The Wife Between Us is an unpredictable, well laid out, page turning story. The characters are believable and complex. I looked forward to my reading time each night while I was reading this book.
I have been sitting on this review for awhile now, thinking on how I want to write it. Each time I started a sentence, I was giving away too much of the plot. I went into this book blindly. I saw that the ratings were awesome and noticed it was a thriller which is my favorite genre, its not only just a thriller but a psychological thriller. I did read the blurb and the blurb didn't give anything away either. I had no idea what this book was about, and this book has lots of twists and turns that are full of surprises. The twists and turns make this book so much fun.I suggest you go into this book blindly and hope you get the same surprises as I did. I am using the blurb as my review because I think its perfect for this book, and then I will put down my thoughts.
A novel of suspense that explores the complexities of marriage and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.
When you read this book, you will make many assumptions.
You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement.
You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves.
You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her.
You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships.
Assume nothing.
Discover the next blockbuster novel of suspense, and get ready for the read of your life.
I can not say that I was hooked straight from the very beginning. This one has a slow burn going into it. Once I got into it though I couldn't put it down. It was like a rollercoaster ride filled with twists and turns. I found this psychological thriller to be very addicting once I got to the suspense.
The chapters are very short, so it is a fast paced read. This book is very well written. I loved the dialogue, and the writing style. The characters were so well developed. This one kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing. All the clues were there but it was like a jigsaw puzzle. The pieces of this puzzle just made this an unpredictable read for me. It was so surprising. I could not put it down and kept wondering what was going to happen next. The book ended very well. It kept my attention and amazed me. It has several jaw dropping moments.
I recommend it. I want to thank Netgalley, St. Martin's Press and the author for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Once I started this true page turner, there was no going back! No dinner was cooked, no laundry was done, as I couldn't be bothered to leave Nellies world for even a moment! I admit I went back a few pages when the first twist appeared just to be sure I hadn't missed something, but that only made me delve in even more! Who's word can you trust, what's really going on?! I don't want to give anything away as it would feel like taking a favorite gift away from a child so I'll leave fellow readers with this... READ THIS BOOK AT ALL COSTS! #OMGTHATTWIST #Netgalley
The Wife Between Us is full of twists and turns, and I could not put it down--until the last third of the book. Suddenly it felt like I was reading a different story. It became much more predictable for me, like the author had to find a way to wrap up the story. However, I seem to be in the minority, so maybe it was just my interpretation. It's hard to give a more in depth review without spoiling the book, but I wish there would have been a more definitive ending.
What a great thriller! So many twist and turns. In starting off, I thought I knew EXACTLY what was going on. But I was wrong!
We meet Vanessa, the ex wife who seems to have many issues. She and Richard had a rough marriage, she is divorced, learns he is engaged to remarry, and also dealing with knowing her mother had some mental issues and concerned about that.
Honestly, in this book I feel I cannot tell more in my review for fear of giving away too much of the storyline.
That being said, if you like a twisty thriller, this is the book for you.
Thanks St. Martins Press and Netgalley for an ARC of this great book!
Wow. This novel is fantastic! Just when you think you have it figured out, a twist comes and you're left guessing again. Is she insane? Or is she just confused? She needs to be locked up, she is utterly sick. Or is she? Who is HE? I was so frustrated at one point I wanted to put the book down, but didn't because I HAD to know. What happened to the dog? That one upset me to no end. I love dogs. This book is a must read. You won't figure it out. It is very well written and even to the very end you won't know what will happen until it does.
RATING: 2.5-3 STARS

I was really looking forward to this one and this is a fair psychological thriller. It's not exactly what you think, though the twist comes a bit late, but I think only some readers will pick up on it early. Henricks kept my attention despite the characters being "Gone Girl" types. I would say this is definitely a library book borrow than a go out and buy.
