Cute, sweet story filled with humor! Great read! Kelsey's not exactly a pink hearts type of girl, she works in a record store and wears ripped jeans and concert tees-I loved her spunk and how she gives as good as she gets. Matt is cocky especially when it comes to something he wants but charming none the less with a huge heart, I loved his gentleman ways, even if Kelsey gave him friction. Their banter back and forth had me laughing out loud. I found this a refreshing light romance with plenty of steamy chemistry! I do believe that the museum is my favorite scene.
Sweet, Sexy and Swoon Worthy! This is the second Sloane Howell Book I have read and I am totally now a forever fan. Readers who love romance, enjoy witty banter, with melt your heart, down to earth men, will fall in love with Scored! The chemistry between these two, leaps off the page right at you.
Matt Stallworth and Kelsey Martin’sv coming together was fantastic. I loved their connection, their sparing, their attraction and his pursuit of Kelsey. I was expecting this player of a man, but he was sweet, down to earth, totally taken by Kelsey and romantic. He is definitely my new book boyfriend. This book delivered on all the feels, and left me with a smile on my face! Don’t miss this one! Loved it! Totally Recommend to read!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This story is fun and entertaining!
Matt is a baseball player for the Texas Rangers and he is mesmerized by Kelsey. Kelsey does not date athletes, and when Matt pursues her, the fun begins and never ends!
Sloane Howell gave us some great characters in this story, you will love them all! I loved Kelsey’s sass and how witty and fun she is. And Matt, oh my, what a treat he is!
Matt and Kelsey's interactions and banter are so fun and entertaining. I was constantly smiling while reading this delightful story.
The thing about this story is there's no dramatics, it's just a fun, pleasant story that keeps you entertained from the start. I was hooked at the prologue.
Not only is Matt and Kelsey’s banter fun, but oh my goodness, he and his best friends Ethan and Aiden will have you cracking up when they are together. They have such a great camaraderie and their wittiness and friendship add so much to the story, as well as how they are there for each other.
I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to what Sloane Howell has in store for us next!
3.5☆ I enjoyed this story, although Scored is the first book I have read by this author and I did find it hard to get into. Purely because I felt like all of the characters had already been established therefore I didn't get a chance to get to know them before this story really got going.
However after a few chapters I did become engaged and it stayed that way throughout. As Scored was sweet, angst free, at times fun and extremely easy to read. Plus the two main characters were likable, and so were the secondary ones. Including Matt's friends and family.
As for the actual romance it unfortunately all fell a little flat for me and so I never really found myself invested in it. Yet I did really like the epilogue. As not only was it sweet and romantic. But it rounded of the story well and so I would recommend Scored to others. Especially to anyone who has read and enjoyed the first book in this series.
This is my second time reading Sloane Howell’s work, and I am once again impressed. I read the predecessor to this book, Bossed, earlier this year and absolutely loved it. Mr. Howell's writing captivated me in that book, and I've been looking forward to reading Scored since I finished Bossed. It was worth the wait.
Howell created likeable, relatable characters in professional baseball player, Matt Stallworth, and record store employee/rocker chick, Kelsey Martin, and I was rooting for them from the start. Sloane did a fantastic job pulling the reader into Matt’s head, and I was thoroughly amused by that insight into this character. I genuinely liked Matt. He was confident without being an overly cocky jock, and he was an all-around good guy who was down-to-earth, romantic and had it bad for Kelsey.
Kelsey was not into sports—or athletes, especially professional ones. She was into music, and her taste in men definitely reflected that. Having been burnt a few times in her past by bad-boy rockers, she didn’t trust easily. She was definitely attracted to Matt, but she struggled at first to see past his wealth, fame and good looks. Matt was very patient and seemed to know how to handle her, though. I loved Matt and Kelsey! They were so sweet together, their back-and-forth banter was witty and hilarious, and the chemistry between them positively sizzled.
I really enjoyed Scored! An incredibly sexy but still sweet romance, full of as much heart as there was humor came together through Howell’s excellent writing into a truly entertaining romantic comedy with a sports spin. Scored by Sloane Howell gets four-and-a-half smooches from me!
