Great book, love this author and how they can keep my attention to the end! The plot is well developed, characters are believable and they obviously paid attention to detail to make the story worth your time to read.
Once again, Probing takes fans on a wild ride through the supernatural and science fiction. Each different story draw readers in and gives a new perspective, creating a well rounded series of events that fans love. The characters are unique and the banter is realistic, each of them having their own quirks that endear them to each other and to readers. From high tech mind reading to the walking dead, Probing is like the X-Files of Christian fiction.
The Probing was a good read. I don't have any of the next books in this series, so I'm not sure if I will continue reading it. I'm intrigued by the storyline, but it is not something that I'm needing to read right now.
I found these four stories to be interesting and yet creepy. I liked how the same characters were in each story, but the MC changed. It was great to see things from different perspectives.
All in all, The Probing was a really good book and I recommend it if you like this genre. Make sure you read the previous books as this is definitely a series that needs to be read in order.

I felt lost and would not have ordered this book had I realized that this was book three in the series. I think I need to read the others and re-read this book to give an honest review. I love all the authors that are involved in this project. So, I bet this series is amazing.
Four outstanding writers come together to write a interesting story in the form of four individual novellas that blend to make one story. Each author adds to the story from their character's viewpoint. This book is the third book in the cycle and should be read in that order. It was a bit difficult to pick up at this point in the overall story. Action packed with probing dialogues this is an interesting adventure in Christian fiction.
Fans of supernatural suspense will enjoy this series.
Review for Probing, The first story had me on the edge of my seat. It was action packed and thought provoking at the same time. What would happen when we lose our inhibitions? Is it possible to alter our thought process so that we would support a fight to the death? The statistics around the research of violence in media and violence in real life was frightening.
The second story was harder for me to get into. I just wasn't following the pirate theme.
The third story about the two children with black eyes was chilling. We also lose a member of the team in this story.
The fourth story was Tank’s and we got to revisit with Helsa. The gang is in a small town in South Carolina when more strange things occur. Tank is one of my favorite characters with his strong faith and his struggle with his ability to heal but only sometimes. I also feel that he needs someone who cares about him.
I am hoping the series continues as there are still tons of questions.

I am reviewing a copy of Probing through Bethany House and Netgalley:
Cycle three of the Harbinger series does not disappoint! It is full of more mystery and suspense and a deeper look at the power of light over darkness!
In the first book Leviatian Myers, has the team headed to the taping of a new television pilot to Live or Die; The Ultimate Reality. What they don't understand is the level of darkness they are about to enter.
In Frank Peretti's The Mind Pirates the Story has strange visions, and memories of murder, even kidnappings by seventeenth century pirates, and earring with mysterious powers. The team has to overcome the ruthless scheming of an evil, Hidden nemesis.
Angela Hunt's Hybrid, shows the team seeing two children, the site of them chills the team to their bones. In order to find rest and relation the team must find out what the mission of these two black eyed children is.
The Village by Alton Gansky takes the team to a small secretive town in North Carolina and brings them to the most challenging mystery they faced to date. Where they are forced to solve a mystery they can't quite grasp, before time runs out.
I give The Probing five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
Before I get into to my review about Probing, I must say that it was a bit misleading for me that this series was called “Harbingers”. I completely got this series confused with the book called Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn. I have been meaning to read Cahn’s book for years, and when I saw that I was going to be receiving a free copy of “Probing” from the Harbingers series from Bethany House I was so excited. I should have noticed the difference in authors names, but instead I thought maybe they took over the series? If I had read Cahn’s Harbinger piece I would have known right away – of course – the difference, instead I read this entire book thinking it was a sequel to Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn. It isn’t. Don’t make my mistake.
But, this was a very interesting read, especially if you like science fiction. Normally, I’m not a big science fiction kinda girl (not movies, not books), but I made an exception for this novel, made up of four novelettes. My favourite story was Leviathan by Bill Myers, from the perspective of “Brenda”, one of five of the Harbingers team. I’m not big on Hunger Games, but I really liked how he laid out the plot that really exposed how dangerous media really can be when we allow it to brain wash us, and when we allow it to set our moral standard. Actually my dislike for the Hunger Games is probably why I liked Leviathan so much.
