The interesting, quirky characters made Sweet Tea and Sympathy a fun read. Molly Harper, bless her heart, takes the reader right into the middle of small town, deep south life.
Another hit by Ms Harper that makes me crave sweet tea and fireflies!
This newest release from Molly Harper was like a piece of warm molasses pie chased with a glass of sweet tea. It was smooth and delicious, and hit all the right notes. The gradual build-up in this book left me very invested in Margo McReady Cray's life. The book ended the only way possible. Quirky characters, a delightful small-town Southern backdrop, and a hunkalicious leading man. I can't think of anything missing & I couldn't ask for anything more! Another Molly Harper winner!
This is hard to write, but this book is the only Molly Harper I've read that I just can't get into. I'm struggling so hard right now, and have put it down a number of times already. These characters do nothing for me, the situation is not entertaining and, so far, wackiness has not ensued. WTH?
I'm assuming from the title page that this is meant to be a series, so maybe all this is just a horribly long and unnecessary intro to the workings of this family? Or something? I want to give the benefit of the doubt here, but I'm losing faith. I'll give it a few days and try one more time, for Molly.
Molly Harper has truly wow'ed me with Sweet Tea and Sympathy!! Having never read a Molly Harper novel before I wasn't sure what to expect, but I immediately connected with her writing style. So much so, by the time I got to the second chapter, I already knew I didn't want this book to end. The storyline was well-paced and the characters were endearing and authentic. I felt the southern hospitality through the pages and I enjoyed reading Margot's city-slicker-in-a-small-town reaction to all of that southern love. I am particularly partial to novels set in small towns and Sweet Tea and Sympathy is a perfect example of why. Being that this 5 star read is the first book in the Southern Eclectic series, I am keeping my fingers crossed that Molly Harper writes many, many more installments in the future!! This novel is great combination of women's fiction and romance and I highly recommend it to everyone!
I loved this book, much more than I had expected to. The characters were quirky and endearing, and the city-girl-in-the-small-town trope didn't seem trite but fun. I'm also a sucker for tear-inducing complicated family relationships. I look forward to book 2, as I noticed it is the beginning of a series!
