The Doll House is one helluva good book! I was on the edge of my seat through most of it. I didn't want to put the book down for anything. Brilliant storytelling; the pacing was spot on and the characters were fantastic. I'm going to go stalk this author now...

My 5* review for The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan, which I downloaded from NetGalley.

"Corinne’s life might look perfect on the outside, but after three failed IVF attempts it’s her last chance to have a baby. And when she finds a tiny part of a doll house outside her flat, it feels as if it’s a sign. But as more pieces begin to turn up, Corinne realises that they are far too familiar. Someone knows about the miniature rocking horse and the little doll with its red velvet dress. Someone has been inside her house…How does the stranger know so much about her life? How long have they been watching? And what are they waiting for…?"

I absolutely loved this book right from the first page, it intrigued me, scared me and kept me reading late into the night because I was so eager to find out what was going to happen to Corinne next. It was unlike some of the other psychological thrillers because this appeared to be just an ordinary family of Corinne, her husband Dominic and her sister Ashley and her husband James, and made you fully engage with them all and wonder how you would react if something similar happened to you. The clues were all there scattered throughout the book and I did eventually work out some of what was happening, but the ending was still a lovely suspenseful surprise for me and kept me on the edge of my seat.

I can't wait to read something else by Phoebe Morgan, if this is her excellent standard of writing.

I was given this ARC by the publisher in return for an honest review.
I guess with this book began my search for new contemporary adult mystery/thriller stories; something I could read and get lost in when I’m not in the mood for YA, cozy murder mystery or fantasy. I was excited and happy to have been approved to read a book that already had such a great reputation. Sadly, this was also not the end of said search.
I couldn’t relate to the protagonist at all. She was in a place in her life that I will never be and never want to be. That fact had me struggling and ultimately failing to see past the character’s internal struggle that took up a considerable chunk of the story. She felt too depressing and disconnected from the story.
The plot got too tangled up in the above-mentioned internal struggle that I thought wasn’t really that necessary in a story that was meant to be a thriller/mystery. I understand that a certain amount of backstory is needed to make the characters appear realistic, but in this case it made the protagonist overly melancholic and took away from the intrigue the synopsis promised it would offer.
The narration focused too much on everything but the mystery part, which was rather disappointing for someone looking for an engaging mystery/thriller story.
Overall, it was not what I had hoped it would be. It was a disappointing and honestly did not make me feel very good. It’s a pass for me.

This was a very good psychological thriller about two sister's and the person who has been stalking them and their family for years. I really liked all of the characters and the suspense leading up to the explosive ending was quite good. I look forward to more books by this author.

I received an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley. This book had me from the very beginning. I love that it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I would highly recommend this book to my fellow readers. Thank you for the chance to review this book!!!!

This is definitely just a case of a book not being what I was looking for, but this book is marketed as a dark and fast-paced psychological thriller, which is not what I've gotten. Instead, I've gotten two perspectives: one being Corrine, whose only ongoing thought process is her struggle with infertility, and the other being her sister, whose chapters are all solely revolving around her cranky infant daughter and the fact that her husband seems to be having an affair. I was just very bored, and I don't particularly enjoy the writing voice, either.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this brilliantly written book. I started the book this morning, and honestly forgot about the world around me.... It had me hooked from beginning to end, and I did not expect the ending at all! Wow, well done.

I enjoyed this for what it was, a slow burning psychological mystery. This is not something I normally read and the pacing really brought it down for me. However, the ending packed quite a punch and I think this author will see a lot of fans in the future.

A tightly wound thriller that keeps you guessing up until the end. I would recommend his book for fans of Ruth Ware and Gillian Flynn.

It is a pretty solid debut from Phoebe Morgan. I was initially drawn by the cover and the title, but it is the synopsis that promised a good mystery story. The Doll House is sure an intriguing psychological thriller mixed in with family drama but it didn’t wow me as I hoped it would. But there is so much more to it, the stalking and the secrets, and it’s what I find engaging. Despite the slow start and repetitive dialogues and monologues, it still managed to grab my attention until the end. There are enough mystery and suspense to keep me engaged in the story even though it is somewhat predictable. It is a well-written creepy novel about family secrets and revenge, with twists and turns that some might find surprising.

I heard so many good things about this book and then I started to read it and over a month later I’m not even halfway through the book. Maybe I’m in a bit of a book slump but sadly this just didn’t hold my attention. Maybe I will try picking it up again in the future. Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

I would never have guessed that this was a debut novel. I was hooked from the first page and the intrigue just grew and grew. By the end I felt like the main characters, sisters Corinne and Ashley, were actually real, they had been described so sublimely.

We follow the sisters lives in alternate chapters. Both are inwardly struggling whilst trying to juggle marriage, families, health concerns and also grieving for the loss of their beloved father.

Interspersed within the family drama a third narrative appears. It is chilling and unnerving, the voice of a troubled soul with her own story to tell.

How are the characters linked?

Where is the mysterious childhood Doll House, built so lovingly by their father, when the girls were young?

