I've enjoyed many of Charlaine Harris' books but had somehow missed this series. Now I have to go back and read all of the Aurora Teagarden books!

Thank you to the NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review Sleep Like a Baby. This is a book that I was given the opportunity to read and review by NetGalley quite some time ago. I had started reading it, but then stopped as life became more busy. As I picked it up again, my interest was piqued because the protagonist, Aurora (Roe) was a first-time mother and I am about to be a first-time mother.

It’s interesting because I read almost all of the Sookie Stackhouse series by this author, twice in fact, years and years ago. It was a series that I enjoyed at the time. However, when I tried to pick it up again as a summertime re-read recently, I could only make it to a third of the first book before quitting. It’s funny how book interests change. Because of this, I was a bit worried of reading another one of Charlaine Harris’ books, but decided to give this one a try.

Unfortunately, this book was not for me…

Though this is the tenth book in the Aurora Teagarden series, I don’t feel readers need to read the first nine books in order to understand what is happening. This is a good aspect of the book and helped me to understand the main characters and the plot.

One of my least favorite aspects of the book, though, was the writing. Though there was a murder and a missing person, there was zero suspense. I didn’t feel excited or really wanted to continue reading through most of the book. At first, I didn’t understand why was the book written this way, but then I realized it was a cozy mystery…cozy mysteries are not for me. I found this out when I read a few Agatha Christie books…Though this was probably own fault when I requested this book at the time since the cover clearly looks like a cozy mystery.

Along with the zero-suspense plot, the other aspect of the writing that I did not enjoy was how mundane every single scene was explained. For example, there were chapters and chapters of how Aurora was sick with the flu, and how challenging that is with a baby. Yes, I can imagine that would be challenging, but I really don’t need to read the same plot point over and over again. This is especially true when it doesn’t move the plot along. This happened in more than one occasion, which was a bit frustrating. I also found the writing to be “tell, not show”. Again, this is something that I don’t enjoy. I would rather be shown what the characters are feeling and experiencing rather than just telling me.

The ending…again, it’s a cozy mystery, so the ending was just ridiculous and did not satisfy me at all.

Overall, though I’m sure there are many out there who would enjoy this type of story, it is not for me. Therefore, I do not plan on reading more of this author’s books, unfortunately. I don’t know…perhaps those who enjoy cozy mysteries and other books by Charlaine Harris will enjoy this.

"In Sleep Like a Baby, the latest installment of the #1 New York Times Bestselling Charlaine Harris’s Aurora Teagarden series, Robin and Aurora have finally begun their adventure in parenting. With newborn Sophie proving to be quite a handful, Roe’s mother pays for a partially trained nurse, Virginia Mitchell, to come help the new parents for a few weeks. Virginia proves to be especially helpful when Robin has to leave town for work and Roe is struck with a bad case of the flu.

One particularly stormy night, Roe wakes to hear her daughter crying and Virginia nowhere to be found. Roe's brother Philip helps her search the house and they happen upon a body outside… but it isn’t Virginia’s. Now, not only does she have a newborn to care for and a vulnerable new marriage to nurture, Roe also has to contend with a new puzzle -- who is this mystery woman dead in their backyard, and what happened to Virginia? This heart-pounding and exciting next installment of the Aurora Teagarden series will leave fans happy and hungry for more."

It's always a good day when there's a new Charlaine Harris book!

Thanks to Netgalley, to charlaine Harris and publisher for this ARC. Ive read all the Aurora Teegarden series which is one of my favorites by Miss Harris. This story did not disappoint.. Aurora is always so interesting character and now with the addition of husband and a baby makes her even more so. I always recommend the series for someone that likes a light read with a bit of mystery thrown in.

I love Charlaine Harris and I loved Sleep Like a Baby. It was more of what I've come to expect from a Charlaine Harris book, great characters, wonderful story, and an enjoyable read.

Aurora Teagarden is back! It has been a few months since her baby was born and her husband needs to go out of town. She has a bad flu so they get a nurse to stay over. When a woman ends up dead in the yard and the babysitter disappears, Roe has to figure out what happened. ARC from NetGalley.

This is the tenth book in the Aurora Teagarden mystery series. It can be read as a standalone, however. I have not read the other books, and this one made sense to me. However, it was not exactly what I was expecting. I have heard wonderful things about this series, but I found the book to drag at times with a bit of overdetailing. The murder almost seemed like an afterthought, at times. Ro is a likable character, and she did make the story enjoyable.

