I found an old eReader with several review books I had not finished, which is why my late review of a 2017 Lenten book.

I highly recommend any Sacred Space book; Advent, Lent, or yearly. Their daily devotionals give light and salt to the world. It follows a short format of prayer for the week with daily scripture and devotions. Some weeks are deeper than others yet all contain the needed energy in your stride to follow the Way.

It took me awhile to finish but it is a good advent book. The book does have a limited time frame for selling each year.

I am so sorry that this booklet slipped by me. It was a great help during the advent season but I also use Sacred Space on a daily basis. The website sacred space can let you move to living space and you can get help with the daily readings. Great book and thanks to the Irish Jesuits who is responsible for this. Also thanks to #NetGalley for letting me review this.

Sacred space for advent and the Christmas season 2017 to 2018 is enjoyable to read any gets you to read and think a lot about Christ's been God. Now that being said I didn't like some of the things they said. They said that a parable that Jesus was talking about and explained to his disciples was actually Jesus talking about his 2nd coming. They even when as far as to call the bridegroom as the master will be coming back to the house and no one will know except or as for us to keep awake not to be prepared… we are suppose to have enough oil for the lamps for a when the bridegroom comes - this is just 1 example. But they also get you thinking on scripture and ask great questions.

This book was an excellent devotion to utilize through the Advent season. The daily readings were short enough to allow me to stay on track, and the Scripture helped ensure the Christmas story was in my mind throughout the day. I also liked the extra reading and devotional material after Advent season was over.

I have always loved Sacred Space whether it was for Lent or Advent. This Advent booklet is fantastic and while I prefer the paper book, I am really enjoying reading it on my e reader. The readings seem deeper this year and as always they are relevant to life today. I realize we are still in the advent season and will continue so until Jan 6
but wanted to get my review out there for those who have come late to this. It's not too late. It's a fantastic short piece of soul mining, thought provoking reading.

I saw this book on NetGalley and became intrigued. At times, I don’t feel I think about God, Jesus, and Mary as often as I should, so I decided to give this read a go.

Meant to be read slowly, I actually zipped right through. Works from varying people and articles are referenced throughout in addition to Bible passages and reflections. I found myself learning about not only about Jesus, but other little tidbits. For instance, it was said that the Bishop Nicholas wanted his gift giving to be so anonymous that he dropped a bag of coins for his daughter down the chimney. I like to believe this is where Santa coming down the chimney came from. 🙂

Though I found both the scriptures included and the reflective questions/thoughts aspects meaningful, there was some repetition throughout. When John the Baptist’s story came up more than once, almost verbatim, I had to stop and flip back to see if I was going crazy. I wasn’t. I’m not sure why this story in particular was repeated, but it wasn’t the only one. Perhaps this was a technique for the reader to remember certain passages more than others.

Overall, Sacred Space was a nice book that was meant to slow down the craziness of the Christmas season and try to remember why we celebrate this holiday. I would recommend this read to those of the Christian faith and would like to have a more reflective Advent/Christmas season.

Enjoyable and repetitive (in a good way) guide to the Advent period -3 December 2017 to January 8 2018.
Each week there are a set of readings to be completed guiding your quiet time from silence to reflection in the midst of which there is a guided bible reading different for each day. I thought this was an enjoyable way to embrace one thought per week.
At the end of the book there is a guide to a retreat. Based on the Antiphons, generally used in the waiting period of Advent (although I had never heard of them).. I was unable to go away but read through these one each day and studied them (for 20 to 25 minutes each) in this way so as not to miss out.
I was given this book by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

Another wonderful Advent devotional from The Irish Jesuits.

You can easily add this to your day and help center your mind during a season of preparation.

Beyond the daily reflections, there is also an Advent retreat in the back of the book. You can do this on your own or in a small group.