Kelsey Martin works in a record store because she loves music so much that she wants to be surrounded by it. She usually dates musicians, however, that hasn't gone well. So when sexy, Matt Stallworth comes into the record store and tells her that they have a date that night and he is picking her up at 7pm, she is left speechless to the point that all she does is nod. She's never been one to date professional athletes, but she sure has noticed Matt. After Kelsey tries repeatedly to talk herself out of their date, Matt is at her door. At the end of the night, she has to admit to herself that it was the perfect date. Since she has been hurt in the past so much, Kelsey keeps trying to sabotage their newfound friendship. Matt however, is not one to give up, and he finally wins her over, but for how long. He may have to move to New York with the offer the Yankees just proposed. How long can he keep this from her, and when he does tell her, will she break up with him.
This was an enjoyable book, however, I did have issues with Kelsey and her self doubt. I love sports romance, but there wasn't much about sports in this one.
I really enjoyed this book. It started kind of slow but then picks up really well. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if there were things they faced together instead of almost being adversaries through the whole book. She seemed like a weak character to me though with her past, she should have been strong. Her interactions with Matt seemed almost against her character. Overall, it was a decent read.
I really enjoyed Matt & Kelsey's story. I liked how Kelsey was strong and didn't take shit from Matt, and that Matt would give it right back to her. I found both Bossed and Scored were fun to read and made me laugh out loud more than once.
This was a hot book. These two characters were great together. This book I would read again. This book has drama and romance and sex.
Not bad, but it didn't wow me. My main issue was with Kelsey. I didn't like her or connect with her. She was judgemental and insecure, and honestly I'm not sure why Matt pursued her. Beyond that, and this is just a personal thing, but Matt bit his fist several times. Now, besides Uncle Jesse in Full House I have never seen a man actually do this. So when I read it it pulls me out of the scene and stops feeling real. I did enjoy Matt's interactions with his guy friends and family. For me that was the highlight of the book.

In Scored we meet baseball great Matt who’s in a contract year so starting a new relationship might not be the best idea. Then we meet Kelsey who has been hurt and the last thing she’s looking for is to let that happen again. What Kelsey doesn’t plan for is a very gorgeous and determined baseball player who has decided she’s his forever. Yes this story has been told before but that’s why we keep coming back to romance reads to see the next twist on love. In Scored we get hysterical male bonding and true and loyal friendships. What I probably liked the most was that Matt is just a really good guy but I also loved his cocky side.
I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks you Netgally for letting me read and review.
There was nothing new about the plot or the characters, but it was fun to read.

I had high hopes for this one after reading and enjoying Bossed we met the characters from this book in its predecessor as secondary characters and they were pretty likeable, and the main characters from that book are now secondary cast members in this one.
Not so much this time. I think largely due to the writing style, Bossed had the right balance of snark, banter, sexy-times and internal monologue. This one just felt like a long drawn out diary entry from a pubescent teenage boy. Matt totally lost his manliness because of it and I found it all delivered with a large dose of cheese. Kelsey and her constant denial of everything just got annoying, and all-in-all I’d lost total interest in the all of it by the point I stopped reading.
I think I am going to pop this author in the 'One Hit Wonder' box now and move on, because apart from Bossed I have now DNF’d three of his titles in a row, and seeing the glowing reviews for those books I am putting it down to writing style and reader not really getting along.
This is an enjoyable book. It was great to get Matt's story--he's a great character. I did like the first book more, because it was heavier on emotion, but I'd like to read more in this series.
Sloane Howell writes uber-sexy romances with strong heroines, smoking hot love scenes, laugh-out-loud banter and swoony heroes, and he’s hit it out of the park with Scored. Matt Stallworth is a star professional baseball player, who is smitten when he meets Kelsey Martin. She is beautiful, interesting and laid-back with rocker chic vibe, and she knows absolutely nothing about baseball. She’s the opposite of most of the women he’s been with, which makes Kelsey leery of his intentions when he begins flirting with her. She assumes they have little in common and wonders why he would be interested in her, besides the obvious, potent sexual chemistry swirling between them.
Matt makes his move pursuing Kelsey, and he’s adorable, sexy and utterly endearing. He woos her with his charm and authenticity and seduces her with his wicked mouth. Their relationship develops at the perfect pace as both grapple with the increasingly overwhelming sexual tension and their rapidly escalating feelings, and they are fun to watch fall head over heels in love. Scored is brimming with laughs, fiery interludes and sigh-worthy moments, and it’s a home run.
