I thought this was a wonderful book! Gentle guidance through self-reflection, and accountability. Wonderful use of scripture to show that we really need to live for Christ, He is our "Other". There is joy when we surrender our lives to the purposes of a higher calling, and Brent Gambrell clearly outlines how that can be achieved in our lives. When we give up on the dream of chasing things for ourselves, and learn to love and serve others by serving Jesus, the joy is contagious and so is the way of life. Be a funnel and not a puddle!

I am reviewing a copy of Living for Another through Abington Press and Netgalley:
This book points out that we all have our If's, If I only lived in another place....If I only had Another boss/teacher/body personality, I would be happy...If I only had Another spouse/job/car/piece of cake, my life would be complete.
If only has become the mantra of the modern world.
This book goes on to point out what satisfies Christ 1 to do the will of the Father and 2 to finish the Father's work.
We are reminded too that his life is now our life, and what is true about the Vine is true about us.
The author goes on to explain the flesh exalts itself and tries to make everyone else exalted as well, and that those with negatve self image will develop "yucky flesh".
The author reminds us too that in order to live the life, which is his life we must loose our own life.
Gambrel points out that the flesh gratifies and glorifies self while the fruit of the spirit magnifies selflessness and brings glory to God. The book goes on to remind us that joy is intended to be shared.
In this book we are reminded too that a person of wisdom is the sum of all the positives and negatives in life. It is also pointed out that anything God reveals, he intends to heal. We are also reminded that it is worth it to get involved in the lives of others.
Living for One Another reminds us to the importance of loving one another, even though loving one another can be risky, the risk is worth it. We are reminded too of the importance of forgiving one another. Gambrel points out that forgiveness is like whiting out both sides of the pages.
It is also pointed out that of all the instructions Christ has given his followers, submission is the closer to being Christlike than most others. We are reminded too that there is never a point that you can run away from the God who lives in you and through you. The author also tells us that he will know us by our love is only the beginning.
We are reminded that our job is to make the most of what we have for him.
I give Living for One Another five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
