So where do I begin?? The cover and blurb got my eye and I was very excited to read but this book ended up being a did not finish. I tried so hard to stay with the story but it was so slow and it didn’t hold my attention. At times the story was jumping all over the place with the flashbacks and changes of points of view. I found myself having to go back to see who’s part I was reading. I wanted to love this book but sadly the story didn’t interest me enough to keep reading.

This book contains one twist after another. I definitely enjoyed this read.

Wow! This book had quite the twists and turns throughout that I didn't see coming, especially the last little twist at the end! That was a complete surprise. The characters of Richard and Vanessa are so well written. I feel I can't say to much about the book without giving things away, but I can say that it is a fantastic page-turner that is very well done and is one I highly recommend.
A big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of The Wife Between Us.

What a way to start the New Year. This book is already one of my favorites of 2018.
Lots of unexpected and jaw-dropping twists. I could not put it down, so addictive. For a lover of this genre as I am this was the perfect book to kick off my reading year.
At the end of the book description it says Read between the lies. After you finish it that statement becomes so so real that is almost impossible not to feel blown away. These are a few of the feelings I had while reading the book. I was shocked, surprised, hate and love at the same time for the characters, trying to make sense of all the things happening. When I thought I had it figured out there it was, the twist I was not expecting at all. Fast paced, full of suspense, complex characters, a very clever plot. This book has it all and more. One of the best books I have read on this genre which I recommend a 100%.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a brilliant mind-fuck. I loved it!
I don't want to give much away in the synopsis, you really just need to discover it all for yourself. Vanessa was once married to Richard. She had it all. But now Richard is engaged to marry someone else. It's up to Vanessa to show the new woman who Richard really is. Was it all in her head or will the truth come out just in time?
This book is nicely paced and told in three parts. It's three stages of how you're getting fed the story and the clues you have to work with. It keeps you guessing until the end. You didn't know who was wrong, who was right, and who was playing mind games. You couldn't even trust your own judgement. I never knew what was going to happen, every time I guessed, I guessed totally wrong. I was totally invested in the story, the whole time.
Theres so much in this book, it's a fascinating puzzle. I highly recommend setting aside an entire day or night to read this in one sitting. It's extremely intricate and you don't want to miss a single perfect detail. The second half was a little bit slower, but it was necessary and so worth it for the perfect way the intricacies of the story are revealed.
I really loved the interesting POV use in the first part of the book. So brilliant.
The character development was perfect. Even though much of it was written in 1st person, you still felt like you knew every single character. They were all really realistic and well-rounded characters.
I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

4.5/5. This was an entertaining, twisty, and addictive psychological thriller. It's so well crafted. I can almost guarantee you will be caught by surprise at some point while reading it (likely more than once). Every time I had to put it down, I kept wanting to go back to it because I had to know if it really would deliver on its teaser to "assume nothing". And it truly did. Highly recommended!

I could not put down this book!
EVERYTIME I thought I had the story plot figured out, I was completely wrong! COMPLETELY WRONG! I loved how the story unfolded along with all the twists and turns.

I can't say much with giving anything away, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this psychological suspense thriller - its so good! I can confirm the book primarily takes place in New York City.. Sorry but that's probably the only least spoiler-y I can post.
I think this book will be perfect for Book Clubs so you can delve deep into the many facets of this book and it characters. You will want to seek a support group after finishing this book.
description

In the novel, "The Wife Between Us", Vanessa wants to stop another woman from making the same mistake she did—marry a man who will ultimately ruin her life. Vanessa Thompson is a divorced woman who struggles to keep herself together as her ex-husband marries the woman with whom he cheated on her with. Nellie is a preschool teacher who is about to marry the man of her dreams. In another writer’s hands, this plot could end up being trite, but the authors have a solid understanding of her characters and what makes them tick. The lively plot and surprise twists make this novel a page-turner.
"The Wife Between Us" is a collaboration between Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen; The two authors’ voices mesh together so well there is no distinction between them. The narrative flows smoothly and atmosphere of tension continues to the very final page.
As echoed in many other reviews, "The Wife Between Us" will undoubtedly be a must read for suspense/thrill readers in 2018.
I'd like to thank NetGalley for providing me an advanced copy for my unbiased review.

