If you read my review of Alpha Crew on 8/28 where I said I’d be immediately reading Cover of Night and were waiting for that review and thought: OMG, it must be horrible if it’s taken her this long. Nope. I read Cover of Night that evening and loved it. It’s just that I also read two books since then and life is CRAZY!

First off, Cover of Night is a novella coming in at around 166 pages according to Amazon. That seems to be a fixation for some readers regarding that, but not for this one.

I plowed through Cover of Night. Like Alpha Crew (and almost any Laura Griffin book), Cover of Night zooms right into the action. Karly is on a boat after snorkeling and people start being killed around her. She manages to send off a message and then must swim for her life.

In comes our band of Navy SEALS, with Ethan finding and rescuing Karly.

There was an immediate connection between Ethan and Karly, although she did rebuff him and did not immediately pursue a relationship with him. Some writers could have easily just followed a formula, but Griffin doesn’t, ever. Even in a novella, the characters have their own personalities and quirks.

For me, romances that occur in romantic suspense can be quick to come about but believable because I think that people under the stress experience heightened emotions. They may trust and permit themselves to be more emotional than they would in just everyday situations.

There is almost non-stop action in Cover of Night, which keeps the reader glued to the book. Even with its short-length, I felt satisfied when I reached the end, but also wished I could immediately read the next one.

Cover of Night is available on September 4, 2017. Time to get your Laura Griffin fix.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cover of Night is a fast paced, action packed, sexy romance that was a joy to read. The chemistry between Ethan and Karly was sizzling and I loved them together. I enjoyed Karly's tenacity and determination and Ethan's pure alpha goodness. This one has a perfect blend of action and romance. Don't miss It! I highly recommend.

Karly is on her first journalistic mission when things go terribly wrong. When her distress call for help is intercepted by a SEAL's team she finds herself in the thick of things when the team tries to extract all the hostages. Ethan realizes quickly that without Karly's help things could go bad fast.

With action at the beginning and again towards the end. There was enough to enjoy and keep me engaged throughout. Along with two likable characters and a sweet romance. Cover of Night was a good read. Yet I do wish it had been longer and the terror plotline more developed. However I would still recommend it to others. Especially if you love a alpha hero. Who also happens to be a SEAL . A brave and smart heroine and some insta love.

This is the 3rd installment of the Alpha Crew series, but can also be read as a standalone story. This is also the 4th book that I have read from this author this year and love the adrenaline, intensity and fast pace of her stories.

The Alpha Crew is a group of Navy Seals who do their job to protect and serve their country. They are in a resort area to try to save lives as there is a hostage situation involving terrorist. Ethan is one of the Seals who finds Karly, a journalist, who was at the resort to conduct an interview with a US Ambassador who is now a hostage. Karly had escaped the flying bullets of the terrorists before Ethan finds her. She is determined to help the Seals as she believes her familiarity with the area will be valuable to their mission. Ethan is impressed at her ability to "hold it together" given what she has gone through, and he is feeling a connection. They follow through with the mission, but there are new challenges that follow them.

Ethan hasn't forgotten Karly and follows her on there way home and the two share a night together that affects both of them, but both feel they cannot have a relationship because of their careers. Their paths cross again and so does more trouble. The two spring into action to try to thwart the threat and to make sure they will survive so they can be honest about their feelings for each other.

What I enjoyed about this book was how fast paced this was. I read in one sitting and you were immediately propelled into a wild, intense adventure that did not idle. However, my only disappointment was that the story was too short. I understand that this was part of a series highlighting a group of Alpha Seals, but there could have been more content to the story.

This was a great fast read, from the author of the Tracers series. This is a series of novellas, and is different from Tracers in the fact that it is more action and excitement instead of suspense and mystery, but sometimes that what I want and I will happily read the next in the series.

Title and author: Cover of Night by Laura Griffin
Series: Alpha Crew - Book 3

Genre: Suspense

Once again, a SEAL team faces danger and puts their own lives on the line to save other people from harm. The Alpha Crew series is about a group of men who are tough and ready to tackle any risks, and when a member encounters a particular woman, his protective instincts are often all about her. I have always enjoyed reading about these courageous individuals and the women who come to love them, and this novella series has plenty of suspense and romance to keep me entertained. COVER OF NIGHT by the talented Laura Griffin has frightening scenarios that are realistically depicted with lots of danger and genuine emotions.

