I like this book even better than the previous one in the series. Both characters were likable, I liked their chemistry and that tension you know is there when you both like each other but aren't entirely sure or know how to act.
Absolutely steamy and delightful. I stayed up late and read this in one sitting. Highly recommend.
Nothing better than baseball and romance. Matt needs to make his free agent decision to stay playing in Texas or get traded to NY. One would think that money would be the deciding factor in helping him choose, but the love of a wonderful woman is the one thing that is stopping him in his tracks. Through a wonderful storyline, the reader is taken on a journey of the love affair between Kelsey and Matt. Great strong dialogue and true honest character interactions make the pages fly by. I was so sad to see the story end but at the same time I was overjoyed to read the HEA ending as well as what the future holds in the epilogue. Overall this was a fabulous read and I look forward to reading more from this author.
This was quite an enjoyable sports romance, although the baseball sporting references were completely lost on me. MVP? Had to Google that!!!
This is the first book from Sloane Howell that I’ve read but found that Scored was easily read as a standalone without having read Bossed first, although it did make me want to go back to read Bossed to see how Jenny and Ethan got together.
I enjoyed to story between Kelsey and Matt but at times found their behaviour a little tiresome. I really liked Matt’s character but just couldn’t fully connect with Kelsey, for some reason.
Whilst the story was enjoyable, I did find the writing style a little choppy and chaotic at times which took away some of my enjoyment of the book but not enough to stop me from finishing it and making me want to read the prequel to this story.
First impressions are everything in life and should be applied to books too. A cover should portray a book to a point. It should convey the characters and the plot. A cover is the book’s first impression to people. I bring this up because of the cover of Scored. I can appreciate a half-naked man with a sultry smirk but the cover does not give the right impression of the book. Where is Kelsey and where is the mention of baseball, which one of the main plotlines in the book? Not there.
Speaking of baseball, this is the first book that I have read in which the main character is a baseball player. I felt that it made for an interesting read after all the hockey romances I have read lately. I was disappointed that it wasn’t mentioned more. The focal point of the book is Matt’s relationship with Kelsey. The baseball plotline was there but you had to dig through tons of sex to actually get to it.
This is a romance book, through and through. Actually, it should be classed as an InstaLove and InstaLust book. The first few chapters were InstaLust. The romance didn’t come into play until almost the end. If this was real life, I would say that Kelsey and Matt would have a shelf life of Kim Kardashian’s 72-hour marriage. But it is fiction and it was pretty fun to read, so no complaining here.
I liked Matt but I had to wonder what he saw in Kelsey in the beginning. He also came across as stalkerish when he was calling Ethan and demanding to know where she worked. I didn’t understand why he didn’t tell her about his impending trade. I mean, I could understand in the beginning because he was trying to get her to trust him. But after they were dating? Yeah, he should have said something.
Kelsey drove me batty during the book. I can understand why she had issues trusting men. I mean, I know that I would have been gun-shy if I found my ex in bed with a groupie. But, she needed to let down her guard a little. She was so flipping uptight. I didn’t blame her when she found out about Matt’s impending trade. But I did think that she went a little overboard with her reaction. Even Jenny (who I couldn’t stand in Bossed) said so. I did like that she was very sexually confident. She knew her body and knew what she liked. I liked that she was able to tell Matt and let him know what pleases her.
The sex scenes are what made the book in my eyes. If you like graphic sex scenes, then read this book. Matt and Kelsey bang like bunnies everywhere. They did everything from public sex to talking dirty to roleplaying. There were a few oops scenes thrown in. Like when Matt and Kelsey were getting it on at the museum and they knock over the Big Bopper’s coffin. Or when Kelsey sexted Matt but his friend picked up the phone and got an eyeful of boobs.
The end of the book took me by surprise because I did think that Matt was going in one direction with what he did. And don’t get me started on the epilogue!!! Talk about sweet and romantic!!
4 stars
My Summary of Scored:
My view of Scored was colored by Bossed, which I didn’t like. But as I read the book I could see how unlike the two books were. It is pretty rare that I give the 2nd book in a series a high score than the first one. Scored had red-hot sex scenes and likable characters. I could relate to both Matt and Kelsey and I loved reading their sexual exploits.
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex and language
I would like to thank Sloane Howell, Loveswsept, Random House Publishing Group and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Scored