This cozy mystery was a bit different from some I have read, as the characters seem a bit more sensible when it comes to police involvement. Perhaps that is due to the fact that the heroine is a new mother. Relationships, as well as caring for a newborn, seem to be a bit more of the focus than solving this murder. The pace was slower than I was anticipating. While this wasn’t my favorite book in this genre, I would be willing to give another one in this series try.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley, but I wasn’t required to leave a positive review.

Another good book in the series. Easy, enjoyable read. I really like the lead female character.

SLEEP LIKE A BABY just didn't do much for me. I don't know what happened, but if this is the new Aurora Teagarden, I won't be reading much more.

There was a mystery in SLEEP LIKE A BABY, but my goodness was it boring getting to the answers. We get more information on how Aurora feeds, changes and takes care of her baby than solving any mystery that was supposed to be included in the story. I get it, she's a new mom, but if I wanted to read about the care and feeding of a baby, I would have picked up a parenting book.

There really isn't much more I could possibly say about SLEEP LIKE A BABY, because not much happened between the front and back cover. Yeah, I was disappointed too.

This book starts with Aurora and Robin having their baby Sophie and adjusting to parenting. When Robin goes away to an awards event Aurora is stuck with a flu and Virginia Mitchell is helping Aurora out while Robin is away. Things go fine at first until one stormy night when Aurora awakes to a crying Sophie and finds that Virginia is missing and someone is dead in her backyard. Aurora finds her deep in mystery that the dead woman in her backyard isn't Virginia and with Robin away Aurora wonders who killed the woman and why?

I love Aurora and her detective skills. It was especially nice to see her and Robin adjust to parenting and see Roe make some decisions she needed to make in life. Like her job at the library. We also got to watch her stumble around with the murder and missing nanny sitter. What makes Aurora a great character is she is not perfect and has her flaws and in this case a nasty flu and fever which makes her more real.

I was definitely surprised by the ending but was glad no one was seriously hurt when the mystery was solved. Aurora and Robin are solid characters that bring such an adventure to the mysteries they are in that you feel yourself pulled in and unable to let go until everything is solved and Robin and Aurora are back to parenting their new baby!

I'm really glad that the author circled back to this series. I find these characters amusing and they are almost better now that they have been updated (technology changes a lot). Obviously the characters themselves haven't aged. Which is totally fine, because who wants to age? There is a lot going on in this one. Aurora has just had a baby and is coming down with the flu just as her husband needs to go to a conference and hopefully win an award. They bring in a babysitter who subsequently disappears in the middle of the night and obviously don't forget the dead body in the backyard. These aren't supposed to be serious or scary, so the overabundance of plot elements works somehow. It sucked me right in and was certainly entertaining. I definitely recommend it. Read the whole series if you like this kind of thing.

Charlaine Harris continues her Aurora Teagarden mysteries in Sleep Like a Baby. Her husband is at a Mystery convention, Aurora has a new baby, but she is sick with flu, her nurse has disappeared and she has a dead body outside in the yard. Whodunit? Where is the nurse? Suddenly neighbours look suspicious and the police are investigating her friends and husband. Complex cosy with lots of surprises. Read and enjoy.

Number 10 in the Aurora Teagarden mystery series, this books plods along with unnecessary details (color of her reading glasses, breastfeeding FOREVER) but somehow I can't put it down. A dangling msytery that seems more of a nuissance than a nailbiting mystery but again I keep reading. I think the appeal is that Ro is, after book 10, basically a well liked friend and you just really want to visit. Great read for a time suck that you'll enjoy. Not mind blowing but enjoyable. I'll keep reading...

This series of cozy mysteries by Charlaine Harris is quite different from the Sookie Stackhouse novels. I have to say it is refreshing to read a cozy without a love triangle, a with a main character actually being sensible about the police and putting herself in danger. In this installment, Aurora Teagarden has recently had a baby, and she is dealing with being a new mother and a bout of the flu, while her husband is out of town. When someone ends up dead in her back yard, Aurora investigates. The mystery was fine, but really took second place to the family relationships. And that was logical, because with a new baby - everything else DOES take a back seat.