When the magazine where Karly Bonham is employed decides to send her to Thailand, she hopes writing an article on the U.S. ambassador to that country will hopefully showcase her talent. All goes well and her assignment is coming to an end, then her last day turns deadly when men use force to take over the resort where she is staying. Now Karly must do whatever she can to stay alive.

After hearing an unknown number of hostages are being held by terrorists, Alpha Crew members are sent to the area. While the SEAL team is gathering intel on the situation, Ethan Dunn comes across Karly who so far has avoided any of the men carrying guns. When he tries to send her away for her own protection, she insists on staying and giving the SEALs needed information. Though Ethan does not like agreeing to her offer, the needs of the other hostages outweigh those of Karly because there is little time left to make a final choice on how they proceed.

While the storyline does not give in-depth details because of the book’s shorter length, there is still enough information conveyed to let me know what is going on and why. Terrorists are threatening people at a resort, and there is no time to wait or more lives could be lost. Ethan and his team members must act swiftly, and Karly becomes caught up in their mission because of her resourcefulness. I liked her determination to carry on even though she was actually scared. The author shows Karly as being vulnerable, yet her sharp mind never stops working on a solution to keep her and others safe all throughout the story. Ethan has dedicated his life to making sure those who would hurt someone never get the chance to carry out their goal. As crucial decisions are made, regardless of where the action is taking place, the suspense of what will eventually happen keeps building. The romance between Karly and Ethan is at first based on desire because of emotional situations that they experienced together. But lingering thoughts of each other turn their attraction into more than something momentary. The author shows their connection is more than sexual, especially in how much Ethan cares about Karly’s welfare. COVER OF NIGHT interweaves perilous escapades with unexpected love.

I quite enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and non stop.,having said that I find that it ended abruptly and I would have like a bit more story to see how they tried to make it work.

This is yet another Novella length book rather than a full length novel in the Alpha Crew series by the Author which I find a touch disappointing ......
But it is a sexy romantic suspense book that was a quick and enjoyable read .

Journalist Karly Bonham is on her first overseas mission, covering the new United States ambassador to Thailand , when their hotel complex is attacked by Terrorists .
Whilst those not killed at the outset are taken hostage Karly manages to escape from her dive boat into the jungle on the outskirts of complex , waiting to see if she can aid the Ambassador and his teenage daughter .
The outside world is alerted to the situation and the Alpha Crew is sent in to reconnoiter before a full scale rescue attempt can be made .
Alpha Crew Seal Ethan Dunn soon discovers Karly and with his team mates and her intel of the Complex they rescue the hostages ..... but one man escapes , the leader of the Terrorists known as X .
Whilst Karly feels the heat between herself and Ethan she is determined that after one passionate night they should not take their relationship further . But Ethan is persistent and keeps trying to arrange a date whenever he is stationed near her .
It is only when Karly finds herself in danger that she reconsiders her relationship with Ethan .
The situation soon escalates with both Karly and Ethan striving to survive the danger surrounding them .

I found they ending to this book far too quick and short .. and the solution to X unsatisfactory .... how does the ending relate to the puzzles of the previous books in the series ???
I will however , on balance , continue to read all the books written by the Author as I find them a light enjoyable read .

In this story we have Ethan Dunn from the Alpha Crew and Karly Bonham. Karly a reporter is dong a cover story on an American ambassador to Thailand, when on a boat, terrorists attack the island she is on and kills most of the people there, taking the remaining survivors hostage. She is able to send out an SOS before the boat she is on blows up. The Alpha Crew is dispatched to do some recon work. Ethan and the rest of his crew arrive and Ethan finds Karly alive. Together they are able to save the hostages, take the bad guys into custody and fly safely away. There is chemistry between the two and they share a passionate night, however it is another 5 weeks before they see each other again. Karly is afraid of getting into a long distance relationship, especially after what happened with her last relationship. The story is well written, but very short. It seems that everything happens so fast and in a very short amount of time. It is full of action, sex scenes, bad guy gets caught and then tied up very quickly with Ethan leaving in the morning and them trying a long distance relationship. Ends in a HFN. 3.5 stars...

