I kind of expected more because so like his videos so much, but it was still an entertaining read. I may have set my expectations too high just because he’s so animated to watch/listen to.

A very funny and entertaining book. It can be a bit over the top at points, but still a great way to escape and have a laugh. Especially recommended for anyone familiar with Matt Bellassai’s video series, “Wine About It”.

Matt is snarky and hilarious and I'd give anything to be friends with him. This book was everything I thought it would be and I giggled my way through this book. Loved it!

DNF’d (Star rating doesn’t reflect my opinion of the book as a whole because I didn’t finish it, nay I’m forced to rate it here)

I need to quit trying to read these YouTube/Facebook/Instagram stars books. This type of self-deprecating, spastic humor is funny in short bursts. A weekly post or video, a whole book, not so entertaining.

My Highly Caffeinated Thought: This book is a witty and honest collection of stories filled with fun anecdotes and humiliations.

Confession time. I loved Matt's Buzzfeed show "Whine About It". Watching his videos made me laugh and feel as if my desire to drink an entire bottle of wine in one sitting wasn't the most horrible thing in the world.

When I heard about his book, I was ready and waiting to dive in. EVERYTHING IS AWFUL is quintessential Matt Bellassai. His voice, humor, and blunt honesty jumps off the page. Personally, I loved rantings and the retellings of dreadful moments in the author's life. I know it sounds horrible to say, but we all have those times in our lives that make us cringe or lead us to where we are today. Bellassai just put them all in a book for us to read.

I don't know if I could have been so candid in a book, but I am sure glad that Bellassai was. I laughed, cringed, and cheered on the author through every page of this book. What can I say? I am a fan.

Matt Bellassai made a career out of getting drunk on Youtube and talking mad smack about pretty much anything. Whether if was his experiences with bad parents in stores or those folks who "want to speak to the manager" Bellassai is often drunk and sassy when it comes to the internet. In his new memoir, Everything is Awful, readers get a chance to see what caused this teenager from the midwest to become the outspoken gay man who only eats food when it's delivered to his apartment in New York.

I absolutely loved this book, but to be fair it will not be for everyone. Bellessai is openly gay, cranky as all get out, and utterly hilarious. His takes on family vacations, being the child who was almost always the only one to get injured, and life trying to not get murdered when finding roommates in New York, where gut-bustingly funny. A few times while reading the digital copy of this book in bed, I almost woke up my husband while laughing out loud.

Everything is Awful is now available from Atria Books.

I work at a library that is very conservative with not many young readers. If i could buy this for my young adult section, I would in a hot minute. This book had me rolling with laughter the entire time! He really has a way with words and telling stories in a way where you dont get bored while reading! I am recommending this to every fangirl I know!

I first found Matt through his BuzzFeed "Whine About It" videos on Facebook, thanks to my healthy addiction to all things BuzzFeed lol. Now I faithfully follow his "TBH" videos posted on his own Facebook page and nod in agreement each week as he guzzles his bottle of wine and vents about relevant problems that plague this world. Granted, they're first world problems, but still. He gets me. He's my ginger spirit animal and I want to be his BFF. Seriously, how do I get that to happen?!?!? His debut book was a must read and it didn't disappoint. It's a hilarious inside glimpse into Matt's life from his childhood, his teen years, and his coming out of the closet in college. Literally and figuratively. We learn all about what molded and shaped Matt into the fabulous, snarky, sassy man he is today! What I absolutely LOVED about this book was that this WAS written by Matt in his own voice. No one tried to change his style. No one tried to tell him he can't have a chapter on why teenagers are the worst. And every single reason was on point. As is his take on working out...

"It’s no surprise, then, that I’ve grown distrustful of physical activity in my mature state. For me, fitness will always equal shame and pain, broken bones and the bad kind of balls to the face."

Amen, my friend. AMEN.

If you're a fan of Matt's videos, you will love this book from start to finish. If you're like me, your stomach will be hurting from laughter at page two. And if you've never heard of Matt before, you MUST RECTIFY THIS IMMEDIATELY OR WE CAN NO LONGER BE FRIENDS! I've done you a solid and posted his social media links below in his bio. I'm also giving you the links to his Unhappy Hour podcast because I'm helpful like that. Listen and read now, thank me later.

First line: I was six years old when I last peed my pants.

Summary: Matt Bellassai is an internet star! He has his weekly show where he gets drunk and tells you have to live your life. He started his career at Buzzfeed and won a People’s Choice Award for his online videos. In this book he talks about the embarrassing and real parts of his life from his childhood to coming out to living in New York City.

Highlights: Hilarious stories! I love to watch his weekly videos on Facebook. Coworkers laugh at me while I am busting up in the breakroom. I cringed during the braces story, felt embarrassed during the closet scenario, and laughed through the rest of it. He has a way with words and while I was reading, I could hear him speaking which made it even better.

Lowlights: I wanted pictures! Several of the stories were a little slow moving but not enough to hinder the telling and laughs associated with it.

FYI: If you watch his Facebook series, “To Be Honest”, then this is a must read!
