I've been working on submitting some older reviews of the titles on my reading list, and this one caught my attention. This is my generic review for books where too much time has passed for me to recall very specific details, but this is what stood out in my memory. Overall, I found it to be a decent read. The character development is well-executed, giving the story depth and making the characters relatable. The pacing of the narrative is steady, keeping me engaged without feeling rushed or drawn out. While it may not be a standout favorite, it's a solid book
Dive into "The Vicious Deep" and prepare to be swept away by its irresistible voice and gripping narrative. Zoraida Córdova's mastery shines as she crafts a three-dimensional character in Tristan Hart, whose journey from cocky beach-town boy to reluctant merman is as humorous as it is heartfelt. With non-stop action, authentic emotions, and a fresh take on mermaid lore, this book captivates from start to finish. Córdova's vivid world-building, from the vibrant Coney Island setting to the dangerous depths of the sea, immerses readers in a thrilling adventure. "The Vicious Deep" is a must-read for YA fans craving something truly original and unforgettable.
I requested this book because I'm a huge fan of mermaids in all forms of media. When some of my peer bloggers told me how much they loved this new take on mermaids. While I think the concept had potential, I found the pacing was too slow to allow myself to get invested in the story. Also, with the summary, I was hoping the story would be a bit darker than it actually was.