Absolutely loved this story and the way that the story turns out. I couldn't have imagined anything better than what the author delivered in spades. She knows how to grab your attention and not let go at all and makes you want more so much more from this series. If I could give this book more stars it would definitely have to be 10 of them. Just fantastic, loved it. Would totally recommend this to everyone, you won't be disappointed at all I promise you.

Two and a half stars.

This is very different from Laura's other series and not recommended for readers of Tracers as it just doesn't have the same tension or plot density. I think the biggest problem for me is that I can feel Laura trying to write a bigger, deeper plot and then being held back, or holding herself back, which leads to this reader feeling a bit confused and disappointed.

Karly Bonham is a journalist spending time on a luxury island resort with the US Ambassador to Thailand and his daughter as they holiday whilst writing a cover story for her magazine. Returning from a day-long boat trip Karly sees men with guns on the beach and is horrified when her companions and the boat's crew are gunned down before her eyes. She manages to make a short call alerting the authorities before swimming to shore.

Ethan Dunn is part of a small group of Navy SEALs inserted onto the island as a result of Karly's message, they are there to provide reconnaissance for a larger team to rescue the Ambassador and other guests and staff from the ACB terrorists who have taken them hostage.

Much like the previous books in this new series half of the action takes place on the island and is full of tension and SEAL bravery, then the action returns to San Diego where the pace and focus suddenly shifts to more mainstream romance rather than your typical military-romance or romantic-suspense. And then the ending bish-bash-bosh, if my Kindle version gave me pages I would tell you how few pages were used to wrap up the plot compared to sightseeing in Manila, for example, okay, I've checked and the entire plot gets wrapped up in a four minute (to read) chapter!

Overall, I just don't think Laura Griffin is clear what she wants to do with this series or how she wants to write it. I love her Tracers series and I want her to succeed at this series too but at the moment it isn't hanging together properly.

Another good book by Laura Griffin. I just loved her writing. I feel as though I'm right there with all the action. It's a short story that is fast paced. It has international intrigue and lots of heated moments.

Cover of Night by Laura Griffin is the 3rd book in her Alpha Crew series. The story begins with a bang. Karly Bonham, our heroine, is on assignment as an entertainment reporter to interview the Ambassador in Thailand at an exclusive resort. On Karly’s last day, she enjoys herself with all those she has met. When she is on a boat, she sees an attack happening on the beach, with gunfire everywhere, including terrorists heading for the boat she is on. After seeing a few of her new friends get killed, Karly panics and jumps into the ocean. She will try to use her phone to call for help.

Ethan Dunn is an elite member of the Alpha Crew Seal team. He and three of his team hear the call for help, and go to the island to assess the situation before the rest of the rescue team arrives. They find Karly alive, though a bit injured from her desperate swim back to the island. Karly is relieved to have help, but is worried as there are only 4 members to fight off a large group of terrorists. It will be Ethan who will take Karly under his wing, and immediately the two are attracted to each other. Karly refuses to stay back alone, while the men go in to try to rescue the ambassador and his daughter; she manages to use the communications equipment to warn them of what is happening while they attempt the rescue.

What follows is a slow build romance between Karly and Ethan, as they both are drawn to each other after their narrowing rescue. The story moves to California, with Karly emotionally recovering from her adventure and back on the job. She avoids calls from Ethan wanting to continue to see her, but she knows there can be no future for them, since he is always on assignments. But Ethan’s persistence will allow him to be near Karly, when the FBI enlists her help in trying to find the mastermind, behind the terrorists, who have struck again elsewhere. The wild exciting suspenseful climax will find Karly’s life in danger, and Ethan desperate to save her life.

The romance between Karly and Ethan was sweet and sexy. I really liked them together. Cover of Night was a very good suspenseful story, with a great couple. I did feel that the ending was a bit abrupt. However, this is an excellent series by a wonderful author. If you enjoy mystery, suspense with romance, then you should be reading Laura Griffin.

Ok so if you like military romance, especially SEALs, you'll really like this one. This is the third installment of Alpha Crew and a being the complete action buff that I am with some romance thrown in this was right up my alley. The only reason I didn't rate this five stars was because I caught on to a key component of this thriller fairly early on. It's still thrilling and a crazy ride from beginning to end and so worth the time to read it!
