I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I loved the description of this book, "When you read this book, you will make many assumptions." I began making assumptions when I first started reading it. Surprises occur around every corner. I thought it was going to be very predictable, but nothing about it was. I loved the main character and liked that the book was told from the narrator point of view. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a thriller that you can't guess the ending to!
So many twists, I was seeing double! My head was spinning and I went back to re-read several parts to “make sure” I read what I thought I read. Yes, that is exactly what I read. I need a lifeline….can I call a friend?
Meet Vanessa, the ex-wife with issues. She is jealous and obsessed with her replacement, Nellie, who is young and pretty just like her former self. Richard is the handsome, but controlling husband.
Vanessa is determined to stop Richard’s marriage from happening and nothing will stop her. You will need to read the book to find out!
Even if your detective skills are top-notch, you will be hood-winked. Enjoy!
A fantastic read. I devoured it in a day! Loved the twists and turns. Superbly written and highly recommended!
Great story that had me guessing till the end. Loved how the story goes from past to current times.
4 🌟 What the WHAT did I just read???
I am speechless right now, The Wife Between Us was one hell of a ride that’s for sure. The blurb is right, most of my assumptions were totally wrong and this book had plot twists that I couldn’t see coming from a mile away. The book was very fast paced, and I wasn’t bored with it at all. It takes a while to find out all the secrets that our characters are sharing and at the end, BAM, one of the most shocking discoveries of them all.
I liked the writing style, and the authors did a great job of telling you about the characters without giving away too much at once. I liked having the background and that they were setting the scene for the rest of the book.
I am SO excited to see this as a movie, I have a feeling it is going to be pretty amazing.
I definitely recommend this book. Although I didn’t give it 5 stars, I still really enjoyed it.
This is a suspenseful story about an ex-wife, a fiance, and Richard Thompson, the man they share in common. As the book begins, the seed is planted of fear involving Richard's imminent wife, Nellie. She is being watched from afar by Richard's ex-wife Vanessa. This establishes the feeling of paranoia and dread that ripples throughout the book.
There are dueling back stories that unfold as the book progresses, narrated by each of these women. Sometimes the change in narrator is not immediately evident and you say, "Oh!" and regroup once you realize who is talking. The pace is never boring and the surprise elements keep on coming.
What woman wouldn't want to live in a magnificent home, drive fancy cars, host opulent parties and not even have to work? As each of these women learn, what appears as a golden lifestyle to others may come with a hefty personal price.
This was a good read, but the ending for me was a bit anticlimactic. There has been a lot of hype, excitement and anticipation about this book, so perhaps my expectations were heightened.
A very good read, a little complicated at times but a really intriguing storyline. The characters and their relationships are portrayed so well. An enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This was such a great book. The story line was fast paced and easy to read .
I tried to get into this story but found the writing clunky and distracting.
Warning! Don't read this at night if you have to get up to go to work the next day! Once you get to a certain point, you will not be able to put this book down. The publisher's description warns us not to make any assumptions, and keep that in mind when you are reading this book. Just when you think you know what is happening, another sub-plot is thrown at you. A must read if you are a fan of psychological thrillers.
I received an ARC of this novel from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
This novel is a psychological thriller involving a twisted relationship between a divorced couple and the new replacement fiancé.
WOW! Normally I try to give a better synopsis of a book before I give my thoughts but I really don't know how on this one without giving anything away. I will say I started this book and thought to myself...this is nothing new....but it was. I begin to make assumptions about the characters thinking...typical and predictable...but they weren't and I was wrong. I thought I knew what was going on and where the storyline was headed but I was mistaken. The cover and plot summary for this one had me hooked and I was not disappointed. I will say I felt it started out a little slow but the novel is split into three parts...just hang in there because it is just setting up the story in order to blow your mind. This is the perfect novel to kick off the New Year and I highly recommend it.
"In my marriage, there were three truths, three alternate and sometimes competing realities. There was Richard's truth. There was my truth. And there was the actual truth, which is always the most elusive to recognize."
HO. LEE. COW. I just finished this one - literally a minute ago - and folks, it is good. Do not start it when you have work to do. It's a 'just one more page' kind of read. It was hard to be productive because this book buckled me in and I could not get off this rollercoaster until I hit the end.
