Miranda Liasson offers up a complicated, but well written second chance at love story in The Baby Project. Two people who had an affair in a war torn country are reunited in a small town where they find they can’t seem to be just friends; both broken in ways and with every different views on life find their way to one another. Their happily ever after is hard fought, but filled with good times, easy conversation, heartbreak, and happiness.

After finding her husband cheating on her in their bed, Dr. Liz Kingston spends a year with Doctors Without Borders gaining some perspective and having a torrid affair with journalist Grant Wilbanks, the nephew of her neighbor back home. After weeks of being together, Liz is hoping for more with Grant, but he leaves her with just an “I’m sorry” text and a broken heart. Returning home she buys into a busy practice with her best friend and lets her patients consume her life, but at 32 Liz is determined to beat the clock and her endometriosis and decides to use IVF to conceive a child on her own.

It was easy to fall into this story because both of the characters were charming and interesting, and both were sporting a whole lot of baggage. Liz has a fantastic family; parents who are proud of her and adore her, a big brother and sister in law who think the world of her, and two sisters both married who all look up to her, but she is still embarrassed about her marriage falling apart and while she is happy for her siblings and their spouses she also kind of resents they have all found what she wants in her life. I wouldn’t say she is bitter, but she has distanced herself from these people who have her back and love her because being around them makes her wish for more. She is strong and learning to put herself first, but when Grant walks back into her life, she is thrown for a loop.

Losing both his parents as age 10, especially when he barely new them to do their work as journalists has made Grant shy away from any type of emotional entanglements. The closest he ever came was the time he spent with Liz in Somalia, but in the end he realized he couldn’t be the man she deserved and he let her go. I liked Grant, but the man was a coward and emotionally stunted but we did see him grow in this story which was a positive; he found friendship with Liz’s family, he began to understand the appeal of small town life, and he began to see that having a special person in his life wasn’t so bad.

I enjoyed the budding relationship and watching these two become closer, but I was disappointed in Grant’s flight instead of fight tendencies and in Liz always making excuses for him and letting him back in her life despite the way it made her feel. I needed to see him make a decision that wasn’t based on HIM, but on THEM and I needed her to be as strong and stand up to him as she did with her overbearing partner at work.

The Baby Project was a sweet and entertaining romance with enough emotion to keep it interesting and while I had a few problems with it, I still enjoyed it very much.

I really liked this second chance story of Liz and Grant.

Not a bad read. A little slow but picks up after a little bit.

Elizabeth is an OB Doctor, returning to her small hometown in North Carolina to join a practice with her best friend in college Brett and another person. Elizabeth had a rough time –she caught her husband cheating on her with another woman so she got a divorce, and joined Doctors Without Borders and went off to Africa for a year which is how long her contract was with DWB. While there she meets Grant, world famous photojournalist and they have this mad and passionate affair. Right before her contract ended with DWB she made plans with Grant to meet up for a week and take a trip together. He was supposed to meet her at a train station but he never showed up…she waited and he never came. He broke Elizabeth’s heart and this is where the story picks up..
Grant is headed back home to small town North Carolina after causing some political trouble and his company sent him to cover small town life and do a documentary on small town life as punishment. Grant knows Liz is there and thinks to pick up where they left off. He hasn’t forgotten about her nor has she him. Thing is, Liz has given up ever really finding love and she has a medical issue that makes getting pregnant really hard. She was looking into IVF when Grant had shown back up in town. She is still in love with Grant but hasn’t forgotten nor forgiven how he left her hanging. She now just wants his sperm and he doesn’t have to be around her or the baby. That way he can still be mister fancy and free. Grant isn’t sure what he wants –well he knows he wants back in her bed but he isn’t sure if he can do forever. Will these two get a 2nd chance at love or will this British foreign correspondent decide he cant settle and be forever roaming the globe when the best thing is right next door?

Loved The Baby Project. Well written with a good plot and well developed characters. I recommend this to readers who enjoy a good romance.

