Tense an exciting throughout. Liked the overlap with Whitney, Kelsey and Janie. Great twists and turns. Thanks for the opportunity to read

I totally enjoyed this book from the first page on. It grabbed my attention and kept it until the very end.
Good writing, excellent storyline, and great characters. Everything a good book is supposed to be.

Mark Foster is dealing with a tricky case involving a serial killer. How does a girl who went missing years ago fit in? Lots of small town secrets in this fast paced read.

Two kidnappings, ten years and a few miles apart, rock the small communities in which they occur. Will the Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent Mark Foster, brought in to help with the current disappearance, be able to tie the crimes together? In the course of his investigation, will Foster stumble upon the darker truth of the disappearances?

The biggest problem that I had with Pretty Girls Dancing is that the book adds nothing new or surprising to the mystery/thriller genre. Having read countless titles with similar themes, the novel did not strike a unique tone. The conclusion did not surprise me, as certain plot points clearly directed the story to that end. The author missed an opportunity to give readers a thrilling look into the shadowy world created by the perpetrator. The motivations of that character are not fully explored and the book just fizzles out at the ending. For the reasons listed above, I would be hesitant to recommend Pretty Girls Dancing to other readers.

NetGalley, as well as Thomas & Mercer, provided me with an advanced readers copy of Pretty Girls Dancing. I also used Amazon's Prime Reading to obtain a final copy. I chose to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

Hold on to your hats, Mystery Readers. People who like creepy and suspense, you might want to, too. Kylie Brant weaves an intricate plot, in which she tries something out of the norm from her other thrillers. Labeling several POV characters, throughout Pretty Girls Dancing, she lets you into their lives with deep point of view writing, which after only a few pages, I could not put down. By the time I finished this book, I could have sworn these people were real.

Ms. Brant writes superb teenage characters and if you like YA, you will be drawn in as well. She creates an unlikely cast of down-and-out heroes you'll be following throughout the book. (Guess the teacher and mother of five knows these people.)

In Pretty Girls Dancing, no one is one hundred percent good and no one is one hundred percent bad -- well..... I don't do spoilers. But the list of suspects is long, which is why I say mystery readers will LOVE this.

I read for emotion and to see good triumph over evil. In Pretty Girls Dancing, Kylie Brant delivers. I received an advanced reader copy of this book and I gladly give it five stars for its uniqueness, scintillating writing and twists and turns I never saw coming.

A good read, with an engaging plot. The characters are realistic, but I couldn't work out what the point of having Kelsey's sister with social anxiety - it seemed there was something else to this, but not. Quite a twist at the end, that came with a change of pace that had me a little lost.

This was a good serial killer/murder mystery story. I loved that the story was compelling and unpredictable. There were so many suspects that I honestly had no clue who the killer was until the revealing. There were a few things, however, that prevented me from giving this a 5 star review. First, the story is told from five points of view. The storytelling from Whitney's point of view was annoying to me. She constantly refers to her captor as "the freak" which seemed contrived and unrealistic. It was almost like the author was trying too hard to sound like a 14 year old girl. Second, it was obvious that some of the non-guilty suspects were definitely guilty of something but we never find what becomes of them. Third, there is one question that still nags at me. Where did Kelsey get paper and pen to write about her captivity? Overall, I did really enjoy it and would definitely read more by this author.

2.5 stars
I'm not sure how exactly to talk about this book without giving spoilers. Overall, I was incredibly interested in the premise, in the kidnapped girls and who took them, and how everything was going to resolve. And then it did.
I thought this was a great book until the villain was revealed. It made NO sense to me and downgraded what I thought was a decent book up until that point. I could come up with about 5 other suspects throughout the book who would have been more plausible and a much better fit and ultimately more surprising than the one the author chose.
That said, I loved the character of Janie and her growth throughout the novel. She is awesome.

