This book had me shook from page one and that’s saying a lot for this being my first Danielle Steel book. I’ve now become a fan, and I believe anything can happen if you believe.
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
What can I say about this book?
The author took me on a journey + I am not sure if I wanted to stop.
I cried + I laughed
This story truly reminded me of Cinderella ( No doubt ! )
I was rooting for Camille through the whole book.
I loved the ending.
Another winner for Danielle Steel!! She is such an amazing storyteller, with so many details that you feel like you are there with her. I anticipate her next novel!! This is a true enchanting Fairytale!!
Christophe & Joy are deeply in love, with each other, with the life & the renowned winery they have built from the ground up, with their chateau they built that was modeled after Christophe family estate in Bordeaux & also with their daughter, Camille. After two decades together, Christophe & Camille must face a life without their beloved Joy. She succumbed to a cancer she had previously beaten. Both father & daughter are devastated by their loss. Their seemingly fairytale life has ended.
After her mother's death, Camille continued working with her father in the winery & living with him in their chateau. Her lifelong goal after graduating from Stanford had been to work in the winery for a few years then go on to graduate school, so she could one day, run the winery as successfully as her parents were.
Christophe was very depressed, lost & lonely after losing his precious Joy. Only six short months after Joy's death, Christophe meets & falls for a sophisticated, elegant & seductive Frenchwoman, the Countess de Pantin. Within a few weeks time she has him entranced with her, as she slowly weaves her web. Christophe wants to keep the new relationship secret, at least until the one year anniversary of his wife's death.
Camille is shocked & hurt to discover that her father plans on marrying the countess just days after the first anniversary of her mother's death. She sees beyond the countess's sophistication, but her father cannot. Camille sees how calculating & deceitful the countess is. She puts all these feelings aside to adjust & support her father with his new marriage.
Within a few months living as one family, tragedy strikes. Camille must face her evil stepmother & stepbrothers. She must fight for her legacy-the winery & the chateau or lose it to the countess. Camille's only allies are her step-grandmother & a childhood friend. Maybe Camille will find her own prince & live out her fairytale.
"The tides were coming in so fast she felt like she would drown" -Fairytale by Danielle Steel
Fairytale is the new release by author Danielle Steel, and once again, she does not disappoint. This is a modern day version of the classic Cinderella story, but with a few added twists.
Christophe Lammenais always knew he would own his own vineyard someday, as making wine is in his genes. His family has been making famous wines in Bordeaux for many centuries. He goes to Stanford to take graduate classes in viticulture and oenology, and this is where he meets the love of life, Joy. Not only does he fall in love with Joy, but he also falls in love with Napa Valley. They soon marry, and they begin to build their life together at their vineyard in Napa. He builds a house on the property reminiscent of his homeland, and they call it Château Joy. Joy gets pregnant, and they have a beautiful daughter named Camille. As the years pass, they continue to grow the family business and their life is everything they wanted it to be.
As we all know, all good things come to an end. Everything changes during the summer when Camille turned seventeen. Camille is accepted at Stanford, and Joy, who is forty-four years old, is diagnosed with breast cancer. Her treatments are successful and Joy gets through it. She is in remission for five years, and during a routine mammogram, she is once again diagnosed with breast cancer. This time, she doesn't survive.
Life without Joy becomes quite an adjustment for Christophe and Camille. Camille steps into the role her mother had running the family business, and overseas the day to day operations while her dad focuses on the wine making.side of the business. Life goes on, but it isn't easy for either of them.
Christophe attends a vintners dinner, and this is where he meets the beautiful Countess de Pantin (Maxine). Maxine is persistent, and Christophe quickly falls under her spell. The two begin secretly dating, and on the one year anniversary of Joy's death, Christophe tells Camille that he is marrying Maxine. Of course, Camille is not only hurt by the sudden news, but she is also skeptical of Maxine and her motives. Unfortunately, Camille's instincts are correct!
The story that unfolds is truly heartbreaking for Camille. I could go into more details, but I do not want to reveal too much of the story. Maxine is truly the horrible stepmother, and her son's are even worse than the stepdaughters in the original Cinderella. The only positive thing to come out of the marriage is Maxine's eighhty-seven-year-old mother, Simone. Simone sees right through Maxine, and to say they have a strained relationship is an understatement. Simone and Camille instantly bond, and their relationship is one that is truly genuine. Simone is Camille's fairy godmother, and so much more.
This is truly an amazing story. It is filled with love, romance, heartache and heartbreak. It is also a story about survival and not giving up. The relationship between Camille and Simone is brilliantly written and completely heartfelt. I was literally shocked at the extent Maxine was willing to go to in order to get what she wants. Evil stepmother does not even due her justice. Danielle Steel does an amazing job with the portrayal of Maxine, as I truly hated her and all she stood for. The quote at the beginning of my review stayed with me throughout the story. Camille is a strong woman, one that puts up with far more than needed. She may have felt like she was drowning at times, but she always managed to keep her head above water, despite the difficulties she was facing.