This was a really good story about a woman struggling to get pregnant. Her cheating (Now) EX-Husband is with the woman he cheated on her with. To add to her discomfort they are now pregnant and come to her OB clinic, which is the only one in the small town. She decides to ask an old flame who she is still on friendly speaking terms with to be her sperm donor. Now it's up to him to decide if he will help her out.

Learning she may not be able to get pregnant is a huge blow for Liz Kingston, especially when there's nothing more she wants in the world than to have a baby. Choosing the right man to give her a simple donation should be easy enough since she has her heart set on Grant Wilbanks; the man that broke her heart a year ago and the man that has come back into her life. Asking Grant is simple, but when Liz begins to fall for the gorgeous man all over again, will she win his heart this time around or will he destroy any chance they have at happy ever after?

If you've never read a book by Ms. Liasson before, then you're definitely missing out on some superb reading, as her books have captivating characters that hook this reader right from the beginning; storylines that are fast-paced and keep me entertained from start to finish; and compelling dialogue that brings an array of emotions that without a doubt leave me smiling by the end due to the main characters getting their happy ever after. The way this story started had me liking the heroine immediately, as she's desperate for a baby and isn't afraid to ask for what she wants, even if it is to the wrong person at first. Will Liz get what she wants? However, it was the moment that the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time since the hero broke Liz's heart that I absolutely loved, as Grant is determined to do whatever it takes to get Liz to listen to him. Will he get through to her? Will Liz give him a chance?

As for the dialogue, it was spellbinding and I was charmed by the hero and heroine's banter, not only because they have incredible chemistry that had me determined to discover what obstacles this couple would face on their journey to happy ever after, but because their back stories and their past history had me wanting to know how long it would take for the heroine to be able to forgive the hero due to what he did a year ago that left her heartbroken. Moreover, the heroine is hard-working, courageous and I could sympathize with her when it came to her not wanting to give happy ever after another chance after what her ex-husband did to her that's made her the resilient and independent woman she is. I also liked the close bond she has with her family, even though it wasn't easy for her to let them into her life with everything she's going through. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine was her determination to be a mother and that she wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted. Will she fall pregnant considering the medical condition she has?

While the hero, he's had it tough in life with his parents being more interested in their careers than their son. Yet, I could understand why he took the path in life that he did. Being a reporter was important to him and I liked how driven he was to succeed, which is proven by how much he's accomplished. I also liked how determined he was to win Liz over, as he knows he did wrong by her in the past. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is that he didn't allow his past to continue to hold him back from finding happiness with the heroine.

Overall, Ms. Liasson has delivered an incredible read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance wonderful and shows how right these two are for each other; and the ending had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, as Grant is determined to do whatever it takes to win Liz back, even if it means facing off against all of her family to get to her in hopes that she'll listen and give him another chance. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as we discover how far Grant and Liz have come in their relationship and how well everything is going when it comes to their wonderful surprise. I would recommend The Baby Project by Miranda Liasson, if you enjoy the surprise pregnancy trope; second chance romances; or books by authors Marina Adair, Catherine Bybee, Regina Kyle and Jenna Bayley-Burke.

Elizabeth/Liz is an OB doctor and has decided she wants a baby and now. Her relationships haven’t worked out. Elizabeth had caught her fiance in their bed with another woman.Then Liz had joined Doctors Without Borders and went to Africa for a year to get away. While in Africa Liz met and fell for Grant Williams who was a famous photojournalist They had a very hot affair for a couple of months then they were suppose to meet up and go off together and Grant left her at the train station waiting for him. Liz then returns home. She then asks her fellow OB doctor and good friend Brett to donate some sperm for her to get pregnant by. But Brett says he doesn’t think his boyfriend would agree. Then Grant comes back in Liz’s life when Grant is staying at his aunt’s house who is one of Liz’s neighbors. Grant had gotten in a little trouble when he helped a family get to another country for better health care so he was sent back to the states to do an article on small town America. Eventually Liz asks Grant to donate sperm so she can get pregnant. Grant decides he needs to think about it. While think about Liz’s request Grant’s bad childhood memories surface. But Grant still can’t tell Liz no.
This was a great story and I really enjoyed it. I loved the plot and the pace. This book grabbed your interest and didn’t let go until the end. I laughed at times and choked up at times while reading this. I loved Liz and Brett’s relationship. The characters seemed realistic to me with their faults and problems. I felt this was a very heartwarming story. I did feel bad for Liz that she closed herself off from the family she loved because her sister and sister in law was pregnant and so much baby talk even though she was happy for her family. I felt bad for Liz how her ex cheated on her in their bed what a butthole and then Grant leaves her waiting at the station. I loved Liz and Grant together. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend.