What secrets is their mother trying to hide?

I got lost in this book, it was hard to put down and easily one of the best psychological thrillers published last year.

I will definitely be reading more from Phoebe Morgan, for a debut this novel is outstanding and comes highly recommended.

Completely unsettling and I absolutely loved every flipping second of it. I honestly am blown away that this is this authors debut novel. The description and suspense that was woven into this book was masterfully done. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I was excited to read this book, but I was expecting it to be terrifying (like a scary movie)...and it was just mostly bland. I will admit, I had a SUPER hard time getting into this book. So I didn't really pay attention, mostly mindlessly skimming over words. It's wasn't until I was 75% through it that I got interested. If it hadn't been for my need to review this book, I probably would've started something else.

The Doll House is told from multiple perspectives. While I usually like that type of book, this was was difficult to keep straight. I felt like the story could've been much shorter...it seemed to drag on. Maybe I just had a difficult time relating to the characters.

This is a brilliant thriller which I will remember for a long time. Corinne and her sister Ashley are being tormented by someone who knows them. They both doted on their father who died a year ago. There is another storyteller who appears to have been watching the girls her whole life and is connected to the family. I found it a very tense story. Well done to the author!

I liked this. This was a quick and easy read that only took me a couple of days reading an hour here and an hour there.

I think I'm falling into a rut with all these psychological thrillers I've been reading lately. They are all starting to blend together and it's starting to drive me nuts. I would like to say this book was clever, but it's just like all the other ones I've read.

That doesn't make it bad though, I really couldn't put this down. I think my negative thoughts on this are my own fault - I need to switch up my genre a little bit.

I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a fast-paced read. It had a good story line and a creepy undertone to the story.

Thanks again to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy. :)

The Doll House completely took me by surprise, its creepy - oh so creepy and unsettling and thats everything a good thriller should be. We meet Corinne who looks like she has the perfect life, a big family but after failed IVF attempts - this is her last shot, its everything she wants but her boyfriend thinks she is loosing her grip. When little bits of the Doll House she had as a child keep turning up (and vanishing) no one really beileves her and thinks its the toll of the IVF.

Ashley has 3 children, a busy house & a loving husband. However - again, from the outside everything looks perfect, but with a husband staying out later and later. A little baby that will not settle, and a daughter who is changing in front of her eyes. She really doesnt have interest in the little doll house pieces.

Two sisters who are fighting their own lives, and dealing with the overwhelming grief of their dads death, with the anniversary drawing closer - its almost like life is throwing some major challenges at them, but its not life - its someone.

The dollhouse is slightly terrifying, odd and like i mentioned creepy. It is all written and told brilliantly - i thought i had it all worked out and sat quite smugly having got the answers to realise a few pages later that i didnt. For the most parts the characters were well written, i mean sometimes i got frustrated with them, espeically Corinne as i just wanted her to take action, but when you are scared its not that simple and i think i had to remind myself of that.

This was a wonderful read and i ended up staying up way past bedtime to finish it, i also made myself unsettled and edgy and really struggled to sleep as the narrative stuck with me.

A solid 4/5

3.5 stars.

This kept me wanting to read page after page after page. Most books such as this I find I have a feeling of what's going on, an idea of who's who. But with this book I just couldnt work it out. When the twist happened there were actually two of them just pages apart! I did not see it coming. The story is about 2 sisters mainly but there is also a 3rd secretive narrator. The whole time I could not figure out who this person is or what was really going on. But by the end of it, it all made sense and that is what made this such an enjoyable read. This is defiantly a great if you are in the mood for a thriller.

Interpersonal tensions, a family's dark past, and promises of revenge all come together in Phoebe Morgan's The Doll House.  Although this book has a few interesting twists, it is more of a family drama than a tense thriller.

The story is mostly divided between the stories of two sisters: Corinne and Ashley.  Of the two, I far preferred Ashley.  Ashley, a mother of three, worked hard to keep up with the demands of her family.  Dealing with a cranky baby, a curious grade schooler, and a rebellious fifteen-year-old are almost more than she can handle.  Still, when life gets tough, she's ready to meet the challenge.  I thoroughly liked this character and admired her for persevering.

On the other hand, Corinne drove me crazy.  I understand that she was dealing with a lot - infertility is no joke - but every time something challenged her, she fell to pieces.  She ran to her husband over every, small thing.  She was no more than a frightened child, and I had no respect for her.  I had hoped that she would eventually gain some moxie, but she never did.

The story itself was interesting, but events unfolded slowly.  This wasn't a quick-paced book.  The ending was exciting, but the first 80% of the book was more about family relationships and what was going on in Ashley and Corinne's lives.  That didn't make the book bad, but I was expecting a taut thriller, and this wasn't it.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and am giving it three out of five stars.

I would give this book 3.25 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed the book overall but I didn't enjoy the ending and found the story pretty predictable.

I found this novel to be more family drama than thriller. The novel, overall, lacked the suspense I was expecting.

If you enjoy more literary based thrillers than you should check this book out.