3.25-3.5 STARS
At first glance, “The Wife Between Us” appears to be a typical story of a woman scorned and out for revenge. But if you pull back the layers and look beneath the façade, you’ll discover a complex psychological thriller that will take you on a suspenseful journey that’s paved with unexpected twists along the way.
At age 27, Nellie found herself engaged to a successful hedge fund manager, nine years her senior. Everything about her fiancé, Richard, seemed too good to be true. Not only did Richard offer Nellie the type of life she could only dream about, but he offered her the safety and security she so desperately craved.
Richard’s ex-wife Vanessa appears to be a disheveled, unstable mess. With an apparent drinking problem and an obsession with stalking Richard’s new flame, Vanessa seems very close to the brink. Determined to prevent Richard from ever re-marrying, Vanessa is prepared to go to any lengths to stop his upcoming nuptials—despite the potential consequences, which just might prove to be deadly.
When it comes to “The Wife Between Us,” nothing is ever exactly as it seems. A myriad of twists and turns makes paying attention of utmost importance, for the truth is hidden within the details. Pay close attention, and in retrospect, you’ll discover that the truth had been right in front of you all along.
As much as I enjoyed this dark and twisty ride, there came a point where the story seemed to drag. I went from completely engaged to feeling a bit detached, just wondering when the story would finally end. Nonetheless, I found “The Wife Between Us” to be a compelling and suspenseful story. I only wish that the strong momentum I felt during the first half could have continued throughout the second.

I found this to be a quick easy read that would be best read when you have a good block of time, so you don’t miss anything..
Our narrator is Nellie-she appears to be obsessed with her ex husband and his new wife to be. We see how she is unravelling. We are transported back to her marriage to Richard, a rich, attentive man. What went wrong between them? What aren’t they telling us? What are we missing?
The book blurb states it well when we are instructed to “assume nothing”. There are two major twists that I definitely did not see coming. It is definitely a book I needed to complete, but did feel the ending was very neat and tidy. What occurred in Nellie’s marriage felt like a scenario I had read before. Why this book is successful are the unexpected twists that really make you perk up and see what a good job the authors did in pulling it off. If you like twisty books, you will like this one.

I started this book, thinking I'd read a chapter before going to bed, and got completely hooked. Once started, it's impossible to put down. I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but it centers around a woman named Nellie who is preparing for her wedding to a man who seems too good to be true. After a traumatic event in college, Nellie always feels unsafe, and begins to feel even more unsafe when it becomes apparent that someone is watching her. The story also follows a woman named Vanessa, who is obsessed with stopping her ex-husbands upcoming marriage. If you like domestic thrillers, I suggest jumping straight into this one without reading any back-cover blurbs (which I think give too much away for this book!) I've been seeing this book be compared to The Girl on the Train, and I agree that if you liked that one, you'll like this one too! They both have the unreliable narrator (which I'm a huge fan of), relationships that you can't quite put your finger on, and have that unputdownable quality you're looking for in a book like this! (But less language and not quite as dark as TGotT, which I really appreciated.) I thought this was a well-written, entertaining read that I would highly recommend.

The Wife Between Us is a compelling domestic-suspense novel full of twists and turns.
While I did enjoy it and had a tough time putting it down, I appear to be in the minority. Part 1 was great but somewhere along the way my attention began to wane. I suppose it was a bit too slow for my liking.
I'm not going to get into the plot as with most thrillers you're better off going in blind but as I said, this book is full of twists - the first and last being the best.
Knowing this is being made into a movie, I'm quite curious to see how it turns out!

this book played with my mind consistently throughout. I had to reread parts to ensure I understood what happened, as certain details were revealed that changed everything. this book held my attention and kept me in suspense the entire time. I will be recommending this book to customers that are looking for a twisted thriller or something with many twists and turns. the description "assume nothing" is very very accurate in this story.

Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to review this book. What a great psychological thriller with twists and turns.
Vanessa is divorced from Richard and while she may appear to be infatuated with her ex husband and obsessed with wondering where she went wrong in the marriage, as you’ve been told “assume nothing.”
Richard has a new love in his life after his divorce from Vanessa. He gets frustrated with Vanessa contacting him and makes it seem like Vanessa needs mental help. But does she?
I was not expecting this book to take some of the twists and turns that it did. It definitely held my attention and was a hard one to lay down.
-I have tried to review this book on both amazon and goodreads and unable
To do so at this time.

Whiplash-inducing thrill ride of 2018!
Nellie is about to marry the man of her dreams, Richard a hedge fund manager in New York City. Vanessa is jealous of her ex-husband Richard's new fiancée and attempts to stop the wedding. The Wife Between Us starts as a classic triangle with alternating chapters narrated by the two women. In this simple shell hide many secrets and mysteries. What caused Vanessa's marriage to crumble so abruptly? What happened to Nellie in college in Florida that makes her so fearful? Is Vanessa inheriting her mother's mental illness possibly making her an unreliable narrator (like Girl on a Train)? Is Richard's seemingly perfect personality just a facade (like American Psycho)? There are many clues to the plot twists to come hidden in plain sight for observant readers to find.
Many books have been called the next Gone Girl but this book gets this reviewer's vote. Both a psychological thriller and a mystery, the Wife Between Us is highly recommended as the best twisty pulse-pounding thrill ride of 2018. Beware that sleep will be lost as the book propels the reader to finish it in one sitting! 5 stars!

