WOW- this was such a good adult contemporary story and my first by this author! Overall it was just an incredibly fun, flirty, and sensational read!

I just didn't click with the writing style, I think. It felt too tell-y instead of show-y. Alexa was a strong character until she wasn't - both the leads felt like they had inconsistent characterization and could flip a switch from being mature to really immature with almost no reason at all. I know many people are excited for this book, and I like the author from her Twitter. So I really wanted to enjoy this, but I just didn't click with it. I hope more people read it and enjoy it - it just wasn't that funny or enjoyable for me personally.

Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley Publishing for the eARC of this one.

With a rave review from Roxane Gay, I'm sure my thoughts won't add much to the buzz around this book, but here goes. Alexa (chief of staff to the Berkeley mayor - work is really important here) and Drew (pediatric surgeon) meet cute when they get stuck in an elevator together. Drew's on the way to an ex's wedding, and his date bailed! Alexa agrees to go, and the expected romance ensues.

This book is the best, so fun and so satisfying! Alexa Munroe is the accomplished, smart romance heroine of our dreams and Drew Nicholas (Dr. Nick) is the best hunky doctor to be stuck in an elevator with. Their relationship is the expected whirlwind, hitting normal romance beats, and treating the reader to more than the average amount of fun. Alexa's POV also grapples realistically with body image, something I don't always see when I read romance, and which I appreciated here. I can't remember enjoying a romance this much since The Royal We. Jasmine Guillory has written the best romance debut I can imagine, and I can't wait to see more from her.
