I nice beginner's book. I like the section on suggested tools and materials as well as the diagrams for where you want to apply more pressure when making you letters. Includes a number of different styles and ways to use lettering. Pages for practicing with suggestions on what to practice.
Wonderful book! This book is a good place to start learning lettering. I am really enjoying it. You will learn basic lettering, compositions, digitizing your lettering, watercolor lettering, and much more. I wish this book longer.
Thank you Netgalley for this book.
I could spend hours looking at creative lettering on Pintrest or Bullet Journaling sites. I’m not going to lie – I half expected to be magical at lettering just by reading this book. Which is not quite how it works. Practise, practise practise. Or as I prefer, perfect practise, perfect practise. Because lettering is harder than it looks. I found that I have a much better understanding of how calligraphy works through the calligraphy upper case alphabet (which is pretty easy as far as fancy alphabets go). I definitely will take time to practise these skills again.
The book doesn’t just cover lettering, there are flower and banner tutorials as well. These will come in really useful for decoration – I find even basic lettering can be improved with a few well placed doodles. Be warned though – it is part workbook and for that reason the physical copy might be more suited than the ecopy (which I have). Mind you there is always plenty of paper kicking about so the ecopy can be used just as effectivelty. There are 100 challenges towards the end of the book – they really are quite fun and a few take you out of your comfort zone. With practise I think I will be lettering everywhere!