Roe Teagarden Crusoe is battling the flu while her author husband Robin (who didn't realize she was so sick because she insisted he go on) is at a mystery convention. She's got some great baby Sophie help in the form of Philip, her half brother and Virginia, the girl who helped out right after Sophie's birth. Now that Sophie is 2 months old, Roe comes down with a full blown case of fever, chills and aches. Trying to be a good mom, she plugs along feeding the baby and taking care of her until one night she notices that Virginia is nowhere to be found. In the back yard she and Philip discover a body but it's not Virginia. So where is Virginia and who killed this woman in Roe's back yard?

I really enjoyed this latest installment in the Aurora Teagarden series. To be honest, I have only read the first book (Real Murders) which I enjoyed but thought the murders were a little too well described in that book. This book was a breath of fresh air compared to book 1. The murder completely took place off stage, as per cozy protocol and there was little to no description. That suits me much much better than details! I seriously have to applaud the author for changing this up. I don't know if she kept the earlier murders so graphic but I love the story line and would love to find out when this nice changed occurred.

The characters in this book were enjoyable and I didn't really feel out of place even though I'd only read book 1. I did sort of wonder what had happened to some other characters but I'll find out as I read the series. I have to admit I first grew to love the Aurora story from the TV movies which led me to reading the books. I do realize that books are much different and way more detailed. I feel like there's a place for both. I really think Ms. Harris took her TV Aurora watchers into consideration when writing this book though.

Aurora's mom has changed a little bit and I love that she and John are so happily married. There's a little side story featuring John and it has a happy outcome. Philip has grown into a high school man and I enjoyed how awesome he is with baby Sophie and how patient he is for someone his age. Robin is just the man of everyone's dreams. He's kind, attentive and has his family's back. I'm looking forward to reading more about mystery solving with a baby or toddler in tow with this little family. But first I would love to get caught up with the rest of the series!

I received and read an ebook ARC of this from NetGalley and the publisher. I would like to thank them both for allowing me the opportunity to read and review.

I thought I was done with Charlaine Harris after finishing the debacle known as Sookie Stackhouse, but then we changed our T.V. provider and got the Hallmark Mystery Channel as part of the new package and I discovered that D.J. Tanner played the part of Aurora and like a crapload of these movies had been made and they often play on Sunday nights which is my most mind-spinny night of the week and when I can't sleep and … well, you get the picture.

Anywho, when I discovered these made-for-television gems of stories I’d read waaaaaaaay back when I just had to take a gander. So I watched . . . .

And watched . . . .

And watched . . . .

And … again, you get the picture. Now I’m kind of addicted to them and keep re-watching them like a pathetic nutcase (shut up, Ron). I even picked up #9 in the series after taking a looooonnnnnng hiatus. Then this one shows up on NetGalley (another addiction which I cannot quit) and well, hell, that’s like waving a baggie of meth in front of ol’ Jesse Pinkman. Especially when I found out ROE AND ROBIN HAD A BABY! and also ANOTHER DEAD BODY IN THE BACKYARD!

I really should know better at this point. These books are the literary equivalent of eating the entire McDonald's Value Menue. They aren’t “good” per se, but you still want to shove them in your face anyway. At this point Roe is like an old friend I don’t see very often and even though her stories of breastfeeding and the most recent color of reading glasses she purchased are going to bore the holy hell out of me, I still want to hear them. These books are all perfectly okay and a decent couple hour time suck. I guarantee if the next one gets dangled in front of me for free, I’ll read it too. I mean, really, who wants to eat healthy all the time anyway?

I was super excited about this book! I’m a big Aurora Teagarden fan and have been anxiously awaiting the newest book. It definitely did not disappoint. There were a few slow spots but it was easy to keep reading through and I finished it pretty quickly. It tied up loose ends and gave a good ending to the series.

This will be known to me as the Aurora Teagarden gets the flu book. I mean seriously, I've never seen any mom I know get this much help when they're sick, including bringing in a night nurse for the baby. Usually moms soldier on because you have no choice. This was like man-flu.

But it ends up backfiring, because Roe ends up with a dead woman in her backyard and a missing nanny. Robin is out of town, but still seems to be getting the side eye from the neighbors as to his involvement.

As Roe starts to recover from her illness, she starts trying to solve the mystery. In the meantime, she has a sudden illness in someone close to her, friends who seem to be acting a little strangely to her, and a teenaged brother with a girlfriend. Even putting in a security system seems to put them in more danger!

This was one of the better entries in the series. Sometimes I feel like I need an org chart to remember all of the characters from over the years. This was a sweet, easy read and I really enjoyed it.

Continuing the series with the same set of friends. Story moves and is light reading. Really need to read series in order.
