I kind of wish I hadn't read the intro blurb to this book, as I ended up guessing what the twist was, which is always annoying! However, as that happens halfway through the book, I was still intrigued to read on and discover how things had gotten where they were.
Trying not give away any spoilers, this is a decent thriller that reinforces the ages old adage "love is blind". It's well constructed with a good twist halfway through, but for me, it did lose its way a little towards the end.
It does have a great unreliable narrator, who reminded me in parts of Rachel from "The Girl on the Train", in its central character, who will have you scratching your head (in a good way) as to what is real and what is the truth.
As thrillers go, this one is pretty good, just let down by a slightly disappointing editor. Fans of Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train et al, will likely love this!
Just when you think you know what's going on, author Greer Henricks throws readers a curveball.
At first, I thought this story was going to be predictable -- husband leaves wife, husband finds new arm candy, husband proposes to new arm candy, ex-wife becomes obsessed with new arm candy, drama ensues. But nothing is what it seems in this domestic drama. Sometimes all the love and money in the world can't save you from yourself, especially when you can't even recognize yourself anymore.
The writing is full of thematic foreshadowing, leading readers down one "rabbit hole" only to find themselves somewhere they never expected to be. Henricks forces readers to question what they would do for love and how far they would go for another person.
You can’ judge a book by its cover nor make assumptions about a person by what they project on the outside. The book’s blurb says “assume nothing” and that is good advice because THE WIFE BETWEEN US is an ingenious tale where no one is who they appear to be and everyone is engaged in mind games and manipulation.
Certain details are omitted in this complex tapestry and not brought to light until the half way point in the narrative. While it can be a bleak read at times, each character in the diverse cast is presented with intriguing depth without distracting from the action thus leaving readers wanting more from authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.
Impressively intriguing best describes this tale of love, marriage, divorce - - actions and reactions as it follows the emotions and experiences of its narrator who may or may not be telling the truth. There is true genius present in this “not so straight-forward” tale by authors who have created the gold standard in solid suspense.
I read The Wife Between Us with three of our Traveling Sisters.
The Wife Between Us is an angst driven, clever, gripping, suspenseful and not your typical domestic psychological thriller novel that was an absolutely thrilling and exciting read. We went into this one thinking we were going to be prepared to look outside of the box and figure out some of those shocking twists. We had our game on and we were on the lookout for those clues that were so brilliantly executed with only Norma picking up on one right from the start. Brenda should have too!
It started off a bit slow as we were waiting to pick up on those oh so subtle clues, and the questions started building up for us. We thought we were ready and then the first shocking and unforgettable twist came and we all were left speechless with only one word to say, “WOW”. Well except for Norma who was feeling pretty proud of yourself for picking up on the clue for that one. After that initial shock, we started questioning how the authors were going to pull it off with this twisty plot and we really enjoyed the discussion that brought on.
Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have done such a fantastic job here with this complicated, complex and compelling storyline, creating a fascinating unreliable character here with Vanessa. We questioned her motives, her history and her husband and their relationship. We didn’t know who to trust and we tried not to make assumptions and that left us questioning everyone. The authors do such a great job with this unique and riveting novel, cleverly revealing the right pieces of the puzzle to us at the right time which were so brilliantly delivered. Allowing us to only see those pieces after reading it and leaving us discussing just how cleverly plotted this story really was.
We all found this to be a fun, fast-paced, exciting, enjoyable and a compelling read and we all absolutely loved this reading experience! That ending was absolutely phenomenal and Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen we all agree that you both definitely pulled it off! Highly recommend!!
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen for an ARC of this novel to read and review.

3.5 stars! This was a twisty and suspenseful thriller that had my jaw-dropping from start to finish.
The authors, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanan, did a fantastic job creating an intriguing plot with many clever and shocking twists and turns. I loved the element of surprise that hit me a few times throughout the story – I was caught completely off guard! Fantastic job to these authors for building up the suspense and presenting some completely unexpected and mind-blowing cliffhangers at the end of each section!
Overall, I enjoyed this novel, but did find some parts became slightly repetitive and the pace dragged at a few points. I enjoyed and felt satisfied with the ending, though I wasn’t ‘wowed’ by it. I did find some of the dialogue and characters’ thoughts seemed unnatural.
This unique and entertaining story was a quick and easy read that I breezed through with my Traveling Sisters Norma, Brenda, Kaceey and Susanne. I enjoyed discussing our suspicions along the way.
A big thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the authors, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanan, for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

When a book can create a buzz…when my sense of anxiety notches up! I know I’ve come across a great read!
This fantastic new release by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen did just that for me! With a constant aura of anticipation and unease, (Just what we love when reading a thriller!) I breezed through the pages.
I was reminded partially through, (thank you Brenda!) that a wicked twist lay ahead. Yet even with a heads-up, I never saw it coming! Whaaat??!! And bonus…there were plenty more to come!
A fantastic, mind-bending thriller dealing with… marriage, divorce and the other woman (not necessarily in that order!). And well, I’ll just stop there! I won’t keep rattling on and risk giving anything away. Trust me, the less you know going in, the more you’ll enjoy this one!
And be forewarned – you’ll want to clear your schedule. Once you start, you won’t want to put this one down! A great collaboration from Ms. Hendricks and Ms. Pekkanen. An exciting new writing duo in the thriller arena. Can’t wait for their next release!!
A wonderful Traveling Sister Read with Brenda, Norma, Lindsay and Susanne!

