I am thoroughly enjoying McKinlay's Bluff Point Series, and this is my favorite of the books so far. I just loved this story of the romance of brewery owner Zachary Caine, and single mother Jessie Connelly. Zach has no intention of settling down, and Jessie has no use for a man like him. The two are brought together by her two precious daughters and an adorable kitten aptly called Chaos. A snowstorm and a threat from Jessie's past firmly cement the relationship between these two.

This was such a cute and sweet romance. The children and kitten made for quite a bit of additional charm. I loved the main characters and was captivated by their story. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Oh this was good! I've read McKinlay's cozy mysteries for years and I was curious about how much I'd enjoy a romance. I mean would I like her as much if she wasn't killing off visitors to small towns? Turns out the answer is yes! I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Zach may be on my all time favorite heroes list. He's just such a genuine nice guy. He loves his friends, he loves his job, and he loves his dog. He's a give you the shirt off his back without hesitation kind of guy and big brother to all. That is until he meets Jessie Connelly - well more like Jessie Connelly's two little girls and their kitten who is aptly named Chaos.

Jessie was also an easy character to like. She loves her girls but is used to being on her own since her ex-husband is more than worthless. She has some walls and some massive insecurities but isn't' prickly. I don't think she realized just how lonely she was for friends until Zach landed in a snowbank in front of her clutching a very annoyed kitten.

I loved how their relationship built and I loved how important the girls became to Zach without him really realizing it. It was lovely to see how much they really needed each other and were just happier together. I was enjoying all that so much that when a bit of external conflict arose I was initially not happy about it but McKinlay used it deftly and it added to my enjoyment without being overwrought.

This was a delightful contemporary romance full of sweet without being sappy and with a nice helping of heat. This is a friend group I'm really excited about revisiting and am so glad I have 2 previous books to catch up on while I wait for book 4!

This is such a delightful story, each character added a realistic and heartfelt aspect to the romance. Zach was just wonderful and sweet, especially to Jessie’s little girls. It wasn’t just a sexy little romance, it was also a heartwarming story of two little girls finding joy as well. This quick read truly touched my heart.

I really loved this book! When reading the blurb and the word kitten was mentioned I knew I had to read this one. I'm so glad I did. You know it's good because while reading this one made me want to read the previous two books in the series. This book had me hooked right from the beginning. Zach is just dreamy. He's definitely moved onto my top book boyfriends list. I loved the way he treats Jessie and her girls. That won me over, but his aid with little kitty Chaos sealed the deal. Jessie's girls are just too cute and adorable. I loved everything about this book. They story line itself was great then add in the characters and pets it's just delightful. Jenn McKinaly has gained a new reader for sure!

I actually ended up reading this book twice because I didn’t write my review for it when I finished the first time. I went back to refresh my memory to write one and instead I found myself sucked back in to reading it all over again.

Maddie, Gracie and Zach truly stole the show in this book. Two adorable girls and a really, really nice guy who might just be a little misunderstood equals all of the swoons. I loved reading how Zach interacted with the girls like he himself was a kid but at the same time was teaching them to be kind, strong women and to treat their mother with respect.

*I received an ARC from NetGalley for voluntary review

I love how protective Jessie was of her kids, but how she was still willing to open herself to Zach and how she always stood up for herself against her father-in-law. I think her and Zach were a perfect match and I loved how their relationship developed.

I really enjoyed how the whole group of friends interacted with each other. Nothing was sacred between them but their undying support for each other was awesome. Their word games were the best! I loved getting to know the whole crew, as this is my first time reading a book in this series, and I can’t wait to read the other books.

This is the third in the series but the first one that I have read. This is an adorable story that has charm and charisma to spare. Jessie is a great character. She is “real” with issues that most women have. I loved her. Zach is a sweet guy who falls pretty quick for Jessie and her two little girls.

The story is very sweet and has a good lesson on the importance of family.

I will be heading back to read the first two in the series. Very enjoyable.

