Baking as therapy is right up my alley. So is dessert. This cookbook covers all of the best sweet treats, including cookies, cakes, pastries and candies.

“SWEET REVENGE is about taking all your bittersweet memories, mixing in a little flour and sugar, and creating something delicious AF out of them.”

The target audience is just slightly younger than I am but the instructions are so much more down to earth than your usual cookbook.

“Dump in egg, heavy cream, and vanilla extract.”

Totally relatable. I may not be the best cook but even I’m competent enough to dump stuff in a bowl. Instructions like these make me want to attempt every recipe.

It’s difficult to pick favourites when you haven’t completed taste tests yet so instead I’m choosing the recipe I most want to try from each section:
* Kiss My Molasses - molasses gingersnaps with lemon curd
* Stop Texting Me, You Crepe - Oreo crepe cake
* I’m Not Your Honeybuns - cinnamon rolls with honey glaze
* I Hate You a Latte - latte Toblerone semifreddo.

Now I need to go eat a salad.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Switch Press, an imprint of Capstone, for the opportunity to read this book.

I thought the concept of this book was pretty funny, and it's pretty creative. The recipes are delicious, so I gave it 4 stars. But...it was a bit much for me. To be fair, the title gives fair warning as to the content, which I appreciated. It was a fun read overall and like I said, the most important part--the recipes were delicious. So an objectively fair review requires 4 stars here! I'd recommend this one to someone in the anger stage of grieving a breakup, and I'd absolutely buy it for any friends in such situations. And then I'd hang out to help taste-test their revenge.

Title: Sweet Revenge: Passive-Aggressive Desserts For Your Exes And Enemies

Author: Heather Kim

Genre: Nonfiction, Cookbook, Teens, Sweets

Plot: Nothing hurts like getting dumped by your sweetheart or being stabbed in the back by someone you thought was a trusted friend. All of that grief, anger and pain can lead you to make some questionable decisions and we all want revenge for the pain we were caused. So why not channel that energy and bake some divine sweets that will show your ex just exactly who he or she lost when they broke your heart?

With over 50 jaw-dropping and sweet-tooth-satisfying recipes in this slim volume, you will well on your way to baking some piping hot revenge and delivering (or devouring) it in style.

Likes/Dislikes: This book is definitely written for teens with a strong teen voice and plenty of their lingo sprinkled throughout. The humor is very sarcastic and exactly the type needed after a painful breakup. In between the recipes there are pages that give the reader a crash course in baking - from the different types of flours available to how whipped the cream should be. There are also plenty of little nuggets of wisdom hidden in here with the predominant ones being that revenge is best baked away and that we need to find healthy relationships in our lives. Some of the recipes are pretty simple and straight-forward with a clever twist while others are more involved. My husband liked the idea of butterscotch bacon and candied chicken skin as well as Doritos chip sugar. There were several recipes I thought sounded delicious while a few had me in disbelief. All in all, a fun little cookbook.

Rating: PG-16 and up, mainly for reading level

I'm not one for revenge but killing them with kindness is a good philosophy. It's a new take on cookbooks and some good recipes!

I might buy this as a joke gift for a friend but can't really see buying it for our library collection. Interesting premise for a cook book but probably not going to stand the test of time.

I could not seem to download this book, therefore, I was unable to read and review it. That's unfortunate, as I had hoped to ad some YA books to my shelf of reviews. Because I was unable to read this book, I did not want to assign any stars, however, NetGalley required me to do so, in order to publish this "review". I don't want to give it either a low or high rating, so I chose the midpoint of 3 stars.

An interesting approach to a cookbook. I loved the uniqueness of concept. The recipes were simple to follow and the few I tried tasted good.

I loved this book. The tone, the photos, even the fun and interesting twists on foods that I'd never think of as 'revenge'... I'd easily gift this to any one of my newly broken-up clients. (I'm a dating columnist).

While some of the recipes were nothing special, the way in which they're presented - all new. Never have I ever thouight of making 'sweet revenge gifts - literally, killing them with kindness - and this book gives you everything it's got. Syrupy, sweet, deliciousnessness.