In a Flutter: Chilling and wildly entertaining
Fluttering Thoughts:
Worldbuilding: New York and its complex world made for an interesting and layered setting.
Characters: Nellie the kids’ teacher that is about to marry the fab Richard seems sweet and obviously has some traumatic events in her past. There was something very vulnerable and naive about her. I wished her life would go great, but had a sinking suspicion that it wouldn’t.
Vanessa the ex lives a painful life after the divorce. She’s an obvious mess, but as the story unfolded I had a sinking suspicion that she’d gotten some help to get that way. The signs were there, and as things progressed I ended up being right about my suspicions. I won’t spoil the plot twist for you guys, though.
I will say though that however bad Richard is, I just can’t with Maureen. I just can’t.
Plot: The story is structured in 3 main parts, that together build a chilling and gripping picture. There’s a really cool plot twist that has to do with the structure of the narrative that I won’t spoil here, it would ruin the effect. But it’s awesome.
Writing: Third person, past tense narrative, Nellie’s POV, and first person present tense narrative from Vanessa’s POV. The Prologue sets a really creepy tone, and I loved the Epilogue for reasons I won’t disclose here so as not to ruin your surprise. I will say that Vanessa’s voice is heartbreaking, and experiencing things from her POV was very emotionally trying.
Curb Appeal: Cool cover, hooking blurb – impulsive buy material for my Psychological Thriller moods.
I recommend The Wife Between Us to fans of what I am now calling a genre: Marital Thriller – twisted stories of marriage gone wrong -, fans of stories about survivors of abuse and very interesting and twisty story structure.

This book delivered on all the hype promised in the description. It's a great thriller mystery that kept me up all night, with twists and turns galore. I really hope this has been optioned for a movie, it certainly deserves to be and will make a great film.
Without giving away spoilers, Vanessa is a divorced woman who is watching her ex-husband Richard preparing to get remarried. She's obsessed with his wife-t0-be, Nellie, who has a lot in common with the way she used to be when she first got married. The story is told from both Vanessa and Nellie's point of view, but it's not what you expect at all!
I loved this book and highly recommend it. Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book. I was kept guessing right to the end. I will look forward to reading more from this author

Woman (Vanessa) is jealous of her ex-husband (Richard's) new fiance (Emma) ... or is there more to this story than meets the eye?!?
This book received a lot of hype and a lot of really cool marketing (including two specially mailed postcards similar to the campaigns for Behind Closed Doors and He Said/She Said), which is difficult to live up to.
I might end up in the minority on this one, but in my opinion, this book was just ok. The writing was good, but the plot itself was lacking. It felt like the story was written to fit the twists, rather than the other way around. The suspense level was just so-so. If you're looking for a page turner, this is not it. My overall opinion: Much ado about nothing.
Thank you to the authors, the publisher, Reading Group Gold, BookishFirst, and NetGalley for four ARCs of this book in exchange for my honest review! I gave away two paperback copies on my book blog.

They promised a twist and they delivered!
What actually intrigued me the most, and what led to my requesting the novel, was it’s being written by two writers. As a writer myself, I find it absolutely fascinating and it completely works in this book. The basic premise though sounded fine but nothing exciting. I usually don’t go for contemporary life books, even in thrillers, because they tend to disappoint. Domestic thrillers in particular have been very popular of late (i.e. Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train, so on) but I rarely have enjoyed them.
But THIS BOOK grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. I absolutely love an unreliable narrator (They are a favorite of mine.) and the formatting of chapters, with the alternation of the women's stories, sets the reader up to question every move the characters make. There is a great sense of something lingering below the surface that all good thrillers possess. But who is the monster waiting in the dark? Read on to find out.
That twist though. Wow. I dissect books as I read (occupational hazard I guess) but I did not see it coming. Sure, there were coincidences but nothing to make you really know until you’re hit with it. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Great read to start off the new year with a bang!
My one tiny criticism sits with the fact that the two chapters after the climax felt rushed for a book ending. While I liked the bit with Emma, the chapter before with Maureen left too many loose ends for my taste. But still, very highly recommend this one!
Note: I received a free Kindle edition of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher St. Martin’s Press, and the authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen for the opportunity to read and review it.