Living life as a bachelor has its ups and downs. Never answering for your actions is a blessing to Zachary Caine. As an owner of the local brewery, Zachary has his fair share of women strolling in and out of his door. None able to snag more that a fleeting moment of Zachary’s time. Until a little Chaos came strolling into Zachary’s life.

Sometimes the life we have planned for ourselves doesn’t always work out the way we planned. As a newly divorced mother, Jessie Connelly definitely knows the phrase ‘you reap what you sow’. No one deserves to know the type of chaos that reigned supreme in her former marriage. Leaving a bitter taste in Jessie’s mouth for any man. The highlight of her life are the two girls that call Jessie MOM. Something that quickly became the focus towards gaining independence and a new lease on life. Little did Jessie know that her girls would spark the catalyst that would change her life in more ways than one.

Snow brings forth a blanket that washes away mounds of dirt. A beauty to behold when looking at it through the panes of glass. For Zachary, a plea from two little girls would bring him out in the cold to rescue their kitten who was full of mayhem. While the siblings tugged at his heart, it was the mother that captured his attention. Zachary Caine may not be relationship material, but his attraction to Jessie is quickly test his rule of not letting anyone into his heart.

The bachelor and the divorcee, what a pair these two make!! Every Dog Has His Day is the latest saga in The Bluff Point series by Jenn McKinlay. A sweet romance that throws together two tortured souls. One that lives with the mistakes of the past, and the other a loner that doesn’t realize what is missing from his life. The chaos that throws Jessie and Zachary together is humorous and touching all at the same time.

The couple fights their attraction with everything that exists. Jessie is determined to keep her girls safe, and can’t risk falling in love. Zachary has never known anyone to turn his head or flip his heart the way Jessie can. As Zachary picks up the slack from this family’s dead beat dad, his heart becomes more entwined in the family dynamic. A roller coaster of emotion that readers will not be able to resist. Another amazing addition to the series that I have come to LOVE!!

4.5 stars! Terrific romance with endearing characters. The whole series has been solid. This one struck me especially because the plot isn't advanced by the characters hiding their true thoughts/feelings/past or by lies or misunderstandings. The characters are honest with each other and that was refreshing.

I love dogs and cats and I do love dogs and cats in books so of course I just couldn't pass up reading this book.

Every Dog Has His Day is book number 3 in the Bluff Point series and I do admit that I have not read the previous 2 book but now that I have read the third book I so want to get my hands on the previous books and future books in this series because I loved Every Dog Has His Day. It is cute and romantic and I just didn't want to stop reading this book.

I give Every Dog Has His Day by Jenn McKinlay a 4 out of 5 stars.

Feel-good romance set in Maine

This is the 3rd book in the Bluff Point series by author Jenn McKinlay. I haven't read the other two books in the series and didn't feel too left out of the happenings in this book when I read it. I do think, that if you have the chance, that reading the other two would help the reading experience but not required reading.

Jessie Connelly is a divorced mother of two adorable daughters aged 5 and 7. She works at the local veterinarian's office and is extremely leery of any new relationship after her disastrous marriage.

Zach Caine lives next door to Jessie and is called into action when the little girls' tiny kitten, Chaos, gets stuck on his roof. He owns the local brewery in Bluff Point, Maine and is happy-go-lucky and far from serious relationship material. At least that was what everyone thought before he met Jessie.

This was a fun romance with some serious moments with two well matched people, two adorable little girls, a kitten, and a standard sized poodle named Rufus.

I received this book from Berkley Publishing through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read the book and leave an unbiased review.

A wonderful small town romance between two people who've been hurt in the past and are determined to move forwards. Jessie was introduced to us in the first book in this trilogy; she's the one who picked up Mac's then-groom in front of the church and ran off with him on their wedding day. Turns out he was nobody's prince and she left him and has custody of their girls (he's actually AWOL for this book). She has grown up a lot and reflects a lot on how growing up as she did led her to make some bad choices in life, and now works to make sure life is good for her girls.

