Fascinating book for adults and children alike. I learned a lot with this book about River's Seas, and Oceans. This book was written for children. It has lots of great pictures and diagrams. It explains the difference between the waters, salt, fresh, and brackish. It tells about the different animals in each water type. It explains the water tables and so much more. This is really a great book for learning about our water.

Rivers, Seas, and Oceans by Mack Gageldonk is a children's non fiction book that is currently scheduled for release on October 1 2017. Most part of our planet consist of water. This book explores the water cycle, the different types of water, and what lives in it. When you read this big book about water you get to know a lot about the most beautiful water spots on earth, and more.

Rivers, Seas, and Oceans explains the basics about the water cycle and the differences between oceans, seas, rivers, and other bodies of water. I like that it did go into some details about the differences between fresh, salt, and brackish water- and the creature that live in each one. Some of the photographs are absolutely beautiful, and I liked the intention of the book. However, some of the execution was lacking. While I normally like when books have questions for their young readers at the end of chapters, I found some of these to be forced or just not fitting well with the text. I felt that there was very little flow to the book, and the drawings did nearly as much as the real photographs did to the book. I think more photographs would have worked better than the illustrations. It could still be a useful classroom book for studying water.

I received this arc from Netgalley for an honest review.
This book is a great resource with information on rivers, seas, and oceans. This would be a good source for book reports and other learning tools. There's a lot of information and could be read straight through or used for bits of information. Lots of great pictures also help explain the facts.

This was a great book and I really enjoyed it - definately one that I would recommend.
Loved the images that were used and the facts/descriptions are ideal, just enough information to encourage you to look into the animals in more detail if interested - 5 stars

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

The cover definitely lured me into requesting this book on Netgalley. :) I always love it when people add doodles to photographs.

This book was pretty decent, not bad, but I also noticed that I was a bit bored while reading it. It just missed something, something that grabs you. It just didn't capture my interest. Even though the topic is one that I was really interested in.

It does have a lot of information about water, from rivers to oceans, canals and dams. A lot of various things are mentioned in this book. They are all split by topic/chapter.

The book is a mix of photographs and doodles. I am not too sure about the doodle puzzles located on every second page. They were interesting (and a fun addition), but a bit too simple (maybe the really tiny kids would like them, but they wouldn't really be able to read the book), plus the style of the doodles is fun to add to photographs, but on its own it lost its magic.

So yeah, a bit of a disappointment, but I am still happy I had the chance to read this book.

Beautiful, beautiful book! I do not see why others are giving it less than five stars. Great pictures; the combination of real life pictures with the drawings makes it interesting and eye catching. The book offers a great deal of information about rivers, seas, and oceans which I think older children will find it a blast to explore on their own. On the other hand, teachers and parents of younger kids can easily use the book as a reference point and only focus on certain topics as to not overwhelm the kids. I think this book can be read and used by kids of all ages and even adults will find it fun and informative to look through the pages. A wonderful and helpful book to add to a home’s or a classroom’s library.

A very informative educational book on the water that makes up a huge majority of the earth's surface. I dont think the author has left anything out of this book - anything you could possibly want to know about water is covered, including the water cycle, types of water, the oceans, notable rivers, and the creatures that inhabit the waters. I particularly like that the author has combined photographs with illustrations, and often in the same pictures. Language is simple and therefore easy to read and take in, yet at the same time there is so information that you'll be able to read this several times over.

This book would be a great introduction to water on earth. It covers so many things, that perhaps it is trying to do a bit much. From a description of the water cycle to definitions of various types of water such as fresh, salt and brackish it then includes so many facts. It talks about specific bodies of water, what you might find living in them, some tidbits about mammals, fish and water life, then off to attractions and even geysers. I think this would be a good book as a jump off to further investigations as there is so much that would peak different people's interests. The illustrations varied. The photographs were nice additions but the doodles or child-like pictures were a bit distracting. Each page also had a little question to ask the listener but some were pretty simple and just regurgitated the information above the question. A good book for a school library.

Starts with a photo of an island with kid drawings of birds, the sun, a boat, fish, etc. added to it. After that it looks more like a textbook, with photos, drawings, fun facts, and little quizzes.
“A penguin is very tasty to an orca.” Don’t know why that made me laugh. And they’re drawn just as cute here, though only when their wings are out. . . then penguins, no the orcas.
After the intro there’s chapters on different kinds of water, oceans, and seas. The contrast between the Carib and the Med seem almost day and night. Iguazu Falls is featured a lot. Yellowstone makes an appearance, as does the Grand Canyon, along with more famous watery places like Venice and Hawaii.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5

Engaging, picture book for young readers. Colorful photographs fill the pages throughout the book. Cute little illustrations of fish, birds and other water critters dot the photos. Well-written, child-friendly paragraphs describing the type of natural water body or man made structure appear on each page (oceans, rivers, canals, waterfalls, harbors, dams, etc.). A bonus is the illustrated "can you find" feature on the bottom of pages. Fun for little learners,

Rivers, Seas, and Oceans is a neat little book that teaches kids about the water cycle, types of water, and specific places of importance. There are stunning photos throughout showing off the various places, and there are goofy little drawings interspersed in and around the pictures that add a certain charm. My cubs quite enjoyed them.

Discussed are types of water- salt, fresh, brackish- and - lakes, rivers, oceans, and falls. Each looks at examples such as Niagara Falls, the Southern Ocean, and Brooks River, along with animals that might be found in the environment. Man-made constructs are topics at the end, looking at harbours, canals, and dams.

My only qualms were that the Kindle file didn't translate properly, and that the Everglades section did not mention alligators. We ended up reading the pdf on my tablet, which showed off the beautiful pictures in full colour.

Informative picture book that covers the water cycle; the difference between fresh water, salt water, and brackish water; as well as explain the difference between bodies of water and even providing examples of each. Sadly I felt the book didn't flow. Reading it felt disjointed and the questions at the end of some sections felt contrived. Another thing I did not appreciate were the doodles the author included. Pictures of the animals would have suited the book's purpose better.