4.5 Stars* (rounded up).
Chilling and Thrilling! It will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Take notice friends. This is the next best seller.
“The Wife Between Us” is compelling and absolutely riveting. This is the story of Vanessa, Richard and Nellie, whom you think you know oh so well, but the truth is, no one is ever who you think they are. And what I will tell you is that this book will have you looking over your shoulder, questioning everything - including yourselves.
I was freaked out from the start. Breathless, uncomfortable and a little afraid. My stomach was in knots, I was gripped in fear and yet I was unable to stop. I was like a mouse with a piece of cheese. I couldn’t get enough of the characters, especially of Vanessa, her angst, her needs and her fears. And just like the mouse, I got trapped. Trapped in the mystery. Trapped in the most idiosyncratic read ever. Loving every second of it.
“The Wife Between Us” by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is a phenomenal psychological thriller. It will be the must read thriller of 2018. It was addictive and completely captivating. The writing was brilliant and the fact that two authors wrote this together and did so seamlessly is one heck of a feat.
This was a Traveling Sister read and I loved being a part of it. It included: Norma, Brenda, Kaceey and Lindsay. We had the absolute best time reading this book together. Thanks for including me sisters!

Husband Wife Mistress
We have read about this before. I think not!
Not in the way that authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen present it to us in this unique psychological thriller that had me second guessing everything.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out (a few times) I was wrong.
The subtle twists and layer upon layer of deception shocked me.
This wonderfully chilling story explores the complications of marriage and the dangerous truths we ignore for love.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Please note: I received a copy of THE WIFE BETWEEN US from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher and authors.
Can I award a zillion stars because 5 stars are not enough and here is why:
Perfect life or a perfect nightmare? Bam! I'm hooked!
Perfect husband. Check.
Perfect wife. Check.
Fairytale wedding. Check.
Perfect life. Check...or maybe not...
Bam! This psychological thriller gave me whiplash. At first, I received the first four chapters of THE WIFE BETWEEN US from Bookish – so I begged the universe for the rest of this book because 5 stars are not enough! Four chapters are not enough! I needed the whole book stat! Thankfully, the publishers and NetGalley delivered!
WOW – I was riveted to this story from the moment I started reading it until the bittersweet end. And that Epilogue? Holy epilogue! I did not see that coming!
First, I love the cover. It's quite eerie with the two similar women, plus the blue color sets the tone for what you might find inside. I got chills just staring at it.
Just when you think you've got a good handle on the two main characters - wife number one and soon-to-be wife number two - the story twists and turns and you're on a rollercoaster of emotions with no end in sight thanks to the unreliable narrators. This fast-paced story has book hangover stamped all over it. I read the entire book in one night! And man, the next day was hard to get through - my mind kept revisiting the story!
Vanessa has been discarded by her successful husband, Richard, who traded her in for Nellie, a newer and younger version of the perfect trophy wife. Vanessa tries to cope with the loss of not only her husband but also her whole reason for living. When she loses her identity, she loses her perspective, and that's when the twists and turns take off. Nellie appears to be sugar and spice and everything nice. but there's more to her than meet's the eye, and that's what makes her and this story so intriguing.
If you like psychological thrillers with breathtaking plot twists and addictive characters, this book is for you. Highly recommend!