I enjoyed Liz and Grant's story--a sweet second chance romance with a baby surprise ;)

Liz was a strong character, knowing what she wanted and doing what she could to get it for herself all by herself (well, as by herself as she could, anyway!) I would have liked her to have felt less conflicted about telling her family the truth, though--not that I blame her at all for hesitating, but I wanted her to own it sooner than she did in the end. Still, she's a great character, and it's easy to root for her from the very first page.

Plus, she's got an awesome rescue dog--how can you not love her?

Grant, Grant, Grant...I wasn't too sure about him at first, but he won me over :) The scenes with him and the males in Liz's family were absolutely priceless, and oh, that ending...

A great addition to the series, this one would work fine as a standalone too (confession time--I've only read book #1 so far-- A Man of Honor is still waiting on my TBR!)

This story had me at "test tube science". I knew I was in for a funny and wild ride and that is exactly what I got. Liz and Grant's chemistry is explosive.

Such a great book. I have loved every book in this series. Liz is a OB doctor wanting her own baby and running out of time. She doesn't just want any sperm she wants to know the Gene's she getting. Grant is her neighbors nephew and she also had a fling with him while away in Africa. She asked him to donate his sperm. When he agreed she was stunned but happy. What she didn't expect is to fall in love with him again and he loves her too. But can they put aside their fears and past failures away to give love a chance and a baby...
I love Liz and Grant. They are the perfect balance of love, laughter and spark. You will love them to and the whole family really. Great plot, great characters and a emotional ride with a HEA.

He is so wrapped up in his job and trying to save the world that he has no interest in settling down and raising a family. Perfect! Liz won’t have any interference in raising her child.

This novel grabbed me at the first chapter and held on tight for the entire ride. Miranda Liasson has a knack for creating characters and situations that keep you glued to the book until the end. Just the right amount of family drama is skillfully woven into the story.

I laughed. I cried. I loved this book! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good contemporary romance

This is a second chance romance that will pull at your heartstrings. Terrific characters with great chemistry that didn’t take that final step to forever the first time around. A little bit predicable but still a consumingly sweet read. Have something to wipe tears on hand just in case.

Super fun, heartwarming story! I love this author's writing style. She does a fantastic job introducing us to her characters and grabbing our attention and hearts immediately.

In this story we OB doc Liz Kingston who has returned to her hometown to practice after traveling with Doctors Without Borders for several years. She's decided now is the time for her to settle down and have a baby of her own. Too bad she doesn't have any daddy prospects! Deciding to go the in vitro route all she has to decide is who the sperm donor will be. Who better than the deliciously delightful Grant Wilbanks. Being an international correspondent he lives the no strings no attachments lifestyle perfectly. But is that what he will want in the end???

Don't miss this one, it's fantastic! I highly recommend it.

Although this book technically ties in with two of Ms. Liasson's previous books, it completely stands alone and you do not have to have read those to enjoy this one. There is both cursing and on-screen sex in this one, so if that will cause you to leave a bad review, you should skip this one.

I really enjoyed this story. Liz's inner struggles and her determination made me really like her, and to be totally honest, I identified with her in a way that really surprised me. Feeling that kinship with her made me root from her from the very start - I just wanted her to have her happily ever after in whatever form that was for her. The way that things played out with Liz's dream of becoming a mother was really beautiful, and I loved watching both main characters who were already highly successful in their professional lives mature and grow as they made strides to become more well-rounded people.