Anyways, in contrast to the stuck in a cabin together scenario, Zach notices that while Jessie is doing well she is lacking in adult friends and starts encouraging her to join his group of friends. Then the storm happens and being neighbourly, he goes to check on her and they wind up spending a few hydro-free days together with his generator and her wood stove (that's not a metaphor). Things develop but they're both really weary and kind of go back and forth on how their relationship will move forward. They do have misunderstandings but get through it and the text chats between Jessie and other women in their friend group are pretty funny.

As this is supposed to be a trilogy I'm curious to see what happens because there is a very nice setup for two future books with some of the remaining friends, so I hope we get to see more books set in Bluff Point. I would recommend this book to Jill Shalvis fans. The humour, nicely developed romance, and excellent supporting cast really add to this story about two fascinating characters.

Every Dog Has His Day is the third book in Jenn McKinlay’s Bluff Point series. Although the characters and relationships have been fully established in the prior two books, I had no probably getting into the story or the characters without having read them.
Neighbors Jessie Connelly and Zachary Caine don’t have the best reputations. One is known as a player and the other as a relationship-wrecker. It takes Jessie’s adorable daughters and a stranded kitten to throw these two together. Their budding relationship progresses pretty quickly. Both Zach and Jessie profess their desire to remain unattached, but it only takes a snowstorm and a couple days without power for the two of them to hook up and fall into coupledom. As they get to know one another, so does the reader, and their individual backgrounds make it clear why they make the perfect couple.
For me, the highlight of the book was not the romance, but Jessie’s adorable daughters. They hooked Zach just as quickly as me! Jessie's prior lack of sexual satisfaction didn't add anything to the story for me, and her instant bond with Zach's female friends felt unrealistic. Jessie’s ex-father-in-law is a horrible man who wields threats to mask his disappointment and sadness. The angst and conflict he creates could have been further developed for meatier drama, but it is fairly easily resolved.
For fans of sweet, light romances, Every Dog Has His Day will be a hit. The plot is simple and straightforward, the characters are well developed, and the story flows nicely. Refreshingly, Ms. McKinlay has created truly normal characters—no dominating alpha males, no subordinate, pin-up girl bombshells. Who could resist adorable animals, cute-incarnate kids, a little humor, and a heart-felt romance?

So I liked this one quite a bit. This group of friend in Bluff Point, Maine are starting to feel like old friends already. I was pulled into this romance from the very start and enjoyed it until the very end. This book had the perfect combination of cute animals, darling kids, and a couple destined to be together.

Zach doesn't know what to expect when he finds two adorable little girls at his door. They need his help because their kitten, Chaos, is currently sitting on the roof of Zach's house. Being the nice guy he is, he jumps into help right away saving the kitten and landing in a big pile of snow. I thought the set up of this story was great but things got even better when Zach decided to make sure his neighbor and her two girls are okay during the blizzard that hit the area.

I thought the characters in this book were wonderful. At the start of the series, Jessie seemed like the bad guy but things have changed as the series has progressed. Once I got the chance to spend a few moments in her head during this story, I completely changed my opinion of her. She really is a great character and has had a lot of things in her life go horribly wrong. Zach was such a good guy. He really was perfect with Jessie's girls and worked hard to be what they needed him to be.

I loved Zach and Jessie as a couple. They had so much fun together from the very start and the chemistry between them was amazing. Zach's relationship with both of her girls was equally well done. I really liked how both Jessie and Zach keep their focus on the girls and their best interest. It really did feel like this group of people belonged with each other. It was really refreshing to see the kids play such an important role in the book but don't worry there are plenty of steamy moments to balance everything out.

The book was really good but I did have couple of issues. I thought that some of the interactions with the larger group were a bit immature. I thought it was rather odd that a grown woman would go into another room during a situation to ask her friends for advice in a group chat. This group of friends didn't hesitate to share some pretty personal details. I kept thinking that if Zach and Jessie would just be that open with each other it would solve a lot of problems. The other issue I had concerned a situation with the girls' grandfather. He was really a difficult man and I thought that his complete change of heart seemed a bit unrealistic. These were really very minor issues that didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book.

