I do think part of the reason I didn’t enjoy this more was because of the formatting. A scene would be going along…doing okay…then suddenly, with no formatting changes, it’s in the future and it’s very confusing. There is a twist in the middle that I did not expect, and I always appreciate those. However, in this instance, I didn’t really get the full effect from it. You see, when it comes to twists, there is one contemporary book that everyone goes back to: Gone Girl. EVERYONE says, “it has a twist like in Gone Girl!” or “This is the new Gone Girl!” The fact is that a twist like that can rarely be duplicated. In Gone, Girl, you are going along in the book, trying to figure out this mystery, but what is being given to you are facts: this is what is happening, this is what is going on, this is what the husband found, what does it all mean? Then BAM, you’re hit with this twist and you’re thinking, “Ohhh…okay….WOW” but you can continue to read the book. With a twist like the one in The Wife Between Us, you read it, think, “Oh…huh…” and then feel like you need to go back and reread the entire first half of the book, which you don’t want to do.

Secondly, this book just felt like it was all over the place. There would be the briefest one-sentence mention of a dark-haired woman, and then nothing for 100 pages, and then it’s brought up again and you can’t remember why this was important. The epilogue felt completely unnecessary. It added nothing to the story. I mean seriously, nothing. When confronted with the facts in the epilogue, even the characters are essentially like “oh okay. Yeah. Good to know. Peace out.”

After reading the entire book, I do understand why there was this build-up of clues as to what happened to the protagonist in college. Unfortunately, these kinds of clues in a novel have been ruined by Cathy Lamb (sorry, Cathy, but it’s true). I can no longer read her books because of this. From page one, you’ll get these sentences like, “I was going to plant radishes and turnips and potatoes and carrots and peas…but not corn. Never corn.” And then that sentence would repeat with this weird mentioning of corn throughout the novel and you’re thinking, “OK, I get it – wtf is up with this corn thing???” and then you don’t find out until 200 pages later. In another book, it was, “…but never red.” The whole damn book, it was, “but never red.” It drives me nuts after a while because she does it in almost every book. In The Wife Between Us, there were clues as to what happened in college, and you really just want to know wtf happened in college, and then you realize that plot point A led to plot point B, and if you had taken out the entire thing, it probably would not have impacted the book that much. Looking back on it, I feel like it was setting up a gaslighting situation, but in such a roundabout way that it never felt cohesive – the entire book just never felt solid.

I’m giving it a 3 out 5 because I did finish it in one night, and it’s a pretty easy read, but I don’t think it works for what it’s trying to be.

I don 't regret reading this book. In fact, up until part 2 began this was going to be a 4 star. Great description, beautiful cover, and a story that not only promises, but actually delivered twists In fact, it bears a striking resemblance to the UK show, Dr. Foster which I am currently watching on Netflix. Infidelity, a love bordering on obsession, and a cast of CRAZY women. Many authors have been compared to Gillian Flynn and I felt that, in this instance, Greer Hendricks actually comes fairly close to walking away with that title.

But I became bored with the extended back story of the main protagonist. I think the epilogue could have been the twist in part 3 and escalated the momentum. I don't want to go into a whole lot of detail because it might be too spoilerish. Suffice it to say, as a reader, I felt it began to play a familiar tune that I am a bit exhausted from reading about.

All in all, the first 40% of the book makes me feel that I will be on the lookout for future books by this author.

Great twists. Just when you think you know what's happening....wow! Great read, I kept reading well into the night to see/read the outcome.

Alot of books claim to be the next "Gone Girl" and " Girl on a Train" and tend to fall flat, this book however stands up to its claim. I devoured this book in two days and the not one,but two twists left me reeling. I loved it and would definitely reccomend.

I picked this book because it just so happened to show up on my Netgalley a few weeks before my ex husband was to be remarried! I wanted to read something that would keep me guessing! I love a good psychological thriller that throws my mind for a total curveball! I love how the author tries to make you think, you may think you are reading about a perfect man and his wonderful new fiancee and hearing the tale of a crazy vengeful jealous ex but that may or not be the case! Perfect for my specific needs at a specific time! I loved the whole ride!

I finished this book a few hours ago and needed to step away to figure out what I would say in a review, particularly since I hate to write reviews that contain spoilers.

First and foremost, if you are inclined to read the book, I strongly recommend you just READ it and not look at any of the reviews.

If you are a fan of <u>Gone Girl</u> or <u>I Let You Go</u>, and probably a lot of others in this genre I know nothing about, I think you’ll enjoy this book. ( I am sure there are enough fans of those books to ensure this hits the best seller list when it is published in 2018.) However, if you don’t like twisty, psychologically dark stories, with unreliable narrators, you should stay away.

I am of the former camp. It took me some effort to get into the book’s first chapters, but I soon found myself propelled through the book wanting to see where it would go next. At the same time, I had to stop and rewind in a couple of places because I made those darn assumptions they warn you about NOT making in the book’s description. By the end, I felt what I heard someone once describe as a "book hangover" - where you finish a book and just don't want to start anything else until you process the wild ride you've just taken.

I struggled with a rating for this book. On one hand, the story was well paced and overall well written, and at the end all the plot lines were nicely resolved. And the TWISTS – while I saw a couple of them coming a mile off, on the big ones, not so much. On the other hand, however, there were a couple of elements that just jarred a bit. On balance, closer to a 4 than not, so that’s what I gave it.