Summary from Goodreads:

"Years ago, in the town of Saxon Falls, young Kelsey Willard disappeared and was presumed dead. The tragedy left her family with a fractured life—a mother out to numb the pain, a father losing a battle with his own private demons, and a sister desperate for closure. But now another teenage girl has gone missing. It’s ripping open old wounds for the Willards, dragging them back into a painful past, and leaving them unprepared for where it will take them next.
Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent Mark Foster has stumbled on uncanny parallels in the lives of the two missing girls that could unlock clues to a serial killer’s identity. That means breaking down the walls of the Willards’ long-guarded secrets and getting to a truth that is darker than he bargained for. Now, to rescue one missing girl, he must first solve the riddles that disappeared with another: Kelsey Willard herself. Dead or alive, she is his last hope."
My Thoughts:
Pretty Girls Dancing was a book that I was instantly pulled into from almost the very first page. It wasn't an easy read by any means due to the subject matter but it was very compelling and hard to put down. One of the things that this author did really well was make me think even if it wasn't always comfortable to do so. There was this moment where Kelsey's mom thinks about how if she knew that she had limited moments with her that she might have appreciated them more (I'm paraphrasing here but you get the gist) - and doesn't that just hit you in the gut? Because how easy is it as a parent to get overwhelmed or swept away by life and not appreciate the every day moments with your children? I know that it struck me and is something that I will keep turning back to in the next few weeks. The mystery portion of this book was done so well! I loved that as the reader we were left wondering about Kelsey's fate while also worrying about Whitney who had just recently disappeared. The book is told in multiple viewpoints - from Janie (Kelsey's sister), Kelsey's Mom and Dad, the main detective on the case, and then Whitney herself. Whitney's chapters were honestly the hardest to read. This might be considered as a slight spoiler but we get to witness exactly what she is going through while missing. Plus, there is this constant layer of tension and danger as I was forced to wonder what next and would she be found in time. The suspense and tension in this book was constant throughout but those last one hundred and fifty pages - well it was just intense! I stayed up way too late on a work night but it was completely worth it. This isn't a book that I will be forgetting about soon and an author that I cannot wait to read more of!

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with this book and am so excited to have found this author! It wasn't always an easy for me to read as a parent but it was just so compelling that I couldn't put it down. I love that this author has a bunch of other books for me to check out and look forward to! I've been reading a lot of thrillers and mysteries as of late - this is a book that really stood out and was different than the others I've been reading. Don't get me wrong - it is a mystery but I just felt that it was also something more. A book that makes me think and self evaluate as a parent is a really good read in my opinion. I can easily recommend this book to other readers but especially to mystery and thriller fans.

Bottom Line: A suspenseful and thrilling read that will stick with me for a while!

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.

This was my first book by Kylie Brant, but it won't be my last.

I'm lucky in that I have no triggers when reading. I love the dark thrillers, the more mayhem the better. I love being sucked in from the very first page and never let go.

The characters were all believable, some you'll like and some you'll love to hate. I'm not sure how I feel about each character getting their own chapter(s), but it worked in this book.

There's kidnapping, murder, abuse (both physical and mental), a few heartbreaking moments, and some you go girl moments. I love it when I think I have it figured out and BAM I'm hit with the truth and its not what I thought!

I'm looking forward to ready more of Kylie's books.

This book was good! It was not quite what I expected it to be but still very intriguing. I solved the mystery pretty earlier on (pat on the back for me) but I wasn't always completely convinced that I had it figured out. Brant kept me guessing sometimes, and that kept me reading, so, pat on the back for her.

The plot is interesting enough but if you are into psychological thrillers that really keep you guessing and just swing the ending to you right out of left field when you least expect it, this one might not be for you. It's still worth a read though if you're looking for a lighter thriller with a good story and multiple POVs.

Well written with POV of five characters. I just didn't care for the dark subject matter.

What a fabulous book. This was my first by this author, but it certainly won't be my last. 5 Stars!!!

2.5 wish it could have been better stars.

Unfortunately, this was not the book for me. While its premise was good, that of a kidnapper/murderer/psychopath taking girls who were into ballet, the execution of this story was dull and at times haphazard.

The book was presented by contrasting, in alternate chapters a family who lost their daughter seven years ago, not yet found, and a family just twelve miles away who have just lost their daughter. The chapters are presented in alternate voices and details which connect the families, their secrets, and their present day lives. The police are convinced that this crime has been committed by a person who has taken many girls over the years, some of which have been found, being dressed in tutus and ballet attire.

So, sorry to say for me the character were flat, and what could have been an unusual topic for a thriller turned out to be just mediocre.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and netgalley for a digital copy of this novel.

This book grabbed my attention with several parallel plot lines - all very engaging. You get a raw and unedited view of how a family can totally destruct after a tragedy and present a facade so no one can tell. The dynamics of old tragedies versus new can make you wonder what you might do. And what evil can lurk right in front of your eyes. You will wonder how much to really trust your spouse.