I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This is the third book in the series but it could easily be read as a stand alone. Readers of the series will enjoy spending time with characters featured in the earlier books. I can't wait to read more from this talented author very soon.

I received an advanced reader edition of this book from Berkley Publishing Group via NetGalley.

Jenn McKinlay has once again released a sweet, heartwarming and super fun story. Every Dog Has His Day is book #3 in her absolutely delightful Bluff Point, Maine series. Zack Caine, brewery owner, is happy with his life. He has the brewery, his Maine crew of friends and interactions with ladies he meets when he feels attracted, as long as all parties agree that getting together is a "no-strings-attached" thing. Zack is the ultimate commitment-phobe. He also has a dog companion in the cinnamon colored standard poodle, Rufus - at least for now as he is doing long-term dog sitting for a friend. Jessie Connelly is happy to be free from her alcoholic, cheating ex-husband since she has two sweet, wonderful daughters she is determined to be the best mother for and also has a great job as office manager for town vet, Gavin Tolliver. So life is good even considering having to keep up with the overactive kitten, Chaos that she and her girls are fostering. Then Choas gets stuck on Zack's roof and as he is such a good neighbor and hero it's Zack to the rescue. Thus the fun begins!

The author does an excellent job with her storyline, plot and dialogue. She writes a believeable conflict and resolution. Along the way she keeps her readers attention and "funny bone" tickled with animal antics, cute kiddie scenes and super fun adult interactions. The conversations among the Maine crew friends are hilarious. How many differnt terms do you know for orgasm and intimate female body pasrts? The reader will laugh at those boy vs girl phrase competitions. The reader will also get to see who ends up packing to run away, who ends up wearing a purple pirate hat complete with plume and how a talent show ends up.

I have loved all the books in this series so far! Every Dog Has His Day is no exception. I highly recommend this book!

I have to agree with the previous reviewer who wanted to love this book but didn't. It started great with wonderful interactions between Zach and the young daughters of his neighbor plus it had two great pets - Rufus the poodle and Chaos the kitten. Then pages of backstory on all the past characters and their relationships were dumped into the story. I didn't know these people nor did I care about them but I did dislike the story grinding to a halt.

Then the plot for this book basically went almost nowhere for 1/3 of the book. Around page 100 I began to skim - first pages then chapters then to the end of the book.

Every Dog Has His Day by Jenn McKinlay is the third book in her Bluff Point series. Having read the first two books in this series, I knew this would be a fun and enjoyable read. However, after finishing Every Dog Has His Day, I thought this was the best one yet. I loved every moment of this sweet heartwarming romance. Mckinlay not only gives us a wonderful couple, and two cute pets (Chaos, the cat and Rufus, the dog), but she also gives us two fantastic and adorable little girls.
Zack Caine, our hero, loves his free fun life, even if all his friends are getting engaged or married. When in the wee early hours of a snowy morning, he wakes up to loud banging, and when he opens the door, there are two little girls (5 & 7) looking up at him for help. It turns out that their cat, Chaos in on his roof yowling to be rescued. The girl’s mother comes running out of their house next door, just when Zach climbs up on the roof to rescue the cat, and lands in the snow. Zach remembers Jessie, who was nasty to him when he met her before; and now she is his neighbor. Jessie is divorced, and is gun shy to be involved with any man, let alone one who is considered a womanizer.
When a major storm brings down power, Zach will bring his generator to Jessie’s house and they all will stay to help one another during the storm. A friendship builds between Zach and Jessie, and even more between Zach and the two kids ( Maggie & Gracie). What follows is a sweet heartwarming story that touches your heart throughout. Both Zach and Jessie enjoy each other’s company, and the banter between them and the girls was lots of fun…very enjoyable. But both fear that they are becoming too attached, as a commitment is nothing either wants. Jessie having already suffered a bad marriage, and Zach determined not to follow in his friends footsteps.
When Jessie is threatened by her ex father-in law, a powerful man, things will change. Though her heart tells her he is the man for her, she fears losing her children, and pushes Zach away. Zach feels the loss of three people who have melted his heart and knows he cannot live without them. When a near tragedy happens, it will bring everyone together to fight their fears, and lead to a happy ending.
I absolutely loved “the Maine crew” (Zach & Jessie’s friends), who were always there for them, as well as fun. Chaos and Rufus were both cute and fun, and part of the family. But most of all, I loved Zach, Jessie, Maggie and Gracie together; an awesome family.