Not unlike the last book I read, The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen deals with a difficult marriage that isn't what it appears to be to outsiders. This marriage has ended and the wife, Vanessa, cannot seem to let it go. Richard has moved on and we watch as Vanessa agonizes over his engagement and all that she has lost. Vanessa is obsessed with stopping Richard's upcoming nuptials and it is driving her nearly mad. She can't eat (an old friend from the past is actually envious of her sudden, extreme weight loss), she can't sleep, and the beloved aunt who has taken her in can't seem to get through to her.

We also get to watch has Richard's young fiancée, Nellie, prepares to become his wife. She will be leaving her best friend and roommate to move to the beautiful house in the suburbs that Richard has picked out for them. She will be leaving her jobs as a waitress and as a preschool teacher with the hopes that she and Richard will be starting their own little family very soon. Yet something feels not quite right. She feels like she is being followed, being watched. There is a woman who keeps appearing just on the edge of her vision and she has Nellie worried.

This book was similar to Behind Closed Doors and also to The Girl on the Train. It took me a little bit to catch on to the mystery, but it was very satisfying when I began to understand. The women in this book are flawed and make terrible decisions, but they are also young and naïve and taken in by a man who isn't what he seems. I am often frustrated when I read about weak women, but I am encouraged when those women grow. This book was entertaining and had me wanting to keep reading. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen and I loved all the twists and turns.

The Wife Between Us is a very cleverly written book with lots of twists and plot moves that you don’t see coming. I can see why it has such high reviews; there are a lot of parallels between this book and books like Gone Girl or The Girl on a Train. The female narrator is unreliable and there are a few different POV’s.

This is the type of book I would normally really enjoy, but I wasn’t blown away by it. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy it a lot and read through it quickly, but there were some parts that I found predictable (the first twist) and I felt that there were some plot elements thrown in as distraction as they ended up not adding to the story. The characters are somewhat clichéd and hard to root for. The ending was also a let down after all the drama and build-up the reader goes through. I was really surprised that it wrapped up the way it did.

Good story overall, but not a whole lot here that stands out.

This is definitely a suspenseful read. You may think you’ve figured out what is going to happen, but then the story does a one-eighty and throws you for a loop. Vanessa is divorced from Richard, yet she can’t seem to move on. Drowning herself in the bottle does more harm than good, causing her to hold onto past memories. If that’s not enough, she discovers Richard is planning to remarry. Her name is Nellie, but who exactly is she, and what is she hiding?

I was positive I knew where this story was going, waiting for the first twist to confirm it, but was in shock instead. It was so unexpected.

I love the twists in this storyline. It digs deep into a web of lies, secrets, manipulation, and betrayal. Once you start this book, be prepared to keep reading. Set aside some time, because you will not want to put it down. This psychological thriller will draw you in from the very first chapter.

I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, and boy, reading the reviews of others, do I ever feel guilty about what I have to say. Indeed, as the description of the book states, "Assume nothing." Don't assume you will be getting some straight up domestic drama with a creepy, controlling sleaze of a husband. Well, to be fair, you will be getting that for the first sixty-five to seventy percent of the book, and that's when it all goes to hell. The author could have had a perfectly good thriller deserving of 3.5-3.75 stars (I rounded up to three here) had she stayed along a linear path and perhaps thrown in a bit more "whodunit." However, the fancy break towards the end, along with the just too good to be true/you've gotta be kidding me coincidence to wrap up the mystery left me disappointed.

Well written plot where you are never quite sure just who the victim is in this story! I couldn't put it down.

This book succeeded for me in all the ways Gone Girl failed. I was able to have empathy and sympathy for some of the characters. Some of the revelations in this book surprised me, while a few were a little too "neat little bow" for my taste, but overall, I really enjoyed this book. The deeper I got into the story, the harder it became to put it down.

Deception. Lies. Duplicity. Betrayal. It’s all here. And it’s magnificent! One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Just as I began to think I’d figured out what was going to happen next...bam! I was slammed by a completely different outcome. I loved that! The characters were relatable and well-developed. Great psychological thriller, my favorite genre. This is sure to top the charts, and it’s one I’ll read again. It’s just that good. Too bad I’m limited to only five stars!

From the prologue's first words and well into the sample pages, the action keeps a tight pace. Always kept guessing, the reader awaits the next twist. Love the writing style! I think this book will please anyone looking for a nicely turned suspense/mystery story.

Not so long ago I had the opportunity to read the first 4 chapters of this book. I was so intrigued I just "had" to get my hands on this one to read it all. So... many thanks to the authors / St. Martin's Books / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy.

My first thought when finishing this book was OH WOW! I sat for a few minutes and then I went back though, flipping pages, stopping at things I thought I knew .. only to find out how wrong my first assumptions had been.

This is such as incredibly well written story ... twists and turns I didn't see coming, could not have guessed where all this was going to take me. And the ending is fantastic!

I only wish I could rate this one with more than 5 stars. It's absolutely one of the best I've read in a really, really long time.

The main character, has a drinking problem and is a antagonistic stalker.
This story shows two wives. The first one makes you wonder what really happen to end their marriage and the second wive is so innocent. There are two perspectives on what kind of man they both have been married to. Which of the two wives will tell us who he really is.
I will not give any spoilers because this books is a must read to know how the book unravels.

I don't give out 5 stars lightly, but it was easy for this one. Kept me guessing and questioning everything throughout the entire book. Fantastic psychological thriller. Loved it and highly recommend.

This book is phenomenal. It's suspenseful, well-paced, and full of twists. Every little detail comes together at the end. I would have been just as pleased if the final twist had been left out, but it was still an interesting little surprise. Would definitely read more books by this writing duo,