Without spoiling anything, there were twists that I didn't see coming, and more than once I found myself wiping tears as I read (making my get weepy seems to be Ms. Liasson's forte). If you've never read a Miranda Liasson book, this one is a great place to start because it showcases how she writes with the most beautiful balance of humor, heat, and heart.

I would highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a slightly unconventional love-and-family story with two really likable characters who belong together from the start – even if they're too stubborn to see it.

This is a delicious story running through the whole gamut of emotions! Liz Kingston caught her husband in their bed with another woman. She walked out and spent a year working with Doctors Without Borders. During that time she met and fell in love with Grant Wilbanks, a British journalist. They had a torrid affair but he didn’t leave with her as he’d promised. Now she’s home again and still dreams of having a baby of her own. When Grant turns up staying in his aunt’s home next door to Liz, she asks him to be a sperm donor for her . . . .

This is a emotive story sensitively shared. It is a story of love, loss, dilemmas and decisions. The attraction between the couple is always there but she no longer trusts him to be there for her. He is rethinking his life and priorities after being kicked out of Kenya, especially as he hasn’t been able to forget Liz. As the two reconnect, make sure you have tissues at the ready! This is a heartbreaking and heartwarming story with great characters, a brilliant plot and developments. Whilst this is the third book in a series, it works well as a standalone though I’ll certainly be looking out for more in this series or by this author in future!

Luz was there trying to forget about her divorce, and that she found her husband in bed with another woman. Luz and Grant had a fast and furious love affair, both not admitting they were falling in love. Grant went away but had said he would meet her at the local train station......he never showed, breaking Liz's heart. One year latter she is back home in the States and working as an OB/GYN in private practice. Grant has been forced to leave Africa due to helping a family get medical help for their child ( across the boarder). He has never forgot Liz., and he wants to test if his memory about her was true. He returns to his aunt's home, which is right next door to Liz's home.

Liz has just received bad news, she may never have children unless she gets busy fast. Her best friend suggests a sperm bank, but Liz is not comfortable with that option...but what choice does she have. She returns home to find Grant asleep at his aunt's home. What are the chances that two people who have a brief intense affair while both on mission in Africa might have another chance? According to the Baby Project those chances are quite good. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review from Barclay Publicity. Grant is news correspondent who has worked in some of the most dangerous areas of the world bring news of conflicts to the world. He is rumored to be close to winning a Pulitzer prize and his boss is chomping at the bit to get that award for his reporting organization. Liz is an OB/GYN who was stationed in Africa where she went when her life was at its lowest. She was seeking purpose and a break from her life.

Liz is now a partner in a local OB/GYN practice in a small town in the South, her home town where she lives within blocks of her parents, sisters and their husbands and her brother and his family. Both of her sisters are expecting babies and although Liz is very happy for them it brings her pain to know that she may not have a chance to have a baby. She has a condition that is getting increasingly worse which might prevent her from having a baby. She knows she has to act now if she will ever have a chance to have her own baby. Liz is ready to try insemination if she can find the right donor which has to be someone she knows as characteristics in a file are not enough for her.

Grant is in town to prepare his aunt's home for sale, or so he says since that home happens to be next door to the woman he had a brief affair with in Africa. Grant himself is not sure if he is only there to make repairs and prepare the home for sale, especially after he sees Liz again and he realizes he was only fooling himself. The trouble is he is not the kind of man to settle down, but, maybe he can get a chance to spend some time with Liz. Of course Liz decides that Grant has all of the characteristics of what she wants for her child and asks for his help.

The Baby Project gives the reader both sides of the story, how Grant and Liz met. It tells the story of their affair in Africa from both of their perspectives and what went wrong. It finally tells the story of how their relationship progresses while Grant is in town preparing a documentary on the state of small-town life. It is an endearing story that tells the story of a woman who has know great love from her family but been unlucky in romantic love and the story of a man who has not known great love from his family, other than his aunt), so he purposely stayed away from romantic love and how they find their way to each other more than once.