Overall, I feel Danielle Steel perfectly weaves together the classic Cinderella story with a modern day twist. This story invoked a wide range of emotions while reading it, which is a testament to the author's writing style. I loved following the journey of Camille, through good and bad times, and I hope you love this story as much as I did.
I would like to thank Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this book. My views are my own and are in no way influenced by anyone else.
I have read many Danielle Steel
and honestly enjoy some more than others.
The premise for this one intrigued me.
A young couple moving to Napa Valley starting making wine
has a young daughter... living happily
Then at 44, Breast Cancer changes her life
Friend also gets diagnosis ...double mastectomy and no family history.
I felt all of the Cancer journey, reminded me of mine.
Then the Cinderella story comes in and I lost some interest.
Story did wrap around quickly to my interest again.
BROOKE’S REVIEW
In this newest tale by Steel, the queen of romance tells a Cinderella story set in Napa. Golden child Camille has adoring parents, who live on a picturesque chateau and working vineyard. Her world starts to unravel, however, once her mother dies and her father falls for a femme fatale from France.
The plot is formulaic, but this is what readers should expect from a Danielle Steel novel. In some of her newer books, the plots have included more character depth than the purely “good” and “evil” archetypes that are built out in this work. Perhaps it is that the author leans too heavily on the fairy tale formula to create more complex characters. Still, it’s a readable book that will likely please fans.

Thank you net galley for this arc of Fairytale. A quick snuggle read for the evening which did have me saying "don't do it" from the sidelines! Although they never listen they all seemed to find their way. Updated versions of a long ago story that always seems to repeat itself. Great job!
This a typical Danielle Steel book. If you have read any of her books you will know what happens beginning to end...I've read all her books so I guess it's a normal reflex to get her newest book and read it. This was a modern twist on the fairytale (?) Cinderella with a wicked stepmother and horrible step siblings and her fairy godmother being her stepmother"s mother crazy as she is.....She was the best part of the book........D.S. uses many, many, many words to describe such simple things......I'm still going to keep reading her books, why I don't know
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I feel all Danielle Steel books are the same and could be told in 100 pages or less. They are so repetitive and she says the same thing over and over. This book did intrigue me, however, as I wanted to know what would be Camille's fate. A little predictable.
I really couldn't get into this novel. I felt like characters were passed over so quickly, there was no full development. I found myself uninterested in the direction the book was taking.
I felt like this book was very slow and predictable. I did plow through it but didn't find that it kept my interest, it was a chore to read. I like my characters to be more raw and real. This story is loosely based upon Cinderella I believe, so maybe Ms Steele meant it to be a simple story. It was not one of my favorites of hers.
Pretty standard Danielle Steel fare with a evil stepmother twist. Short on dialogue, long on description.
This book is a modern day Cinderella story set in the beautiful Napa Valley. Camille the daughter who lost her mother. She did gain a wicked step-mother and 2 evil stepbrothers. Just like any other fairy tale this one also has a fairy tale ending. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick light read
Danielle Steel was one of the first romance writers that I ever read when my Mom deemed me "old enough" :) Fairytale is now on the list of my favorites with No Greater Love and Zoya. I will not write reviews with spoilers but I am bubbling over with everything I want to say about Fairytale. Its classic Danielle Steel: excellent writing, characters that pull you right into their story and (of course) the beautiful settings so often found in her stories. Put simply: Danielle Steel is a master of her craft and I love her Fairytale.
Danielle Steel tells the best stories! This is a modern day Cinderella tale. It includes an evil stepmother, wicked stepbrothers and, of course, a prince and a fairy godmother. Camille's mother, Joy, who is dearly loved, dies. After some time, her father, Chris marries a so-called countess, who seems to have bewitched him. A tragedy follows, Camille is devastated and is in danger of losing everything, her home and the winery. But, sometimes, fairytales do come true and good wins over evil.
This latest release from Danielle Steel was a good, easy read. I enjoyed the story and the modern take on the classic Cinderella tale. However, I thought the first half of the book was very slow reading while the second half flew by. If you can push through the first half, you are in for a treat the rest of the book.
A Danielle Steel book has many facets to it. I have read most of them. This one was wonderful, full of family love, sadness due to death, betrayal, more loss and a great ending. Sometimes you find love where you least expect it and find it's been right in front of you all along, you just weren't ready for it. This story was riveting. I could not put it down until I finished it. Danielle Steel has done it again and put out a great read. I will highly recommend it to my friends.
True to the title, this is an adult fairytale. It made me feel like a child again reading, but with adult situations. Loved the story and would love to read a sequel.
Danielle Steel's novels always take me to a world that I will never experience. Fairytale did just that. It drew me in completely from the beginning. The characters were infuriating at times. I wanted to throttle Maxine and shake Camille. It took me through all range of emotions. Loved it! Thank you to NetGalley and Delacorte Press for a review copy of this great read.
Fabulous. You really get drawn into the Cinderella story line. It's still amazing to know the details of Cinderella and are still surprised by the freshness of the writing. One of my new favorite book by Ms. Steel.