I volunteered to read this story for an honest review and really enjoyed it. It was a fun love story
Sloane has done it again. I love the interaction between Matt and Kelsey. Their love for music that helps them get together makes my heart Happy. I loved the banter between these two. A definite favorite.
I thought this book was really good. I loved the dynamic between the two main characters and the supporting characters were great as well. My only qualm was the "whore.slut" talk during sex that took me out of the moment. I loved how sweet the hero was and how well matched they seem. I didn't really get the end where he was talking about joining the Yankees but then all of a sudden said he was staying.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This is my first Sloane Howell Book and I will definitely check out some more from him. I really liked Matt and Kelsey.
I like Matt because despite his MLB player status he is pretty easy going and extremely humble. He really is a nice guy. I loved the whole thing with the concert tee shirts before he took Kelsey out the first time. One of the other things I really like about him is his generosity. I like seeing athletes who make a lot of money doing what they love giving to important causes. I appreciated how much he toiled with his big decision as a free agent too.
I like Kelsey a lot too. She is sweet and sassy too but keeps her heart under lock and key because of being hurt in the past.
These two have amazing chemistry and so much in common I cheered them on from the beginning.
Throw in some seriously hot and steamy sexy times and you have yourself a really good romance. Oh and that amazing epilogue, well I just swooned over that.
A while back, I read Sloane Howell's Bossed. I loved the characters and their story. When I heard he was going to be releasing a book about Jenny and Ethan's best friends, I knew I had to read their book.
Matt and Kesley's romance was everything I thought it would be and more. They were both really cool people on their own. Despite being a professional baseball player, Matt was a down to Earth guy. He knew what was important in life. Kelsey was a woman who didn't let celebrity impress her. She was also a loyal friend. It was very fun to watch Matt try to woo Kelsey. They were so perfect for each other.
My one issue with Scored was that it felt rushed. Matt and Kelsey's relationship flew by. One minute she was avoiding him, and the next they were in love. Well, it didn't exactly happen that fast, but I just wanted some more time with them trying to figure out their relationship.
Overall, Scored was a fun sports romance with great characters. I didn't quite love it as much as I loved Bossed, but it was still a great read.
Scored is about Kelsey and Matt. When I first started reading this book I thought they were complete opposites. Matt is a baseball player and super focused and polished. Kelsey is a rocker type chick who works at a record type, very carefree. However, as the book progresses Ms.Sloane lets the reader see the real side of Matt. He loves music and old rock bands like Kelsey. He is also very loyal to his family and his team. As the book progressed I thought they were perfect for each other.
I liked this book and the story line. I feel like this book should've been a little longer. Ms. Sloan introduced Matts family and they were awesome but there really wasn't ever any interaction with Kelsey and his family until the end. in the beginning of the book all Matt talked about was his mom and how she raised him. I felt like the book was rushed some too. Matt and Kelsey did have depth to them but if the book wouldn't been longer they could've been even better.
All that being said this book was funny, sweet and dual POV and yes I will read other books but this author.
I received a free copy for an honest review.
Sloane has done it again! Matt and Kelsey are hands down my new favorites. Keep rocking the words, Sloane!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

You know that moment when you find an ARC of one of the authors you truly admire and then 'muh' the story just doesn't click and you don't feel any sort of bounding with the characters?
Sad?
Frustrating?
Disappointing even?
Believe me, I know the feeling.
The first moment Scored landed on my kindle, I was so excited and trilled to start reading it. I tried to like the story and get into it but Kelsey was exhaustingly insecure that she bored me to death. And as much as I loved Matt, I just couldn't understand how he fell in love with her in the first place.
This wasn't my cup of tea and I hope this review doesn't affect other readers because each book has its own admirers.
Scored is the first book I have read by Sloane Howell. It is an easy, fun sports romance. Matt and Kelsey are opposites. He is the laid back hometown hero that made it into the baseball big leagues and she is the music loving cool chick who doesn't follow sports at all. But after meeting through mutual friends the sparks started flying. And as the saying goes...Opposites attract and boy did they ever! This story was well written with a good story line, hot sex scenes and memorable characters. Definitely worth your time to read.
I really enjoyed this book. I love sports themed romances, this one is baseball. It had just enough angst to keep one wanting to keep reading and get this characters together. I would recommend this one. Romance books never really get old when the author , like this one did, keep it fresh and make you care about the characters and their lives.
Scored was a great book about Matt & Kelsey. Matt is a professional baseball player who meets Kelsey who works in an indie record store. They meet each other through mutual friends. Matt shows up at her place of work to ask her on a date. If Kelsey is going to accept, then Matt has to play by her rules. Matt has to work to get Kelsey which he is not used to doing. Sloane Howell did a great job with this story.
What can I say?!Umm this book was pretty darn good and it made me cry.
This book was super sexy and I love me some Matt! This book and Bossed makes me like Baseball just a little bit more.
I really enjoyed all of the song references. My favorite one is this one!

Sloane Howell you my friend are a flipping rock star!!!
DNF 25%. I found the interaction between the main characters pretty juvenile. Their steamy relationship was quick, predictable and shallow. The weird fantasizing.... I just could not continue.
Do you like books with sports and music themes? Then Scored is the perfect combination of both. If you read Bossed you will know Matt and Kelsey. I thought Ethan was hot, then I was introduced to Matt. He is off the charts sexy with a filthy dirty mouth that will make you hot around the collar. Yet he has such a sweet side too. He and Kelsey have a mutual attraction and chemistry that cannot be ignored. Their interactions are feisty and so sexy. They get their HEA after a few bumps in the road. I could not put this book down it was an entertaining, well written, compulsive, and witty read.
This is the second in a series by Sloane Howell about two friends, a baseball player and his agent, and the two women they develop relations with. It wasn’t necessary to have read the first book to enjoy this one, but the attraction between the two main characters, major-leaguer Matt and the quirky Kelsey who has no interest in getting involved with a big baseball star, began in the first book. The book starts with Matt having to decide whether to take the free-agency mega-deal offered by the NY Yankees or staying in his hometown in Texas with the team and town he has so much loyalty to. He finds himself thinking that Kelsey Martin might be the woman who could make a difference in what he decides.
It’s sweet how attracted he is to Kelsey and how willing he is to go slow and help her to be comfortable with him. He’s very likeable. There are hints about why Kelsey is unwilling to commit to a relationship with Matt, but that could have been explained better. She just doesn’t have much of a back story. We were told that she had given up a lot of time to help her friend’s father as he was dying, because he was like a second father to her, but we don’t learn about her own parents. All we know is that she’s had relationships with some wannabe rock singers who treated her badly. We see a lot of Matt’s family and thinking, but not enough of Kelsey. I think that would have strengthened the story.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