You're going to ask questions. You're going to ask SO many questions. Who's right? Who's wrong? Is that person crazy? Am I going crazy? I couldn't even figure out who I was supposed to root for. This book chewed me up and spit me out and left me reeling on the sidewalk.
This novel follows the current mystery genre format for dark themes that are unveiled in convoluted sequence.. While there is some suspense in the story arc, the manner of presentation leaves it a little too disjointed to satisfy a quest for solution. Too many coincidences make the outcome unsatisfying as a solved mystery or an understandable confluence of conspiracies. Sometimes it is enjoyable to have a story revealed in glimpses to create a whole, but it can also be frustrating to have the same ground revisited with different interpretations. The writing itself is very good but the story is not as engaging as I had hoped. However, it was sufficient to keep me distracted while peddling a stationary bike.
When the book starts out, we meet Nellie, a gorgeous 20-something year old in a dazzling relationship with an attractive older man. You know the type–successful, gives expensive romantic gifts, caring–the whole nine yards! It sounds like a dream, except for one small detail–a jealous and potentially dangerous ex-wife in the mix.
And as the story plays out in three parts, each more thrilling than the last, the reader finds that things are not all as they seem. It’s a cleverly written thriller that will definitely be getting a lot of attention this winter from readers who love a good twist. It’s also one of those books I can’t say too much about without spoilers, so I’m keeping this review short and sweet. In two words….READ IT.
Word on the street (okay, so says the The Hollywood Reporter) is that the book has already been optioned for a movie by the team that worked on Girl on a Train. Which of course means you have to run out and get this book the minute it releases on January 9 so that you can read it before the movie comes out!
Okay, you’ve got some time. But this one is going to be the IT suspense thriller of 2018! Wait and see:)
I am going to be deliberately vague on details of this book because I do not want to chance giving any of the surprises away. The success of this novel lies not in the story itself but the execution of that story. This is not an original story line. I have read similar themes over and over. The teaser made some pretty bold promises. In the case of most books, that promise falls short of delivery. The Wife Between Us not only delivers but goes one, two, and three steps beyond. As I read this novel, I found the alternating chapters between the characters of Nellie and Vanessa to be quite compelling. Each had a distinctive personality crafted with care by the authors. I was constantly questioning who the victim was and who the perpetrator was. Each chapter had me reevaluating my thoughts. The simplistic style of writing flows flawlessly and keeps the reader engaged. I must admit that I am a minimalist and tend to skim when I read. I detest the overuse of descriptive text, tedious conversations, and dull statistics that fail to actually contribute to more than adding fluff to the story. I was never inclined to skim anything in book. Every character and every sentence had a purpose. I was enjoying the subtle increase in pace as (less than halfway through) the story took a turn that literally threw me for a loop. It wouldn’t be the last time either.
I have to admit that the story line in the second half was not nearly as interesting as the first. It failed to trigger the emotions in me that such a subject could have. I have to go back to the fact that although the story wasn’t fresh, the writing was. There were twists in the story all the way through to the last chapter. I cannot emphasize enough how well written this book is. I find myself wondering if the characters of Nellie and Vanessa were written by each author because they were drastically different from each other in both style and tone. While parts of the novel (the execution) were of obvious 5 star quality, I reserve 5 star ratings for those novels I intend to read multiple times. I loved this book but once the secrets were revealed, I don’t see myself reading it again. I WILL be looking for more works by these two authors and hoping they strike magic a second time.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. The way the story unfolded was interesting and satisfying. All of my questions were answered. It seems like a pretty unique way to tell the story and allowed a great reveal. There were plenty of twists that made sense and didn't seem too far-fetched. The transition from part one to part two was confusing for longer than I liked, but when it really came together it was great.
So many twists and turns. I loved this book not just because it is well written, which it is, or because of the character development, which was excellent, but because it kept surprising me right up until the final page! Well done! Highly recommended.

Wow. Just wow. This book was amazing! Every time I thought I knew what was going on, there was another twist that I wasn’t expecting. Right until the very end. This book was so well written, the characters and the plot line were very believable. Everything written was for a reason and it all made sense by the end.
I would highly recommend this book!
I thought the book was well written, but it did not keep me on the edge of my seat. I was expecting more of a thriller. The characters were well drawn, the main character seemed to miraculously get her act together.
Overall I thought it was a decent read--won't go on my "read again" list.
This was too much like the typical scorned wife book-at least from the beginning of the book. I couldn't get past it and set it down.