I was once again disappointed in another book fueled by hype and great reviews. I almost put it down but after reading halfway I decided to perservere. Now I must give credit where credit is due, there are certainly some major plot twists that make the intriguing ending difficult to predict. Unfortunately, I felt the first half was rather boring and the last part confusing. At times, it was hard to distinguish which character's head the thoughts were coming from. While it was a good effort for a debut thriller, there are many others I would recommend over this one.
A thriller this was not. It took a while to get into the story. For a while it was nothing more than a banal story about a scorned woman left for a younger woman. Then it turned into a story about a deceptive husband.
This fell flat. Most of the time what was going on didn't hint at anything deeply disturbing going on. There were a few twists, but they certainly weren't mind blowing. Richard was the main impediment to this story being appealing. It was apparent from the start that he was controlling, demanding, selfish and superficial. It was hard to understand why more than one woman was ever in love with this man. Sure he was rich but that's not everything. I felt like this was supposed to be a story about a charming man who was not what he appeared. For that to work, he had to be charming in the first place. Vanessa's role in the story wasn't interesting as it alluded to.
The ending wasn't what I hoped it would be. It was good, but I was expecting more. There were dark elements, but the story itself wasn't dark. Nothing that anybody did was shocking or maybe I was too unattached to the characters to feel disturbed by what happened to them. The prologue definitely had an unexpected twist although it wouldn’t have changed anything if it hadn’t been included, which lessened the impact of the twist.
So where do I begin?? The cover and blurb got my eye and I was very excited to read but this book ended up being a did not finish. I tried so hard to stay with the story but it was so slow and it didn’t hold my attention. At times the story was jumping all over the place with the flashbacks and changes of points of view. I found myself having to go back to see who’s part I was reading. I wanted to love this book but sadly the story didn’t interest me enough to keep reading.
This book contains one twist after another. I definitely enjoyed this read.
Wow! This book had quite the twists and turns throughout that I didn't see coming, especially the last little twist at the end! That was a complete surprise. The characters of Richard and Vanessa are so well written. I feel I can't say to much about the book without giving things away, but I can say that it is a fantastic page-turner that is very well done and is one I highly recommend.
A big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of The Wife Between Us.
What a way to start the New Year. This book is already one of my favorites of 2018.
Lots of unexpected and jaw-dropping twists. I could not put it down, so addictive. For a lover of this genre as I am this was the perfect book to kick off my reading year.
At the end of the book description it says Read between the lies. After you finish it that statement becomes so so real that is almost impossible not to feel blown away. These are a few of the feelings I had while reading the book. I was shocked, surprised, hate and love at the same time for the characters, trying to make sense of all the things happening. When I thought I had it figured out there it was, the twist I was not expecting at all. Fast paced, full of suspense, complex characters, a very clever plot. This book has it all and more. One of the best books I have read on this genre which I recommend a 100%.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a brilliant mind-fuck. I loved it!
I don't want to give much away in the synopsis, you really just need to discover it all for yourself. Vanessa was once married to Richard. She had it all. But now Richard is engaged to marry someone else. It's up to Vanessa to show the new woman who Richard really is. Was it all in her head or will the truth come out just in time?
This book is nicely paced and told in three parts. It's three stages of how you're getting fed the story and the clues you have to work with. It keeps you guessing until the end. You didn't know who was wrong, who was right, and who was playing mind games. You couldn't even trust your own judgement. I never knew what was going to happen, every time I guessed, I guessed totally wrong. I was totally invested in the story, the whole time.
Theres so much in this book, it's a fascinating puzzle. I highly recommend setting aside an entire day or night to read this in one sitting. It's extremely intricate and you don't want to miss a single perfect detail. The second half was a little bit slower, but it was necessary and so worth it for the perfect way the intricacies of the story are revealed.
I really loved the interesting POV use in the first part of the book. So brilliant.
The character development was perfect. Even though much of it was written in 1st person, you still felt like you knew every single character. They were all really realistic and well-rounded characters.
