unnatural and dialogue was stilted. I love a good Christmas romance and I wanted to like this one, I really did.
I had a hard time getting to the end of this book. I was expecting a great Christmas story but it just wasn't there for me.
This was a good story. Not too sure about Larry though. Wish we could have found more about Claire. Didn't see the sad parts coming.
A beautifully written book. I love that it focused on real-world struggles in addition to the romance. The story came alive in my head and I actually felt like I was a part of it. A very sweet, quick read.