The second piece was called The Mind Pirates by Frank Peretti from the perspective of the Professor. I had a hard time following this one. Probably because the Professor is even known in the group for being extremely intelligent. You gotta pull up your socks for this read. If you are a computer programer this one might be easier for you to follow. But very interesting, and once I finally understood what was happening I was fully in it through the suspense of the kidnapping, rescue, and the crazy earring that if one wore it you could see everything that the person wearing the other earring saw. Hellooo science fiction.
The third novelette in this book is called Hybrids by Angela Hunt and from the perspective of Andi. This one might have been the most suspenseful in my opinion. If you have ever wondered what would happen if everyone’s self control was turned off by a random machine, well, Angela Hunt did a great job describing this exact thing. But my favourite part was when Tank, as the only real Christian in the group, was the one to rise to the challenge, be able to pull himself together, motivate the other members of the team to snap out of it, and save the day. In a nutshell.
And last but not least, to complete this book, Alton Gansky wrote “the Village” from Tank’s perspective. Tank was my favourite character in “Probing” as he really had strong faith and God used him over and over to lay hands on the sick for healing. Each of the team members had a gift, and that was Tank’s. In Bill Myers novelette (the first story I talked about), the book was from Brenda’s perspective and she always referred to Tank as “Cowboy”… so it took me more than halfway through the book to realize that Tank and Cowboy are the same guy…. now, someone who had read the first two books in the series wouldn’t have had this problem, and Bill Myers did mention it… but I missed it. Anyway, Tank was a guy who loved God, he was grounded in the word and lived his life by the Bible and his relationship with the Lord. That being said, Alton Gansky, you write one crazy science fictional story. I tried recapping this story to my husband, and yep, it sounded cra-cra. Moral of the story – if you go to a crazy town and the nice people ask you to leave… well ya, you should leave. Before you disappear. Unless you’re the Harbingers there to save the day. Then you should stay, but otherwise, you should go.
I can’t remember the last time I read a science fiction book, and actually I’m glad my husband was home and not away for work, because this book got super intense. Had it been a movie, I would have been covering my eyes. A lot.
So would I read more in this series? Yes I definitely would. I’d give it a 4, 4.5 out of 5. I for sure want to read more from Bill Byers, and now – totally unrelated – I find I need to read The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn as well.
If you are looking for a last minute Christmas gift for a science fiction lover, consider the Probing or another in its series!
***I received a complimentary copy of “Probing” however I was not compensated for this review. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.***
Our ragtag team of heroes are back to tackle the newest evil lurking around every corner, and dimension.
The third installment of the Harbingers series picks things up where the team left off. Bill Myers starts things off with Leviathan, where our team has been invited to Hollywood for a taping of a new reality show, Live or Die: The Ultimate Reality. Things get a little too tense when they realize how much control the dark side has over those involved. Frank Peretti continues the story taking us on an amazing adventure with The Mind Pirates. The team has to deal with an enchanted pirate earring and an evil scheme at sea. Part three, Hybrids by Angela Hunt, gets even more chilling as the team encounters two children with black eyes and a pregnant woman who is no longer pregnant with no recollection of what happened to her baby. Our story concludes with The Village from Alton Gansky, where the team is sent to the Blue Ridge Mountains to a town that is more mysterious than anything they have ever encountered. And with this team, that is saying a lot.
If you are a fan of supernatural suspense you have probably heard of and read one or more of these authors. I don’t know whose idea it was to get them together in this way, but it works. Each book in the series gets better. You do have to enjoy the supernatural aspect to get into these books. While it is beneficial to have read both the previous installments, I wouldn’t say it is absolutely necessary. Each story is broken up with enough backstory that the reader can tell what is happening if they haven’t read the previous two. Just like most of the works I have read by these authors, there is a lot written that we can’t explain and some of the events will make you scratch your head, but these characters tackle each situation they encounter and bring it to life for the reader. It is nice that there isn’t a lot of time between releases of each book; with each author only writing a quarter of the story, it doesn’t take them as long to get it out to the anxiously awaiting readers. I do enjoy how each section is from a different character’s view point. Each author has done a fantastic job embodying their character and bringing in to life in a realistic manner. I don’t particularly care for a few of the characters, however it is in the way I’m not really supposed to care for them, which can actually make them more memorable and enjoyable. I recommend this book to those readers who enjoy a supernatural suspense story by some of the best in the business. Putting these four together was a great idea and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
Probing is a Christian supernatural suspense. It is the third book in the Harbingers series but the reader really needs to read books one and two first as the action follows on.
