This book has been gaining a lot of popularity and I've seen it mentioned a number of places. But to be honest when I was about 50 pages into the book I was wondering how this book could possibly be so popular. The beginning of the book does get a tad repetitive and Vanessa sounds really whiny in the beginning, until the reader gets to the first twist and uncovers more of the story. I think that was my favorite part of this book was how at each twist and turn the reader gets another piece of the puzzle that will make up the whole picture. The description of the book didn't stand out to me until I read the book, the reader's perception is altered multiple times and it becomes harder and harder to know where the "truth" lies. Lies and truth co-mingle based on the character's perception and the reader's perception as well. While there were a couple of dry pieces to the story, overall I really loved the plot of this one and the facets of the story as the reader progresses through the book. This was a great book and I would most definitely recommend it!
A nice, suspenseful read with several plot twists. Thoroughly enjoyed. I would have liked a little more action or maybe some poetic justice at the end, but that's probably just me being bloodthirsty. Not a spoiler, but I found the relationship between the male lead and his sister to be chilling. Even though the author never goes into to great detail about it, something always feels off about they way they act when they are together. And that little thing at the end with the wedding ring... ewww. With that thought in mind, perhaps the male lead gets just what he deserves in the end after all.
The Wife Between Us was an interesting read, but I was thoroughly confused during "part one" (there are three). I should say that I thought I knew what was going on, but apparently had it all wrong. This happened a few times, I realized I could not think at any time that I was on top of the story because next thing I knew, something would happen that would change the story up for me. This is a book about relationships in the distant past, a marriage gone wrong, a new relationship, and more. This book did not have me "on the edge of my seat", but it was a good read that I really enjoyed.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for a review. Here is my review:
I figured out the "big secret" of this book pretty early on, although the different names were confusing. I did NOT see the ending in the epilogue, though!!
Vanessa is a young woman with secrets in her past who has moved to New York City to lose her old self and reinvent a new Vanessa. When she meets a wonderful man on an airplane trip, she thinks things are finally going her way. And they are, for a while. But there are red flags that she dismisses, and why do none of her friends or family like Richard?
This is a psychological good read, with enough mystery to keep me interested, even after the "secret" is revealed.
I really enjoyed this fast paced NYC novel. It’s part thriller, part women’s fiction and I loved the clothing details in the book. I did find it very similar to the last Mrs Parrish, which i also really enjoyed. I would absolutely recommend this book!
The synopsis for The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen says it all: "When you read this book, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are reading about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen's The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love. Read between the lies."
And that is about all you can say without introducing spoilers. And believe me, you don't want to know what's coming. Just start reading and enjoy the ride, and try to keep up. Nothing is obvious. You will say "Whoa!" out loud and go back several pages to try and figure out why you didn't see that coming. And that will happen again and again.
I received an ARC of The Wife Between Us from the publisher, and I have been recommending this book - strongly recommending it - to everyone I know since then. The unreliable narrator story seems to be the thing now, and I enjoy it, but it's getting a little old. Until The Wife Between Us. Is this narrator unreliable? Just who is the narrator? Should we like her or feel sorry for her or be afraid of her? The cast of characters is well-developed and fascinating, and your allegiance to and sympathy for them will bounce back and forth. What just happened? Who's good? Who's bad? What's the agenda? What don't we know? And again, just when you think oh yeah, I get it - WHOA!
The story is about marriage, kind of. There's The Husband. What a charmer, kind of. And The Wife, or should I say The Wives? The one who's been tossed aside, the one to-be. Who are they, really? And that's all I'm going to say about it. So much goes on and things happen so quickly and you just can't guess what will happen next. But it flows smoothly and makes sense in the end. I highly recommend The Wife Between Us. It will thrill you and surprise you and make you afraid for. . . for who? Read it now. You'll be glad you did and it will stay with you a long time.
4 stars
This is a rollercoaster book, where you don't know what is going to happen next. There are flashbacks interspersed with a present day narrative. The reader is initially led to believe that a marriage broke down due to alcoholism, but there are more layers of complexity revealed . I found it to be a compelling read with a satisfying ending and no loose ends.
There is some domestic violence, but you will like the ending.
Thanks to NetGalley, St.Martin's Press, and the authors for sending me this ebook.
I did guess one of the twists ahead of time, but this was still a great read and a compelling mystery.
While this wasn’t the book for me, I think those who enjoy a twisty psychological thriller will enjoy it. It flipped between women and it was a little difficult for me to keep them straight. It was a pretty good read though.
While I wouldn't classify this as mystery/suspense type of book, there are a few twists that surprised me at the end.
For me, the story got slow. It started out strong and I was eager to read it...then it slowed way down. I was bored, I wanted to quit reading but at the same time i needed to know and I kept expecting something big to happen...
If you like plot driven stories this one works, if you like to get really invested in the characters, this one might not, it's jumpy and I never found myself invested in any characters to really tug at my heart strings.
This book had so many twists that just when you thought you had it figured out, something else happened to prove you wrong. Loved it!
The description is truthful: You cannot make any assumptions. I read this book in 1 1/2 days because I could not put it down.

Thanks Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this for an honest review. This book was great. Loved the twists in this book. It's definitely one that you can devour easily.
I had heard all the hype about the twist in this book. There were actually a couple, but the first one is more of a gimmick than a true twist. I was drawn in by the narrator. I felt her pain from the first page. I liked how everything wrapped up in the epilogue. There was one question left that I was intensely dying to know that was never answered.