Every Dog Has His Day was such an enjoyable read, fun, with wonderful leading characters that you will love. If you enjoy pure simple small town romances, great couple, fantastic secondary characters, humorous and fun camaraderie and two adorable pets & children, then you should be reading this series.

I confess: I'm in love with Bluff Point, Maine. After About a dog, I was dying to know what would happen with all the BFF's of Mac. Great was the surprise that this third part wasn't about Jillian, but about Jessie. She was the stuck up girl who drove off with Mac's fiancé in the first place. In the last part of About a dog we read that she got a job with Gavin (yes Mac's husband). And in this part she is still working there. What we didn't read yet is how sad Jessie's past has been and how Seth has mistreated her and her two adorable daughters: Gracie and Maddie.

Enter Zach, Jessie's neighbour and friend of the Mac-and-Gavin posse. He is the playboy of the bunch, the womanizer. The-happy-go-lucky-guy who is friends with everybody. When Chaos, the kitten of Maddie and Grace gets stuck in a tree, Zach helps them out. However, since a few of his fellow (girl!) co-workers were spending the night due to the bad weather, Jessie misunderstood his company and drives the girls out of Zach's house. She is convinced that all people are not to be trusted and therefore she keeps her distance from everybody.

But Zach is intrigued by this closed off beauty living next door and her adorable girls. So, he wiggles himself (and his dog Rufus) into their lives and slowly he is melting Jessie's icy walls around her heart. Jessie doesn't know what to think of Zach's attention for her and her daughters. Especially since 'the posse' warns her that Zach is a non-commitment kind of guy. But they can't deny the mutual attraction and when 'the posse' encourages a fling between them, Jessie decides to take the plunge and have a fling.

But then, Seth's father, judge Connelly, finds out she is going out with Zach and threatens to take away her daughters. Scared and all alone: what can Jessie do against the powerful judge who has always covered for her ex-husbands mistakes? But now, Jessie is not alone anymore: she has the posse and they will not leave her on her own to stand against Seth's father.

A wonderful read, heartbreaking, cute, adorable and full of laughter. The posse at Bluff Point will have you yearning for more. Thank you Netgalley for providing the arc. Five out of five stars from me and I'm looking forward to the next part.

Charming, funny, sweet- this wintery new entry in Jenn McKinlay's first romance series, Bluff Point, is a solid romance and enjoyable story. I really enjoyed the female lead character, Jessie, who isn't a perfect "dream girl" type character- she once served as escape car and future wife of a man leaving his fiancee at the alter, and now is a shy single mom with relatable body image issues and family struggles. Zach, the male lead, is a handsome but deceptively sensitive and engaging workaholic who is thoroughly charmed by Jessie and her two daughters. This is a great romance that is also about family as Jessie and Zach's story is also about their connection with her children. McKinlay really finds her stride with the series in this book- it felt like the most down to earth, realistic book in the series yet, and I think she's really figured out how to have a familiar style without trying to also use some of the zaniness or quirkiness that appropriately features in her cozy mysteries.

This is the third book in the Bluff Point romance series. Before reading this, I had not read the other two. I really enjoyed this book but I'm sure that if I had known the characters better, it would have been nicer. Good story though. I loved the children and pets in this story and their interactions with the adults. I would recommend it!
