THE WIFE BETWEEN US is hard to describe without giving massive spoilers. We have potentially unreliable narrators describing both the end and the beginning of marriage to one man, Richard. The point of view switches between the female characters, all offering their perspective on Richard and the dissolution of one of his marriages as he is entering into another. Is the story simply one of a jealous wife? Or is it of a woman stealing a man’s husband? Secrets will be revealed as we uncover just who is the victim in THE WIFE BETWEEN US.
I didn’t really engage with any of the characters but that didn’t stop me from turning the pages of THE WIFE BETWEEN US to see what would happen next! Some of the scenes were quite painful to read, particularly as Vanessa becomes more and more obsessed, even to the point of destroying her own world. In fact, the scenes were so heartbreakingly painful I nearly ditched the book entirely. However, things take a dramatic turn in Part Two of THE WIFE BETWEEN US- and that’s where the real story underlying everything is revealed.
I still have mixed feelings about THE WIFE BETWEEN US, as I didn’t like many of the choices the characters made. However, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen do a marvelous job at making even the craziest of actions understandable. The blurb for THE WIFE BETWEEN US says “assume nothing” and that’s a good rule of thumb to follow throughout the story line.
Fans of stories with unreliable narrators where the readers must question everything will relish THE WIFE BETWEEN US. If you liked GONE GIRL or THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN, then THE WIFE BETWEEN US just may be your next thrilling read.

THE WIFE BETWEEN US by Sarah Pekkanen was a good book, a very good book; it could have been a great book but at times it was confusing in it's attempt to throw the reader off track. Perhaps I feel this way because I am one of those readers who does not mind if I figure out the twists and turns I still enjoy a story well told.
There were some surprises, some twists, nothing shocking but that is ok. The book has it's share of interesting characters, some their motives are clear, some they are not.
A definite read for anyone who enjoys a good domestic suspense novel. It encompasses dating, marriage and sibling relationships. You will not be sorry for choosing this book to read.
4.5 Stars!
The Wife Between Us was an absolutely thrilling read with amazing characters and clever twists.
This book is one of those ones that’s hard to review as giving even a minor detail away could spoil the story. So I will at its’ core, The Wife Between Us focuses on a woman whose husband has left her for a younger woman. It follows a woman who becomes obsessed with her replacement and is determined to stop her ex-husband from remarrying.
The Wife Between Us is very much a character driven story and the characters are where this book shines. I’d say the main character in the story is Vanessa who is the woman whose husband left her. Through Vanessa we meet all of the other characters and her story is the one that very much drives everything forward. There was only one character, Richard’s sister Maureen, who I wish we got to know more about. All of the other characters are very well fleshed out with great backstories and motivations.
The writing in this book is fantastic and easily pulls you in. The book has an addictive quality to it and I read the book from start to finish in one sitting needing to know what was going on. The authors do an amazing job tying together the different storylines and weaving together the lives of the characters involved. The further along we got in the story the harder it was to tell who was lying and who was telling the truth. There were several fantastic twists and the tension that builds up between events was very well done.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed The Wife Between Us as there was a lot of hype surrounding this book. In the end though it really is a fantastic read and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a great domestic thriller with clever twists and amazing characters.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ebook ARC of The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen.
You will make many assumptions when reading this book.
You will assume you are reading a book about a jealous wife, and her obsession with her replacement.
You will assume you are reading a book about a woman about to enter a new marriage with a man that she loves.
You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her.
You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships.
Assume nothing.
I give this book a rating of 5 stars. It had me guessing the whole way through. The book was very slow in the beginning. But I had heard many good things about this book, so I kept reading. It started to get good at about 40% of the way through. It was very suspenseful and had many twists and turns. I recommend reading it.
The Wife Between Us is a twisted tale of deceit and treachery. What starts off as a story of a jilted ex wife soon transforms into so much more.
Vanessa is divorced. Her ex husband is moving on and that is something Vanessa can’t cope with. His soon so be wife is young and vibrant and all the things that Vanessa feels she no longer is. But as Vanessa’s spying on Richard’s fiances seems to no longer be enough, Vanessa feels she must confront her.
This story is told in three parts and alternates between different points of view. As you reach the end of each part, you’ve come to a new revelation. Not once did I see what was coming because every line is timed just right.
This is easily the best book I’ve read this year and, the best thriller I have read in quite a while. I hope to see many more books written by this magnificent author duo.

Thanks so much for this review copy.
3.9 - enjoyably twisty and turny; rather satisfying ending
The only thing that kept me from giving The Wife Between Us 4 stars was the unevenness of the pacing. The premise of the novel is unique, and the warning to not assume anything while reading unique. I found that the story did have twists and turns, and it kept my interest overall, however the pacing was rather choppy, which made the book too easy to put down for me. I was hoping for something that would make me want to read straight through. The characters were interesting but not compelling. I felt I could tell when they were being voiced by different authors, which was a bit unsettling.
I think if you approach the book as it's suggested, by not assuming, you will most likely have an overall enjoyable reading experience.
This one fell short for me. It's good but it didn't keep me at the edge or really leave me surprised in any way. It's almost like I knew what was coming. There weren't any moments that were scary and the narration really threw me off. I wasn't sure of the character narrating was the previous woman, the current one in a relationship, or if there was a third woman too. It took me a while to realize that a past story was being told. This was more of a book that felt like it belonged in the genre of mystery for me than a true thriller. I see this one becoming a good movie.