Yummy recipes that are also very punny. Lots of fun because of all the attitude and puns, plus all the deliciousness of a "regular" cookbook. This cookbook made me smile twice -- once as I read the puns and again when I ate the dessert!

Desserts and Revenge? How much more do I need to say?

This book was full of sweet desserts and full of revenge against those that deserved it! The whole time I was reading this book I was HUNGRY! It made everything sound so delicious! And the revenge was the best part!

The pot and characters only added so much more depth to the story and made it the perfect recipe for what was needed!

For this one, I did. It’s short and easy to read but I was also hoping to create some of the recipes, which sadly I never did. But the book itself had me cracking up! There are recipes in this such as:

Stop Texting Me, You Crepe
Nutty as a Fruit Cake
Bite Me, Scum Muffin
Go FUDGE Yourself

I mean, how could I not absolutely love this?! The recipes are divided into four different categories, Cookies, Cakes, Breads, and Candies and I wanted to make everything! Which is really saying something because I do NOT enjoy baking. At all. As a matter of fact, the hubby normally helps, and by help I mean does all the work and I do the icing, when I want a cake or brownies. I just don’t like baking. Unlike cooking, it’s not soothing for me. But this book would make anyone want to read and then bake everything!

Heather Kim goes into the reasoning behind creating this type of cookbook, which really is a cookbook. She stresses this multiple times, but the fact is, many of these types of books are about the therapeutic ways of getting over your ex. This is about getting elbows deep into a messy situation that will not hurt your heart. And she says:

You can’t hate-tweet your ex when you’re knuckles deep in molasses.

I mean, think about it, baking is the perfect outlet for all that pent-up, stood up in a McDonald’s parking lot on prom night in an overpriced backless dress RAAAAAGE.

The entire idea of this is extraordinary. The desserts look amazing, although like I said above, since this was on .PDF I never got around to actually creating any of these fabulous sounding recipes, and the sarcastic way she attacks these desserts, while also bashing the ex, is the perfect formula for a great evening in front of the oven cooking your heart out, instead of crying into a pint of ice cream!

I definitely recommend this, even if you’re happily in a committed relationship, because we all have those moments when our spouses or loved ones drive us nuts, we can bake for them instead of cursing them out!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review, which has not altered my opinion of this book.

This book was wonderful. Not only are the pictures gorgeous, the author a BAMF, but the food is delicious. I actually got the book before the holidays (yes it’s been a while, don’t attack me) and baked several of the cookies for a holiday party and they were a huge hit. I haven’t tried the cakes yet because I’m not a huge cake person, but they will happen I’m sure eventually.

The book itself is wonderfully written and explains everything thoroughly and without any issues. Ms Kim has the recipes rated by difficulty as well as explains how long things take and the best way house each instrument. There is humor and wit and very satisfying jabs and notes throughout the recipes. This book for sure has the feel of a cookbook made for someone who just wants to relieve tension and I can’t recommend it enough! 5 out of 5 from me!

I greatly enjoyed this book and the recipes!

However, this is a novel that I think would be better in print.

The recipes are easy to follow and the commentary is hilarious.

Thanks to NetGalley and Capstone, Switch Press for the opportunity to read and review Sweet Revenge by Heather Kim. The subtitle “Passive-Aggressive Desserts for your Exes and Enemies” says it all! Cleverly named recipes for all the different reasons you could possibly have a need to rid yourself of relationship frustrations. Creatively named sections classify each recipe and the author states “revenge is best served warm” and “ kindness is rare” so the goodness will come back around. The concept of taking your frustrations, hurt and anger out while creating yummy goodness is refreshing and therapeutic. Imaginative and laced with humor and fun visuals will make even the most down-day humorous. Two Thumbs up and 5 stars for a sumptuous, creative book full of yumminess!

I just have to say: This is one of the best cookbooks I've ever read. It's just BRILLIANT. I am so sad that I couldn't actually bake or prepare any of the recipes because my oven is not working, but I will definitely try.
I loved everything about this book!!! The recipes look yummy and it is not a common book, it's very helpful and taught me lots of things (types of sugar, for example). It is entertaining, unique and funny. You can see the dedication here! I mean, is not only clever but the graphics, photos, jokes and the whole design behind this book was fantastic.I really want to buy it!!!
