Justin and Ysabel are twins, and between them they have pretty much everything: Justin is rocking the debate team and Ysabel's glass beads and jewelry are catching the eyes of art schools. Their mom's catering business is doing well. And their dad... they just found out that their dad has been keeping a secret: he feels like a woman, and he plans to start living as one. Ysabel and Justin are shocked and unsure how to react, as the father they've known all their lives isn't who they thought. How do they reconcile Dad and Christine, and put their family back together?
I found this one just okay--I liked that we're dealing with the topic; I think the teens' confusion about it was pretty honest. And yet there was something about this that didn't feel fully authentic, and I don't know why. Maybe because the timeline was so abbreviated--the kids have been hanging onto this resentment for a year or more and in three days at their dad's place everybody is cool and bonding again? I dunno.
I liked the characters and I think it's a worthwhile book to have in a teen collection, and I'll recommend it, but it didn't fully work for me.