This is the first book I’ve read by the writing duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I really, really wanted to love it. The story was different. It was a slow burning story for sure. I did like story. The characters all had flaws, like a lot of flaws, and I always like flawed characters.
The beginning sucked me right in. It started off with a stalker and caught my attention right away. Then it just kind of fizzed out sadly for me. I see I’m in the minority here out of all the other reviewers. After the beginning it became a bit confusing on the characters. I believe that was intentional on the part of the author. But for some reader reviews, that was just confusing for them. It took me almost an entire month to get through the first 50% of this book because it was so slow moving and didn't hold my attention very well.
I liked this book, but didn't love it. The reason why is this... it took 50% of the book to get going. The last 50% of the book was pretty good (I'd give that part 4 stars). I know it's important for an author to "build up" the characters and backstory, but the first 50% of this book was filled with too much filler: things that were not really important. I also did not like how the author tried to confuse us with the two characters Vanessa and Nellie. Some said they thought this was an “aha moment”... but really, was the deception necessary? Maybe. It was a different twist for sure.
I recommend this book with reservations to anyone who enjoys a slow burning story with a psychological twist. (It’s kind of hard to categorize this book for me; I wouldn’t exactly call it a thriller, as the pace is slower.

Four and a half stars: A twisty thriller that will keep you guessing until the shocking conclusion.
Vanessa is struggling to put the pieces back after her promising marriage shattered. Now she suffers from insomnia, anxiety and jealousy. She is having trouble accepting that her thoughtful, caring husband, Richard, could so easily abandon her for a beautiful blonde named Nelly. Vanessa has taken to stalking Nelly. Meanwhile, Nelly is excited to be marrying Richard. Yet, she is plagued by the nagging fear that something isn’t quite right. She has been getting mysterious phone calls, and worse, she fears that someone is following her. Is there someone after her?
What I Liked:
The Wife Between Us is one of those twisty, suspenseful thrillers that you won’t be able to put down. If you like books thick with tension that keep you guessing until the end, this is one for you. Assume nothing, and what you think you know, you don’t!
What I loved about this one, is that all my assumptions were wrong time and time again. This is the type of book that turns upside down just when you think you are figuring it all out, and then once you have your feet on firm ground again, it upends. This one has so many shocking revelations and thrilling twists right up until the finale. Loved it.
I was surprised time and time again by the characters. One character I thought I didn’t like, turned out to be completely different than what I thought. Prepare yourself for chameleon characters. Try to keep an open mind.
This book is taut with suspense. I honestly had a hard time putting it down. It immediately sucked me in with its compelling story line, and then when the twists started around the half way point, I was unable to stop reading. If you want a book that you can’t book down, look no further.
The ending draws to a satisfying close. I was surprised at the final twist, but pleased that it settled out without leaving anything unanswered or open ended.
And The Not So Much:
I enjoyed most of the twists and turns, but I have to admit a couple of times, certain things were a little far fetched. For me, the final reveal was a bit too much, and I thought it was unnecessary.
I wished that there was more information on the first wife. There is an interesting tidbit dropped at the end, but after all that, I wanted no more, I wanted the details.
I was also bothered by Richard’s sister’s behavior at the end. I felt there was a back story for her behavior, and I wanted to know more.
The Wife Between Us is a thrilling and exciting suspenseful thriller that will keep you up well past your bedtime. I found this to be a compelling read, and I love that every time I thought I had it figured out, the book threw another twist at me. If you are on the hunt for a terrific, twisty read, look no further, this is it. This book will be big.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review.
This book pulled me in from the beginning, it was so suspenseful and I read through it in just a couple days. I will admit that some of the content was confusing and a bit choppy but it was all explained in the end. I was surprised more than once by a plot twist, the author did an excellent job at drawing the reader's attention to one thing while also disclosing important information for later on in the book. I would rate this book a 5/5
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks is a masterfully written thriller. Have you ever read a book where clues are so seamlessly woven into the plot that you don't even see them until later? This book is just like that. With in depth characterization and masterful use of voice, this book explores emotions thoroughly. If you love thrillers of any kind, you would love this book. Just when you think you know what is happening, you find out that you are completely wrong. Amazing book and a wonderful read! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher. These opinions are entirely my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy of The Wife Between Us.
I do like an unreliable narrator in a story, and the "reveal" at the end of Part One was a surprise. In fact, I had to process this twist before proceeding with the rest of the book. The remaining twists were not as surprising and in some ways maybe a disappointment. (This was the reason for 3 stars and not 4.) Some of the characters and storylines felt arbitrary and somewhat unnecessary with only loose connections to the main plot. I would, however, recommend The Wife Between Us to others who enjoy thrillers because these hang-ups of mine may not impact other readers.
I've found that a lot of domestic fiction lately has become repetitive and follows similar formulas about the relationships between women. THE WIFE BETWEEN OF US is a different story. The first twist comes halfway through the novel and was so sudden that I reread the previous 5 pages 3 times to try to make sense of what I had just read. The novel keeps twisting from there, keeping you just on the edge of your seat until its shocking resolution.
I was given a free copy of this novel by Netgalley in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
I loved, loved, loved this book. Just when I thought the twists were over, they kept coming! The main character is one you will love and hate, depending on how far along you are in the story. It was a great escape during a very busy time at work. :)