No real review here, just my thoughts as a reviewer. There was so much buzz about this book. And, such high ratings, which may be why I was so disappointed. So many of my blogger friends loved this one, I am feeling very alone. Unfortunately, I thought this book was written in a third-grade reading level (please don’t hate me). The first held my interest but, I figured out the twist just a few pages in. I found the second half plain old boring. Women’s Fiction should have been a heads up for me. I don’t really care for that genre. So there is no way I can recommend this novel, but many others loved it so you might want to ignore my thoughts and give it a try.
Everything you think you know as you read this book is wrong. Assume nothing. This book keeps you guessing until the very end and you need to read it quickly to find out all that is going on! An absolute amazing thriller of a book! I received an advanced readers copy of the book and all opinions are my own.
Wow! Just wow! This book blew me away. I thought I knew what was what and who was who. And boy, was I wrong. I thought I had it all figured out, but nope, it did not turn out at all like I thought it would.
This book is honestly a page turner as well as a giant puzzle. I remember reading along and then experiencing a shift. I almost did a double-take, if you can double-take while reading. I shook my head and thought, 'Wait a minute, what just happened? I am confused.'
Trust me, you are not going to want to miss this exciting, engaging, and enticing read. This is one you will think about long after you close the cover.
Not your typical other woman story. There are plenty of misdeeds to implicate everyone.
This book is so super confusing! I absolutely loved it!
It's broken up into three parts and it starts to click once you get to the second part.
I was sitting on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going on and what was going to happen next.
It's hard for me to review because the whole premise of the book is a spoiler and I don't want to spoil it. I recommend you read this book!
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen was given to me for free for an honest review. The Wife Between Us, wow, talk a roller coaster of a read with lots of twists, ups and downs. Do not assume you know how the story will end, nor how everyone is. Love, love this story. Kept me on the edge of my seat, not wanting to put the book down (even in to the wee hours). Is Vanessa truly a bitter, drunk ex trying to dissolve Richard's relationship with his current girlfriend? Is Emma truly aware of who the people she surrounds herself with? Richard wanted to be free from his forgetful, wine drinking, and drone of a wife.
A few times where I thought I knew where the story was going, only to be led down another path. Give this book a read and you will not regret it.
As of late, every thriller tries to compare itself to "Gone Girl".
Well, this book takes the plot twist to a whole new level. It makes "Gone Girl" look tame!
I was at turns scared, surprised, amazed, and shocked. This is one of the only times that a highly-buzzed about book has lived up to the hype.
This book was outstanding. The characters are so well developed, the plot twists were like no other ! I was stunned
I give this book 4 out of 5 Twisted Stars! Wow what an enthralling thriller! I was blown away with how many twists and turns were in this novel! There was so many surprises and it was hard to keep up with everything at all times! I can't go into the plot that much because it would cause major spoiler alerts, but I felt the plot was very well written and descriptive! The reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because I was confused on how one of the characters "orchestrated something" but felt all upset about something at the same time but I know people can be so confusing. I can't yet again explain it right because of the whole spoiler thingamajig but this was an emotional roller coaster! One minute I'm totally invested and think I am all Ms. Sherlock Homeboy telling my good friend Kim at By Hook or By Book that I had it all figured out in my head but of course this book brought me so much twists than I thought possible and she kept her lips sealed of course. Some scenes were a little intense for me personally so I have to admit that this may be a trigger for some who have suffered some kind of domestic violence. I'm not trying to give away anything but it's brought up in this book and think the warning is deserved.
I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a good thriller that will keep you up late turning up pages! This book had me up way past my bed time and the kids have to go to school in a few hours but overall this was #WorthIt!!!
“To this beautiful young woman with the heart-shaped face and lush body – the woman my husband, Richard, left me for – I’m as invisible as the pigeons scavenging on the sidewalk next to me. She has no idea what will happen to her if she continues like this. None at all.”
Like every review for “The Wife Between Us” says, it’s hard to write about it without spoiling it. I normally find that to be a cop-out, but it’s pretty true here. What can I say without giving it all away?
Focussing on Vanessa and Nellie, we’re drawn into a failed marriage and the start of a new one. The novel highlights the differences between the two: Vanessa, now living with her aging aunt and Nellie, the fun preschool teacher.
It took me a while to get into “The Wife Between Us” – about halfway through – but it was totally worth it. The beginning is good, but I couldn’t put it down after the midway point. I genuinely didn’t see the main twist coming. It’s better to go into it with the least amount of information possible. Once you start thinking you know where it’s headed, the novel shifts. It’s gripping, suspenseful and well-planned. Even looking through the novel now to write this review, I’m interested in seeing how everything was brought together.
I expected “The Wife Between Us” to be another novel heavily inspired by “Gone Girl” but it holds its own. “Gone Girl” is not the suspense novel holy grail, but it has definitely influenced many recent publications. “The Wife Between Us” is truly its own entity. I can’t wait for more people to read it so I can discuss it with EVERYONE. It will definitely be a much talked about book in the new year.
I received an advance copy of “The Wife Between Us” in exchange for an honest review. “The Wife Between Us” is available to purchase January 9, 2018.
A high 4 stars for clever addictive story telling. I haven't been glued to a book in the same way as I was to The Wife Between Us in a long time. It's not perfect, but sure works as a powerful diversion. It's really hard to say anything about the story without giving too much away. I will say that it starts with alternating points of view – alternating between an ex-wife and a soon to be new wife. There are lots of twists and turns, and things keep not quite being as they seem. I’ve read quite a few domestic thrillers with similar themes. Weak female leads make me nervous, and I can get quite annoyed with jealous spurned women. The Wife Between Us takes these themes somewhere completely different. It’s not perfect because the last twist was unnecessary and over the top. But otherwise, I had a great time reading this one. An added bonus is that there’s very little violence – this one is very much a psychological thriller. Highly recommended for those who enjoy the genre. Thanks to Debbie and her brilliant review -- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... -- for nudging me to start this one. Thanks also to the publisher and Netgalley for an opportunity to read an advance copy.