I love this type of a thriller that makes you wonder what you even know, and what is going to happen at every turn and twist (of which there are many). One of the most fun reads in a while!
This book was just your standard, run-of-the-mill domestic thriller. In all honesty I think this book was so familiar to me because I've seen this plot play out in just about every Lifetime movie ever. One of the things that really irked me about this book was the fact that the MC was still so obsessed with her ex husband, despite the fact that he was an abusive piece of shit. It made me mad and also confused me.
This book kept my interest from beginning to end. I especially liked the fact that you could not figure out who was the bad guy. Would recommend this book.
The story concept was amazing and full of suspense! Emma's marriage ordeal as presented in the story was so incredible. The authors have managed to spin this story in such a way that it keeps you guessing and never suspecting the conclusion until the very end. Richard deserved a harsher punishment at the end.
Of all the books in the dysfunctional couple thriller genre, The Wife Between Us is the best that I have read and I am a huge fan of these types of books. The plot is so complex and the storyline threads so interwoven that it is hard to review this book without giving away spoilers but it would be an injustice to not share just how good this book is.
The story revolves around the love triangle. Vanessa, is the ex-wife and she is clearly grieving over the end of her marriage. While reading this book I went back and forth between thinking that Vanessa was expressing the normal stages of grief or was she going insane. Richard is the ex-husband who is described, by the authors, as the “perfect husband.” As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Richard is not “perfect” but is this due to Vanessa’s mental illness or is he a master of hiding the truth from the outside world. The last member of the love triangle is Emma, she used to be Richard’s administrative assistant, now she is engaged to be his second wife. Emma believes that she has found “her knight in shining armor.” As the wedding day approaches, Emma starts to see some “chinks” in her knight’s armor, which she tries to explain away but Vanessa’s interference is not helping. The only things that are clear throughout this book is that everyone wears a mask and reality is mired in the complexity of the love triangle.
The Wife Between Us is written by two authors who have perfected the art of writing in one voice. The writing is so crisp, clean and wickedly twisted that I have a hard time putting the book down because it is chocked full of unexpected moments. I don’t remember the last time that I have read a book in which all of my assumptions about the plot were wrong. The Wife Between Us is one of the best psychological thrillers that I have ever read and I can’t stop raving about this book. It is heading to the silver screen and I am keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that the cast and crew can capture the magic of this awesome book.
Thanks so much to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to review this blockbuster book.
I had much higher hopes for this story. It started out fast paced until I hit a wall at Chapter 18. Nellie started out telling her side of the story and the ex wife was Vanessa that was stalking Nellie, then at Chapter 18 suddenly Vanessa is telling the story and the husband is actually marrying his assistant and Nellie is Richard the husband's nickname for Vanessa.
The story felt like it was pieced together from this point on and was a struggle for me. It felt forced and as if someone else had begun to write the story from another person's point of view but it just wasn't working for me. It felt disconnected and not in a good way.
It seemed like parts of the story was not revealed. Like what happened to Nellie aka Vanessa's missing Dog?
Richard was predictable. It was obvious from the first few chapters he was abusive and controlling. If the authors would of hidden this longer it would of been a little more believable and added some realistic suspense.
Was the book a good read? It started out good but it just ran short for me once the narrative changed.
This is an honest review is for Netgalley for an advanced reading copy..
What can I say? This book was a rollercoaster! From the very beginning, the author grabs you and makes you fall in love with the characters while you wait for the other shoe to fall. I don't think I would have picked up a book like this normally, but I'm truly glad that I did. I will definitely be looking at this author for more books!
I went into this book blindly...the blurb is pretty short and does not give anything away yet it was so appealing to me. A psychological thriller that is written very well! I was engaged right from the start. It's full of many twists and surprises that just sneak up on you. I'd suggest to just dive into this unknowingly. If you enjoy psychological domestic thrillers you won't be disappointed.
The problem with mystery/thrillers that bank on a big twist shocking you is that if it doesn’t pay off then the reader is left with a rather slow story.
Although I didn’t guess the first twist, I also wasn’t surprised. I knew it must be something along those lines. And after that reveal, I was easily able to figure out the rest. There was a weird side story (about Maggie and Jason) that I didn’t get the pint of and I felt the epilogue was unnecessary- we really didn’t need one last twist and it didn’t add to or change the story.
That being said, The Wife Between Us is well written and held just enough intrigue to keep me turning pages. I’d be interested in seeing what these two authors come out with next.
This book kept my interest from the start. I loved how the story was woven together and it was never what I thought or expected. This was a great psychological thriller that will make you want to find out how it ends.
Thank you for the chance to review this book, however, unfortunately, I was unable to read and review this title before it was archived.
A psychological thriller about a naive young woman with an older rich fiance, and a messed up woman still recovering from her not so happy marriage but also obsessed with her ex-husband's new fiance.
I almost immediately guessed one of the biggest twists of the books, but there were definitely a few other twists that took me by surprise. This book was pretty entertaining and if you enjoy psychological thrillers where you question whether the narrator is reliable, you will probably enjoy it even if it is not the best of its genre. It was just a little too preposterous for me.
