It’s always hard to review a collection of stories because I enjoy some stories/authors more than others. They are all sweet romances set in the Regency time period in England. There were 7 stories in all, but I did have a few favorites—The Highwayman’s Bargain by MaryLu Tyndall, The Gentleman Smuggler’s Lady by Michelle Griep, and Three Little Matchmakers by Susanne Dietze. I think most readers of Christian romance would find the stories enjoyable.
The Regency Bride collection was sweet and enjoyable, and a great read curled up on the couch. I enjoyed all of the different novellas, and I devoured them in less than a day. The plot lines were well written and allowed me to fully appreciate the main characters and their individual dilemmas even with the shorter length of a novella. I enjoyed the variety of settings (even within the same areas of England) and story lines, but I thought the novellas still complemented one another as a collection. The authors also did a great job incorporating meaningful themes and topics that I could relate to and learn from. Overall, I would highly recommend this novella collection to anyone looking for a charming, yet inspiring read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Barbour books for allowing me to read this book. Having never read stories with a very specific underlying Christian message, I found this concept interesting. The stories themselves were all fairly short and what I have seen described elsewhere as sweet romances. Perfect for picking up for a quick hour or two of reading.
First Comes Marriage-What part of going to a pleasure garden alone with a man seemed like a good idea, girlie?
He left after the wedding, for three years?! I'd punch him in a soft spot.
She's a good wife. Better than he deserves, really.
His father is a bitter old man now.
Hahaha, dirty trick!
Three Little Matchmakers-Cute kids.
What incident?
The poor man should just relax.
These children really need to stop eavesdropping.
His grandma is definitely in on the scheme.
Was tetanus an issue? I don't like the idea of those rotten boards, either.
What a charming, yet awkward proposal.
When I Saw His Face-Shut up before she kills you, man!
Sadie's my girl.
Sheesh, who was the parent and who was the child in her house?
I feel bad for Chester. He's an idiot, on many levels.
Why is Myrtle everywhere? Get a life, woman!
The Highwayman's Bargain-That sounds like a really nice, and a great place to grow up in. I'd never leave.
What just happened?!
Idiot! If she doesn't respond to your letters, that's not an invitation to kidnap her!
Jamie Ever After-Yikes! At least they weren't in deeper water.
Mirabelle is clearly a selfish twit. You wouldn't have wanted her for a wife anyway, William.
I feel sure Cedric has murderous tendencies. And a dog is not "livestock", moron.
This wedding is depressing. Poor Jamie! At least the best man livened things up for a minute or two.
Bloodletting was an idiotic practice.
The Regency Brides Collection: 7 Romances Set in England during the Early Nineteenth Century is a wonderful collection from seven wonderful authors. The collection includes:
First Comes Marriage by Amanda Barratt
Masquerade Melody by Angela Bell
Three Little Matchmakers by Susanne Dietze
The Gentleman Smuggler’s Lady by Michelle Griep
When I Saw His Face by Nancy Moser
The Highwayman’s Bargain by MaryLu Tyndall
Jamie Ever After by Erica Vetsch
I enjoyed all of these stories. My two favorites were MaryLu Tyndall's The Highwayman's Bargain and Erica Vetsch's Jamie Ever After.
Recommended.
5 stars.
The stories are sweet and good. The christian theme is strong as an example the first story, the young man leaves and is bitter and unkind to his new wife and father(in good reason for my opinion) and he thinks God taught him a lesson through the war and scriptures are partially quoted when reaching forgiveness.
Bit too much for me, I don't mind a mention of God but the writers viewpoint in my opinion was pushed strongly.