I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
4.5/5. This was an entertaining, twisty, and addictive psychological thriller. It's so well crafted. I can almost guarantee you will be caught by surprise at some point while reading it (likely more than once). Every time I had to put it down, I kept wanting to go back to it because I had to know if it really would deliver on its teaser to "assume nothing". And it truly did. Highly recommended!
I could not put down this book!
EVERYTIME I thought I had the story plot figured out, I was completely wrong! COMPLETELY WRONG! I loved how the story unfolded along with all the twists and turns.

I can't say much with giving anything away, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this psychological suspense thriller - its so good! I can confirm the book primarily takes place in New York City.. Sorry but that's probably the only least spoiler-y I can post.
I think this book will be perfect for Book Clubs so you can delve deep into the many facets of this book and it characters. You will want to seek a support group after finishing this book.

In the novel, "The Wife Between Us", Vanessa wants to stop another woman from making the same mistake she did—marry a man who will ultimately ruin her life. Vanessa Thompson is a divorced woman who struggles to keep herself together as her ex-husband marries the woman with whom he cheated on her with. Nellie is a preschool teacher who is about to marry the man of her dreams. In another writer’s hands, this plot could end up being trite, but the authors have a solid understanding of her characters and what makes them tick. The lively plot and surprise twists make this novel a page-turner.
"The Wife Between Us" is a collaboration between Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen; The two authors’ voices mesh together so well there is no distinction between them. The narrative flows smoothly and atmosphere of tension continues to the very final page.
As echoed in many other reviews, "The Wife Between Us" will undoubtedly be a must read for suspense/thrill readers in 2018.
I'd like to thank NetGalley for providing me an advanced copy for my unbiased review.
3.25-3.5 STARS
At first glance, “The Wife Between Us” appears to be a typical story of a woman scorned and out for revenge. But if you pull back the layers and look beneath the façade, you’ll discover a complex psychological thriller that will take you on a suspenseful journey that’s paved with unexpected twists along the way.
At age 27, Nellie found herself engaged to a successful hedge fund manager, nine years her senior. Everything about her fiancé, Richard, seemed too good to be true. Not only did Richard offer Nellie the type of life she could only dream about, but he offered her the safety and security she so desperately craved.
Richard’s ex-wife Vanessa appears to be a disheveled, unstable mess. With an apparent drinking problem and an obsession with stalking Richard’s new flame, Vanessa seems very close to the brink. Determined to prevent Richard from ever re-marrying, Vanessa is prepared to go to any lengths to stop his upcoming nuptials—despite the potential consequences, which just might prove to be deadly.
When it comes to “The Wife Between Us,” nothing is ever exactly as it seems. A myriad of twists and turns makes paying attention of utmost importance, for the truth is hidden within the details. Pay close attention, and in retrospect, you’ll discover that the truth had been right in front of you all along.
As much as I enjoyed this dark and twisty ride, there came a point where the story seemed to drag. I went from completely engaged to feeling a bit detached, just wondering when the story would finally end. Nonetheless, I found “The Wife Between Us” to be a compelling and suspenseful story. I only wish that the strong momentum I felt during the first half could have continued throughout the second.
I found this to be a quick easy read that would be best read when you have a good block of time, so you don’t miss anything..
Our narrator is Nellie-she appears to be obsessed with her ex husband and his new wife to be. We see how she is unravelling. We are transported back to her marriage to Richard, a rich, attentive man. What went wrong between them? What aren’t they telling us? What are we missing?
The book blurb states it well when we are instructed to “assume nothing”. There are two major twists that I definitely did not see coming. It is definitely a book I needed to complete, but did feel the ending was very neat and tidy. What occurred in Nellie’s marriage felt like a scenario I had read before. Why this book is successful are the unexpected twists that really make you perk up and see what a good job the authors did in pulling it off. If you like twisty books, you will like this one.