Once more there are four stories, each from a different viewpoint and by a different author - Bill Myers, Frank Peretti, Angela Hunt and Alton Gansky. The stories are all unique and follow on chronologically.
The fight against evil forces continues. The novel shows it is always best to fight evil with prayer.
Faith in God can help give us the correct moral compass. "If it wasn't for God, I'd never have the strength to do what is right." We have to do right no matter what others around us are doing.
The small band of friends continue to have adventures, trying to slay evil along the way.
All the authors have very imaginative ideas but with the core value of God and saving His people.
I am enjoying this unique Harbingers series and am hoping there will be a book four.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Probing is the third in the series of Christian books. You have a group of four strangers that met up and found they each have a special gift. When I say gift I mean Supernatural gift. In this series the first story is about reality and boy howdy does it. Become real. Where it is real is just as important. In the second story it is the team on vacation when they see a special ship and this ship is very different y'all, in more than one way. How you may ask? Well I'll tell you... You have to read the book. The Third put the team at Andyi's grandparents when two children that have something very special about them show up. They cause this story to make you have Goosebumps and to have Goosebumps on top of Goosebumps. In the Fourth story the team goes to South Carolina and the town is trying to get rid of them, when I say get rid of them I mean permanently get rid of them, but with GOD on their side who do you think is going to win? This one has a great straight on mystery. This book is good, better, best if You catch my drift. The LORD knows exactly what HE is doing.
Cycle Three of the Harbingers series offers more suspense, more chills, and a deeper look into the battle for light in a growing darkness.
In Myers's "Leviathan," the team heads to Hollywood for a taping of the new TV pilot, Live or Die, the Ultimate Reality. Little do they realize the depths of darkness they are about to enter--a darkness that, unless they stop it, will soon spread across the globe.
Frank Peretti's "The Mind Pirates" offers a rousing story featuring bizarre visions and memories of a murder, a kidnapping by 17th-century pirates, and an earring with mysterious powers. The team must overcome the ruthless scheming of an evil, hidden nemesis.
In "Hybrids" from Angela Hunt, the sight of two children chills the team to their bones. Seeking rest and relaxation, the four friends must instead find answers to the arrival and mission of two mysterious black-eyed children.
In "The Village" from Alton Gansky, a visit to a guarded and secretive small town in North Carolina becomes the most challenging mystery they've ever faced--as they race to solve a problem they barely understand before time runs out.
I have read the first two books of this series and I have found all of the intriguing. I really like the episodic style of this series from different point of views. But, I must admit this was my least favorite of the books so far. This is mostly because of "The Mind Pirates" episode. I found this one really far fetched, really hard to connect too and just too far out there. However, I do want to finish this series because I need to know how it ends and have all of these pieces come together. So, still and interesting read, but not my favorite of the series.
I received a copy of this title from Baker Publishing and NetGalley.
Wow, wow and wow again. What a great book. The concept of numerous authors writing from the persperspective of different characters really surprised me.,but it worked so well. I was caught up in each of the stories and found myself being carried along a roller coaster ride, experiencing the ups and downs of the characters and their quests. The charterers were awesome and the storylines were exciting and stimulating. Thank you for such an enjoyable book. Wonderful to see so many of my favourite authors collaborating on this book.
Just like the first two compilations with four connected stories this third one are clearly on the side of fantasy, mixing the philosophical christian with supernatural themes and a good dosis of suspense.
As all four are exceptional writers I really enjoyed reading this book with it's distinct voices of witch I really love Tank's.