Scored was just ...Dayummm HOT! Sloane Howell took Sports Romance to a new level of hotness. The sexy scenes.....blew me away! I literally just finished reading Scored and had to get that off my chest. Temperature is still pretty hot in here.
Matt was my baseball sweetheart. He has so much swag and alpha hotness going for him, I wanted to lick him up and call him mine. I love the comradery he has with his two closest friends. He just oozed with confidence. Until he met Kelsey. I loved that she makes him work for it. She has wall up protecting her heart, but Matt does everything he can to bring them down. Until a little big secret eventually comes out and then the drama unfolds.
Scored give you so much more than the basic sports romance novel. As I mentioned earlier, this book will scorch your Kindles! You will start to love the game for so many different reasons. The storyline was great and I loved all the characters who you will recognize from Bossed. Sloane Howell is an amazing writer and I can wait to read more of what he has in store for us!
I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed Matt and Kelsey dating and how their relationship bud. They sure had some hot sex together and by themselves. I wish we wouldve gotten more of Matt and his baseball games.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.
Matt and Kelsey meet through their mutual friends, Ethan and Jenny. Matt is a professional baseball player and Kelsey works at an Indie record store. The book open with Matt pining over Kelsey and trying to figure out how to get her to notice him. Kelsey was kind of a brat at times. She was burned in the past by the musician types she flocked to and held Matt to a higher standard than she, apparently, held any of the other guys to. She seemed average, which was nice, but not special enough for all of the angst she caused Matt. He was keeping a secret from her throughout most of this book but I could understand why. She would have taken off like a shot because she was looking for any excuse to bail. The story was a quick read but had quite a few unanswered questions for me at the end.
Love the sweet hot love story. Matt have always been attracted to Kelsey and is finally going to do something about it. Kelsey is not interested in dating an athlete especially one that she has nothing in common with. She later finds out tha Matt is more that what he seems. Matt has a secret and once revealed will have a impact on their future. Funny book with some laugh out loud moments. Recommended read
Publisher's Description:
He’s a player. But she’s about to score.
Opposites really do attract* as a sassy salesgirl turns a pro athlete’s life upside down in this supercharged standalone novel of seduction from the author of Bossed.
Kelsey: My mom would tell you I’m quite the catch, but since my last boyfriend, I haven’t been dating much. Maybe it’s my rocker style or my lack of filter that intimidates the boys. So I’m pleasantly surprised when Matt Stallworth waltzes into the indie record store where I work and gives as good he gets. Turns out Matt is a professional baseball player, which should mean he’s out of my league. But if he wants to hook up with me, he’s going to have to follow my rules.
Matt: After winning my MVP award, I learned that a guy can get used to having beautiful women practically throw themselves at you everywhere you turn. But everything changes the first time I see Kelsey Martin, and something just clicks. She’s hot, snarky, and whip-smart. I’ve got to see her again. Only problem is, she sees right through all my best moves. And I’m going to have to step up my game to convince Kelsey that I’m playing for keeps.
*And sexy times ensue—for mature audiences.
My Thoughts:
The premise of this book intrigued me, however I was not in love with the sexually descriptive language used. There was too much of the "F" word and a certain course word describing the anatomy of a female.
I prefer words that don't sound just plain vulgar.
The underlying story is excellent and rather sweet. I know it could have been told using a more cleanly based language.
Matt can't believe he is so taken with Kelsey at first glance but he holds back to give her time to deal with her grief over the loss of a man she thinks of as her second father.
Kelsey, who has never had much luck with guys, always seeming to choose the wrong one, can't believe her luck in attracting Matt.
Their mutual attraction is incredible, but Matt is secretly dealing with another issue. He is a free agent with an incredible contract offer from the New York Yankees.
Will he chose to stay with his home team or follow the money to New York? When will he tell Kelsey what is going on and when he does will she just let him go or follow her heart?
I gave this book 3.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a very heated sensual rating of 5.0 of 5.0 flames. The intimacy is hot, but I feel the descriptive language needs to be cleaned up considerably. If the language were less vulgar I would have given this book a higher rating.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
